Guns Up!, Fat Princess, PAIN among new free-to-play games unveiled at E3

Kingdom Under Fire 2, Neverwinter and Onigiri also showcased

We firmly believe that the best game development ideas can come from anywhere and anyone, and as the brand that stands for gamers, we want to make it easy for gamers to step outside of their comfort zones and experience these new types of games.

Tonight at our E3 Press Conference, we announced more good news for gamers: with the help of our amazing Worldwide Studios team and third-party partners, PlayStation is introducing a robust catalogue of Free-to-Play (F2P) games with a goal of offering more ways for gamers to discover and connect with a larger variety of titles and experiences.

The PlayStation F2P initiative will give gamers the opportunity to try a variety of games that they may have not otherwise played, at no cost or financial commitment. We’ll leave it up to you, the gamer, to decide how much you want to invest in the game.

The development community was central to PS4 platform development and ultimately has helped us create an expansive library of unique experiences. The F2P initiative is another testament to what makes PlayStation a leader in the industry. From Triple-A blockbusters like DRIVECLUB, The Order: 1886, and Bloodborne, to the recently announced free-to-play titles, PlayStation is home to amazing content.

Check out our impressive line-up of upcoming F2P titles below and be sure to take some time off this summer to experience the deep library of games that are calling your name…you know I will!

GUNS UP!

GUNS UP! is a free-to-play strategy game where players take on the role of a general, managing resources and deploying the right combination of troops, land mines, air strikes, and smoke screens to destroy enemy bases and conquer new territories. We’re excited to share more about Valkyrie Entertainment‘s first independently-developed game releasing later this year.

Fat Princess: Piece of Cake

Launching later this summer, Fat Princess: Piece of Cake takes the comic medieval battle royale to the next level with a brand-new strategic match-3 free to play puzzle game for PlayStation Vita and mobile platforms.

Wrapped within the beloved universe of Fat Princess, you’ll charge into battle with four different character classes to rescue the princess. Throughout the battle, collect gems to upgrade troops, feed cake to the princess to unleash slam attacks and trigger massive combos to save the kingdom.

As an added bonus, we’ll also be rewarding you for progressing in the game. When you reach level 15, you’ll unlock a voucher code to download the original Fat Princess for PS3 at no cost.

I love No More Heroes on the Vita and Tekken Revolution on the PS4. Looking forward to these games as well :3 Hopefully there’s some hard trophies to convince me to spend some cash like in No More Heroes, totally addicted to that game now!

That would be No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either.

Don’t worry, I’ve done it too.

Both are quite fun, in fact.

Oops! You’re completely right I don’t know why I confused the two, going to pretend it was because I stayed up late for E3 and not because I’m am idiot ;)

Thanks for the correction though :)

So 5 new F2P games for Vita:
- Guns Up! – RTS
- Fat Princess: Piece of Cake – adjust 3
- Big Fest – genre unknown for me
- Onigiri – Hack N’ Slash
- My Singing Monsters – “gotta catch em all”

Did I miss any?
The decision of giving away Fat Princess to those who lvl up to 15 in Piece of Cake is nice. Other than that I have nothing more to comment.

Yeah, you forgot the action RPG platformer “Reaper” :)

On another note, I think it’s pretty cool that you can win the original Fat Princess through Piece of Cake :D

Guns Up looks interesting, will be keeping an eye on that one.
So still no release date for Planetside 2? Or did I miss it somewhere…

Experience a tale of one (CENSORED) off Xbot.

Neverwinter is a nice game, all content for free, but you need money if you want the best gear. It doesn’t mentions for which platform it is, I suppose ps4 but anyone knows for sure ?

Googled around. Looks like PS4 confirmed. No mention of a PS3 version. Sounds about right.

Witcher70 10 June, 2014 @ 11:16 am   8

Vergonzoso lo que haceis con vita

CarotideEtude 10 June, 2014 @ 2:42 pm   10

Neverwinter? YES! I played it on my PC and although I had a lot of fun, my PC cannot sadly handle even the lowest level of graphics. With that said, I see no reason not to bring it to PS3! I will definitely play it if it does! Releasing it only on PS4 would be a big mistake.

CyraxPT 10 June, 2014 @ 3:25 pm   11

Real sad that PSO2 isn’t included on that list, that game deserves to be on a console, ps4 would be the perfect home for it. Then again, we’re talking about Sega, who know when the west will recieve an english version (pc that is) so a ps4 would be even more far…

I3loodthirsty 10 June, 2014 @ 3:55 pm   12

Id love to see star trek online come to ps4 its a pretty cool free 2 play mmo

KAL26EL 10 June, 2014 @ 6:28 pm   13

So this really interests me…I read 6 months ago about the remake of PAIN by QB9 and I emailed them as I am a member of a dedicated clan who have 100% in PAIN and still play it…the fact that Sony shut down the online servers recently is a right bummer to us clan members.

So can we get any more details as to this remake? Will all the DLC that Idol Minds made and released for the game be available in this remake?

echuckdanger 3 July, 2014 @ 8:48 am   15

how about another mechanic to unlock the game
