LittleBigPlanet 3 comes to life in stop-motion art – new video

Four artists transform an enormous warehouse in South London

At its heart, LittleBigPlanet 3 is all about creativity and our community is constantly surprising and delighting us with what they produce, both in the LittleBigPlanet games and outside of it. We have seen some extraordinary works of art from fans, online and in the post. It’s incredibly moving to think that the game we’re making can inspire people so much.

Ahead of the game launching in just a few weeks, we thought it was time that we got in on the act. So, we challenged a group of graffiti artists to transform a South London warehouse into a world of imagination featuring Sackboy, OddSock, Toggle and Swoop.

We were blown away by the effort the artists went to, hand-painting over 4,000 frames across three weeks to create the video below. Here’s a snapshot of what it took to make the video:

  • Four artists
  • Four film crew
  • 4,000sq ft/ 371sq m double height warehouse
  • 2,000 spray paint nozzles
  • 670 tins of spray paint
  • 324 hours painting
  • 4,012 frames painted and shot (To move a character 10ft/3m they had to be painted 30 times)
  • 750 tea bags

We can’t wait for the game to be released on 26th November (28th November in UK and Ireland) and can’t wait to see the creations that you, the community, have in store for us. We love seeing your imagination in action, whether that’s in-game, online, or in person. We’re looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!
