PlayStation Access talks to The Peasant Guard about how gaming brought them together

I have always loved gaming communities, and I’ve always believed that lifelong friendships can be found within them. For me it’s a positive side of gaming that doesn’t get enough focus. Look at Games Done Quick, an awesome series of charity speedrun marathon, whose summer event brought a huge community together and raised over $1,233,000 for charity – that’s incredible!

Nearly ten years ago I was lucky enough to find an amazing group of friends within a gaming community, many of whom I still speak to every single day, and I’ve always enjoyed hearing stories from other people who’ve also had positive experiences like this.

Just before PlayStation Access flew to Gamescom this year we caught up with Activision who were planning to take Destiny clan The Peasant Guard to Germany. This was partly so the clan could get their hands on The Taken King, of course, but also so they could all meet each other real life for the very first time. If any of you have ever had this experience of putting real-world faces to virtual friends it really is quite amazing!

So with help from Activision PlayStation Access have put a video together exploring The Peasant Guard – who they are, how they met and what online play, gaming communities and their clan means to them. We caught up with Bungie Community Manager Deej to chat about how important the social side of gaming is to both Destiny and Destiny: The Taken King, and The Peasant Guard also got to play with a replica Gjallarhorn – a lot – which turned out to be a t-shirt cannon. Sadly I didn’t get to fire it.

Have you ever made friends through gaming or gaming communities? Or maybe had a different positive experience with online gaming that had a lasting effect on you? Let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear some of your stories. Maybe there is another PlayStation Access feature in the future!

In the meantime don’t forget to check out PlayStation Access for weekly features, store updates, interviews and gameplay videos on all things PlayStation – www.youtube.com/PlayStationAccess.
