Karate Kid Competition UK Winner

Countries: , , , ,

Hi everyone,

A couple of weeks ago we held a competition inviting members of the community to attend the Karate Kid premiere and report back on the PlayStation Blog about their experience. Over the next couple of weeks you’ll hear about the winners’ experiences at their local premieres. First up, it’s Lee who went to the London premiere. Lee came in second place but stepped in the last minute to attend the premiere after the winner was unfortunately unable to attend.

My name’s Lee and a couple of weeks ago I took part in The Karate Kid competition. I submitted a review of the original Karate Kid and came as a runner-up, winning myself the original two films on Blu-Ray. As pleased as I was, the original winner unfortunately couldn’t attend the premiere and the opportunity was offered to me, which I readily accepted. So on the day of the premiere, me and a friend travelled to our paid-for London hotel and eagerly awaited the evening. The time came, and we were off.

I’ll admit I had my doubts about The Karate Kid, seeing as I still hold the original in such high regard. But as I walked through the screaming crowds in Leicester Square, along the red carpet and past the people practising Karate, it was hard not to get excited.

Taking my seat in a buzzing cinema, and finding free popcorn, the atmosphere was exhilarating enough. We were then treated to an exciting live ‘battle’ between karate and breakdance outside the cinema. As the show came to a close the Smith family and wish-he-was-my-dad Jackie Chan made their way down the aisles and took to the stage, sending the crowd into an uproar. It was brilliant to see them come on stage and give a quick introduction to the film, and made me quite excited about seeing it.

The film itself, in short, is great. A faithful remake yet with its own 21st Century personality to bring the Karate Kid story to the Ralph Macchio-less generation. Household name and martial arts legend Jackie Chan was a brilliant choice as mentor Mr Han and Jaden Smith proves his acting worth by carrying the film alongside him. It pulls at your heartstrings and slaps you in the face with its skilfully choreographed fight scenes and, by the end, you will definitely be cheering.

Win A Chance To Attend The Karate Kid Premiere – And the winners are….

Countries:

A couple of weeks ago we had some pretty cool prizes up for grabs with our The Karate Kid competition. If you were a martial arts movie fan, we asked you to write a review of your favourite martial arts film. So, quite a few of you spilled your hearts out about your love for kung fu, karate, kick boxing, ninjutsu, dakenthaijutsu (maybe not that one so much) films!

The submissions have been reviewed by the judges, who have chosen their favourite reviews – some made them smile, some made them desperately want to watch the film and some just made them want to do a high five kung-fu kick (a-hem). The best reviewer per territory will not only win tickets to attend the premiere, but also a Sony Vaio P Series and a Sony Bloggie camera.

So, here are the lucky winners:

  • London: David Hill
  • Berlin: Burhan özacardi
  • Paris: Mohamed Haddag
  • Madrid: Enrique Arroyo Terán

Check the Blog next week for yet another Karate Kid promotion…

The Karate Kid, starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, is set to launch with a series of glittering premieres across Europe ahead of its theatrical release on 28 July 2010. You can win the chance to walk the red carpet at the London premiere on 15 July 2010 and be a PlayStation Reporter for the PlayStation.Blog.

But that’s not all; to make sure you’ll be a proper PlayStation.Blog reporter, the lucky winner will also win a Sony Vaio P Series laptop and a Sony Bloggie camera. Two runners up will win the classic The Karate Kid and The Karate Kid II on Blu-ray Disc.

All you have to do is visit the competition site and send us a review you have written about your favourite martial arts movie. Simple, just tell us why you like it in the most interesting and unique way. Perhaps you’ve counted the amount of punches to the brain there are in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (46?!), or perhaps you feel you’ve unlocked the deep emotional metaphor of the bonsai tree in Karate Kid 2. Some guys at SCEE reckon they could write a 60,000 word thesis on how Jean Claude Van Damme pioneered a new form of dance during the bar scene in Kickboxer.

Once you’ve checked the terms and conditions, send your personal reviews to the email address provided on the competition page. Reviews need to be 150-300 words long and you need to be over 18 to enter and be eligible for the prizes. Please be aware that this competition is only open to residents of UK/Ireland, France, Germany and Spain. Oh, and I forgot to mention, we’ll organize your accommodation in the premiere city for the night and we’ll get you to the premiere city if you don’t live there.

So surprise us, entertain us and let the profound spiritual energy of martial arts sail from your pen tip. You have until Sunday, 27th June to enter.

And remember – don’t think, feel.

Good luck – ‘Miyagi have hope for you’
