Hello everyone,

It is with great pleasure that I can finally introduce you to our new Blog Manager – Fred Dutton.

Now I’m sure some of you may be thinking… ‘that name rings a bell’. Well, it probably does, as Fred is joining us from Eurogamer where he was their US News Editor.

As Fred comes from a solid journalistic background and has a big interest in gaming, I’m confident that he’ll be able to bring you lots of regular features that you’ll only find on the PlayStation Blog, as well as keeping you up to date with all the latest industry news.

We felt that the best way to get you acquainted would be to let you submit your ideas for his first PlayStation avatar. So we’d love to hear your suggestions (and of course knock MusterBuster off the leaderboard for most bizarre and unfitting avatar).

Please join me in welcoming Fred and making him feel right at home.

A new update of the PlayStation Official App is now available. With this new version (1.3), you will be able to get all the latest PS Vita News, Games, Peripherals info directly from your smartphone.

From the home menu, you’ll get a prompt to discover PS Vita via an augmented reality feature. All you have to do is find a PS Vita logo, zap it and this will trigger the interactive animation.

Hope you enjoy the new version and I’ll be back on the blog pretty soon to announce the next big release (version 2.0) which will be the biggest update to the app so far with new features.

Note: PlayStation Official App is compatible with iPhone 3GS, 4 and 4S with minimum of iOS 4 and for Android devices with OS 2.1 and above. PlayStation Official App doesn’t support Android devices with small screens e.g. Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini.

I announced a few weeks ago the next version of the PlayStation Official App. We have since then discovered an issue with the PSN sign in the current version (1.05). I want to thank all the users who took the time to report this problem and I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you all.

I’m happy to say that we have now released the new version (1.1) and the problem with PSN has been resolved.

What’s New In Version 1.1:

In My PSN:

• Sort your PlayStation Network friends by online status and filter them by presence.
• Search for PlayStation Network friends.
• View specific trophy details and compare them against your PlayStation Network friends.

In News & Blog:

• View comments and rate PlayStation.Blog posts.
• Write comments on posts in both portrait and landscape mode.

In Share & Discuss:

• View updates from PlayStation on Facebook, and Like, Share and comment on updates.
• View updates from PlayStation on Twitter, with the ability to Follow, Retweet and Reply.
• View and share videos from PlayStation on YouTube.

The application is available for Android handsets with Android version 1.6 and above (We do not support Android handsets with smaller screens including Xperia 10 mini) and iPhone.

Since we launched the first version of the PlayStation Official App back in January, we have consistently been keeping an eye on your feedback and ideas on the Blog, Twitter, Android Market and iTunes.

I’m pleased to announce that the next version (1.1) will include some of the most requested features. This new version will be available for download in a few weeks from iTunes and Android Market. Let’s take a look at the new features and improvements.

The latest version of the Official PlayStation App (1.05) will be available for download from the iTunes App Store and Android Marketplace from this afternoon.

The App is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch (OS 4 and above), or most Android compatible handsets (OS 1.6 and above).

In the latest version (1.05) we’ve added support for most SCEE countries which means you’ll be able to use the app in your language and also read news and find out about products that are available in your country.
