Earlier this year, you may remember that we ran a Get in the Game contest for Resistance 3. In fact, we had winners from both the US and UK fly out to San Diego in late March to get scanned for the game, and also come to the Insomniac Community Day at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Our two winners had great entries in the contest, and we were really excited to have them out to California and put them in Resistance 3. Now that the game is almost here, we wanted to give you a glimpse at the head-scanning process, and show you how they look as their characters in the final game. Take a look.
We think the head scans turned out pretty well. You might be wondering where all of the other heads in the game came from. Many Insomniacs took a bus ride from Los Angeles down to San Diego to get their headscans in. We did some mixing and blending of the heads (not as gross as it sounds) so you may not recognize us specifically, but some of our features are certainly in the game!
That’s all for now, we’re so excited for you to get your hands on Resistance 3. If you already picked up a copy, let us know what you think in the comments!
It’s with a lot of pleasure that I write today’s post. It has been nearly three years since you last played Resistance 2, and in a studio where we keep up a game-a-year schedule, that seems like a very long time to wait. I’m very happy to announce the release of Resistance 3 across Europe over the next 3 days! The team here has poured three years of their lives into bringing you the heroic survival of Joseph Capelli on his cross-country trip to New York. This brutal alternate 1957 America is our most polished take on the Resistance universe yet. Along the way, you’ll see the dust storm from a Chimeran Terraformer, a flooded town, young rebels fighting to take back St. Louis from the Chimera, haunted mine towns and a snow packed New York City. To make it even better, you can experience the whole game in 2-player co-op, either split-screen or online. Still not sold? Check out the launch trailer -which gives you the first-ever glimpse at the 12 th and final R3 weapon: The Cryogun:
For those of you who love multiplayer, Resistance 3 features our most focused experience, letting you join fifteen other players in battles located in maps across the world. Our theme for Resistance 3 MP was to create something you could only see in Resistance. The 60-level progression and our new ability and attribute system allows you to create a loadout exactly to your play style, and further establishs our “only in Resistance” theme. You’ve seen two great maps in the beta, Wales (Seaside) and Bogota (Trainyard), and two more great ones at PAX and the Insomniac Community Day (Republic of Chad, and Australia). There’s another 8 maps we’ve never shown before, including a snow-packed map, and one with some great Chimeran Architecture. We also have 4v4 and 2v2 maps as well. In short, we believe that R3 MP is a fully-featured experience.
For those of you excited about playing with Move or the Sharpshooter, Resistance 3 fully support both. Got a 3DTV? You’ll be excited to know the game supports stereoscopic 3D as well.
That said, we aren’t resting. Our team is also happy to reveal the first DLC we will have ready to release in early October. The Survival Pack brings you a brand new game mode: Invasion. Invasion requires both teams to divide resources to simultaneously own multiple control points on the map. As you hold the nodes, you’ll receive more points. It hearkens back to the wonderful balance in Resistance: Fall of Man of knowing when to send troops on the offensive, and when to hold other players back. In addition to the Invasion mode, your $$$ gets you four new skins of the various Survivors in the game, as well as a static XMB theme. Also in early October, we will release a patch for ALL players that will bring two new maps with it as well.
We’re very excited to get Resistance 3 into your hands this week. We look forward to playing MP online with you soon!
When we set out to make Resistance 3, we wanted to make it a more emotional and personal story of Joseph Capelli’s harrowing journey to New York City. It’s a brutal game, showing how humanity must heroically survive against the odds. A big element of that was making sure that our score and soundtrack represented this new emotional take for R3. It was a sincere pleasure on the part of everyone here to work with composer Boris Salchow on the score for Resistance 3. Boris was here constantly, seeing the game and talking to our team, he wanted to be invested in the story and create a great score, and we’re confident he’s done that.
It was also a pleasure to have the score for Resistance 3 recorded by an orchestra at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London. The same studio that The Beatles recorded in was used to record our score, and our colleagues in Europe were there to record the action, and give you this behind the scenes look at the Resistance 3 Score and Orchestra recording session at Abbey Road:
We’re very excited about the release of Resistance 3 next week. We hope you caught the news about our R3 Beta Player Appreciate program and the new 2.05 patch for the beta – you still have a few days left to play and qualify, and the beta is on the store and available to everyone now. For all the latest updates, be sure to follow Insomniac Games on Twitter, Like us on Facebook, or join the conversation at MyResistance.net or on eu.playstation.com
It’s hard to believe that Resistance 3 is coming out next week! It’s been an amazing journey for those of us at Insomniac Games, we’ve spent the last three years ensuring this is our most polished, focused, and consistent entry in the Resistance franchise. We’re very excited to share it with you. As we get close to release, it’s time to show you our very last Dev Diary – this one focused on the high-tech weapons created or influenced by the Chimeran invaders. We were extremely pleased to work in collaboration with the PlayStation.Blog on these diaries, and we hope you love them as much as we do.
As you may know by now, the Resistance 3 Multiplayer Beta is winding down on September 4th, but we wanted to get one last blast of testing on our servers, so we’ve made the beta available to all on the PlayStation Store. We also wanted to acknowledge that while the R3 beta wasn’t always smooth sailing, we totally appreciated those of you who helped us test the game and stuck with us through the rough patches. We’ve announced a Beta Player Appreciation program – if you download and play a few rounds of the Resistance 3 Beta before it ends on September 4th, you’ll receive a couple of cool rewards for the final game. Check out our announcement about the Beta player appreciation program for more details. We’ll be continuing to update and tweak Resistance 3 with new patches and updates, as well as DLC in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.
That’s all for now, we have a few more exciting things to show you here on the PlayStation.Blog in the next couple of days, so keep coming back for more. And in the meantime, check out all the latest breaking news on Resistance 3 by following Insomniac Games on Twitter, Liking us on Facebook, or joining the conversation at MyResistance.net.
Hey everyone! Last month at San Diego Comic-Con, we spent a lot of time in our Resistance 3 panel discussing our motion-capture techniques and how that helped us build the game’s story. At the panel, we showed an in-progress behind-the-scenes video about our mocap in Resistance 3, and how we have continued to evolve the process from the work we did on Resistance 2. That video is now complete, and we’re excited to share with you how we really brought the cinematics and characters of Resistance 3 to life. Give it a watch below.
We hope you enjoyed that behind-the-scenes look at the motion capture of Resistance 3. As always, we’d love to hear from you, so send us a reply on Twitter or on our Facebook wall or join the conversation at MyResistance.net. If you have questions about the on-going beta and updates to it, please be sure to check out our recent update here.
