The People Vs: MotorStorm Apocalypse

Countries: , , , ,

MotorStorm Apocalypse is the frantic new racing title exclusive to PlayStation 3 that throws you and your chosen vehicle into the middle of a huge earthquake. Ride superbikes, choppers and supercars through utter chaos and see every race, eruption and collision in amazing stereoscopic 3D.

This exciting new title launches in March 2011, so now is the perfect time to ask the developers anything you want about their game. Head over to the official PlayStation Forums at community.eu.playstation.com to leave your questions – they can be as weird and as wonderful as you like.

We’ll pick the best questions and put them to the game’s developer, Evolution Studios, and then post the responses over at eu.playstation.com, so make sure you check back to see if your question was used.

Alternatively, Tweet your question using the Twitter hashtag #peoplevs or drop them into the comments here on the blog.

You have until 22 February 2011 to submit your questions.

Behind The Scenes: SingStar Dance

Countries: , , , ,

In a studio in South London, professional dancers, choreographers, principal designers, members of the SingStar team and myself gathered for something pretty special.

This was the shoot for the upcoming SingStar Dance game, due for release later this year. The team were recording footage of the dancers that will be presented in-game for users to follow when playing.
Fully rehearsed and in costume, the dancers were ready to begin.

For me, watching anyone perform a well thought out dance routine is pretty impressive, and two people simultaneously performing a very long and difficult routine in perfect time is something that takes a lot of effort, practice and skill.

I spoke to choreographer Shaun Niles about how he creates a dance routine for SingStar Dance.

“It’s very hard! I have to pretend to hold the PlayStation Move motion controller myself when I work out routines to see what can be done with it. Some movements can be quite difficult, such as a flick of the wrist, and can feel a bit weird with the controller in your hand at first. Its hard work but I have choreographed a few routines for SingStar Dance now; it just takes a lot of practice!”

As the day went on, it was very clear that the dances had been carefully tailored to the song in question.
Principal designer Charlie Hasdell told me how the team decided on dance moves and routines.

“I go to all the dance rehearsals, record the performance and then play it back next to the original video. I think there is an expectation from SingStar users that when they see a dance move in a video, they want to recreate that themselves, so we try to keep it all as relevant as possible.”

Once all the dances have been perfected and recorded, they will be synced alongside the original video, then given the SingStar game treatment so they look lovely and colourful. The final step sees the dance transcribers go through each track and mark up the dance routines so you can bust some moves!

Watching the dancers, all I could think was “wow, I wish I could do that”. Thankfully, when I get my hands on a copy of the game, I’ll be able to. I hope.

THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS Competition Winners Announced

Countries: , , , ,

Thanks to all the people who entered the competition for THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS by designing their own creature card, we received some fantastic entries.

All sorts of wonderful monsters, scary animals and fantasy beasts were submitted for the competition in an attempt to win some fantastic prizes from The Eye of Judgment series.

Watanabe-san, the game’s developer, has looked through all of the entries and picked his favourites, based on the design, creativity and imagination of each card. He was really impressed with all of the entries. He told us -

Seeing all the cards seemed to bring new perspective to The Eye of Judgment series, and we enjoyed so much judging each card and thinking what the game would be like if the card was implemented.

The top prize goes to Rosa Rodriguez from Portugal for her imaginative design, Luna Light.

Both the illustration and the ability are really amazing. It looks like it becomes enormous immediately and would dominate the battlefield by projecting its giant figure onto a dome made with water.

Rosa wins a figurine of Taurus Monolith, which has been specially created for her using a 3D printer. She will also receive a large-scale copy of her own card signed by Watanabe-san.

Watanabe-san chose Ancient Mirror as second place, designed by Gerrit Märzke of Germany.

We never conceived this idea. A mirror motif will generate new aspects to the battle strategy.
When it dies, it breaks into pieces, so the creature reflected in this mirror might get damaged, too.

Gerrit receives a PSP-3000 system, along with a large-scale copy of the Ancient Mirror card, signed by Watanabe-san.

Eight runners-up will each receive a voucher code entitling them to THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS downloads from PlayStation Store, along with a large-scale copy of their card, signed by Watanabe-san

You can check out all of the winning designs at eu.playstation.com.

Something For Bank Holiday Monday

Countries:

Once again, we have been graced with the joys of the bank holiday this weekend. But, with distinctly average weather and still another two weeks until the World Cup, today could prove to be the perfect time to clock up some serious gaming hours, and it just so happens; we have a few suggestions up our sleeves.

The obvious option would be to crack on with some of the longest games available to truly make use of a prolonged weekend. The key choice would be Final Fantasy, whether it be the most recent in the series, Final Fantasy XIII, which will definitely take a while to complete, or one of the earlier titles in preparation for the arrival of the PlayStation One classic, Final Fantasy IX, which came to PlayStation Store last week.

Not up for an RPG? Never mind, there’s still plenty to keep you occupied until work tomorrow. If you’re feeling creative, you could enter our competition for THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS, and design a card for the game. There’s some pretty unique prizes up for grabs, most of which will be signed by the developers.

There’s also plenty of creativity to be unleashed if you’ve got yourself a copy of ModNation Racers, which could see you creating tracks and mods, then racing them all day with your mates.

Of course, all good things have to come to an end. This feeling will usually set in on Monday afternoon when you realise you have little precious time left before that alarm goes off on Tuesday morning. One way to get over this is to release some anger, and what better way than with UFC 2010, which is released today on PS3. Create your own fighter, get in the ring and experience the brutality of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, all from the comfort of your own sofa.

Alternatively, you could don a cowboy hat and take down some enemies in Rockstar’s latest masterpiece, Red Dead Redemption. I know that’s what I’ll be doing.
