'Heads-Up' Game Store Update 20th October 2010

This week’s update is going to be a bit different to previous weeks; it’ll be a bit more personal than usual…though I’ll go into more detail after discussing this week’s content.

Tim Schafer’s latest creation Costume Quest hits the store this week, and it’s the perfect title for unleashing your inner child and embracing Halloween with pure unadulterated joy (that you would usually get scorned for as an adult). No matter how I try and describe this title I’ll most likely do it a disservice, so just check it out and make up your own mind (Ed: you could also watch the video interview with Tim and Tasha Harris here).

Swords and Soliders also joins the ranks this week, and any game that can say (taken straight from the marketing material) “blend ninja monkeys, attacking Aztecs and brutal Vikings with everything you love about real time strategy games and you’ve got Swords and Soldiers” must be worth a look, right? Not only does this game have local and online multiplayer, it also supports 3D too, so definitely something for you with swanky 3D TVs to be taking a look at.

The rest of the content is, as ever, listed below.

Now for my news; this will actually be my very last PlayStation Store update, as I’m actually leaving SCEE next Tuesday.

[pause for effect]

It’s still hard for me to believe my time at PlayStation is coming to a close, but I’ll still be involved with the platform as I’m off to join the digital team at SEGA; so I’ll definitely be coming back every now and again with the latest news from the world of SEGA. You won’t be getting rid of me completely.

Sincerely though, it has been a pleasure being here and talking to you all on a weekly basis, and all the best for the future to PlayStation, the staff here, and you the community!

It’s been emotional.

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update (13th October 2010)

If you have any heart at all, then you will have spent the last few months giddy with excitement over the coming release of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1. I know he’s hurt us all in the past, but now we can officially move on, because this new game hurtles us straight back into the old-school action you know and love.

If you did not play the Sonic games back in the day on a Master System or Mega Drive then you won’t have the same fuzzy nostalgic feeling that I (and many others) have, but I played this new version to completion the other day and it was everything I wanted. If you’ve never played a Sonic game before, then prepare yourself for…well, I’ll just let the mighty blue one speak for himself.

That’s not all this week though, EA release the animated comic/meta game/mini games/unlock mechanism that is Dead Space Ignition. This is a glimpse into the world between the two main games, and you’ll receive unlockable content for use in Dead Space 2 when it releases.

Continuing the sci-fi theme, The Force Unleashed 2 is now available in demo form, so you can practice your lightsaber and force skills on pretty much everything you’ll see. So you can fling, push, smash and combo to your hearts content!

Petrolheads are catered for with a host of DLC for Split/Second, WRC (World Rally Championship) and Moto GP 10. As for the rest, surely I don’t need to mention this anymore…but the full list is below.

Enjoy.

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update (6th October 2010)

Good afternoon, let’s get cracking shall we.

We have one full game for you this week in the form of Ferrari: The Race Challenge. Fully featured with (up to) 16 player multiplayer, and a single player tiered career mode, you can show off your prowess with a range of some of the best vehicles ever manufactured (no Ferrari didn’t pay me to say that).

For your PSP needs we have Phantasy Star Portable 2 available, and the Essentials range keeps growing with nine additions this week (this necessitates an exclamation mark)! I also feel the need this week to highlight one of the latest minis added to the roster; Ace Armstrong Vs. The Alien Scumbags. Not only is the name fantastic, but it looks like a pretty nifty old-school shooter (like Mum used to make).

Modern Warfare 2 saw a week’s price promotion on the Stimulus and Resurgence Packs start yesterday, and we have another week of the recent Special Offers to go. I’ve also listed this month’s PlayStation Plus content for you all too, because I’m such a nice chap.

I gather some of you will have two week’s worth of abuse to hurl my way, in light of my absence last week, so I’d better get straight to the comments section hadn’t I? :-)

Laters.

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update (29nd September 2010)

Not sure if the image above makes it obvious enough, but there’s a certain game featuring a certain Lara Croft releasing today. Could you tell?

That’s not the only content releasing this week featuring a truly iconic character though; the demo for Ghost of Sparta hits the store, so now non-Plus subscribers can try the latest instalment featuring the angriest man (god) ever seen in gaming!

That’s not all for PSP owners, UFC Disputed 2010 brings its incredible MMA action to the store, as well as there being a new GTI Club title, and two new additions to the Essentials range released. Not forgetting that this Friday FIFA 11 will be released digitally too. That’s quite a lot of handheld action for one week right?

One of my favourite games of the past year see’s the fourth and final piece of DLC released, with Claptraps New Robot Revolution hitting the world of Borderlands, so grab three friends (this game is great single player, but best played co-op) and enjoy this madcap action.

There’s also a smattering of new demos, minis, add-ons, the ModNation Racers soundtrack and more; for the full list you know what to do…

I’m not actually going to be around for comments today I’m afraid, but Ross will keep his eye out and respond to any urgent queries if needs be. Back to full service next week, promise.

'Heads-Up' Game Store Update (22nd September 2010)

Good afternoon all.

In the spirit of the speedy blue one that graces us this week, I’m going to keep my intro short and sweet. Here we go….

…thanks very much, enjoy this week’s content!

Okay, okay.

(None of you probably read this anyway, and I’m in a rush, much like our blue friend) You can grab Sonic Adventure, the next Deathspank instalment, join a new hero in Blade Kitten, ride the plains again with your posse (or simple race them in the new mode) with more DLC for Red Dead Redemption, and enjoy all the other goodies as listed below. We even have PSP content this week, rejoice

How’s that for concise…and I won’t accept accusations of laziness!

*Deathspank: Things of Virtue for one week only comes bundled with the DLC packs released separately next week.

See you in the comments.
