'Heads-Up' Game Store Update (15th September 2010)

Here’s to another week and another slice of the digital content pie; though this week it’s mostly about Move related content. To celebrate the launch of PlayStation Move we have a wealth of Move related goodies for you (can I say Move enough in this opening paragraph?). [Ed. Google will love it!]

To start with, we have the games Tumble (Move controller required) and Flight Control HD (Move controller compatible) available. Tumble doesn’t need much introduction, you should have heard about this title by now. If not though, let’s boil it down to the bare essentials…you can balance, build, and (surely most importantly) destroy… I’m going to leave it at that… what more do you need to know? As for Flight Control HD, your aim is to control a stream of aircraft, and land them all successfully, so for those of you who’ve always wanted to practise your aircraft landing skills now’s your chance

The Move content doesn’t stop there; we have nine…yes NINE demos for Move titles (as well as ‘normal’ demos for FIFA 11, PES 2011 and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West) and Move update packs for EyePet and High Velocity Bowling to ensure you can play these games using your newly purchased Move controllers.

We have a new batch of Special Offers today, with deals on PAIN, Peggle and Mega Man 10 amongst others, and to celebrate the totally awesome, and most fun day of the year, ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ (Sunday 19th September) we have three Monkey Island related offers. There are one week reductions on the first two Monkey Island games, as well as a one week introductory offer on the newly released Monkey Island Special Edition Bundle. So what are you waiting for me hearties…yaaaaaargh!!

As usual, there is more content than I am able to mention in my preamble, so allow me to point you to the full listing below.

Just wanted to remind you all of our Move content… I’m not sure I’ve mentioned it yet…and I’ll leave you with the words of Young MC, get out there and ‘bust a move’ (not literally mind).

You, me, comments…be there.

Arrgh! See ya chum (that’s pirate for goodbye).

‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update (8th September 2010)

PlayStation Store

It feels like its been an age since I last posted a store update, so I’m very glad to be back… although I may not be by the end of the day if you don’t play nicely this week ;-)

I forget how this works… this is a forum for anger management? Is that right?

Of course I jest.  Please forgive me in my attempts at cracking wise.

So, onto the matter at hand: telling you folks what content we have this week.  This week for you PS3 owners we have two full games available. The classic franchise Worms returns, with more madcap action. Who honestly would have thought all those years ago that a turn-based game featuring worms and a huge collection of insane weaponry would have captured our imaginations so completely? I have lost many, many hours through the years on various Worms titles, and now I’m so pleased to be able to the same all over again with Worms 2: Armageddon.

The second full title available takes you to the DANGERZONE (the Kenny Loggins track is my favourite karaoke tune, which you can also find the awesome video on VidZone too)! I couldn’t resist, sorry. Play as Maverick and take to the skies in this new Top Gun adventure. The only thing this game is missing is mini-games featuring semi-naked volleyball and locker-room towel flicking antics, but the arcade flight action I’m sure will suffice!

There’s also new content for Mafia II, Dragon Age: Origins and more besides.  I’m not being lazy, but you know there’s a list of it all below… so what are waiting for, go and read it.

I’ll be around in the comments, though whether I respond to you or not is another matter (those that read here often enough know this is a joke; I’ll always answer what I can… within reason).

That’s your lot. Off you pop. (more…)

‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update (11th August 2010)

UPDATE: I’ve just been given the information about a new addition for PlayStation Plus today; Plus subscribers will have two week’s early access to PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap and have a 20% discount on it too.  However, if you already own PixelJunk Racers then 2nd Lap is free.

Good afternoon pilgrims, hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Over here in PSN land we have new goodies galore hitting our digital shelves later this afternoon.

As you can gather from the above image, our highlighted piece this week is the game based on the Scott Pilgrim film, which is based on the comic series, which riffs on (and is pretty much based on) popular culture and littered with many game references; don’t you just love a good old full circle?

This game takes cues from the old side-scrolling beat ‘em-ups of yesteryear (such as my favourite, Streets of Rage) and restyles it all with a slice of Scott Pilgrim inanity, as well as reaching the heady heights of 8bit graphics! Don’t worry though; it’s all intentional, and the graphical style is very much part of the game’s charms.

Moving on, yesterday we released the first add-on content pack for Red Dead Redemption. Legends And Killers adds new multiplayer elements, such as additional characters and the new tomahawk weapon, and for those of you looking to add some fresh content to your online gunslinging, now’s your chance.

There’s a few titles released for your PSP this week too, and leading the charge is the first in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series, so get prepared to finely hone those demon collection skills, in this renowned RPG.

The final piece of content I want to highlight is the demo for Mafia II. I managed to spend some time with the team at 2K last week and get my hands on the demo, and had a jolly old time. I played the same demo you’ll all be able to get your hands on today, so I won’t say anything else in case I spoil it, but let me say this – you’ll have a ten minute countdown of free-roam before you have to reach the mission checkpoint, so make the most of cruising round and seeing how much chaos you can cause

Okay, that’s enough of me, now to the matter at hand… the full list. Enjoy!

Have a good week, and I’ll be sure to speak to as many of you as possible in the comments below.

‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update (28th July 2010)

Before we get into the bones of the update, there is some meat to attend to first (I apologise for the analogy used there). I’m referring to an addition being made to the store via the Firmware update 3.41 that appeared yesterday.

Firmware update 3.41 adds recommendations for games on PlayStation Store, so when you’re browsing the description details of a title, you’ll also see an additional “You May Like” section. This section will list additional items based on purchases of other users … how you’d expect a recommendation system to work really. So you’ll start to see great titles that may have passed you by, or that you’ve forgotten about, therefore adding another dimension to your store experience – more peer power!

Please note that while the 3.41 update has been released, the recommendations feature on PlayStation Store is slated to go live by the end of July.

Okay, now onto the content this week:

As you can see from the above image an old friend returns (for the first time on PlayStation since 1995); Earthworm Jim HD is a remake of the old classic – which I may add was hard as nails, I never actually completed it – and features all the old favourite characters and levels, but now comes with added HD shininess, additional levels and a multiplayer mode. I for one am I very excited, and will be doing my best to actually complete it this time!

We have two additions to the PSone roster on the store; Pong and Rayman 2: The Great Escape. I know it’s been quite a wait to get Rayman 2 onto the store, and we’re very pleased to say that it’s now available, so grab your copy and help Rayman defend his world against the pirate invasion! As for Pong, you know what to expect and it needs no further explanation really, other than this version (originally released in 1999) comes with 3D graphics and power-ups.

That’s not all for PS3 though, we have the Madden NFL 11 demo for instance as well as much more; I refer you to the full list below for the full details.

As for your PSP needs this week there are two Harry Potter games available, a demo for Worms: Battle Islands, and four new titles added to the Essentials range. Not forgetting the three new minis that are also available.

As ever, leave your comments and I’ll be around to address what I can.

Cheers.

‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update (14th July 2010)

Deathspank. I doubt I’ll ever get to start another blog entry, or any other piece of writing, with that word again (even though it’s a made up compound word, it’s still a valid observation), so I’ll make the most of this. Purely on name alone, this game deserves to be played, however, it’s also a happy coincidence that it’s also a very nifty title. There is death involved, but as yet I’ve found very little spank action. What I have experienced though is a whole lot of fun and I cannot recommend this game highly enough.

Moving on, we have quite a lot of PSP action this week with new content released, as well as a new batch of PSP Essentials. Also, to celebrate the recent successes of our minis range, there are five new releases to get your teeth into too, and a new section on the store highlighting our most successful/favourites called ‘Thanks a Million’, so make sure you take a look.

For the rest, you know the score by now, take a look below, and then leave your insights, comments, and recipe tips in the comments section and I’ll try and duly respond as much as possible.

Cheers.
