‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (7th July 2010)

Countries: , , , ,

As one more week passes by, one more week of fresh store content is here to greet you; don’t you love this routine we have. I set out our wares, and you come along and loiter in the aisles, and touch all the merchandise leaving fingerprints everywhere, and then go on your merry way. Sometimes you may even gently abuse me too. It’s all so familiar, and when I’m not around like last week I do miss it. So it’s a pleasure to be back this week.

Anyway, enough inane blathering, I suppose it’s time to follow on with tradition and list the new content, and give you my thoughts on the highlights this week (in no specific order).

The recent monkey loving continues with the release of Monkey Island 2, in all its shiny new glory. This new edition has a new lick of paint, but there is also a wealth of other goodies including the ability to toggle between the new version and the original version (to see just how shiny and lovely the new version actually is) and a fully fledged developer commentary featuring the original creators Tim Schafer, Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman reminiscing on the making of the game amongst other things. For fans of the classic series this is a great opportunity to rekindle your love, and for anybody who hasn’t played this classic game yet – firstly, what’s wrong with you? – secondly, get it now.

There’s something called a Resurgence pack for a title you may know called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, I believe it’s some kind of shooty game where you hurt people and then cackle manically down your headset, before giving them a teabag to rub in the humiliation. Ah, how I love a good FPS multiplayer session :D

There’s more additional content goodness in the form of Leliana’s Song for Dragon Age: Origins, and the Marvel costumes and level kit for LittleBigPlanet. We’ve also given the LittleBigPlanet section a late spring clean, and tidied it up, therefore making it easier to rummage through the goodies on offer.

Before, I steer you to the full list of all the content available, allow me mention that the latest batch of Special Offers will be available today too, so for the next two weeks you can grab discounts on some great content, including After Burner Climax, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West and Half Minute Hero.

That’s enough hawking the wares for now, as usual if you so desire leave a comment and we’ll go from there.

Cheers.

A Chance To Win 3 Months Of PlayStation Plus

Countries: , , ,

This competition is now closed. Check the comments to see how it went and well done to the winners: Tha_soh, Carnivius_Prime, Djie7, SolidusDave and Xenostar.

Good morning all. As you will no doubt be well aware PlayStation Plus launched this week, and we’re feeling a little generous and wanted to give you the chance to win a 3 month subscription by joining me with some blog related fun. All you need to do is use your powers of observation and keep an eye on the comments section below. Okay, well there is actually a bit more to it than that:

  • I will post a link to an image in the comments section that will feature some banner artwork from a game that is available on the PlayStation Store. You have to use your powers of deduction to work out what game that artwork is from. The image will look something like this:

NameThatGame_blank

  • Once you have worked out the answer, the first person to respond in the comments section with the correct answer will be declared the winner (please don’t just spam game titles without actually checking the images). I will make clear in the comments section who has won.
  • I will then send the winner a code via PSN message.
  • If you are a winner, please don’t then enter again, just to be fair to everyone else
  • I’ll then post a link to the next image, and so the cycle begins again.
  • I have five codes to give away, so will be posting five images over the course of the morning.

I’ll give it an hour from the time this blog post is live, to allow people a decent chance to be aware this is going on, then I will start proceedings. Keep your eyes on the comments section for starters orders.

Just a side note, please keep any questions about Store content until next week’s update, this blog post is just a bit of fun for you to get involved with.

‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (23rd June 2010)

Countries: , , , ,

Welcome to what future civilisations may describe as something of a monster week of content.  I’m going to be modest and say it’s only slightly monster, but you get the picture; there’s a serious amount of content available this week (before anybody says otherwise, I have not been sitting on it all this time, I promise) :-)

Before we tuck into the main bulk of the update, there are new Special Offers available this week, with some monstrous PixelJunk related goodness on offer amongst other titles, and we also have a collection of Sonic goodies from SEGA on offer to help celebrate the blue one’s 19th birthday.  I asked if the spiky one was available to come to the blog to comment, but apparently he’s a game character and doesn’t actually really exist.  Shame.

So, onto the new content, let’s head straight into one of the most discussed games in these comment sections of late…The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, yes indeed it’s here at last.  Avast mateys!  Come and enjoy the piratey goodness that’s in store.  Classic gameplay, liberally covered with lovely new splashes of paint, and more Guybrush than you’ll know what to do with, sounds good right?

If you want more, then Battlefield: Bad Company 2 drops new supplies onto the front, with the new Onslaught Mode hitting hard and fast.  Adding new multiplayer co-op gameplay elements for you and three friends – thus meaning four players can test their skills across new maps – this is an explosive new addition for all you battlefield veterans out there.

Not enough for you?  Well then I hasten to add that we have the latest Sam and Max episode, retro based fun in the form of 3D helicopter adventure game Landit Bandit, Helghast additions to the world of Lost Planet 2 via the Killzone 2 Character Pack and much more besides.  There literally is too much for me to try and do justice to through my mere words…therefore, as usual, there’s a full list below.

One final thing to mention, Red Dead Redemption had its first piece of additional content hit the store yesterday in the shape of the Outlaws to the End Co-op Pack, so get downloading for more multiplayer fun in the Wild West…and even better, it’s totally free!

If you’re mean to me this week in the comments I will likely cry (which will probably happen anyway this afternoon if England get beat by Slovenia), so let’s just all bask in the glow of the global harmony the World Cup has brought and only trade compliments this week.  Deal?

Cheers all.

‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (16th June 2010)

I know most of you are more interested in E3 this week then anything I can offer, but at least spare a quick thought for your favourite digital store please :-)

You can enjoy some of the E3 fun direct from the store as we have a list of various trailers available for download, as well as the usual selection of goodies that are be available. What goodies you ask? Well goodies such as Tales of Monkey Island, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and more SingStar song packs than you can shake a stick at.

I’m not even going to try and compete with all the E3 news that’s flying around, so I’m going to keep it short this week. One final thing though; we do have some additional trailers released onto the store tomorrow too.

I’ll be around in the comments as usual.

‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (9th June 2010)

Countries: , , , ,

Good morning; don’t worry you haven’t lost track of time, this post really is up earlier than usual. This is because the store is updating earlier than usual (will be live before lunchtime), and the reason is because there will some PSN maintenance from 16.00 GMT today until tomorrow morning and you will therefore not have access to the store during this time I’m afraid (for more information check the forum post here).

Now the public service announcement is out of the way, it’s onto the task at hand; detailing the store update this week. Most weeks I debate about which decide which content to highlight, because the range of content is always pretty vast, and whilst this week is no different, for me there is one piece of content I really have to bring to your attention. Joe Danger.

This game is a testament to the skills of the team at Hello Games as they have done a truly astounding job of creating a really addictive game. Join Joe as he tries to reclaim his place back at the pinnacle of stunt bike racing; all the while flipping, spinning, pulling off sick combos, and avoiding many hazards, along the way. I’ve been lucky enough to play this already, and it’s got that pure ‘one more go’ factor to it, this game comes highly recommended.

PSP users can now take advantage of the low-priced PSP Essentials range that launches this week, and there’ll be more titles added as the weeks and months roll by. There’s also a new batch of Special Offers this week, including offers on Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battles Cars, Greed Corp, Section 8 and more.

The full list as always is below, but surely you all come here for my inane chatter and comments rather than the informative list below right? Right!? :)

You know the drill by now, you leave comments below, and I’ll respond to what I can.

Cheers.
