It’s Natalia from Boolat Games back here with great news about our PS3 exclusive, puzzle-oriented platformer Topatoi. The second episode of Topatoi saga, Pillar of the Skies, will be available in Europe this week.

As we already informed you, Topatoi: Pillar of the Skies introduces absolutely new mechanical world and plenty of new features. Checkout the gameplay video to get a glimpse of what’s coming your way:

The story mode of Topatoi: Pillar of the Skies consists of 7 new chapters of Raph’s adventures with the final Blackwing’s battle. Also, add-on brings 10 new arcade levels and features a new Double Mode. That means all new bonus levels can be played as a single-player and cooperative as well (which brings you more points and puts you to a higher position on the scoreboard). Overall, Topatoi: The Pillar of Skies contains more that 10 hours of gameplay joy and fun!

Topatoi: Pillar of the Skies with all that features and 11 new trophies will be available for just 5.99 EUR. The first episode, The Great Tree Story, is also available for 5.99 EUR. The Pillar of Skies is an add-on and requires the first episode installed, but you can start Episode 2 without completing Episode 1 levels first. But obviously we recommend you to play The Great Tree Story in order to get the necessary experience, learn the controls and the features of GEMMA device.

We’re finally glad to announce Topatoi: The Pillar of Skies, the second episode of Topatoi saga!

The world of “Topatoi: The Pillar of Skies” is absolutely different and a little bit darker in tone from what we’ve experienced in the first episode, The Great Tree Story. Check out the screenshots, with all that cliffs and machinery. So first of all Episode 2 delivers absolutely new environment, new enemies and extended gameplay experience.

As we promised you in our previous post, Topatoi: The Pillar of Skies is actually longer than Topatoi: The Great Tree Story. Our estimates are, like, 10+ hours of gameplay with Arcade Mode stuff that many of you loved in the first episode. Yes, this episode also has 10 bonus levels for the Arcade Mode, which can be played alone or with a friend in the cooperative mode!

We’re planning to release the Add-on early next year, possibly January or February. Follow our news and you’ll see more details about the new world. You’ll see how fascinating gameplay may be in the huge dynamic world in the midst of working machinery. You’ll see one of the main twists: in the dark caves of The Pillar of Skies, light is one of the main gameplay elements. Hope you will like how all this looks and works.

It has been quite a while, but today I have some splendid news to share with you. First of all, the demo of Topatoi will be available this week. Check PSN on December 3rd to download it.

Also, I cannot talk about it right now, but we have more good stuff going next week, so keep in touch. I can assure you, it will be worth it.

And the last, but not the least, I’ve combined some of the most frequent questions we’ve been receiving from the fans and asked our guys to give some answers. And here it goes, the mini-interview with the team.

Q&A with Boolat Games team

Q: So, why have you decided to develop a puzzle/platformer game, not an RTS or racing game, in other words, something in the genres you’ve tried before?

A: Well, we decided to create something in a genre that was not heavily introduced at PS3 to lower the competition factor. Plus we always wanted to create an arcade and dynamic platformer. Speaking of other genres, we didn’t really felt strong enough to start breaking ice of an RTS genre on the consoles or compete with juggernaut franchises like Burnout, NFS or Motorstorm, despite our previous experience. I mean, doing your first title for consoles, why would you do such a crazy thing? We thought it would be a good idea to start with something small, charming, and original in its concept.

Q: What games have inspired you?

A: We always liked Ballance, Switchball and other Marble Madness-inspired flicks. So that was our original inspiration. We decided to mix this concept with more traditional platformers, say, Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter. So in the end we had a very special type of a physics-driven, puzzle-laden platformer. With traditional cartoon characters and screenplay, instead of some abstract stuff.

Q: Why PSN?

A: We always wanted to try PSN. Why… generally because we like it. I mean, what other reasons do you need? And what’s important it corresponds with the ideology and concept of the game, so it was a choice of mind and heart together.

Q: Ok, and what is the Topatoi?

A: Oh… everybody wants to know. Everything’s pretty simple. Topatoi is like “top” + “toy”. With “oy” replaced by “oi” to sound more cool. Like in a “Sk8er Boi”. And contrary to some folks’ belief, it has nothing to do with the music style of oi and bands like Screwdriver. We like Avril Lavigne better!

Q: As we know there will be few episodes of the game. What are the plans of project development?

A: We’re planning to release the new episode in the nearest future. It will continue the storyline of the original episode and will bring new levels and gameplay elements to the game. We’re testing it right now. And Episode 2 it is much longer than the first one, and as you know, size matters sometimes.

Q: When should we expect the Episode 2 announcement and gameplay videos?

A: Pretty soon I think. I guess will have the announcement this month, with trailer in December. Which is quite logical since we’re looking forward for an early 2010 release, January or February.

Q: And the last but not the least, what about multiplayer and new modes?

A: We’ll have a brand new multiplayer mode in Episode 2. We’re also thinking about adding a internet-based multiplayer, as well as some other modes. And no, I’m not talking about Team Fortress, Capture the Flag or Team Deathmatch.

Maybe you’ve noticed that our 3D platformer for PlayStation 3/PSN “topatoi: The Great Tree Story” gets released at US PlayStation Store for $9.99. It is a permanent price reduction, not just “weekend sale” or something.

If you’re still not familiar with Topatoi, I’ll tell you about it briefly. As you can see in a video above Topatoi is a full 3D platformer with fun and tricky puzzles. Take a whirligig-looking craft under control and spin it around a mysterious, unexplored corner of a remote world in an effort to repair your crashed airship and attempt to rescue your girlfriend.

In this episode you can help the hero, Raph, to pass through the intricate and dangerous world of the Great Tree, combat hostile natives and negotiate with the inhabitants of a fantasy world. I’m incredibly excited to tell you some great news: the breathtaking adventure of brave explorer Raph and his friends is about to begin in a new arcade platformer game called topatoi.

The first part of the saga, “topatoi: The Great Tree Story”, is making its way into PlayStation Network tomorrow so you can enjoy it from this week. Yay!

topatoi is an arcade platformer where you have to control a gyroscopic vehicle that looks like whirligig. The unusual multidimensional abilities of this device will help you overcome puzzles and platforms in original and inventive ways. In contrast to 2D platformers, topatoi gives you a freedom of a full 3D world. Puzzle, platformer and arcade fans will be gladdened by the mixture of unforgettable adventures across the mysterious Great Tree and variety of arcade bonus levels.

Your journey begins in an unexplored and mysterious corner of a far-flung world, where Raph’s airship has crash-landed. During your travelling you’ll meet the mysterious world’s inhabitants, fight enemies and help Raph to find spare parts to fix his airship and save his girlfriend.

It doesn’t matter how many games you’ve played before, you will find a lot of fun with “topatoi”.

Currently, split-screen multiplayer mode is available, so you can enjoy the game with your friends. Further updates will also bring various multiplayer modes – I’ll be back with more information on these updates – and you can find out more about the game at the official site and PS Store as well.
