Countries: , , , ,

We are aware that a small number of people who downloaded LittleBigPlanet PS Vita from PlayStation Store during a short, very specific period of time were not able to complete the download process. This was due to a problem with the original game file that had been uploaded to the store.

The glitch was fixed as soon as we learnt about it and we’d like to confirm that LBP PS Vita is now available for download.

All affected users will be contacted directly via email, so please check your inbox.

New Features And XMB Changes Coming In System Software Update 3.70

PS3 System Software Update 3.70 will be available from 10 August, bringing new features to PlayStation Network and changes to the XMB (XrossMediaBar).

For PlayStation Plus members, System Software update 3.70 introduces two often requested features: Automatic syncing on trophies to PlayStation Network and automatic upload of game saves to Online Storage (only available to PlayStation Plus subscribers). Syncing of Trophy information will occur at the time you select in the Automatic Download settings; due to these additional functions, ‘Automatic Download’ will be renamed as ‘Automatic Update’.

System Software 3.70 will also make some changes to the layout of the XMB. The [TV] section will be renamed [TV/Video Services] and is where you will find the streaming video services available in your territory, such as BBC iPlayer in the UK.

In PlayStation Store, a ‘recommend’ feature has been added, allowing you to message your PlayStation Network friends and highlight a game or other piece of content.

MPO (Multi-Picture format) files for 3D photos and multi-angle photos can now be displayed under Photo and in [Photo Gallery].

3D playback of Blu-ray Java (“BD-J”) content is now supported. You can now enjoy BD-J content recorded on Blu-ray 3D discs.

In order to download PS3 system software version 3.70, you will need a minimum 190MB of free space on either the PS3 Hard Disk Drive (System Update) or on removable storage media (PC Update).

Sucker Punch Productions Joins SCE World Wide Studios

Sucker Punch and Sony World Wide Studios

Earlier today we announced Sucker Punch Productions has officially joined Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios. We’re thrilled to share the news and welcome Sucker Punch to the PlayStation family.

Brian Fleming, managing partner of Sucker Punch Productions had this to say about becoming the sixteenth studio to join PlayStation:

“We’ve enjoyed an incredible relationship with Sony that has allowed us to combine our creative design capabilities with their guidance to make some of the best franchises to hit the PlayStation platforms. Equally important, the relationship with SCE has provided us the flexibility and trust to take creative risks and invent new properties. And best of all, we get to keep doing what we do — pushing ourselves to make more innovative games and more exciting experiences for PlayStation gamers!”

We’ve worked closely with Sucker Punch for more than 12 years, bringing fan favorites like Sly Cooper series and, of course, the inFAMOUS storyline to life on PlayStation platforms. On behalf of our executive team and Worldwide Studios, I’d like to take just a moment to welcome this immensely talented group of individuals to our team. I look forward to seeing what kind of gaming magic we can make happen in the months and years ahead!

Thank You Letter From The British Red Cross

Countries: , , , ,

In the wake of the earthquake that struck Japan on 11 March 2011, we enabled our users to contribute to the emergency relief effort via PlayStation Store. A few days ago I received a letter from the British Red Cross thanking us for the generous contribution to their vital humanitarian efforts. However, that gratitude must go out to you, our kind-hearted gaming community.

Here is the letter in full and I’d like to join the British Red Cross in commending you for reaching out to those in great need.

On behalf of the British Red Cross I would like to thank you for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s generous donation of £466,465.60 to support our immediate response to the biggest earthquake in its history which struck Japan on 11th March, measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale. The earthquake struck 250 miles northeast of Tokyo and triggered a devastating tsunami with up to 38 metre waves, which swept away everything in its path. More than 13,000 people have been confirmed dead so far and 14,000 are still missing or unaccounted for.

The Japanese Red Cross has been working on the ground since the disaster began, mobilising some 4,000 doctors, nurses and support staff. It is providing first aid and health care through mobile clinics, and support to the most vulnerable communities in the worst affected areas of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima. So far, 34,430 patients have been treated. Counselling services have been provided to a further 1,600 people, who are experiencing trauma or have suffered the loss of a family member.

Thanks to the PlayStation community’s amazing contribution to the appeal, the Japanese Red Cross is able to support victims of the tsunami with cash grants. These will be given to victims who have lost immediate family members; families whose homes were destroyed by the earthquake, tsunami or resulting fires; families whose homes were severely damaged; and households who have been required to evacuate. It will equip up to 70,000 transitional shelters with a package of essential home appliances, benefiting some 280,000 people.

Thank you again for helping us to be there when it matters most.

Yours sincerely,
The British Red Cross
