Digital Comics Store Update (22nd December 2010)

Countries: , , , ,

Welcome to the last comics store update of the year, and boy is it a big one! We have 82 new comics to keep you busy over the festive period. Plus we have some rather exciting news, we finally have a Manga publisher on board. You’ve probably heard of TOKYOPOP, they were apparently responsible for introducing the term manga to the English language. They have a catalogue of over 3,000 books and have worked on creating manga versions of major brands like Star Trek all the way through to SpongeBob SquarePants.

Digital Comics Store Update (22nd December 2010)

So without further ado, let’s look at this week’s highlights.

From TOKYOPOP, who ya gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS, of course! Find out what’s been happening since the Ghostbusters last saved New York City as Peter, Ray, Egon, Winston and the rest of the gang make their first manga appearance!

Based on one of the most popular fantasy films of all time, Legends of The Dark Crystal is a manga prequel set hundreds of years before the events of the film, when the gentle Gelflings and wise Mystics are still thriving. And so, unfortunately, are the evil Skeksis…

Halloween has always been and always will be about one thing…getting the best CANDY. Some fiendish friends excel at tricks if they don’t get the right treats. Follow what happens in I Luv Halloween; when these gremlins receive a frickin’ apple at their first house of the night, they plan deadly revenge on the offending fruit-favouring old-timer.

Going where no manga has gone before, check out Star Trek: The Manga which is set in the original series.

The highlight from Marvel this week must be Tron: Original Movie Adaptation. A stunning new visualization of the original TRON film. Learn the secrets of the Tron Universe. Discover its cast of dynamic characters. Witness the events of the legendary film in an all-new comic event.

Finally, from BOOM! comes an adaption of one of my favourite books, Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? I believe someone made a film about it too…

Digital Comics Store Update (17th November 2010)

Hi everyone, as we approach our first anniversary the team are busy preparing something special for you all. So it is left to me to tell you about today’s releases.

For WoW fans we have World of Warcraft: Curse of the Worgen #1. A series of grisly, animalistic murders have rocked the walled town of Gilneas. A famous detective sets out to discover the perpetrators and finds far more than he bargained for. To find the truth, he must delve through years of twisted history – both the history of his family and Gilneas itself. This pivotal 5-issue miniseries explores the in-depth lore of the Worgen!

Artist Ludo Lullabi tells us more in this exclusive creator Q&A:

- The artwork evokes the atmosphere of Azeroth perfectly. How challenging was it to capture this world in the format of a comic book?

Before working on the World of Warcraft comics series, I was a regular player and knew the general atmosphere of the game. The adaptation of my art to the comics came naturally… When i wasn’t sure of something, I went into the game on my tiger mount to study the places in which the story took place!

- How much WORLD OF WARCRAFT do you play?

I played World of Warcraft very regularly when the game came out, as well as Burning Crusade. Due to a lack of time because of my work and also the fact that I want to discover all other games out there, I play less and less. I have not investigated everything in Wrath of the Lich King yet. My avatar is still lvl 78, though…

- Who are your favourite comic creators?

I am influenced by many creators but to quote only some of them: Joe Madureira, Humberto Ramos, Katsuhiro Otomo.

- Name some of your favourite comic book characters, and artistic influences.

The comic books which most influenced me are “Akira” by Otomo and “Battle Chasers” by Joe Mad.

Elsewhere, Markosia bring us Turkey Grove Farms. Something has gone very wrong on the farm, tired of ending up on people’s plates the turkeys revolt and force the farm hands to provide them with a certain turkey substitute. A dark, adult but most of all, funny comic that you should be sure to pick up. Just look out for the over amorous bull.

IDW deliver the next instalment of a personal favourite, Locke and Key: Keys to the Kingdom. In case you didn’t know Stephen Spielberg is producing a Locke & Key TV series, so why not read the comics before everyone jumps on the band wagon!

Born in fire. Raised by monsters. Destined to destroy. On an alien planet shattered by war, no one is stronger than Skaar, the savage Son of Hulk. Marvel release the first two issues today.

That’s it from me. Check out the list below for all the new releases, or check out our website to browse the entire catalogue and to take part in the forums.

Digital Comics Store Update (11th August 2010)

Hello everybody! It’s time to have a look at this week’s new digital comics.

110810

DC Comics release the first two issues of one of my favourite comics series Y: The Last Man. If you’ve not heard about it the premise is simple. A mysterious plague has killed every man (& beast) on earth except Yorick Brown and his pet monkey. Now this may sound like a good thing for Yorick as it’ll be up to him to repopulate the human race… But the world he wakes up to is a confused & dangerous one; there are even some women who call themselves the Amazons claiming that nature wiped out the oppressive men so that the fairer sex could take over the world. Brian K. Vaughan (Runaways) has created a wonderful, thought provoking series and I recommend it to you all.

DC also bring you a free copy of Safe Inside (Zuda) and we start a new series of Green Lantern: No Fear.

From Marvel this week we have all 5 issues of Venom: Dark Origin in which we discover the true twisted roots that gave rise to a lifetime of malevolence for Eddie Brock.

We also see the first issue of a book that follows the exploits of a gun-wielding monkey assassin. The simian witnesses the destruction of his tribe at the hands of a bunch of armed men. With no family and no home, the only thing left for him to do was avenge his fallen brothers. “And thus the legend was born. A killer of killers, forever to be known… as Hit-Monkey”

Finally don’t miss the 3rd issue of Eternal Descent From IDW.
