Digital Comics Store Update (28th July 2010)

Countries: , , , ,

We’ve got an absolutely massive update for you this week. First though we have a some good news. Many of you have asked for a way to buy complete series or story arcs instead of having to buy each issue individually. From today we are offering you the opportunity to purchase comic bundles at a lower price than if you purchase each issue. What better way to get in to Wormwood: Gentlemen Corpse (5 issues for £3.19) or Zombies vs Robots (3 issues for £1.89)? You’ll find them on the store in the section marked “Bundles” and a full list of them below.

Digital Comics Store Update (28th July 2010)

On to this week’s highlights:

We have two more free comics from DC this week. The first wins my best title award: Bottle of Awesome #1. Billy Butterman is a loser, a putz. High school is a total nightmare: all the cool guys pick on him, girls ignore him. That is, until the day he encounters a mysterious hobo, who urges him into drink from a bottle of awesome. However, he warns Billy not to drink too much, for a person can become too awesome. Will Billy heed his words?

The second free comic introduces us to the world of Ex Machina which Publishers Weekly described as “…half X-Files, half West Wing and 100% genius”. Ex Machina is far from a traditional “cape and tights” adventure story. It is a sophisticated superhero story for readers who are sceptical of anyone who can jump over a building in a single bound. The second issue is also on the store for 79p
IDW continues the epic tale of Dragon Age, the second issue is out now!

We also see Jurassic Park #1 – It’s been 13 years since little Tim and Lex Murphy escaped from the island of Isla Sorna, and recent public opinion has reversed, with the world clamouring for authorities to re-open Jurassic Park! With the help of their controversial Granddad’s inheritance and their own sharp wits, a secret deal is struck to open a new park! This time they’ll get it right…right? Bob Schreck makes his writing debut on this all-new tale, under covers from fellow industry legends Frank Miller and Tom Yeates!

From Marvel this week we have more Daredevil and all six issues of The Infinity Gauntlet which happens to be one of the best stories Marvel has ever told.

Disney fans should be happy with Pocahontas. Or if you are after something more mature then check out Markosia’s beautifully disturbing Breathe #1. (more…)

Digital Comics Store Update: 21 July 2010

As I’m sure you’re acutely aware, Comic-Con 2010 is finally upon us. While the whole world (and his/her dog) descends in droves to the San Diego Convention Center, some of us have been left behind to make sure you all have some nice new books to read. Jealous? You bet.

Digital Comics Store Update: 21 July 2010

Luckily, this week sees a veritable plethora of eye-catching new releases to, erm, catch your eye.
Ever fancy sinking your teeth into a nearby nubile neck? Longing for some erotically-charged romance, wry humour and intriguing mystery and suspense? Fill your boots with True Blood, an all-new comic book series based on HBO’s hit show about the lives and loves of vampires, mind readers and all manner of creatures. Bon Temps, Louisiana has never been stranger, or more twisted, in a story co-plotted by TRUE BLOOD series creator Alan Ball, with a script by David Tischman (Bite Club) and Mariah Huehner, and lush art by David Messina (Star Trek: Countdown).

True Blood for PlayStation.Blog

Turning the tables somewhat, IDW also bring us a new volume of Hideyuki Kikuchi’s Vampire Hunter D from Digital Manga Publishing. A new breed of vampire has emerged; one which can seemingly hunt during the daytime. O-oh. Losing the safety daylight offers, panic and mass hysteria begins to grip the townspeople—inciting riots and lynch-mobs. Amidst the turmoil, the enigmatic vampire slayer known only as “D” is called in to investigate.

Jeff Smith’s beloved award-winning epic “Bone” and the ongoing “RASL” make their PSP debuts this week under the Cartoon Books imprint. Jeff will be making a number of appearances during Comic-Con – check out boneville.com for more info.

Matthew Michael “Matt” Murdock, or Daredevil as he’s known to everyone except his dear old mother (who probably calls him “Matty”) leaps out of Hell’s Kitchen once again in the groundbreaking “Without Fear” story arc. Check out the star-studded, triple-sized 100th issue for additional WIN.

That’s just some of the highlights. Here’s the full list.

Digital Comics Store Update (14th July 2010)

Hi everybody, Digital Comics Wednesday is upon us once again. Each week it gets harder to choose what to highlight, but I’ll do my best. If you think I’ve missed something just shout in the comments.

Blog140710

A strong showing from DC Comics this week. First off there is a free issue of Zuda’s aquatically themed Azure. Next up is the second issue of last week’s best selling comic; keep up to date with the adventures of Kratos in God of War #2.

Another one-shot from Warren Ellis – Planetary/Batman which features various interpretations of Batman spanning the character’s history (Even Adam West’s!)

For Wildstorm fans follow the World’s End event in Gen13 #21, The Authority #1, Wildcats #1 & Stormwatch PHD #13.

From Marvel we have more Marvel Zombies and some classic The Invaders (1975). Set during the opening days of World War 2, Churchill bands together an elite fighting unit, including Captain America, to battle the Nazis.
