Dive Into PS Vita’s Augmented Reality Suite

At CES, we scored a backstage demo of Table Football, one of three augmented reality games that show off PS Vita’s Wide Area Augmented Reality capability.

Today, Sony Santa Monica Sr. Manager Dave Thach returns with two new augmented reality games, Fireworks and Cliff Diving. Both are part of the Augmented Reality Suite coming exclusively to PS Vita on Feb 22nd on PSN for free. Also, packaged with your PS Vita will be six AR cards which will also work with Reality Fighters, and other great AR experiences.

Fireworks transforms the world around you into a firework display where you’ll literally touch the apex of the firework for multipliers, combos and points. Cliff Diving introduces you to diver Dave, where you’ll have him cliff diving off your coffee table into a virtual body of water.

Before you check out this video, make sure you watch our very first tour with Table Football which completes AR Suite on PS Vita.

Instead of telling you more, I’ll let Dave Thach show you!

Need for Speed: The Run – 200 Racers, One Avalanche

Countries: , , , ,

You may recognize Executive Producer Jason DeLong on Need for Speed: The Run from our live E3 show, which we streamed live from our PlayStation booth earlier this year. Interactive cinemas, fast cars and loud tunes propelled The Run at E3, but all along EA Black Box was quietly scheming to reveal more at gamescom.

In my play session, I chased after a pearl white Laborghini Aventador down a treacherous mountain road on Independence Pass in Colorado. Then it happened: I found myself staring at an oncoming avalanche from behind the wheel of my car, plowing and drifting through chaos while I sat comfortably in a dark room at EA‘s show floor. I couldn’t help but smile after my demo session with Need for Speed: The Run, knowing that I finally got to play a true-to-forml Michael-Bay-inspired Hollywood action racer on my PS3.

I got a few minutes with DeLong and picked his brain about a retaining the authenticity and how the high-tech Frostbite rendering engine opens up new storytelling vistas for this action racer.

UNCHARTED 3 At Gamescom: What Is Drake’s Deception?

Countries: , , , ,

If you were one of the hundreds of thousand of fans that tuned into our E3 2011 PlayStation press conference, you may have caught Naughty Dog‘s Community Strategist Arne Meyer give viewers a full demo of UNCHARTED 3‘s cruise ship sequence, a tense scenario that married technical prowess and high action as Drake struggled to escape the doomed vessel.

Today, Naughty Dog has returned with another epic reveal. Spread the word: the PlayStation.Blog is the only place you’ll find HD video of the airstrip sequence from the gamescom PlayStation press event. For an added bonus, Arne and I discuss the challenges behind keeping UNCHARTED 3 as spoiler-free as possible, and how specific sequences are deliberately designed to reveal new game mechanics, story and characters at specific milestones in the game’s development process.

Watch it above, and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Greetings from Cologne, Germany. Moments after we wrapped up our PlayStation gamescom press event, Dylon Jobe and I jumped in front of the camera and did what he does best, talk Starhawk. Lightbox Interactive and Santa Monica Studios finally revealed the much anticipated space level and fan favorite from Warhawk; the jetpack (with some new bells and whistles.)

Make sure to watch all three minutes of our interview for the quick skinny for the latest on Starhawk at gamescom — for a more in-depth look, keep an eye out for Jeff’s feature from his behind close door session with Dylan Jobe, coming up this week.
