Fred here, reporting from the SCEE lounge at E3 2013, where I’m nursing some seriously sore feet after a long day pounding the show floor. First up today was a quick look at The Evil Within, the new survival horror title from legendary developer Shinji Mikami, the man behind Resident Evil. Any gamers out there who haven’t entirely been on board with the genre’s slow creep from ‘survival’ to ‘action’ in recent years will be in seventh heaven here. This is a game built on the exact same foundations that made Resi such a successful shocker back in the day.

So, everyone enjoying E3 so far? I’ve spent my first day on the show floor and alongside the heady musk of sweaty games industry workers, there’s a palpable buzz in the air for all things PlayStation. There are a huge number of titles on show for PS Vita, PS3 and, of course, PS4 – over for the next three days I’ll bring you a quick daily round-up of everything I manage to get my hands on.

First up this morning was Media Molecule’s irresistibly lovely PS Vita adventure Tearaway. It looked great when we last checked in with the game in February , but Rex Crowle and his team have spent the last four months adding layer upon layer of charm and whimsy, really elevating it to the next level. It’s now a game overflowing with bright ideas, eccentric distractions and pure, freewheeling fun.
