Hello dear blog readers, Rob Burman from SouthPeak Games here. Hopefully you’ll remember I was here last month to encourage everyone to create a hero using the online character creator for the explosion of retro goodness that is 3D Dot Game Heroes. The contest was extremely successful and we had entries from across Europe. A big thank you to everyone that entered, but unfortunately only five people can be the extremely proud recipients of a massive foam sword and a copy of the game. So, without further ado, here are the lucky winners:

This character was absolutely fantastic and I can’t begin to think how long this must have taken. In fact, we didn’t even know this much detail was possible in the creator. I’m going to go out a limb and say this must have taken 100 hours to make.

I love dinosaurs, so this entry was my personal favourite. It’s a good job I didn’t mention on the blog that I like dinosaurs otherwise everyone would have created a raptor. In fact, this entry inspired me to create a dinosaur as my character in the game too!

We had a few entries from Jasmin and they were all of a very high standard. The hair alone in this hero is a piece of art. In fact, this entry inspired me to die my hair this colour…

We liked this one because it was more of a classical knight – like something out of Japanese anime. You can imagine this hero tackling giant lizards or angry robots…or perhaps that’s just my imagination running wild.

Hey, who said Arnold Schwarzenegger could be a character in 3D Dot Game Heroes? Shouldn’t he be busy imposing ridiculous tax laws in California? Oh…it’s not Arnie, my apologies. Still, it’s a very good hero and we liked his big grin.

Anyway, hope you like all the winners as well. By the way, as a reminder, if you’ve got a copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes remember to create a character using the in-game editor and then email it to ukoffice@southpeakgames.com because it could potentially appear as an official downloadable hero on the website www.southpeakgames.eu. Hello, Rob Burman from SouthPeak Games here. Did you know it’s D-day in Europe? That’s right, it’s Dot-Day… the launch of super duper retro explosion 3D Dot Game Heroes on PlayStation 3. I’m excited! I hope you’re excited too. Hopefully by now you have seen the wonderful videos and the online character creator we made to give you a taste of the wicked in-game version (the competition we ran previously featuring that has now closed, by the way – I’ll be letting the proud owners of a giant foam sword know soon).

Actually – and here comes a seamless link – I’m not just here to remind you it’s D-day, I’m also launching a competition that could see a hero created by you appear on the official European 3D Dot Game Heroes website, where everyone can download it and play as your character in the game! Imagine how much you could boast about that in forums. You’d be treated like a king and it would obviously make you more attractive to members of the opposite sex*.

Here’s how the competition works… firstly, you’re going to need a copy of the game (but you were going to buy one today anyway, right?), then use the pixel perfect character creator to make a stunning hero that makes people feel powerful when using it.

Once you’re happy with your creation, copy it from the 3D Dot Game Heroes save game file of your PlayStation 3 onto a USB stick. Now pop the USB stick into a PC and email the contents, along with your name and country, to ukoffice@southpeakgames.com(ideally it would be great to zip the files up please). You can enter as many times as you want, so get creative!

There is one restriction though – please don’t copy any videogame, comic, movie or TV characters because we want totally ORIGINAL heroes to save Dotnia. We’ll select 10 unique heroes – alongside the name of their creator – to feature on the 3D Dot Game Heroes website where they can be downloaded by anyone who visits the site. The closing date for the competition is May 28th so what are you waiting for? GET PIXEL PLACING!

*It almost certainly won’t make you more attractive unfortunately, sorry.

Hello, it’s Rob Burman here, you may remember me from such blog posts as announcing 3D Dot Game Heroes and showing off a new 3D Dot Game Heroes video. Well, now I’m here to reveal an exciting competition we’re working on with the PlayStation Blog Europe that could see you, yes YOU, winning a super duper limited edition prize and a copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes – which is coming exclusively to PlayStation 3 on May 14th.

But what’s the competition, I hear you cry… well, one of the very cool features of 3DDGH is the character creator, which lets you make your own hero pixel by pixel. If you want to be a monkey in a bowler hat, no problem! A robotic pink pirate? Go ahead. Seriously, as long as you’ve got a little bit of imagination, you can go wild with the character editor. You can even share them with friends by popping them on a USB stick.

To celebrate this awesome tool, we’ve created a simplified online version of the character creator – http://designer.3ddotgameheroes.eu/ - to give you a taste of what to expect from the more in-depth finished product and now we want you to make some fantastic heroes and enter them into a competition. The winner will receive a copy of 3D Dot Game Heroes and a very limited edition foam sword, just like the one used in the game. In fact, there are only 20 of these in the world… even I’m not allowed to keep one . The sword looks a bit like this but does not include me looking like an idiot.

To be in with a chance of winning, just make your own hero in the online character editor, save it as a jpeg and then email it to ukoffice@southpeakgames.com. The closing date for entries is May 11th and we’ll announce the winners on the PlayStation Blog on May 13th. Also, remember to join the 3D Dot Game Heroes Facebook group to keep up to date with what’s happening.

Yes, it may be the start of a new decade, (where are those flying cars and robot butlers, by the way) but I’m here to celebrate the past… or more specifically, the past of videogames. Why am I revelling in the world of yesterday? Well, it’s because I’m here to announce a brand new PlayStation 3 exclusive: 3D Dot Game Heroes – a nostalgic wonder-fuelled time-travelling trip back to the glory days of 8-bit gaming. And it’s coming to Europe this May. Rejoice!

3D Dot Games Heroes takes its inspiration from classic role-playing games released on ancient consoles that are now appearing on the Antiques Roadshow. In fact, people who played videogames throughout the 1980s will fall to their knees and weep when they see Dot’s many homages to the games that defined their childhood (I’ve seen it happen). It’s a virtual trip down memory lane complete with swords, wizards and monsters.

However, this is modern retro, so it has splendid PlayStation 3-powered graphics that give traditional sprites a new 3D lease of life, simple pick-up-and-play controls, which hark back to a time when you didn’t need a load of buttons just to open your inventory, and a fun tongue-in-cheek storyline with plenty of links to the past… ahem.

But, one of the greatest features of 3D Dot Game Heroes (and there are plenty to choose from) is the sweet character creation system so you can make your own blocky hero. Whether you fancy becoming an adventuring cat, a hard-as-nails robot, or a ‘tribute’ to a well known videogame character, you just have to build them using the straight forward and intuitive system. Or you can pick from one of the ready-made characters, who each have their own unique traits.

Well, that’s it for now, so here’s that important release info again: 3D Dot Game Heroes will be released by SouthPeak Games on PlayStation 3 in Europe this May.
