FirstPlay Episode 54

Hello everyone,

Happy NearlyEaster! I’m back to tell you what we have coming up for you in episode 54 of FirstPlay, which is out this Wednesday and nearly as high as we can count.

Blog_fplay_batman

This week we don our finest not-getting-shot trousers to review the awesomely mean but very playable Operation Flashpoint: Red River, and we also catch-up with two of our most anticipated games of the year: Batman Arkham City, with a brilliant interview from Rocksteady Studios, and Battlefield 3.

We’ve also got a reviews round-up of recent PS3 releases including movie tie-in Rango and geek-chic slash ‘em up No More Heroes: Heroes’ Paradise. Then we’re wading through mucky manbits as we deliver our verdict on Bulletstorm online, chat to Guilty Gear and BlazBlue brains Daisuke Ishiwatari and Toshimichi Mori, and because it’s Easter and we love you, list our favourite PlayStation easter eggs. Oh, and there’s our regular screenshot galleries too, this week including The Darkness 2 and Alice: Madness Returns.

All of this comes for the teeny price of 99p, which can be made even teenier if you buy a 12 week subscription at £8.99.

We always want to hear your thoughts and feedback, so get in touch on FirstPlay@futurenet.com, or we’re on Twitter at @firstplay_uk. I’m @nathanditum, producer Dave is @bodbod and assistant producer James is @James_Jarvis.

I’m back to give you a heads up on what’s coming in this week’s FirstPlay, which as usual is up on the Store from Wednesday.

This week we’ve got an exclusive behind the scenes look at the ork-tearing action of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine all the way from Relic Entertainment‘s studios in Vancouver. The game looks bigger and more brutal each time we see it, and their office is also packed with 40K miniatures showing off some pretty sweet drybrush work (+10 geek points if you know what I’m talking about).

We’re also catching up on a couple of recent releases which, for one reason or another come with a double helping of nostalgia. The first is Tomb Raider Trilogy HD, which reminds us that while Lara might not be as funny as Nathan Drake she’s way better to look at from behind for ten or more hours. And then there’s WWE All Stars, a royal rumble of wrestling heroes old and new featuring pumped supermen of our youth like Ultimate Warrior, Bret Hart and, uh, The Honky Tonk Man.

Aside from that we’re reviewing The Tourist on Blu-ray, chatting to Lego games developer Travellers Tales and reeling off our top ten skill kills from the gloriously gruesome Bulletstorm. There’s also a round-up of downloadable content for the likes of Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow and Dead Space 2 and the latest screens from The Last Guardian, LA Noire and more.

Hello everyone,

Excitement! This week we reach the one year mark with episode 52. Yes, it’s only been two weeks since we made a big deal about episode 50, but we’ll use any excuse to eat another slice of cake and wear a paper hat. And, more seriously, we’re very proud to have been making FirstPlay for a year, so big thanks to everyone who’s helped make it possible and especially you guys for watching every week.

I hope you’ll be watching this week too, because we have another packed line-up. First up we have previews of two very different shooters – innovative multiplayer-heavy blaster Brink, and brain-breaking physics-’em-up Portal 2 (with an extra special guest star in the shape of personality construct Wheatley). We’ve also got a review of motion-controlled scramble PlayStation Move Heroes, and a look at alien road movie Monsters on Blu-ray.

On top of that we’ve got a review of Killzone 3 online, in which we spend a lot of time turning invisible and unleashed nasty melee kills, and we rate new arcade shooter Ghostbusters: Sanctum Of Slime. There’s also round-ups of the latest downloadable movies and PSP comics, and screenshot galleries including Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine and Battlefield 3.

All of this comes for the teeny price of 99p, which can be made even teenier if you buy a 12 week subscription at £8.99.

Hello everyone,

A quick heads up on what’s coming in this week’s episode of FirstPlay, which is number #51 and hits the Store this Wednesday.

First up we have a pair of lush HD reviews, with crisp New York-toppling shooter Crysis 2 and polished sim racer Shift 2: Unleashed going under the reviews hammer. We’ve also got a preview of Duke Nukem Forever (finished just before they shifted the release date – don’t write in!) and a round-up of recent PS3 releases including Top Spin 4 and Two Worlds 2.

Elsewhere we put our regular 10 Questions to Operation Flashpoint: Red River boss Sion Lenton, quiz lead designer Sten Hübler about the making of Crysis 2, and round-up the latest minis. We’ve also got a review of rhythmic update Chime Super Deluxe, and our regular screenshot galleries, this week including Shadow Of The Damned and Dead Island.

All of this comes for just 99p, or less if you pick up a 12 week subscription for £8.99.

If you have any feedback you can email at FirstPlay@futurenet.com, or we’re on Twitter at @firstplay_uk. I’m @nathanditum, producer Dave is @bodbod and assistant producer James is @James_Jarvis. We’d love to hear from you.

Hello everyone,

I consider myself a man of culture and understanding, but I will fight you with fists if you disagree that Ico is the best game made on any system from any time. It just is. So I was particularly excited to visit the studio of Team Ico for a look at their latest game, The Last Guardian, and an interview with chief creative director Fumito Ueda, all of which you can see in this week’s FirstPlay.

FirstPlay Episode 48

Episode 48 will be on the Store from this Wednesday, and apart from the awesome Last Guardian it also includes a preview of mental PlayStation Move slasher No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise, and our guide to why you must play fantastic PSN puzzler Stacking if you haven’t already.

On top of that we’re also reviewing veteran ass-kicker RED on Blu-ray, talking to developer Traveller’s Tales about the history of the Lego games, rounding up our favourite surprise endings on PS3 and a look at some of the latest downloadable games on the Store.

There’s also a round-up of the latest PSP comics, and our regular screenshot galleries, which this week include looks at Crysis 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Lord Of The Rings: War In The North.

All of this comes for just 99p, or less if you pick up a 12 week subscription for £8.99.
