Just two more weeks until the Killzone Trilogy bundle is launched. There’s only one way to properly celebrate such an occasion: organise a post-launch Double XP Weekend!

From Friday, 26th October at 5:30pm UK time, until Monday, 29th October at 9:00am UK time, you can earn twice the regular amount of XP during online multiplayer matches of Killzone 2 and Killzone 3.

If you’re new to the Killzone universe, this is your chance to catch up with the higher ranks! If you’re a hardened veteran, this is a great opportunity to revisit some of your favorite maps!

Announced last week, the Killzone Trilogy box set combines Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 with a high-definition PS3 remaster of the original Killzone. Today we take a closer look at Killzone HD, and the challenging new trophy set that comes with it.

Originally released for Killzone tells the story of Jan Templar, an ISA Captain whose home planet comes under attack from an invading Helghast army. Together with a hot-headed sergeant named Rico, a deadly Shadow Marshal known as Luger and the half-human, half-Helghast spy Hakha, Templar must attempt to reactivate the Orbital Defense Platform and drive the invading forces from his planet Vekta.

Now, this rip-roaring introduction to the Killzone universe has been remastered in HD for inclusion with the Killzone Trilogy bundle. Featuring a single player campaign with four playable characters and an offline multiplayer mode against AI opponents, Killzone HD has received a thorough audiovisual overhaul: the game boasts 720p graphics at a steady 30fps, with MSAA filtering, sharper textures and higher quality sound effects. Hello everyone. I’m very pleased to share with you news that I hope will bring some excitement to those readers with a predilection for all things Helghast and ISA and those who perhaps could well have in the very near future. I can confirm that 24th October will see the launch of Killzone Trilogy.

As you may ascertain from the Trilogy moniker, this forthcoming release will feature all three ground-breaking PS2 and PS3 titles that form the critically acclaimed Killzone triptych.

Here’s a rundown of what you can find contained within the appropriately dark and brooding box. Firstly, we have Killzone HD – which, as you may have guessed, is the curtain-raising original Killzone that kick-started the series, but now with a stunning HD makeover and full trophy support.

Whether they loved the original Killzone 2 control scheme or felt that it was too ‘weighty’, most beta participants seem to agree on one thing: the Killzone 3 control scheme gets the balance just right.

In a new developer video, Guerrilla developers Mathijs de Jonge, Jan-Bart van Beek and Arjen Bokhoven talk about the fine-tuning process that helped them come up with a control scheme that would satisfy both fans and critics. They also reveal new details about the other control-related features in Killzone 3:

The brutal melee system, which allows players to neutralize their opponents in a myriad of up-close-and-gory ways.

The slide-to-cover mechanic, which allows for free-form sliding so players can use it to dodge enemy fire.

The addition of a third weapon slot, reserved specifically for heavy-duty weapons like the Minigun and the W.A.S.P. Launcher.
