If you’ve had a passing acquaintance with PlayStation Blog over the last few weeks you might well have noticed some of the exciting new content being released for Gran Turismo 5. Initially there was the bumper pack of free content within Update 2.0 that became available last week. At the same time last week we also confirmed exactly what was coming your way within the new DLC packs for the game.

Well folks today is DLC day and I am happy to confirm that all of the five packs are now available. So (making sure you have downloaded Update 2.0) head over to PlayStation store and take your pick of the Racing Car, Course, Racing Gear or Special Paint Packs…heck you might even throw caution to the wind, go the whole hog and bag yourself the entire set in the Complete Pack. The choice is yours…

To set the decision making process off (and to see some of the new content in action) check out the re-worked GT5 opening movie that was included in Update 2.0. Enjoy!

GT5 Release Announcement

Last week I made a post that outlined all the great new content incoming for GT5, well today is the day for the first wave of that new content – Functionality Update 2.0 is out now, so make sure you are online with your PS3, load up GT5 and it should update automatically.

As you know, you can always check which version of the game you are running by pressing the “Manual” button at the bottom of the main menu screen. The version number will be located on the upper left of the index page in this manual. If the number starts with Ver. 2.00, you know you’re up to date.

If not, press the PS button and quit the game. The game will be updated automatically when you restart it with your PS3 system connected to the Internet.

Update 2.0 is a fairly major enhancement for GT5 with some great new features and free content, as well as some popular improvements and fixes. Enjoy it!

In my last post I also promised to give you more details of the DLC that will be released on PlayStation Store on 18th October. There are four new packs plus a ‘complete pack’ that bundles them altogether at a discounted price.

Hello Gran Turismo fans,

When Gran Turismo 5 launched almost a year ago now, Kazunori Yamauchi, the game’s creator, promised fans clutching their copies of the Real Driving Simulator, that the launch of the eagerly awaited title was not the end of the journey for the game but the start.

True to that statement, since GT5 launched Yamauchi-san and the Polyphony team have been closely monitoring the feedback of the dedicated and discerning GT5 community.  As a result of this, we have seen significant support for GT5 in the form of regular functionality updates.

Today, I am very pleased to announce details of Functionality Update 2.0 which is the most sizable since the game launched. The update will be available for download on the 11th October. Of course the real bonus of all of this new content is the fact that it’s all absolutely free!

Here’s the rundown on what you can expect to see in the update.

Firstly all ‘standard’ cars will now feature an interior view, the level of detail will vary from car to car, but now for the first time you will be able to literally get behind the wheel of all the cars in the game.

GT5 winner Jason Birt with DC

Hello Everyone,

This Monday there were nervous, sweaty fingers aplenty poised on any manner of gaming peripherals…the reason? A special Gran Turismo 5 driving event that could possibly be the biggest ever race.

At precisely 15.20 BST on Monday, over 7500 Gran Turismo gamers lined up on a virtual starting grid in a unique 3-way simultaneous race that saw F1 legend David Coulthard put his driving reputation on the line in a real versus virtual driving battle quite unlike any other.

Coulthard’s real-life challenge on the Dunsfold circuit, better known as the Top Gear Test Track, was beamed live via internet to thousands, he was joined at the track by F1 race commentator Martin Brundle who presented the live race action.

Following two action-packed days at the Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria (yes apparently it is the place where Steven’s name originated) we have our winner and proud owner of a brand new SLS AMG. Marco Calvo from Spain might well consider himself to be the most fortunate twenty something alive.

The 24 year-old Spanish student emerged as a deserved winner from amongst the ranks of the 15 Gran Turismo gamers who qualified for the Austrian grand finale by winning through the B-Spec-based competition within the GT5 Signature Edition game.

Over the course of two days the contestants faced a combination of GT5 and real-life, track-based tests of nerve and driving skill designed to establish who should take home the extraordinary prize of an SLS AMG.

Day one consisted of a GT5 time trial which saw the Italian finalist Matteo pull off a set of stunning, faultless drives to finish the first day at the top of the leaderboard. Unfortunately for him, his challenge unfolded in the latter stages of day two when we decamped to the famous Red Bull Ring for a series of real-life driving tests in a stunning fleet of SLS AMG vehicles.

Under the watchful eye of ex-F1 star David Coulthard who joined us at the track to assist in the technical supervision of proceedings, the finalists were eventually whittled down to four.

A Day 1 (3)

Finally during a series of high adrenaline, head-to-head drag races, a seemingly nerveless Marco managed to out-accelerate and out-brake all other competitors to climb from his car at the end of the final drag race against Guy Foster, the Irish contestant – the owner of the Stuttgart supercar.

So the journey is now complete for our Signature Edition owners and we congratulate Marco on his fantastic achievement, though one might guess that he may well be inundated with requests for lifts for some time to come!
