A big hello to all PlayStation Blog readers! Here at Team17 we are proud to announce that our classic survival-horror game, Alien Breed, is coming to PS3 and PS Vita.

Alien Breed is due for release on Wednesday 6th February via PlayStation Store for £6.49/€7.99, with an awesome 20% launch discount available for PlayStation Plus members! Last year we celebrated the 21st anniversary of Alien Breed and brought the title to PlayStation Mobile. With the PS3 and PS Vita version we wanted to introduce more cool features, such as the ability for players to team up on either system via cross-platform play.

There is also ad-hoc and online co-op multiplayer for PS Vita and local and online co-op multiplayer for PS3. We’ve also got Cross-Platform Continuation Play in the mix too, allowing players to carry on their PS3 save game progress on their PS Vita and vice versa.

Hi everyone! “Worms™ Ultimate Mayhem” is being released this week on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 3. In contrast to the Worms games released on PSN to date, it is a 3D version of the crazy turn-based strategy series; a “best of” compilation of the very best bits of Worms 3D and Worms 4: Mayhem. The game is crammed full with surreal weaponry, wacky customization options, tons of destructive single-player content and multiplayer options, trophies, and some really cool improvements to the original games, with enhancements and updates to the camera, the graphics, the audio and the aiming especially. Alien Breed 2: Assault Hits PSN On Wednesday With Short, Controlled Bursts

With Alien Breed 2: Assault launching on the PlayStation Store on Wednesday, December 8th, we’d like to share a handy list of things you may not know about the game. If you have questions, ask away in the comments below.

  1. It’s the direct follow-up to the PSN game Alien Breed: Impact. What’s more, it’s the middle entry in a trilogy of downloadable PS3 titles that reinvent Alien Breed, a series which has roots dating back to 1991. The game is an action-packed top-down science fiction shooter where you must conserve ammo, scavenge for gear, and upgrade your arsenal to survive against a vast alien threat.
  2. We’ve added a new Survivor mode. This can be played in single-player or in two-player co-op (online or local), and you must resist endless waves of intense alien horde attacks in specifically designed arena environments. Get competitive and compete on the Survivor leader-boards!
  • Survivor Mode hints and tips: Before playing Survivor, take some time in the single-player mode to learn the layout of the map. It’s also crucial to keep moving, as you’ll be overrun by aliens quickly if you stay still. Good communication is the key to survival – decide who will focus on what weapons and try to catch the aliens in a crossfire. If you are both very low on health, a “tactical death” may work in your teams’ best interest, especially if you manage to time it between alien waves.

Alien Breed 2: Assault for PS3 (PSN)

  1. The game’s exhilarating new set pieces will get your pulse racing. Fight the breed through the new vertical climb section and teach those pesky aliens a lesson with the destructive mounted gun. It’s an absolute blast!
  2. The breed have multiplied. Translation: there are new enemies to conquer, amongst them the Webber alien and dramatic new boss battles, although I can’t say much as I don’t want to spoil the surprise.
  3. You’ll need devastating new firepower. Luckily you’ll be able to arm yourself with some awesome new weaponry such as the Hyper Blaster, a highly destructive chain-gun, and the Rocket Launcher, with which you can simply blow the horde away!

  1. Theodore Conrad returns. In the single-player game, you’ll take control of Chief Engineer Conrad as he battles his way through the mysterious spacecraft Leopold – the very same ship that is responsible for the alien menace currently terrorizing Conrad’s own vessel! In this episode, you’ll travel deeper into the dark heart of the alien ship. It’s a pretty unpleasant place to be.
  2. Two-player co-op play also returns. In addition to the new two-player co-op Survivor mode, there is also a two-player co-operative play mode (online or local) in which players must work together to defeat the alien horde. Co-op takes place across specially customised assault maps for two players, with a separate narrative that crosses over with the single-player experience.
  3. Yes, there’s a Platinum Trophy. For those PSN ‘Trophy hunters’ amongst you, there are actually 31 Trophies available within this game – including a Platinum trophy!
  4. It’s easy on the wallet. “Alien Breed 2: Assault” will be available at a great new price – €8.99/£7.19.
  5. There’s more to come. If you survive the assault, look for Alien Breed 3: Descent to finish the trilogy early next year!

Alien Breed 2: Assault for the PS3 hits the PlayStation Store on Wednesday, December 8th for €8.99/£7.19.

Customisation In Worms: Battle Islands

A couple of weeks ago, we introduced the latest game in our long-running Worms series, Worms: Battle Islands on PSP. In that post we gave an overview of the game and introduced some of the single-player and multiplayer modes included. This time, we want to show you some of the customisation options that will make Worms: Battle Islands the most personal title in the series.

Introducing Worms: Battle Islands

Customisation

The ability for players to customise their team of worms has always been a mainstay feature of the series and one that I think people who play the game get a lot of enjoyment from. For Worms: Battle Islands, we put a lot of effort into increasing the player’s options for how they customise their team. There are new customisation categories such as masks and backpacks, and over a hundred different items with which the player can leave their personal mark. It’s possibly the highest degree of customisation we’ve ever had in a Worms game, and it’s certainly the most customisable of the 2D games.

Landscape editor

To act as a nice aside to the action and to allow the player to demonstrate their creative side, we’ve included also two editors: the Landscape Editor and the Weapon Factory. With the Landscape Editor the player can draw their own maps with a number of easy to use paint package like tools, texture them using the game’s environment textures and place items such as Sentry Guns and Land Mines. These maps can then be used for multiplayer matches.

Weapon Factory

In the Weapon Factory the player can create their own weapons. When you first visit the Weapon Factory you’ll find your options limited, but you can unlock more potential by collecting the blueprints scattered throughout the Campaign missions. The more blueprints there are in the player’s possession, the more varied the weapons that they’re able to create. (A particularly sneaky feature of Tactics Mode is the ability to steal an opponent’s custom weapon and use it against them in a subsequent round!)

We hope you’re looking forward to getting your hands around Worms: Battle Islands and I’ll be happy to respond to any questions you have in the comments.
