The Friday Debate Shameless Self Promotion

Countries: , , , ,

Prize_Crown

Bit of a change of tack this week. Earlier today, Hansel and Gretelbot launched in LittleBigPlanet 2. It’s a full game that sets the benchmark for what’s possible when the community points its combined genius-stick in the same direction.

I’ve noticed that, every time we post something on LBP, many of you comment with lbp.me links to your creations to try and drum up some more plays and earn those ego-warming hearts. This blog post is a free forum for you to do exactly that.

However, nobody is going to be tantalised by a page full of links, so tell us what your level is, why you’re so proud of it and why it’s worthy of a big fat smacker from us.

Ross McGrath and I are going to play through as many of your levels as we can this weekend and I’ll tweet out links to any that really impress us via @PlayStationEU, which should help you on the way to those community trophies and pins.

The Friday Debate – Star Xrossed Lovers

Countries: , , , ,

Valentine_Blog

For most people older than 14, Valentine’s Day isn’t a huge deal. That being said, any excuse to spend time with loved ones and friends is a good thing. We’re quite an international bunch here, so how is February 14 celebrated in your country?

The big question is:

Have fun and take care of each other.

The Friday Debate – Be There or Foursquare

Recently, I finally joined the antisocial revolution and got myself a smartphone to stare at so that I don’t have to speak to my friends. I also downloaded Foursquare (along with the official PlayStation app, of course) and have been checking in more often than a librarian.

I particularly like the Badges and the little cryptic clues that you have to figure out to find them. They’re a bit like Trophies, and as Wikipedia tells me that Foursquare will allow users to create custom Badges at some stage in the future, I thought we could join forces and start planning some PlayStation-specific examples.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

Drake, looking for the ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ Badge.

Here’s the idea: think of a real world location that also appears in a video game and come up with a witty name for the badge and a clue to guide people to it. Here’s are some examples. Can you guess what they are?

Doin’ the Chimeran Walk. Oi! – This London Borough towers above the rest in Resistance: Fall of Man.

That Belongs in a Museum – Where Nathan Drake ‘borrowed’ Marco Polo’s oil lamp.

Real Nightlife Simulator – Where the Gran Turismo series first went urban with the headlights on.

Add them into the comments – it’s up to you whether you tell us the answers or leave us to figure them out; I’ll check in over the weekend and any add more that I think of. Of course, you could use fictional locations if you’re really stuck, but you get bonus points if you keep it real.

The Friday Debate – Happy Trails

Hands down, my blog highlight of the week was the History of Videogames LittleBigPlanet 2 trailer that we debuted on here earlier today. I’d heard a few weeks ago that there was something a bit special planned, and the end result has left me clockwatching for the rest of the afternoon and itching to go home and play the Mediterranean Street Racing level. Oh wait. I have a PS3 on my desk – I totally forgot about that.

Anyway, before I digress too far, this week’s topic up for discussion is around trailers – what makes a good one and can you suggest any notable examples?

That’s it! I’ll leave it with you as I have to… go to a meeting… or something…

The Friday Debate – Boxing Clever

Back in those balmy school holidays when the Internet was the inside lining of our swimming shorts, the humble box was a crucial part of the game experience.

It was often what convinced us to part with our pocket money, gleaming there on the shop shelf. It stopped our discs getting scratched and allowed us to alphabetise them neatly in a bookcase, and a dusty copy of Jimmy White’s Cueball 2 was once an excellent place to hide cash.

Now that the convenience of digital content means we are downloading our games and other entertainment more, do you worry for the box and manual? Or are there game boxes that really stick in your mind?

Let us know in the comments and have great weekends, if we don’t speak before.
