Making Of: The Last Of Us Announcement Trailer

Countries: , , , ,

In December we announced The Last of Us during the 2011 Spike VGA Awards. The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven tale about a modern plague decimating mankind. Well prior to our announcement we had been hard at work on a trailer perfectly crafted to set the tone and (hopefully) get your blood pumping with excitement when we made our announcement. If you haven’t seen that trailer yet be sure to check it out here:

Today we’re sharing a deeper look into that trailer. We were hard at work on the announcement trailer for quite awhile and a lot of design went into making certain every frame contained some nugget of information you could take away about the game itself. Taken more than a year ago and over the course of a few days of planning, prep, and acting what you see here is a nice glimpse into some of the behind the screens work that went into making that trailer possible. Comprised of shots we decided to keep in the trailer, here’s the motion capture footage of our two main The Last of Us protagonists doing their thing in our Culver City, CA motion capture studio:

Happy Holidays From Naughty Dog!

Countries: , , , ,

Before 2012 rushes upon us we wanted to take a moment to say Happy Holidays from everyone here at the Naughty Dog kennel!

2012 newyearcard_F_01

As you can see from our holiday card we’ve welcomed Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us into our cast of characters to play among with Drake, Sully, Elena, Chloe, and our UNCHARTED personalities. The year has brought about tremendous change as Naughty Dog has grown into a two team studio for the first time in our 17 year history. This shift is terrifically exciting as it signals an expanded talent pool in which we can share ideas, know-how, and techniques. As future projects evolve, we will continue to strive to maintain our high Naughty Dog standards and always endeavor to do whatever it takes to raise the bar for gaming.

Countries: , , , ,

Unless you’ve been far, far away from the internet this weekend, you should already know that the VGAs afforded us our very first look at Naughty Dog‘s The Last of Us. If you haven’t, watch the trailer now! Then come back.

As soon as Zachary Levi walked off stage and the lights came up (I think the credits were still rolling!) we grabbed Naughty Dog co-presidents Christophe Balestra and Evan Wells to ask them about their next title.

You surely haven’t heard the last of The Last of Us; stay tuned to the PlayStation.Blog for more.

The Last Of Us Unveiled At VGAs

Countries: , , , ,

Some of you may have read reports of a new PS3 exclusive called The Last of Us set to be revealed at the Spike TV 2011 Video Game Award Show (VGAs). We are now happy to reveal that The Last of Us is being developed by Naughty Dog Inc., creators of such acclaimed game series as Uncharted, Jak and Daxter and Crash Bandicoot.

The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven story about a population decimated by a modern plague. Abandoned cities are being reclaimed by nature and the remaining survivors are killing each other for food, weapons and whatever they can get their hands on. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave, young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive their journey across what remains of the United States.

“We are excited to finally unveil The Last of Us, a project the team has been working hard on for some time,” said Evan Wells, co president of Naughty Dog Inc. “Naughty Dog’s mission is to change the way people experience videogames. We are confident The Last of Us will take a leap forward in cinematic gaming and storytelling, providing gamers with an experience unlike anything else in the industry.”

We hope this teaser trailer has whetted your appetite and, as always, PlayStation.Blog will be the first place to hear about The Last of Us, this exciting new title from some of the industry’s most talented game designers.
