The Weekend Debate: When You’re 64

Countries: , , , ,

DSC02287

Digging weeds, mending fuses and getting home at quarter to three are all standard activities for your average 64 year old, but what about gaming?

Not many of us are used to hearing our grandparents brag about their 10:1 K/D ratio or the time they “totally owned” on SSX; is this because they didn’t grow up with the medium or is gaming simply one of those things we grow out of with age. This week’s question:

Will you still be playing games when you’re 64 and what will you be playing?

Will you be rattling a cane, saying they don’t make ‘em like they used to, before all those synaptic implants and haptic holoshperes, or will you always be ahead of the curve? Come to think of it, will I still be covering it all here on PlayStation.Blog?!

There no voucher codes this week so it’s just for fun; look out for something special next week, which happens to be the fifth anniversary of PS3 launching in Europe…

The Weekend Debate – Challenge Gallagher

Countries:

Any Brits of a certain age may remember a television programme where a lady built youth clubs armed only with community spirit, tracksuits and a helicopter. Around this time last year, I took on a challenge of my own and went in pursuit of my first (and, thus far, only) Platinum Trophy – Yakuza 4.

40 game hours later and largely thanks to the Essence of Headbashing, I got it.

PlayStation.Blog Recap 30th July

Now that a year has passed, I feel it’s time for me to take on a 2012 gaming challenge and I’d like your suggestions as to what it should be.

Just one rule: no more Platinum Trophies. I’ve nothing against them, of course, and I’m not far away from getting my second with Uncharted: Golden Abyss, but that was last year and now I’d like to explore something different. Maybe I could try and top a global leaderboard on MotorStorm RC, create a LittleBigPlanet level that gets 1000 plays or get a red card in every football game ever made. Hopefully you guys will have some creative suggestions.

Let me know your ideas and together we can make my 2012 a year to regret remember.

The Weekend Debate: Caption This!

Countries: , , , ,

In a break from the usual Weekend Debate topics, this week I’d like hear everyone’s humorous captions to the image below. It’s from upcoming PSN game Tokyo Jungle and is my early nomination for screenshot of the year.

The 15 best comments as decided by an independent judge will receive a voucher code for the excellent Worms: Ultimate Mayhem, courtesy of Team 17.

Codes will be sent out early next week via private message at http://community.eu.playstation.com.

The Weekend Debate: At Home VS Not At Home

Countries:

Earlier today we posted the latest episode of Inside PS Vita that shows some of the ways that PS Vita and PS3 interact. Such breakthroughs as playing the exact same game on a home console and portable, and enabling players to compete in the same arena whether they’re in their bedrooms or in the park, are closing the gaps between what we traditionally expect in a home game experience and a portable one. Maybe you disagree with me entirely – that’s where the Weekend Debate comes in.

Whenever I’m in an interview about PlayStation Vita I find myself asking the subject the same question: what’s the difference between a perfect home console game and a perfect portable one? None has given a gold-plated answer yet so I thought I’d open it up to the community. This week’s debate is:

Is there any difference between a game best suited to a home console and one best fitting a portable, or is the whole gaming world too diverse to try and make a distinction?

The Weekend Debate: Caption This

Countries:

For a bit of a change, this week’s debate is a caption-off. Rather than discuss a topic, I’d like you come up with a funny caption for the image below. Seeing as the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is out this week, here’s a picture of Snake chilling with a monkey. Get captioning!

I don’t have any spare voucher codes to give away this week so this is just for kicks and the chance for you razor wit to be admired by the PS community. Enjoy!
