Christmas is coming fast; luckily we have two new Wonderbook titles ready for release this week, in good time for Santa to grab some awesome stocking fillers!
Wonderbook: Book of Potions, due out 15th November, is an amazing new experience created in collaboration with Pottermore from J.K. Rowling. Last year we explored the Hogwarts library in Book of Spells; this year’s Book of Potions is set in the Hogwarts Potions dungeon. Here, students can learn the fine art of potion-brewing with some unexpected and exciting consequences.
Hi everyone. After finishing Wonderbook: Book of Spells last year – the first PottermoreTM title we created for Wonderbook – and being totally absorbed in the world of Harry PotterTM there still seemed to be a wealth of experiences left to explore within the Restricted Section of the HogwartsTM library. So we are really happy to be bringing Wonderbook: Book of Potions to all you budding young witches and wizards this November.
Working again with Pottermore and J.K. Rowling, we’ve been able to explore the magical subject of Potions. From the outset we really wanted to capture the fun, mess and chaos found in science kits, while also remaining truly authentic to the world of Harry Potter – but unlike a science kit, there’s no cleaning up required!
A brand new character
I was really excited when J.K. Rowling decided to create a brand new character especially for Book of Potions. Zygmunt Budge, one of the most accomplished Potioneers ever known, was an eccentric, unstable and vengeful wizard who left Hogwarts at the age of 14 as an act of protest. After leaving Hogwarts he lived alone on the remote Hebridean island of Hermetray, where he conducted potion experiments and wrote the Book of Potions.
We had lots of fun bringing his character to life through a number of J.K. Rowling’s delightful stories.
At last! Wonderbook: Book of Spells went on sale around the world last month. It’s great to see lots of people have been studying hard to master spells and put their skills to the test.
To celebrate the release, and complete the series, our fourth and final ‘Making of’ video is here. Focusing on a large and significant part of the creative process – setting the game to music – our team at London Studio set about explaining the project they started working on over a year ago.
Alastair, Joe and Jim wrote the score from scratch, and then set about weaving the music and sound into the gameplay in one of the studio’s most complex audio projects to date. The live orchestral recording at Air Studios was the highlight of the development process for many, and we are pleased to be able to bring you a piece of the action here.
So, sit back and enjoy the making of the soundtrack to the Book of Spells…
The team at SCE London Studios worked hard to conjure up a truly amazing experience using the latest in augmented reality technology. Starting today, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in the world of Harry Potter and begin learning the art of spell-casting while using your PlayStation Move motion controller as your magic wand.
The book features new and original writing from J.K. Rowling, and will allow you to learn about the histories of some of the well-known spells from the Harry Potter series, as well as other interesting insights. (more…)
We are nearly a month from launch now – you can mostly tell that from the mix of excitement and exhaustion in our offices… but above all we cannot wait to bring this product to households from mid-November.
Of course, the book itself is from the world of Harry Potter – and is the result of our first creative collaboration with J.K. Rowling. Book of Spells is a spellbook that teaches a student wizard over 20 spells, including Lumos and Wingardium Leviosa. However, with this book you get much more than just that. (more…)
