PlayStation 3 Firmware (v3.10) Update Preview

Hi Guys,

I’m James and I’m really pleased today to finally be able to share with you more information on the Facebook functionality which will soon be available on your PlayStation 3.

Hope you enjoy the video and I’ll speak to you tomorrow morning to feedback on your comments.

– James

Hi everyone, here’s an early peek at PlayStation 3 (PS3) firmware update (v3.10). The latest update incorporates Facebook into the PS3 experience. By linking your PlayStation Network account to your Facebook account, you will have the option for the PS3 to automatically update your Facebook News Feed with Trophy and PlayStation Store activity. This update also enables developers to set specific criteria in their titles to publish additional game information to your News Feed. You can then check out your updates, and those of your friends, on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media favorites through the PS3’s built-in web browser.

This is just the beginning of our integration with Facebook and we are looking forward to adding new features enhancing the experience in future updates.

Additional highlights from update 3.10 include:

  • The Photo category on the XMB has been revamped to make it easier to see more of your photos stored on the PS3.
  • The PSN Friends List has been modified based on feedback we received after update 3.00. Additionally, you can now choose a color for your PSN ID on the XMB.

I just want to clarify a comment I made to this post yesterday about Cross Game Voice Chat, which seems to have caused some confusion. I can’t confirm if or when Cross Game Voice Chat is coming, but as I said, when I do have some information to share with you, I’ll let you know.

Did you enjoy this?

Too bad I gave up on social networking years ago when I realised it wasn’t productive to my social life at all.

As for the pictures, I’m happy to see I’ll be able to browse my Hentai easier, now. Cheers.

Yay that’s awesome!

Argh i so nearly got my first first post! 😀

Some nice changes anyway, still not so sure about the friends thing but a crazy rainbow is better than ugly grey boxes.

I kind of prefered the consistency that we had to begin with, an option to revert back would be nice.

JonnyTyson 17 November, 2009 @ 2:21 am   4

Now all my Facebook friends will know how much of a gaming nerd I am, hahah. Really nice update though! Would be nicer with new avatars too, hint hint. 😉

Awesome news. Does this mean sites like will be able to track gameplay stats like play time etc now?

I love facebook and this functionality is gonna rock, thanks Sony!

VitalogyPJ 17 November, 2009 @ 2:23 am   7

Cool althought I don’t use facebook, twiter, hi5 or anything like that but hey, there’s laways a lot of guys out there using it so, nice update.

Nice new functionality, and I’m glad about the colours.

Hopefully though, there is a little more to the update. Cross Game chat, as much as you guys want us to shut up about it, it is still quite simply, one of the most requested features.

Sides that, great 🙂

Awesome. I constantly use Facebook. Next add an integrated Facebook app that we can also access in game through the XMB, allowing us to chat, post, add photos, videos, etc and the ability to find friends through Facebook with PSN ID’s. In the future maybe add support for recorded in game footage to also be added to Facebook. I know you can access it through the PS3 web browser but its sluggishly slow and painful.

Just watched it properly without rushing to gain 3rd post ¬¬ 🙂

The friends thing doesn’t look so bad, definatly a big improvement from before!
Nice to see you made them more transparent too.

CaptnSpaulding 17 November, 2009 @ 2:30 am   11

Will it update what game we’re currently playing like on the friends list so that friends can see we’re on a game they would like to join perhaps? Great free advertising for games too!! Would love this feature more than just store purchases updates 🙂

looks great, can we have something in the music bar like what the photo bar will have????

CaptnSpaulding 17 November, 2009 @ 2:32 am   13

#9, facebook chat would be awesome!!!!

I really want all my family and non gamer friends on facebook knowing what i’m doing on my PS3, what a pointless update!

Friends list is good tho..

Also, when can we expect premium avatars? I’m sick of this cow.

Yeah premium avatars please! They’re all kinda a bit bland now.

FACEBOOK ,PHOTO IMPROVEMENTS (tet again lmao ,,good to see sony still not bothering their arse to listen to feedback …. in depth profiles , categorised folders for films and music , music visualisation choices , CROSS GAME CHAT . yet lets get facebook in there coz 360 has it . efffin pathetic , they also have CROSS GAME CHAT BTW bt dnt see u bringing that out lol ohh right coz u cant

ghamdikh1 17 November, 2009 @ 2:49 am   18

ps3 is the best.

Great update! When I first heard the rumours about facebook, I thought it was an app that we could manually do things, and I thought that seemed pointless as I have my computer next to me. But this automated thing is just awesome. I’ll learn to not judge to much by rumors from now on:p I usually sync trophies the second I get a new trophy, but I’ll start doing it after each gamingsession in stead now.

Would love it if you could add a similar thing for Twitter as well.

And thanks for the photo and friendslist update as well.

Kanedas_Bike 17 November, 2009 @ 2:49 am   20

All interesting additions. What about giving us the option to remove the XMB if we desire?

Ivan_Krazy 17 November, 2009 @ 2:51 am   21

Well Done… I like it 😀
Love you Sony.. but there are still so many features missing on the PS3! 🙁

    James Thorpe 17 November, 2009 @ 9:50 am

Thanks Krazy and don’t worry, the guys in Japan are working hard on loads more improvements and as soon as we can get them to you, we will

pat_boy2008 17 November, 2009 @ 3:03 am   22

When is this coming? I know you said soon, but I’ve seen some sites say this Thursday. Is that true or did they just make that up?

TOMMO121081 17 November, 2009 @ 3:10 am   23

hate to dis everybody’s hard work but the guy talks about listening to feedback…seriously? did this not gall anybody else? as a community we have left SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much feed back and the areas addressed here are so far down the list of priorities that they’re basically pointless. can i upload photos from my HDD to facebook?
personally i’m never going to update any of the things demoed there, but i’d like to upload my photos to facebook. in fact i’d like to upload photos to other sites as well but the crappy browser won’t let me.
FFS stop trying to wow us with pointless features.

TOMMO121081 17 November, 2009 @ 3:11 am   24

PS. did anybody notice how he went to the demos section on the store? listen to the feedback my A-hole lol

craigiversen 17 November, 2009 @ 3:12 am   25

Looks all good, but a few things that I’d also like.

1. Being able to make video playlists, for music videos.

2. Custom avatars, or at least a wider variety or purchasable ones to choose from.

3. Sony to really stick it to developers on the ridiculously low number of games that they choose to integrate features to. This facebook thing will go nowhere if it’s supported as flimsily as Custom Soundtracks.

4. Being able to exit videos while they are playing, like you used to be able to, so you could choose something else. When I have friends around for drinks and put on music vids, the dead air between songs is pathetic.

avatars were a feature for 3.0 . yet 3.10 is just abt out and still no new avatars lmao sony do u relise this makes u look pathetic

Friends list looks good but the Facebook integration? *doh*..

Ah well, I’m sure it’s ok way to waste time when there are no new games, Home is bugging and lot´s of other content don’t arrive in time.

PS: When do you fix the PAIN DL at PSN Store? At the moment it does not include the bowling at all.. Feel kinda ripped of, since the game itself is weak without all the paid add-ons.

PLEASE make this an optional update. Not everybody uses Facebook (I make a point of refusing to go near it), and the other updates are nice to have but not necessary.

If the update adds something that it actually useful for gaming purposes, or core PSN functionality, only then should it be compulsary.

    James Thorpe 17 November, 2009 @ 9:57 am

The facebook integration isn’t compulsory nzgeek. As mentioned in the video you have to go into account management and turn the features on for them to work.

any1 think he will answer questions abt why features we actually want are always left out lol ………….NO

    James Thorpe 17 November, 2009 @ 10:07 am

haha, your right it is a no but not because I don’t want to or we love to keep things from you guys but because the ‘powers that be’ control this information and we just give it to you guys as best we can and as soon as we can. Sorry

CloudStorm87 17 November, 2009 @ 3:44 am   31

Although I will probably not be using the Facebook functionality to post information about my gaming activities to my profile as most of my real life friends aren’t gamers (or at least not as hardcore as me), I still think integration of PSN with social networks is a great idea and a step in the right direction.

Personally I use Twitter to keep in touch with gamers that I know and I think Sony should be integrating PSN with Twitter next as would allow people to have status updates about their gaming activities without annoying their non-gamer friends on Facebook.

CloudStorm87 17 November, 2009 @ 3:44 am   32

I am a little disappointed to not see any photo album integration with Facebook. When I saw the leaked screenshots I though the new look of the photo album were actually albums from Facebook pulled directly into the XMB, which I think would be a really cool feature.

Well I’m glad to hear Mr. Lempel say that this is just the beginning, which gives me hope that more, better features will be added in the near future like the photo album example I mentioned.

That said, I’m still not happy that Sony still hasn’t added cross-gaming chat and a party system to the XMB yet. These are the two most requested features on XMB that I feel still gives XBL the edge. I can only hope I will live to see the day these features become available on the PS3.

edgefusion 17 November, 2009 @ 3:51 am   33

Why do these boxes around our friends list still exist? What is their actual function? They serve no purpose whatsoever other than to make the XMB look uglier. I could understand it if trophy information went in there but it doesn’t, maybe at some point it will but right now it’s just an ugly box and makes me wonder what the hell Sony are doing.

Fantastic update. I like it a lot.

My questions are:
-Is there going to be support for Twitter in the near future?
-Are the Facebook updates instant?
-In the video, there is a news feed on the top right corner. Is this also included in the update?

Kind regards,

GuttermouthSIN 17 November, 2009 @ 4:22 am   35

Finally, no more fugly grey boxes. Really like what you’ve done to the photo section, too.

soopastarr007 17 November, 2009 @ 4:22 am   36

I already have my profile flooded with useless information, the last thing i want is my profile flooded with my geeky gaming habits… (xxxxxx has just purchased flower!) that will go down well with my friends, i think not! I doubt my friends would want to see constant updates about me, every couple of minutes. Plus everytime i use web browser it crashes my system. The ugly boxes still exsist, the colour just makes it stick out more, and photo albums, i don’t know anybody who even bothers to upload pictures to their PS3.

oh yes an update…..woohoo….but oh wait, it has nothing that us gamers requested.

i do believe those ugly boxes around the friends list will be used for something, but if you are not going to use them now, why put them there, put them there when your going to do something with them!

and wheres the avators you said we will be getting 2 months ago?

Alot of people are asking for cross game chat and we need it, but i want in game music!!!

This is awesome!

Wyrmchaser 17 November, 2009 @ 5:07 am   39

Awesome update! I look forward to it!

damn. i thought you guys were gonna bring us something of value…
pointless update is pointless!

now why would i want to advertise games i’ve purchased on facebook, it seems like every update is about selling games and milking people to the max, let’s add a whole bunch of shortcuts to the PSN store on the XMB, and now let’s use our consumers to advertise our games from PSN on one of the most popular websites in the world, man am i glad this service is free because if i was paying for this service i bet we’d have the things we’ve been asking for 3 years done by now, yeah yeah it’s complicated, what ps3 can’t do complicated? i wish i knew that before i made the purchase, now i understand the 10 year life cycle bit, it’s gonna take that long to get things done

oberbapti 17 November, 2009 @ 5:13 am   42

Where are the smaller icons, that were promised?

Glitch321 17 November, 2009 @ 5:14 am   43

Why don’t they just give us a better browser? Then we can browse all the social network sites we want.

AshKorsair 17 November, 2009 @ 5:38 am   44

it doesnt matter what sony does for firmware update, people will always complain.
its in the nature of the beast.
i couldnt care less about facebook or the waste of technology and total crapfest that is twitter or other ‘social’ networks.
i want to play my music when i am browsing my xmb not only when i am in my music department. fix that sony
as for the friendslist, *shrug* i never had problems with it as most peeps seem to do.

@AshKorsair …. when you have started music playing, press PS button. It gets you on to your XMB and music is still playing.
Nice little update, obviously going to have little people complaining because you haven’t given them the world on a stick!
For people like me, with patience, can see things are being improved and can wait (and not sure how many people are waiting for things like avatars … how does that improve gaming etc.)

smokeypsd 17 November, 2009 @ 6:15 am   46

great update, a suggestion, it’d be great to be able to use the keyboard peripheral for music playing, so if I push S, it will browse automatically to S. My collection is getting quite large and it’d be great to not have to scroll.

ashkorsair – as above u can listen to your music whilst browsing xmb etc 1st play music then hit d ps button butterbing! hope this helps dude – i want ps2 full bc or sell some ps2 ports on store * waits *

Hi James,

I’m probably wasting my time, but tell me: Is cross-game voice/partychat coming somewhere soon?

I mean, it’s clear that you’re looking into it because a (misinformed?) Naughty Dog-developer said that it would be available in the NEXT firmware-update, but as we can see it’s STILL not there.

Didn’t the feature make it into 3.10, or did you drop the feature alltogether?

No worries though, we’ve been waiting for three years know. Another three months won’t hurt, I guess =( I would just like some clarification about this.

GER-Cloonix 17 November, 2009 @ 6:41 am   49

Twitter would make more sense for sharing trophy informations.

On Facebook it would be just Spam -.-

So username and password huh? doesnt facebook get logged on with ur email? you should change it before launch before you cause a fare bit of confusion

hana_fubuki 17 November, 2009 @ 6:44 am   51

I couldn’t agree more. Those who got the PS3 early on (at launch, in my case) can measure the progress Sony have made. The experience has improved consistently over the past 2.5 years.

I have no interest in Facebook personally, but a lot of people do. Why would anyone complain about additional, optional functionalities? Because they’re not made for “me, me, me”? Because of some strange need to focus on little things that do nothing for your gaming experience and that you’ll most likely stop caring about the second you get them?

And I must say: to see something that was touted as the Second Coming when it was announced for the 360 months ago arrive on the PS3 at the same time, almost hush-hush, with little fanfare, confirms my belief that the people working behind the scenes are focusing on the right things.
I like that they don’t put much emphasis on nice-but-not-crucial bonus stuff like Facebook integration. This tells me that, hopefully, Sony are focused on more important matters.

Yeah, things aren’t perfect. We’re all waiting for That One Feature that will finally bring eternal joy and bliss into our life, but in the words of the wise Kevin Butler: “Come on!”

Nice that you have improved the web browser! A big thumb up! The Photo visuals look great too! And it’s always nice with some color in the friendsbar! 😀

Hey whiners, the Facebook stuff is optional. Nobody is forcing you to use it. Stop whining!

O P T I O N A L !

When is there going to be Cross-Game voice chat? You can’t hide it forever.

Will this service be available to all PS3 users or East-Europeans will be left out like last time (What’s new)?

Ok, i’m only gunna say this once and once only, not voice myself any further on the subject as there have been countless posts (voicing) themselves over the months and years for this one little feature.
Playstation 3 NEEDS cross chatting.
This only little thing, is what i believe is lacking from this side of the fence and need urgent attention.
Everything else i believe you guys are making a tremendous effort, and ARE.
The cross chatting makes the player/chatter feel more connected to the “console” and to “other people”, whether it’d be just chatting with real mates just to save a phone call to even just organizing gaming sessions with them and some randoms etc.
The Invite system on some (alot) of games on the Playstation 3 is SHOCKING, but….
Having a cross chatting feature will void these little hassles/troubles because the feature will allow the player/s to still feel connected in their connecting of gaming.
You need to priorities the features better.
Cross chatting should’ve/should be, on top of your “To Do” list for which the basis of gaming is built for first. Gaming.
For whatever the reason, this hasn’t been done.
Get it done… (in the nicest tone possible :p)

balaenidae 17 November, 2009 @ 7:10 am   57

This is a great update, I’m just curious if this means there is an API which can be used by developers for other purposess (Such as a facebook application with a dedicated Playstaion Stream) or weither its more like installing facebook connect on PS3s?

At the moment it only lets us put in 21 characters but it looks wide enough to fit at least 42 characters.

People stop complaining, cross game chat is coming. Didn’t you see the post where the Naughty Dog dev leaked it by accident?

soopastarr007 17 November, 2009 @ 7:19 am   59

Eric Lempel said during a recent interview (in OPM, i believe) that cross game chat was being worked on. No doubt they are having trouble working around the patent that MS supposedly put on it.

marcindpol 17 November, 2009 @ 7:25 am   60

Psyvariar 17 November, 2009 @ 7:26 am   61

Offering a rainbow of colors for Friends List entries sounds like a nice little tweak, better than bland grey only.

Hopefully an increased range of XMB avatar options will be next. I think we need a greater selection of avatars to choose from.

What about integration to update our music informations?

Facebook said in french sounds like buttock-goat.

ringedingdong 17 November, 2009 @ 7:43 am   63

Where is the Cross-Game-Chat / Party-Chat function?

I don’t need Facebook. As someone said before: Twitter would have been the better choice. This is a gaming console, not a multimedia superstar, especially when all the features are only half cooked!

great update… NOT! I don’t want Facebook on my ps3, i don’t use it and never will. I use my PS3 for GAMEING. I want stuff on there where i can enhance my online gaming like cross game chat and invites etc. What i cant understand is you listen to people and you add Facebook and minimal colors to the friends list but WHERE ARE THE AVATARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You promised there on there way 5 months ago and I’m still waiting. Forget Facebook! Argh!

New update huh? uhuh,ok for the facebook,ok for the redesing of the Photo category but WHY add more features on the Friend List? Wannah add more features? Give the option to change the friend list to the old one (before 3.00)! That’s gonna be a mess with a different colour on every ID :S Just add an option when you click triangle on your ID then “Change Friend List’s Style” or just “Style” and then “Classic or Original”. I don’t want it now but in the future many of us will want it!

hobgoblin 17 November, 2009 @ 7:50 am   66

Another so-so update, nothing earth shattering. Good to see that 99% of the grey friends boxes are now going to disappear. Colour-wise it’s no biggie, would’ve preferred it if a) they wouldve enabled you to have a longer comment in your comment box, and b)a more in-depth profile of yourself instead of limiting it to 21 characters. Why not simply have your countries flag in top by your name, get rid of the psn id field (do we really need to see our name twice on one page??), push the languages field up one, and put them all on one line, then use the huge space below to write a better profile.

As for cross-game chat not being there (unless it hasn’t been mentioned yet), i’m not surprised. There must be a reason why we haven’t got it yet (god knows it’s mentioned by users ever update), but it would be nice to have an official word on it (ie “we are working on it, but …”) I personally wouldn’t use it, i only want it so that people stop complaining all the time that we still don’t have it.

Bahamut44-4 17 November, 2009 @ 7:53 am   67

The facebook thing looks cool, my g/f keeps pressuring me to get facebook (facecrack?) maybe this will be what tips the scales finally. 😛

However,(you knew it was coming) cross game voice chat and new avatars? Come on guys…

l_skynet_l 17 November, 2009 @ 7:54 am   68

Im shocked they havent added even more store icons! C’mon SCEE, 3 is not enough! We need more spam from the store clogging up the XMB!!

More seriously, maybe the time is right to fix some important stuff :

A Eventually add those 44 missing latin characters in PS3’s fonts
B Ability to select other languages in PSN profile (like Vietnamese for instance, but not only)
C scrobbling

MobileTone 17 November, 2009 @ 7:59 am   70

where’s the ability to choose the size of our icons/fonts that were supposed to be ‘fixed’ in this update?? why do we still have to put up with those ugly as sin boxes on our friends list??

they were the big issues with 3.0.

listening to consumer feedback my a–e.

Cmon Sony:

*Party Voice Cross Gaming Chat!!
*Custom Ingame Music Support for every PS3/PSN Game.

Ok Sony

The very first comment couldnt of put it better.

“I gave up on social networking years ago when I realised it wasn’t productive to my social life a all.”

Well said.

I cant help to think SCEE are almost more worried about casual gamers with there addiction on social networking and Showing off of photos no one really cares to much of

Please sony, think about me, the hardcore gamer, you can look at my trophies and see i buy gmes on the store, i buy all the new realses, Im a online vet, so why cant you give me and those LIKE me what we scream about???

Cross – Game – Chat

Wait a minute, does this mean I can’t see what my friends are playing anymore? Why did they remove that?

The coloured box on friends is still ugly to be honest. And no sign of changing the font/icons back to their old, smaller sizes?

Oh one more thing.

I must say thank you sony for removing those ugly gray box’s even if you didnt do it intirely.
It just proves your listening, Yet still parhly deaf, most of the time.

SCEE motto: “Lets take two steps forward, one step back”

Even though i welcome firmwares i do reckon we need one that will rock peoples world. but i have yet to seen one yet.

But like the motto suggests least were stepping in the right direction, almost.

Many people will be happy about FB being added, I’m not one but hey ho. 🙂 Started a FB account years ago and still can’t delete it. 🙁

Also, while I understand that this information is brought from the US, why must you always slap us in the face with a video showing a WORKING news ticker? Where’s SCEE’s version of this?

This update also adds POLISH language for users from POLAND 🙂

Carnivius_Prime 17 November, 2009 @ 8:25 am   78

Well that’s nice for people who still use facebook. I deactivated my profile some weeks ago cos I just got sick of it all. Prefer Twitter myself if I got a lil bit to say. Less crap on it too and Uncharted 2 posts to it

I just wish there was a way to only allow voice chat to friends on the PSN list for everything. I’m just sick of having to mute everyone each time I play or constantly pull out my PS Eye when I don’t want people to hear me in certain games that don’t seem to have all the necessary options (the otherwise fantastic Uncharted 2 is lacking here). I loathe voice chat and it’s by far and away my most hated feature of modern gaming.

Carnivius_Prime 17 November, 2009 @ 8:31 am   79

By the way has it been changed back so that the names of files other than the one you’re currently selected on do NOT fade into invisible. Can fade a lil bit ok for focus, but it’s a pain in the butt trying to manage all my songs and videos when the titles keep disappearing and I’m having to constantly move the d-pad up and down to keep them ‘fresh’ on screen.

I agree with poster #33 and #72

Why this (colored) boxes in the friendslist? It looked so much smoother without the boxes. It just doesn’t fit with the rest of the menu’s..

lol the same day as the “other guys” big update… 😀
I love how MS made a big deal out of the Facebook/Twitter update and you guys roll it out like it ain’t no thang.

Anyway must upadte both my systems today. You gotta love shiny new firmwares \o/

estevan1973 17 November, 2009 @ 8:47 am   82

Where is the cross game chat ????????????????????????????????

LaCosaNostra84 17 November, 2009 @ 8:49 am   83

Awesome. I’ve wanted some sort of FB integration – XBox users get an app on there for achievements but this is better as its an official update. Will FB show retrospective trophies? It would be awesome to be able to have your PSN “Gamercard” visible on there or a trophy list like on the PS site.

Next on my list is Skype and Sky – XBox users are relishing the fact they got Sky and we just got the iPlayer but I aint gonna complain – I love Sony n my PS3 to bits…I may need to hide my purchases on the PSN Store on FB however…the Mrs will flip if she sees how much I spend on there – dont want FB givin the jig up! lol

This looks great! Not everyone will use the Facebook feature but i sure will and the profile colouring looks great! I’m glad it got changed so soon!

great thanks

Ox-MiL-xO 17 November, 2009 @ 8:56 am   86

Thank you ! but “Where is Cross Game Tchat ?”

Ok Sony,
i like so mutch twitter,
but The Question is: “Where is Cross Game Chat?”

Thats the only want…
James do you hear?

when is this going live then?

3.01 to 3.10? Not much happening on the front end then?

Please Sony, provide cross game chat in WHATEVER form or method JUST to shut everybody up, both PS3 users and XBox users for gods sake!!!

toolfan2007 17 November, 2009 @ 9:12 am   92

This is pretty sweet!!!

So, let me get this straight…

After all the negative comments you received last time on breaking the consistency and sleekness of the PS3 XMB by resizing fonts and icons and adding pixie dust backgrounds and enormous useless grey boxes, you promptly decided that it would be a very good idea to ‘counter’ these complaints by making it even MORE inconsistent by having *other* people choose what *my* friendslist will look like?!

I am truly amazed.

LaCosaNostra84 17 November, 2009 @ 9:16 am   94

I read on another site that it goes live for Europe on Thursday…

JacktehKnife 17 November, 2009 @ 9:20 am   95

Son have been working on FB integration since before Microsoft, this has nothing to do with being competitive.

nice update btw.

FierceAngel 17 November, 2009 @ 9:22 am   96

It would be great to associate your facebook friends with PSN ID’s. I recently got a HTC Hero which intergrates all your friends social networking info, feed and pics into their single contact on my phone. Would be amazing to see something like this in my PSN friends list.

racedriving 17 November, 2009 @ 9:27 am   97

About the news ticker:

It’s enabled in the US and a lot of people wish it could be disabled. It’s always scrolling and a bit distracting.

So before deploying the ticker in the EU please implement an off switch.

Always nice with updates though I don’t care about FB…

What about:

– MKV support. (Even Samsungs TV’s with a DLNA server support it now…)
– Video playlists (Should be an easy thing to implement)
– UI font/icon size settings

Thanks for the update, the picture view looks really nice now, and I’m happy that you fixed the friendslist a bit.
Can you please add ISO standard time format?
As it is now it’s just wrong.
And please add a setting for camera invert X/Y per user so games can pull that info automaticly from the system so I don’t have go in and change it every time? Maybe some more stuff as well (brake/accelerate buttons, southpaw, subs on/off).

@racedriving you can turn it off in the system settings.
@Zaphloo mkv support. try ps3mediaserver (google)

-Custom “Party” Game Chat maybe Skype Support
-Better Notification Support (dont want to see if a friends goes offline)
-Custom Ingame Soundtrack for every Game

stormyuk 17 November, 2009 @ 9:35 am   101

Hmmm rather than Facebook would time not be best spent fixing bugs, like the official Sony bluetooth mic problem, that when paired in HQ mode mic volume control CAN NOT be changed from 3 in XMB, its fine in ear but not via TV speakers.

DarkFame 17 November, 2009 @ 9:37 am   102

What a great improvement on the friend list. 🙂

Andrefpvs 17 November, 2009 @ 9:38 am   103

-My feedback on the friends list-

…would be to show basic Trophy information on that currently-bland bar when you select a friend (could be on the right of the person’s nickname).

At least the Trophy level and percentage, and if your display is set to HD resolution, then show the respective amount of each type of Trophy (there should be space in HD).

This information could stream right after you sign in to PSN, so it would be a background job.

Would be amazing, I believe. Can you pass this on, James? 🙂

One more thing…

The colored boxes around friends… Are you sooo proud of that particular change that you could not remove them all together?

The PS3 interface was modern, aesthetic, clean and much appriciated before the 3.0 fw. With 3.0 you seemed hell-bent on screwing it up. What have happened, did you change lead UI designer or did he get a stroke?

Skookie30 17 November, 2009 @ 9:46 am   105

Im be starting FB Soon im not so bother about it as i got twitter as well

i like the transparent in the friend list, eric can have the following…….

-Cross chat

-last fm

* hang-on scratch that the last two comming soon & MGS1 this week on the store (Shameful plug) 😀

Redh3lix 17 November, 2009 @ 9:47 am   106

Still image for the video shows ticker providing a PS3 Netflix URL ….. that USA only I presume?

Whats up with the real important features? No one needs a wack facebook feature. For what? This is not essential. This is absolutely unimportant. No one needs facebook on a ps3. An if you add it, don’t call it 3.1. Better call it 3.02.

First make the PS3 a REAL next gen console and add the CROSS GAME VOICE CHAT!!!! This should be the priority.

LaCosaNostra84 17 November, 2009 @ 9:48 am   108

@fierceangel – yeah that would be nice, my blackberry does the same so would be cool to keep everyone nice and updated on the handset – fingers x’d that it happens if not straight away!

I would have liked more music visuals for the player as the ones we have suck and more avatars would be nice .As for Facebook app. ok if you use it.Game folders to split up demo’s from games and Clan links in the friends list …

Forgot to mention Ipod compatability (plug it in and all your stuff on the Ipod show and play’s)

THE_REGULATOR_88 17 November, 2009 @ 9:55 am   111

WTF still no cross game chat, sony u spent all ur time on the ability to change the colour of ur gamercard BORING
and on the photos BORING useless time wasting when u could be working on cross game chat and the facebook thing is a load of crap and anybody that says its good is lying and have no life, iv waited for 3 years for cross game chat to come to the ps3 and its still not here thats why 2day iv waited for 2 long for cross game chat so i will be purchasing a XBOX 360 cos sony face it XBOX online services [DELETED] on the ps3’s.
sony has took the [DELETED] what a wait for useless add ons
think about how many people like me that have lost interest in the ps3 cos of sony not give us what we want CROSS GAME CHAT its us who make the PSN live, WE SPEND THE MONEY!!
if u aint gonna give us the stuff we want, might aswell get a xbox cos private was out ages ago on the XBOX

@ADREVES: Thanks, I do use PS3mediaserver and it is great. Would just be much more convenient if the PS3 could support MKV natively.

I’m actually looking forward to this, not sure about my family that’ll be getting spammed on Facebook are, but I am. I’m glad you made the change to the Photo’s as well, which makes likfe much easier. Way to go 🙂

Ivan_Krazy 17 November, 2009 @ 10:05 am   114

@James Thorpe

Thanks for the reply.. its greatly appreciated!
Also, the photo navigation in the new firmware looks great and I hope the same could be done for the music. Because I have loads of music and navigation is very poor… Sony should integrate something like the iPod Touch/iPhone idea by alphabetical order.

Splutterbug 17 November, 2009 @ 10:09 am   115

It would be nice if this update fixed the mess of the last one and actually gave UK PS3 owners that have a refurb or free with a phone contract PS3 the iplayer shortcut in time for the video store which is supposedlly arriving in November as well

I remember there being some concept pics of how you guys could improve the PSN friendlist and overall presentation, some guy who posted the pics said he contacted PSN staff about it. I would love for that idea to become reality.

Also, a neat stepup from the ugly grey boxes but i gotta say… This isn’t what i expected. It’s been almost three months since v3.00, and in all that time the only change was the colour of the boxes. If you are in need of more resources, why don’t you hire some more people?
I expected a completely revamped friendlist, but oh well.

Sure Facebook integration is kinda good, but that doesn’t affect all the PSN community. If you created a guestbook integration in the PSN friendlist that would’ve been better.

So what i’m trying to say is, instead of adding extra somewhat-useless features you could improve on what’s already there an in need of support.

Please please please make it so that the list of movies/music/photos does not disapear after a few seconds! you have to constantly move if you want to read the list!!! PLEASE!

BOO to the facebook. i want to be able to remove it

I really think you should sort out the iPlayer with the BBC. Why isnt this an intergrated feature into the xmb instead of a crappy web link that takes ages to load, doesnt work properly with the bd remote and plays havok when you go to the xmb. Please fix it.

Hi, very cool stuff. Will there also be Twitter integration in the future?

The functionality I am waiting for the most is a podcast application. Works great on PSP, why not on PS3? I would love to watch podcasts on my bigscreen TV.

sony have lost it tbh . bad ideas after bad ideas

James, will the 3.10 update fix my EU 60gb refurb so i get the TV icon back and the iplayer link?

Facebook integration is ok but twitter would be better imo.

Cross game chat is more important than any of these new additions as currently in game VOIP on games like MW2, BF1943 & WipeoutHD are awful. I just want the video chat thing to allow headset users to leave the XMB chat room and start a game or the internet browser while still chatting.

Glad to see the grey boxes have been fixed and the colour scheme thing is ok. we still want much more detail though.

The photos layout looks better but we would like to see more music visualizations and MKV movie support too.

I would like better updates for Life With Playstation. If google are involved can we not have GOOGLE EARTH detail? It would be great if we could zoom on any city and learn more about geography. also pinpoint places of interest and even show friends locations maybe?

Also where is Qore for the UK?

Bladerunner_DK 17 November, 2009 @ 10:20 am   123

I like the improvements with the photos. We use that function a great deal. We have all our famely photos on a network drive, and slideshow them from time to time on the PS3. So these changes to the overview are quite good. It lookes like it will make it much easier for my kids to browse through them. The browser is still fairly slow. My 7yr old use it to play different flashgames, and they hardly perform – but it does work though. For me, the communication with friends during online play is an issue. I almost always turn it of ingame, if possible. It is very annoying to listen to 14 year old with their ipods turned up way to high, and if its a “great” day, they will share their singing skills as well. cross game chat please. 🙂 At least so I dont have to be reminded that I turn 35 in a month or so – Mel Gibbson quote is in order here “Im getting to old for this s***t” 🙂

RadioactiveMouse 17 November, 2009 @ 10:22 am   124

Nice aesthetic change with the friends list. I still would like to see more work on things such as the overall interface flow.

Whilst the XMB at the moment is works well, I think it would be great to have a box which can take feeds and sits above the theme. That way people could see the latest entry in Facebook and Twitter without having to open the browser every time. Just a thought 😉

Ivan_Krazy 17 November, 2009 @ 10:26 am   125

I SOOOOOOO agree with comment #40.
10 year life-cycle means we will be getting in-game music + in-game voice chat at that time. Sony is just hiring the wrong developers.

Please Sony do something good for your consumers and ACTUALLY do something about it! Because after every useless firmware you will be getting complaints right here. Please focus this on the next firmware! I appreciate it and please bring us the in-game music (no matter where we go on the PS3/exit a game) and in-game voice chat/voice messages!

VitalogyPJ 17 November, 2009 @ 10:29 am   126

One thing I love (not) about sony is the paradoxal words coming from their mouths, just feel me with this:

Ads » “it only does everything”

Ok, so if it does only everything:

– why is that so hard to make cross-game-chat working?
– Does the sony techs took their degree from a website in some weekend they had nothing else to do?
– Why is that so hard to make XMB hide when in idle?
– why is that so hard to integrate a music player that allows you to put it on in background?
– Why is that so hard to display information about what you are hearing/watching like it did with what your playing?

…and I could keep going on this but I thing I already made my point.

When is the Playstation Network going to be available for PS3 gamers in MOROCCO ?

We all want the same thing: CROSS-GAME-CHAT!!!

So please Sony, give it to us quickly!!! :);)

I think it’s a tidy little update, obviously it doesn’t have everything people want but it’s adding some funcionality that could be useful for some people and gives a platform to build on.

Working for a software company I have to point out, if Sony impliments every single feature that people wanted in one go you would likely have a system that no longer works. They need to ensure features are not going to break other things which is why they do these little ones from time to time, you don’t know what else they are adding in the background and they could be preparing the code for the functionality.

I would rather wait a little longer for a feature that works than have everything bugged, sure they are taking their time about it but I’m sure when it comes it will work fine.

I personally have no need for cross game chat, I use my head set to speak to people in the same game so we can organise so the lack of this feature doesn’t bother me. I would imagine I’m not the only one either.

waypoetic 17 November, 2009 @ 10:39 am   130

Someone said “1. Being able to make video playlists, for music videos.”

And i second that! When i throw parties at my place, i wan’t to run the musicvideos i have stored on my PS3 seamlessly. Now i have to pick up the controller every time i want to change video or just choose the next one. I got other things to do, like drink… orangejuice!

MustaffaLeek 17 November, 2009 @ 10:41 am   131

Err, am I the only one wondering where the cross game communication is?

Adding FaceBook integration is all very well, but we want cross game comms between friends, not gimmicks for a website half of us don’t use…

Come on Sony, you can do better than this!

james . when is this actually out take it 3.10 was just shown to try take steam out 360s big update today lol

Don’t use Facebook much but still it’s a good feature..
I would like to get Twitter to..

Wonder if FW3.10 is out 24th this month or Dec. 1st 😉

I don’t give a rats ass about facebook. Don’t use it, not registered, never will be.
What you should do, is change back the menus, now when you scroll trough your music or movies or whatever, the text disapears after 2 seconds! This is so stupid i do not have words..This makes it so you have to scroll like a psychotic madman on speed just to get a glance at what you have on your harddrive! What is the purpose of this? Can anybody enlighten me? Whoever is in charge of designing the xmb, say ‘youre fired’ to him, and have him committed.

why cant ps3 have a WATCHING A BLU RAY in the friend lists when u are doing so . why bump us offline . its stuff like this that totally makes psn fail as an online experience U DONT FEEL CONNECTED AT ALL . 360 tells u when u are watching a dvd , listening to music and on netflix all small touches that makes 360 a lot more connected and not lifeless and dull like psn and xmb

Can you choose to not publish an update on your facebook? Like I don’t want to spam my wall with PSN stuff.

nickjd331 17 November, 2009 @ 11:17 am   137

I was skeptical on facebook inegration, but it looks great (even if i won’t personally use it.) The new photo option is nice, although I hope there is a choice. I also like how you changed the friend list.

All in all, no voice chat, but still a nice update, I look forward to it.

What about integrating our HOME avatars onto our PSN ID?

ReNeGADe1991 17 November, 2009 @ 11:19 am   139

Cool guys!

Please add twitter that would be so cool.

Also can you add some how a way to make tweet deck work on the PS3? maybe allow me to download it etc, so I can see what all my friends are up to rather than jumping to my PS3 to find out Stephen fry is off another part or party that im never getting an invite for 😀

Also can our PSN store look as cool as the US one IE can we have a demo section it would help so much 🙂

Other wise I love the Eu blog keep it up!

Read all your replies and just think that Sony is doing this all wrong, were all being treated like children and being told soon or be patient. spending £249.99 – £299.99 is kinda not on dont you think?

As a PS3 user and have mine online 99% of the time i’d prefere my system to be its on social networking tool, with the following:

Shown BluRay Info while watching films or DVDs on Friendslist

Shown Music title etc on Friendslist

Shown Trophy info on those ugly gray boxes.

Show people a photo pasted on the ugly gray boxes instead of those nursery colours that hold childrens attention for more then a few minutes Lol.

The point im trying to make is this, why not make your own system the best that it can be in terms of social networking, making it FEEL like more of a COMMUNITY by starting with those features above

Ivan_Krazy 17 November, 2009 @ 11:21 am   141

Yeah and cant even stay logged on the PSN and you can’t even download while watching blu ray. Total GARBAGE!

@Skookie would be nice, cant understand that while Sony corp supports with music and now the Sony fantasy festival we get no PS3 integration, I much prefer to vidzone but have to say due to vidzone we may never see So for me:

* Official mic level XMB HQ fix.

* .mkv support.

* Cross game chat.

All come above Facebook, I actually use Facebook too!

PS3, it only does everything, right?

enebyberg43 17 November, 2009 @ 11:23 am   143

Great improvment on the Photo-section.
Should be something similar to the Music-section. I use the PS3 as a media server and have thousands of MP3’s. I takes forever to scroll down the list of artists.
A good thing would be to have the possibility to use R1/L1 and jumping down the alphabet (just like in SingStar).
After finding the right artist it should then show the artists albums and then songs.

Otherwise great product.

racedriving 17 November, 2009 @ 11:24 am   144

Then tell us where to switch the news ticker off.

If you look at the comments on the US blog I don’t think you can switch it off.

We Want
CROSS GAME VOICE CHAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wurm944999 17 November, 2009 @ 11:30 am   146

you love green just like me XD
I don’t care about facebook, but choose the colour for the profile it’s a good idea! I’ll choose the green XD

Noisepurge 17 November, 2009 @ 11:38 am   147

nice, EXCEPT the euro-store DOESNT HAVE a demo-section 😀 please add it, its painful to browse through “all games”

Dante_Zero 17 November, 2009 @ 11:42 am   148

now im usally one of the first to jump on here and complain where thingsd go abit south sort of speak.

but on in this instance its a step forward and round of applause for it. the biggest problem i face with PS3 it managing my time between social networking and gaming with PSN friends. the more intergration the better. if it helps sell another million PS3’s before the end of the year great because that means the comunity will be bigger and then there will be more people feeding back into the system which in turn will me quicker updates and implementation.

keep up the good work guys. credit where it’s due. for those that not bothered about facebook thing, it is optional and think of the bigger picture.

And what’s abaout the important add-ons???

Voice Chat… you know what is it??? Do you need help??? You don’t know how to make it real???

Facebook sucks!

Pure_Mind_Games 17 November, 2009 @ 11:43 am   150

I’d like to see the ability to delete trophies,

“post 15 – US blog – that way if your a trophy completionist and you can’t get the rest of the trophies you can delete it and all the trophies you have in that game.”

and would be great for people who rent game (like me) but they’re not that keen of it and either can’t or don’t wont to try to finish it.

DannyDeluxe86 17 November, 2009 @ 11:44 am   151

We don´t need Facebook on our PS3 !!! Sony please bring CROSS GAME VOICE CHAT !! THANKS

gamblor15 17 November, 2009 @ 11:47 am   152

Thanks for the update

I would love to see a restart game option added as part of one of these updates – Lets face it, sometimes you need to reload a game as you are not happy with your progress in a game (Fifa 10 for example)

This could be added to the xmb either by pressing triangle against the disk, or as a seperate icon

Thanks and I hope you consider my suggestion for future updates

Noisepurge 17 November, 2009 @ 11:48 am   153

what the hell are you on about 😀 just delete your save-data to “restart” or choose “new game” from the game´s menu. This is not an XMB issue 😀

OMG I love this update :O
The grey squares are getting “removed” so there wil be less nagging about that, and you allow us to change the colors ;D
At first I thought you’d be able to see all the colors, but this way makes it look neat and tidy 😛

WTH! My post was too long…. i must have been on a rant….oh well i’ll keep it for another day 😀
Ok, not a bad little update, like the photo viewing and great to see my Pm to MB about changing the friends list colours was passed on 😉

So, just to clarify, can we choose which information a game shares with facebook or if you choose the option to enable a game do you have to allow all the information to be shared.
I don’t mind sharing my trophy info, but i would be slow to share my purchase info.

I don’t have a facebook page….. but my doggy does 😀

kool-chris93 17 November, 2009 @ 11:56 am   156

I love this update.
I would never have thought to do that to the friends list, its brilliant. 🙂

The only thing I request for another update is to be able to see you’re own staus on your friends list, i think that would be cool 😛

I don’t use Facebook. Why would I want to share my trophies and purchase information on Facebook?

GhostViper 17 November, 2009 @ 12:01 pm   158

Why does people always complain when you guys bring out great stuff each time. Just because they don’t use facebook, the update is bad. Oh well.
I really like it.
The picture features will be great, have a lot of pictures on my ps3. And how many colors are there for friendslist?

Also the Polish language will be included in the new 3.10 firmware.

BIG_Boi_BOB 17 November, 2009 @ 12:02 pm   160

WHEN IS THE MOVIES ON DEMAND COMING? They keep saying November and we’re already half way through… any idea?

TheSabreman 17 November, 2009 @ 12:03 pm   161

Good to hear SCEE are listening to feedback.

It would be good to see:

Full customization of the xmb – icon sizes and simple tick boxes on which icons are displayed as since 3.0 there are too many unnecessary icons displayed.

Auto synch of trophies.

Demo section in the psn store, anyone that was not with PS3 at launch will have no idea what games have demo’s unless I go through each letter at a time, not very user friendly.

A fully compentent browser that doesnt crash and works fully like Firefox.

MKV compatibility.

Ultimately the more customizable the PS3 is the better feedback I think SCE will get.

James, when you are in account settings, you choose to have notifications of store purchases set to on, yet when u downloaded the demo, you were once again prompted to update or not, which is annoying/pointless.

can u pass this on to japan asap please

Ocean-Ripple 17 November, 2009 @ 12:09 pm   163

What a rubbish update… 🙁

Have no real interest in filling facebook with uninteresting and unpersonal trophy and store purchase info messages that would only mean that I have to go through another yes/no check-box every time I do something on the PS3. And can only imagine how annoying that box would be if it popped up mid game.

The friends list colour change is equally useless, suspect by the end of it’s going to look like a mess once everyone has chosen their own colour. Would much rather be able to set the colour for everyone on my PS3 to what I want. If they really wanted to improve the friends list this is what they should have done:

The only real improvement is the changes to the photo thumbnail viewing.

Phaseolus 17 November, 2009 @ 12:10 pm   164

Cool. Though I don’t use facebook too much this is big for a lot of people and the friends list is a great improvement..

sully1311 17 November, 2009 @ 12:11 pm   165

Will you be able to find friends on Facebook who also have a PSN account so you can add them?

BritishBlue 17 November, 2009 @ 12:14 pm   167

All right, I appreciate the friends list re-design, it was much needed. I don’t like Facebook, hundreds of people knowing what you’re doing at any given moment? Nah.

Other things that we really need are:-

1) Cross Game Chat
2) The avatars we were promised
3) Automatic synchronisation of trophies
4) Background patching
5) Improved web browser, the current one is slow and unstable
6) Custom soundtrack for all games
7) Improved download servers, downloading games/patches/system updates is currently quicker on a PC. This needs to change

Thank you for reading.

famHultqvist 17 November, 2009 @ 12:17 pm   168

The revised photo preview is a major improvement in my eyes.
Facebook is something I can live without.

However, I just added a QNAP NAS to my network and get various dlna errors (2104, lost connection, and others). Is this a known problem and is someone looking into it? This seems to be a problem on the PS3 from what I can understand. Lots of reports on this on the net.

What is important for PS3 is below:
– Cross-game chatting
– full customization of XMB including fonts size selection
– ingame music
– better browser (what about integrating Firefox or Opera?)
– e-mail reader
– psx and ps2 compatibility

Probably most of them will be included in the 5.00 firmware in 2012, but dreaming is not prohibited 😉

Pure_Mind_Games 17 November, 2009 @ 12:18 pm   170

I’d also like to see a sort function for my trophies I’d like it to stop putting my last game played at the top even though I’ve got the platinum for it, the one’s I haven’t I’m not so bothered about but I’d like to keep all my platinum’s together, preferably in the order achieved.

Luis_FFgamer 17 November, 2009 @ 12:20 pm   171

How about the release date? Soon or very soon? 😀

person678 17 November, 2009 @ 12:20 pm   172

Note to other commenters; Putting twenty ‘?’ question marks will not make anyone answer your question any faster.

onlineatron 17 November, 2009 @ 12:31 pm   173

Said the same thing on the US blog.

Imagine if you could scroll on over to the photo tab bring up a FACEBOOK folder and stream all your photos from facebook on your PS3! =D

Rude_Sparthan 17 November, 2009 @ 12:34 pm   174

..please… FIRST THINK TO OUR PSN CONTACT AND SHARING..!!!!!! dammit facebook…… ..for my gaming activity I want to share it with my PSN FRIENDS and contact.. …MORE INFO IN OUR PROFILES AND FRIENDS PROFILES.. more avatar.. cross game voice chat.. trophy autosynch… THERE’S A LOT OF FEATURES THAT WE NEED AS GAMERS first..

..hopeless… really I’m hopeless

this sounds great… I like what’s been done with the pictures…

If you could do something similar with music and videos then that would be even better… So clicking on an artist name from the usual list brings up a grid of album titles (represented either by their respective cover art, or by a place-holder) which brings up a third sub-menu for the songs in that particular album. Similarly with videos, getting a grid of video previews in the different categories would be most useful.

I replaced my original hard drive with a huge one, and it’s crammed with music so navigating it all is a real chore, so here’s hoping the new changes are carried out across-the-board.

Beyond that, include my usual pleas for automatic synchronisation of trophies, cross-game-chat, a universal screen adjustment tool (almost everyone I know suffers from parts of the display on the PS3 overflowing past the edge of the screen, so text on the internet browser and the edges of photos get cut off).

cheers guys.

It’s a free a update, who can complain. I think its great Sony are always providing free updates. Thanks

I can’t wait for the Video store, i think its tommorow. 🙂

WilliamBirkin 17 November, 2009 @ 12:34 pm   177

We are gamers.

patokite91 17 November, 2009 @ 12:39 pm   178

ok, this new things are cool (i love the facebook improvement)

but you guys from sony forget something…

the avatars!!!

3/4 of them are horrible

made a lot of new one, or at least leave us using personalized ones…

is something easy for the graphics 😉

CardcaptorStacey 17 November, 2009 @ 12:39 pm   179

I hope to see Twitter and integration in the near the future but I have an important matter I want to resolve first:

I don’t know if you are aware that many PS3 users have been experiencing problems with 3.0/3.1 “breaking” their Bluray drives. It’s been causing constant freezing during gameplay, making our PS3 completely unusable. I’m not going to rant about it here because you can read for yourself here: All I want to know is; has this been fixed on 3.10? Seriously, if it has, I’ll be a very happy bunny because it’s been causing me so bother. 🙁

yeah nice update

TheKillerSnowman 17 November, 2009 @ 12:57 pm   181

i love the update 🙂

Enzo-Amata 17 November, 2009 @ 12:57 pm   182

I hear you saying you’s have listened to feedback. What feedback? Certainly not the feedback of a adverage PSN users. I’ve never seen one thread of someone asking for Facebook integration on your forums and I’m on them everyday. Remind me again who your listening to?

Are you listening to Microsoft? Because they are getting Facebook, that sounds more like it. You should concern yourself with what your PSN users want and less with the competion.

If Sony hired me, I would bring the following to the PS3:

– Online LoveFilm service
– Sky Player
– Cross Game chat
– PS2 game store
– An organised European Playstation store – categories for Demos, PSN games, PS3 games
– A service like PULSE for the European audience
– PS3 game recording (Im sure the Cell can provide the power)
– Connect your PSP to the PS3 and play PSP games that way
– A firefox web browser
– playstation blog news feed
– A youtube icon under the TV category
– A youtube video upload- upload game videos recorded
– A game show that allows you to win prizes off the Playstation store
– Developer Areas – where games companies update information regarding upcoming games, videos etc.
– A software based flux capacitor that allows you to travel back in time, so that my style comes back into fashion.

Lol alright that last one way a little out of line. Anyway

Azulcity 17 November, 2009 @ 1:00 pm   184

I hope the update is optional, as I have no interest in any of it except perhaps the Photo part.

What i want to know is where is the Video store and Spanish TV channels (like Iplayer) that we were supposed to get in November?

I dont see any mention of them in this FW update.

chestolo 17 November, 2009 @ 1:04 pm   185

My first post on this blog, from Spain.
A great sadness to me yesterday envargo the blog read use that we arrived IN GAME VOICE CHAT, I can not understand how Sony can put forward things like Fadebook or Home, sooner than people are clamoring for 1 year ago but please seriously, young children seem to follow xbox, sony has no identity to create new things? It has lost the spirit This is Living proclaim that both Sony?
I do not understand many things and am very lost on the Network team appearances in the subject and listen to users, something that both Eric Lampel calls on launching their new updates.
We will continue waiting and waiting and waiting to be heard, but we could communicate on these options unless you arrive in a calmer future and so all ps3fanboys.
Things to improve:
1 – Sound of arrival of a text message.
2 – Adding voice messages of 15 seconds.
3 – Avatars??? Where ….
4 – option to view and utensils desconecsion doe of my friends lists. (It is heavy to see all the time in and out)

Greetings and sorry for my English, I feel a little sad about 3.10.

PanixATK 17 November, 2009 @ 1:05 pm   186

Im impressed.

I dont use Facebook but im sure many Facebook fans will be very happy. btw im glad it is not a compulsory thing.

im looking forward to both photo layout and colour on buddy list. going to be very handy.

steve2k7 17 November, 2009 @ 1:11 pm   187

Please can someone confirm whether universal in-game custom soundtracks is being developed by the firmware team? I would love to be able to play my own music in all my PS3 games, not just a few. I’m sorry to be picky but out of all features being requested for the PS3, this is the feature I would really love to see most of all. I would just love to know yes or no if this feature is in the works as well as cross game voice chat.

Thanks and keep up the great work.

To Mike@
The Polish Sony division provided me with information about the Polish XMB coming in the newest firmware. Question to you, why only XMB and not the whole PSN? There are a few things to translate excluding games descriptions, but for God sake, it’s a big country with 40 million inhibitants. Quite strange to me.

Orangeno 17 November, 2009 @ 1:14 pm   189

Maybe not what everyone wants but I get tired of browsing first all of my demos before i can play a game i’ve bought.

So please make a folder with demos and owned games.

(if it is possible and if others think it is handy to)

Elim_Garak 17 November, 2009 @ 1:15 pm   190

Another update that adds makeup instead of taking care of the wtinkles…

Since everyone here has posted his “grocery list”, I’ll do the same.

…better folder managemente (like pasting files where I decide, or keeping the name of a copied folder if it had one).

…better savefiles management (like on an online server… or give us the chance to copy them alltogether, at least).

…support for external .srt for .avi.

…updating Divx codec to 7.1

…native mediacenter to share files with a PC.

Raider197 17 November, 2009 @ 1:20 pm   191

I like the update. I love the new friend list design and the new photo display. Only two requests for me:

1) Could you put trophy information in the box around our PSN? I know people who don’t bother with trophies because no one can really see how many they have unless they look at their profile

2) Can you make Facebook an actual application? That would be great!

Thank you for reading!

Mistah_Murkle 17 November, 2009 @ 1:20 pm   192

seriously, all we want is cross game chat. Why has it taken so long?

Skookie30 17 November, 2009 @ 1:29 pm   193

James can you confirm that the the 3.10 will add the vid-store as extra

a site says there need to be a F/W update for the tuneing of the vid-store launch.

& lastly Nofi says he got to announce something tomorrow it must BE BIG. 😀

Chubster2010 17 November, 2009 @ 1:31 pm   194

Is this update going to fix the lack of the BBC iPlayer icon on the XMB for UK based PS3 owners with European PS3s (as supplied by Sony when their UK PS3s broke)?

If not, any word on when/if this will happen?

Will this also be an issue if/when a Facebook application is launched?

Chubster2010 17 November, 2009 @ 1:33 pm   195

Edit – Sorry…I’ll read the whole story before I post next time… I see Facebook connectivity is included!

Still…would love to know the answer to my BBC iPlayer query.

every update is welcomed ESPECIALLY if it’s REALLY useful!the “usefull”in this update is facebook?
4 me the real update would include anything that would have 2 do with a better browser, things making using PSN and PS3 more enjoyable.
seems have 2 wait again,4 this time ,always personally speaking ,i feel disappointed

DiscoMonkey 17 November, 2009 @ 1:37 pm   197

I’m probably too late to be noticed but is there anything in the works to improve music searching, like has been done with photo’s now?

Onna76_NL 17 November, 2009 @ 1:38 pm   198

@James so if I get it right the Japanese are responsible for our updates? I always thought the Americans 😕

Pure_Mind_Games 17 November, 2009 @ 1:38 pm   199

if you group by “Album” you can have Demos in a separate folder

Beside the most asked future cross game voice chat I would like to add a few more that should be on TOP PRIORITY:

In Game music from XMB

MUCH improved web browser. I can barely use it on regular websites..

Enable HQ mode for all games

and bring better connection to the headsets so you don´t lose half of what ppl are saying on the mics.

H3KingHawk 17 November, 2009 @ 1:48 pm   201

good update guys. even i won’t be using facebook its nice to see free added content to ps3, and the friends list looks a lot nicer too, but as far as more improvements are concerned, having the oppotunity to change your PSN id would be great and would work exceptionally well if it was payed for too, i and many many other people i know would definately chage their PSN id if they had the chance. please sony make it happen.

facebook sucks!!

vigilante_man 17 November, 2009 @ 1:54 pm   203

Great News!

The system gets better with each big update. I especially like Vidzone and the Photo application which works a treat with my camera.

More PS1 games would be nice, but as it’s my Birthday today then a God of War III Demo code would do just nicely….

somethingatt 17 November, 2009 @ 1:59 pm   205

Awesome new Friends List, thanks.
Great little FW update.
Hoping a Twitter version of this Facebook implementation is on the cards, I would definitely use that one.

PS: I don’t care about cross-game chat 😮

gamblor15 17 November, 2009 @ 2:01 pm   206

did you even read my post?

What I am saying is that you should not have to quit a game, wait for it to close and then have to click back on the game to start the reloading process – so in effect it is the same as loading a different game.

I am not talking about uninstalling a game, just reloading it from the last save point

Ebicurry 17 November, 2009 @ 2:01 pm   207

I guess this is great for FB Fans and Teenagers, but I don’t see myself using this…I mean who cares which demos I download.

The colourthingy is nice tho, hope to see more customization options in the near future.

squadass99 17 November, 2009 @ 2:06 pm   208

i know all of the people saying this bad… blah blah blah… but it gives me more of a reason to use facebook as it will anoy my friends on how many trophie i get 😀 just wish i had used the twitter support for uncharted now :S

Can I have my Cross Game Chat now PLEASE?!??!

Azulcity 17 November, 2009 @ 2:16 pm   210

@chubster post 192

Surely its your IP thats causing the Iplayer issue, as the consoles are not regionalised as far as I am aware.

Otherwise ill be buying a UK PS3 next time im over.

This cool, my 360 I use raptr to update Facebook/Twitter with my gaming activity, something the 360 doesnt do, but I bet raptr will be trying to tap into the feeds, auto feeds from PSN is better..I hope they dont over cross so I get raptr updating and PSN updating the same thing on my profile…

and the crossover chat?

Pure_Mind_Games 17 November, 2009 @ 2:24 pm   213

I know what you mean taking the “Soft reset” (L1+R1+L2+R2+SELECT+START) out was a bad move, some games aren’t so bad having a “quit to menu” option in the pause menu but not all of them have it.

Hey James, where we can report XMB/FW bug?

Lovingit07 17 November, 2009 @ 2:36 pm   215

Hi… I like what has been done with the ‘Photo’ section… will you do it the ‘Music’ section too? As i have over 100 songs on my PS3 and its soo anoying having to scroll through them all, it takes forever, and would be so much easier set up like the photo is now set up.

When do we get it ?

SEVENTY7 17 November, 2009 @ 2:50 pm   217

Cool update. Facebook could definitely be a good way to connect with other PSN members.
-I agree with some earlier comments about Game Status being updated and posted on facebook in a similar way as your friends list on the XMB – “Currently playing..”
-The purchases options seems interesting but something I probably won’t enable.
-I’m interested to see how the Trophy option works.

“Music” need an overhaul for sure. I hope that’s “In Progress” right now.
Custom avatars would be sweet too.
The video shows some browsing speed that I wish I had…damn.
If I could browse that fast, my PS3 would be the center of my entertainment universe.

I’m curious to see what else PSN will integrate with…
Youtube – for in-game videos/replays, etc?

JenDaMen 17 November, 2009 @ 2:50 pm   218

I dont have Facebook, but I like the colors and the pictures. Can we expect backwards compatibility of PS2 games in the future?

Sony cant do it all on their own. Open up the platform to other developers, create a free SDK. That way other companies can bring media services and apps on the system. Sony is to slow working on this stuff. But otherwise good update. However, the new UI design is really bad like many said. It does not look like a Sony-Product!

@160 posted this link and it looks beautiful!
somebody in sony should take a look and get inspired!

MavSkipper 17 November, 2009 @ 3:08 pm   221

As long as I can play Mafia Wars, it’s good news. 😀

Roxas598 17 November, 2009 @ 3:10 pm   222

For all the people shouting and moaning about cross game chat go look on page 2 and quit your moaning.

I’m liking the color idea of the friend Boxes

Could there be a way to place clips from films or trailers on our HDD’s on the background like a dynamic theme

Michelasso 17 November, 2009 @ 3:28 pm   223

James, why do you keep calling it FIRMWARE? It’s name is PS3 System Software! It isn’t a firmware and firmware isn’t its official Sony name anyway. This just generates confusion. Some people think that the PS3 SSW always modifies the logic of some device controllers in the PS3.

i don’t understand, let’s say if i turn this free game advertisement app to on, why would i get a pop up window asking me do i really want to share this information on facebook yes/no, i personally set it to on, of course i want to post it if i set it to on, can we please get some fresh minds working on future firmware updates, things are not getting done right with whoever is working on them as it is, thank you

Can’t wait to be able to use that and chat to folk online whilst playing other games 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

will9509 17 November, 2009 @ 3:44 pm   226

so no cross game chat again still at least the awful friends list will be updated.

Please remove the censorship of text chat, in Spanish censor words as harmless and common words like “hour” or “goodbye”, and is quite frustrating, I hope you have in mind for this because we spoke Spanish (at least) is a nuisance …

Why isn’t the FaceBook icon on the XMB? It would be cool if you could put any site you want ‘icon’ on the XMB 😉

noruraeus 17 November, 2009 @ 4:06 pm   229

I would love cross-game chat to, but I don’t understand why so many people here feel the need to be rude about it. I would be very surprised if not almost everyone at Sony knows that cross-game voice chat is a priority feature for users. And at the same time I would think it is obvious that Sony has not been holding it back just to be annoying.

In other words they must have had challenges implementing it, most likely system resource issues. One likely scenario I could think of it that in order to free enough resources they would have needed to reduce the resource usage of other running services, which is probably a both quite intrusive and time consuming task and thus something that has to be done gradually and with a lot of testing.

Do people here really want cross-game voice chat if the cost is lots of your games doesn’t work at all or increased stability and frame rate issues due to cross-game chat fighting with games over resources?

So guys, keep up the pressure by requesting this, but please stop the juvenile insults and insinuations, they just pollute the website and doesn’t help anyone.

Sambuque 17 November, 2009 @ 4:12 pm   230

It feels better to surf the net with the latest Internet Explorer with a ten year old entry-level PC (quite irritating but still better) that it is with the PS3. Any update on this front ?

RealSolidSnake 17 November, 2009 @ 4:21 pm   231

The facebook integration is useless, you still have to open a web browser, which lets face it, is awful on the PS3. Why not integrate it inot the XMB itself, like Xbox Live has done on their dashboard! Integrating it into the XMB would be soo much better than the web browser. On Xbox LIVE it allows you to leave comments, update your status etc from the dashboard without the need for an web browser, why can’t PS3 do that with PSN??????
And the friends list needs a serious update guys, why aren’t you looking at this guys work for reference?
This is way, waaaaaayyyyyyy better, adding the ability to see your friends home avatar as well as the artwork for the game they are playing on their profile page or friends list would be a fantastic bonus as well IMO.
And last but not least, where the hell are cross game invites and cross game chat!!!! i thot they were coming in this nw update, stop telling us it’s definately coming and tell us why its not here yet!

almighty-slayer 17 November, 2009 @ 4:30 pm   232

So instead of having an annoying block of grey we have an even more annoying rainbow coloured friends list.

can’t sony europe make the store more like the american one it’s more organised than the mess that is psn europe store, honestly it’s hard 2 find stuff on the european version it’s annoying.

Great shout GER-Cloonix!! Twitter updates (like in Uncharted 2) would be much better than FB. I get really annoyed by people that spam Facebook with how they’ve done in Bejewelled 🙁

Wow, I’m totaly disappointed.
This update is so not what I wanted.

Why not use your resouces to make some usefull additions.
I don’t give a hoot avout Facebook or whatever.

Love to see the use of different folders to orgenize my pictures, music, movies and games?

wiktorclunk 17 November, 2009 @ 5:26 pm   236

Thank you Sony for putting the Polish language for PS3 .. Of course, the probably do not know if once we get VidZone and no longer talking about the Video Store ??????????????

Azulcity 17 November, 2009 @ 5:39 pm   237

@ those who mentioned last FM

Its strange the PS3 doesnt have an internet radio, when the PSP has had one for about two years now!

AaronAMM 17 November, 2009 @ 5:41 pm   238

I look forward to the colour change and I might be interested in the facebook functionality, I will give it a try. I have to say though, I am waiting on those new avatars and cross game voice chat(I’d be complete with this one feature). At the minute I can’t get my trophies to sync up which is jolly annoying, keeps getting an error. Anyway, I don;t want to sound like the many annoying moany gits that plague this site, always demanding more because I’ve seen the progress the PS3 has made since launch. I’m very pleased to see the evolution of this console and hope that it continues as it goes along. Good work sony. 🙂

Maybe a facebook account may have to be open.
A lot of ranting about X game chat.
Would it not be better to have In-game Skype as a more productive application.
Being able to have this should not be hard to implement. Should it?
Would be a new addition to “It does everything” ad campaign.
Play HD games
Watch HD movies(soon a movie store)
Listen to music.
Browse the internet.
Now Facebook.
With Skype intergration then it would b,
And Talk to ANY other PS3 user, PC user, Skype enabled Phones……
Now “It does everything”

Paranoimia 17 November, 2009 @ 5:52 pm   240

I’m not a big user of Facebook, though I do have an account… and this is a nice feature.

I hope this is another step towards Sony opening up the PS3 stats data so that we can make use of 3rd-party sites and features such as I personally would rather have that than cross-game chat, which for me is an irrelevant feature that I would never use.

And absolutely brilliant news about the Friends list. Only having the box around the selected friend is excellent, and how it should have been from the beginning. It shows that Sony do actually listen to what their customers want.

guyvernoid22 17 November, 2009 @ 6:01 pm   241

nice little update look forward to it, but lets not forget CROSS VOICE CHAT & CROSS INVITES is what we need not just the cross chat so please SCE we have been waiting 3 years i think this is long enough time to be waiting for these features.

thanks for the efforts to bring us new things its much appreciated.

MobileTone 17 November, 2009 @ 6:51 pm   242

why, as the owner of this console can i not choose which firmware to run without being effectively banned from going online or to the PSN Store? it’s like not being able to use the internets if you don’t upgrade to Windows 7 on your PC.

It’s cool that you can change colour of your profile on the friends list, but it’s not enough!!! You should be able to buy on ps store some backrounds (I’d love Uncharted one) to decorate your profile. That would be awesome and very profitable 🙂

swcoruscant 17 November, 2009 @ 7:24 pm   244

This is great, much better than the rubbish the 360 is getting.

sharpenedpixel 17 November, 2009 @ 7:27 pm   245

Any word on being able to remove the bar from the top right (The bit with the clock and number of friends online)? It looks really messy, also still waiting on the theme that makes the text and icons smaller again. In other words, make it look like it was before 3.0 🙂

Just a idea but couldn’t you guys make a deal with mozilla to integrate firefox on PS3?
That would truly make the browsing more pleasant.

theshepanator 17 November, 2009 @ 7:37 pm   247

Great but the XMB is still a little too big for my liking. Are the features in the video the only features in the update? Also I’m sure you don’t need reminding how much people want some other social networks on PS3 too 😛 I find that the PS3’s browser loads a bit slow and sometimes pixelates fonts when I zoom in, its in need of an update! Thanks!

theshepanator 17 November, 2009 @ 7:42 pm   248

This blog needs an edit button! In my other post I meant to say why not remove the boxes completely and replace them with just a line box like the one around the clock. It could be semi-transparent through the colour the user chooses, I find the bubble boxes look cheap and not like the professional PS3 look.

makingdamage 17 November, 2009 @ 7:58 pm   249

I think it good that you continue to improve the system even if the progress is going to slow.

One thing that could be made a whole lot better is how you connect to you´re friends to play a game online. It´s a mess today. I who have used the system for several years now thinks it complicated, it must be a nightmare to the people who is new to the system.

There really should be a standard system of how you connect to a game. That would make the online experience so much easier and better.

I cannot understand why you get a message when someone invites you to play a game and then you need to start that game and figure out how to get into the game (lobby, server) your friend is playing. Waaaaaaay to complicated. It should be a no brainer to get into a game with your friends!

Instead you should be able to just click a button which says “join” and takes you directly into your friends game (even if you´re not playing that game at the moment) when you receive an invite from a friend. So much easier!

Please make the online system much easier to understand and operate.

DANNY3194 17 November, 2009 @ 8:10 pm   250

I had a pot noodle for dinner it were deliciously tasty.

theshepanator 17 November, 2009 @ 8:35 pm   251

Do the colour changes on the freinds list boxes effect the boxes in the players met menu?

Ugh, still no new avatars?

bluescopian4 17 November, 2009 @ 8:40 pm   253

Good changes but are you aware of the widespread trophy syncing error 80022A07 on psn and are there plans to fix it.

dear james – to stop everyone bleating on about this feature and that feature could a roadmap be published for future firmware versions ? That would generate useful feedback rather than this me me me fest everytime.

But while you are reading how about … 🙂

AceAssassin 17 November, 2009 @ 9:15 pm   255

bout time i hope i can set my box to clear

Zoolevation 17 November, 2009 @ 9:27 pm   256

This update is ok but far from perfect….what I miss;

– In game voice chat
– Browser acces during the game.

- Better audio/video codec support. ( divx with .srt support, AAC, mkv etc.)

– Better trophy view in friend list (level progress etc.)

– Automatic thumbnail view of (downloaded) video’s

– Much faster browser, like a modified ”Firefox 3” or a ”Webkit” based engine for example, with much more plug in support (Quicktime,Flash Player 10 etc.)

– Back up the entire savedata map,now you must copy/back up savefiles one by one. I know that you can back-up your PS3, but that is the entire hard disk. It wil be very useful if you can back-up only your savedata map.

- Faster load time of the XMB in a game.

- Auto sync of trophies in the background.
– A2DP support
– In background downloading while playing a game.
– More details when you’re installing a game update, what of kind a features or bugfixes etc.

If only the half of the list will be added in the near future…..I’ll be happy 🙂

wiktorclunk 17 November, 2009 @ 9:37 pm   257

When In game voice chat

james comments abt cross chat removed lmao guess its nt in works then . 360 time me thinks

Blasteroids 17 November, 2009 @ 9:50 pm   259

Hey James, hope you are still going to read comments on this.
What I would really like is for that XMB fade to be optional. When scanning down my DLNA album list I like to read the album names but since the introduction of the “fade” they vanish too quickly and is very very annoying. The only real use I find for this “fade” is in videos showing stuff on the XMB because it makes it in-focus but for a user it is pointless!

I thought that new PS3 photo viewer application looked awesome but never installed it because it does not support DLNA, so is another useless item IMHO. Please tell them higher-ups that DLNA should be supported more, pretty please!

LuckyLuxy 17 November, 2009 @ 10:20 pm   260

Why do we have to manually sync trophies? I love my PS3, but I know that the achievements on the 360 are on your list of achievements as soon as you earn them, boom, they are there! Also, I have noticed that it takes about 10 seconds for a trophy notification to appear on screen when I gain a new trophy, why is that? When you get an achievement on the 360, it is awarded to you instantly! It makes the trophy system feel tacked on and and after thought. Please sort this out Sony, make trophies sync AUTOMATICALLY and also award them instantly like the 360 achievements are. Thanks.

AsPiRiNgYoUtH 17 November, 2009 @ 10:39 pm   261

Man this is a great update. Now i can fight back to all those friends that keep spamming my page with all the farmville crap lol 😀

Seriously though, we dont really need cross game chat (although we do), we need cross game invite. On my 360 there was nothing better than getting sent an invite and just being able to click accept and it takes me straight there without all the hassle. Any idea when this is coming?

tantrumkidnw 17 November, 2009 @ 11:51 pm   262

the update looks really good but we should get cross game chat

tekkenism 18 November, 2009 @ 12:01 am   263

Oh, yeah, cross-game voice chat.. what a very important feature! What about backwards compatibility for PS2? What about the tons of ORIGINAL PS2 games i already own, i never touched pirate/copied games so i could support the game companies, Sony and so.. I never modchip’ed my PS1, PS2 so i could support the game developers and Sony! What will i do my PS2 games? They are sleeping in some huge boxes now! Damn!
Was removing the BC a “Thank You for your Support” for me, Sony?
Oh no, i will not buy an another PS2 console for the third time! Let me decide that, please!

Sony should include a real chat program on PSP, and you can use it to chat with contacts on the PS3.
It should be possible with the Go cam & mic …

TOMMO121081 18 November, 2009 @ 12:14 am   265

so then SCEE, you actually gonna listen to any feed back this time?

please do the following:

send some type of email or survey to all your registered accounts so you can prioritise what WE want, not what you think we want.

put a donations section on the PSN store so users like me who would happily pay you guys to help improve the service can do so. you clearly need help. i can’t think of any other reason for the sorry state of PSN.

start listening to people who start a sentence with “You know what would be great?” they tend to be right at least half of the time.

Ion-Storm 18 November, 2009 @ 12:22 am   266

Just a few things I’d love to see –

– Own music in game mandatory (if not already) network streaming?
– When inviting someone to a game in COD:MW2 you have to click invite, click triangle on friend wanted, scroll/move to invite to game, click invite to game, click to send message. How about just pressing R1 or something on highlighted player to send the default game invite message. Much faster. Apologies if this is more down to infinity ward than Sony.
Perhaps this could be extended for normal XMB use to go straight to messages from that player. Having to click triangle then scroll to messages annoys me as I never look at the profile and I always just go to a player and click x. (Probably my stupidity but it seems like a reasonable enough request) maybe even just change default view and have it as an option?
– On the game invites, how about tick boxes to send multiple invites at once?
– Any chance we can get some sort of transparent backgrounds for the friends list. No matter what colour you make it it’s still going to stop me seeing the game in the background which is very annoying when we could do it before.
– MKV support
– noticed recently I can only set my PS eye mic level to off or 3. What’s that all about?

kizzle15 18 November, 2009 @ 1:05 am   267

Please Sony update after update i pray for the next one to allow us to play music in game. The PS3 is so powerful yet it is hindered with the inability to perform pretty basic tasks. Pleeeeease. Facebook is a good addition though i’m an addict 🙂

Szymek_PL 18 November, 2009 @ 1:08 am   268

where is faster rewind music? and maybe some calendar

Guttergod 18 November, 2009 @ 1:21 am   269

While it looks slightly better the new way, the friendslist still looks like crap with that ugly box. Painting it in different colours doesn’t make it look any better.

Please, add a way to theme only the icons and those ugly boxes of the XMB.

Sounds nice 🙂 but the internet browser the ps3 got is a total mess :/ takes forever to load sites even if i have 100mbit etc. And sometimes it makes my ps3 froze so i have to reset it 😛 but nice update anyway 🙂

brookkent 18 November, 2009 @ 1:33 am   271

i would like to say that the use of twitter and facebook looks a lot better on the xbox 360. Sony you need to improve how you update things and how you listen to the people who are telling you what they want.Could you try to keep us well informed about whats happening with the movie store for the UK

i got a question, at your avatar icon/time/messages you have a scrolling text that says whats new in PSN etc. Now to my question why doesnt EU has one like that? JPN and US has that but not EU ;(

Mikelarry85 18 November, 2009 @ 1:42 am   273

Nice improvements but the bulk are features i wont use

brookkent 18 November, 2009 @ 1:43 am   274

at the moment ps3 looks dull and boring. The main menu should be more like a 360 but with its own unique sony feel.I would also have to agree with spajdah about the internet browser. Sony needs more content for games like gta 4. Xbox has two dlc ‘s and i’m begining to think i wasted my money on a game that is now extremely boring. xbox are also getting mw2 maps early. Ps3 should compete for the right to have the maps too for the sake of their customers and others who may buy xbox over ps3 because of it

brookkent 18 November, 2009 @ 1:46 am   275

spajdah ps3 in uk has this but some other countries dont its annoying america gets everything before anyone else like their the most important people in the world ha

superaktieboy 18 November, 2009 @ 2:08 am   276

Any chance of support for WPA2 enterprise support for wifi? cheers?

Good to see some Facebook integration but was expecting news feed and ability to post status updates. Hopefully that’s coming later to at least match Xbox.

Also where’s the ability to change the font size back to pre-FW3 size as requested in the last firmware update?

Here’s some other requests

Background d/l of patches
Bluetooth A2DP Stereo headphone support
Skype as on the PSP

get everything working properly before adding more stuff!

Tommy_RVD 18 November, 2009 @ 4:05 am   280

I love this! It looks like the shiz! But, I still do not like the weird font size from the last update. It looks like it’s in 480p … GRRR … please work on that. THX!

error 80022A07: will it be resolved?

Lonedrifter1989 18 November, 2009 @ 7:13 am   282

awesome! =] can’t wait! great job playstation. hopefully overtime things will get pretty advanced. 😛 I’m actually sorta a facebook addict lol, but it’ll be nice to post trophy updates and stuff. i mean so far it’s really just like an app sorta thing, but maybe over time it’ll kinda become more advanced. it’s like a game enhancer. just as long as it’s not going status update crazy! that’s kinda why i didn’t like facebook beacon, it got nosey glad they ditched that. it told your friends everything you did from renting movies from blockbuster to rating/renting games on gamefly. n i’m like ok enough is enough. as long as they clearly tell us and don’t do stuff behind our backs. get your hands on the best thing we could do is at least tie with xbox. lets try to surpass them. 🙂

Bladerunner_DK 18 November, 2009 @ 8:33 am   283

rumor has it, that today´s the day. Found this on N4G
If nothing else specific has been anounced about the comming update, then it shouldn´t be v. x.10, it more like at small addition to the previous one. Maybe 3.02 instead. But as alway – my hopes are up high anyway, I seem to enjoy the fall 🙂

Sony, please don’t waste to much time on useless facebook/twitter features!

Just because MS waste their time on it, doesn’t mean that it worth the time and resources.

Implement cross-game chat, voice messages, privacy settings and add more avatars instead – thank you!

Will this update cure the crashes? games now lock up, console freezes and either a power down is needed or a triple beep happens.
I couldn’t give a flying one about anything in this update unless you fix the disaster that was 3.01

Maybe I should send you MW2 and you can send me the refund? It’s your fault, not the games.

My god, the friendlist is getting worse and worse with every update.

Make it transparant like FW2.x. Or at least configurable so that I can overwrite all the stupid colors people are likely to choose and choose to disable the badge color completely.

The bigger font that came with FW3.0 was also said to be configurable in a future update. Has this happend in 3.10?

snowy-snow-snow 18 November, 2009 @ 12:32 pm   287

Facebook: There needs to be an option to post entries without confirmation, otherwise, this is going to become a chore. Shouldn’t the options be [Ask Before Posting|Post Without Asking|Don’t Post]. It would make things run smoother from the start and I don’t think it will be long until you hear this from a lot more people!

rocca514 18 November, 2009 @ 1:19 pm   288

I will not activate this feature trust me I just want cross game chat .so if 2day is the day just add that cause its going 2 be a waste of time serious…..

I like the colour changing in the friends list, and is starting to look like the playstation portable id. One thing I would like to see is to allow customimisable avatars. How about allowing us to put our home avatar instead of the default ones? And maybe this could eventually lead to having our home avatar in our XMB?

DDShuriken007 18 November, 2009 @ 3:54 pm   290

Hi James. 😀

The 3.10 is going to be a new update. good with all that is going to bring I have a few questions. ^^

– Added in a future update, pay channels like Animax Spain, Gol TV and Canal Plus?

– My reader is broken by the Modern Warfare 2 game and want to know if future updates you add it as an optional installation for xbox 360?

– For the earlier models that have to put operating systems. option will add an option to release the Cell and playing PC games? I’d like to because the PS3 is a very powerful piece of cars

– One last question. when added as the party chat mode for xbox 360?

Well I hope some of my questions for those of validates me at least, but the firmware are good for improving the system of the PS3. This week’s update comes a great and full of novelties.

Greetings 🙂

Great work on the pictures, but Please please PLEASE will you tell them to fix Music in a similar fashion?

Here is everything that is wrong with using the PS3 as a media centre in one simple picture:

I have nearly 400 CDs in there – and there’s just NO way of organising that number allowing you to get to the album and track you want except Artist->Album->Tracks. Even the PSP can now do that!

will this firmware fix the problems like game freezing and blu rays not working that people have experienced with 3.01 ?

matandjohn 18 November, 2009 @ 4:17 pm   293

great whens the update available

Adamisthedaddy 18 November, 2009 @ 4:57 pm   294

The ability to find friends through Facebook with PSN ID’s would be epic! Finding out that you can game with people that you may have lost contact with but have their facebook would be sweet!

darkgamer333 18 November, 2009 @ 5:01 pm   295

I am really exited about the new 3.10 update

RxGAM3ZxT 19 November, 2009 @ 2:10 am   297

Optimus-Prime-XF 19 November, 2009 @ 5:48 am   298

Sorry but I am having a huge problem on updating my ps3 to 3.10. It update’s to slow then it just stops and error. Can anyone help me?

ratm4life999 19 November, 2009 @ 10:46 am   299

WTF?? Why can’t we play music in the background anymore? Pretty much the only time I listen to my music on here is when I’m using that god-awful internet browser… Now, I can’t even keep listening to my music if I hit the PS button… Why would you do something like that?? Jesus tapdancing christ, think before you act people… Besides that retarded ass tidbit, I love the new picture setup (although I can’t agree with the other people who want their music set up like that, I would, however, like more sorting options [i.e. Sort by Artist>then Sort by Album, having all the albums in their own folders, then being able to sort by track number]). I kinda like the new colors on the friends list, and also kinda like the Facebook integration. And to everyone who thinks this will spam all of your friends profiles, they DO have the option to hide updates from Apps (trust me, I’ve hidden all my friends’ Farmville and Farkle posts). So, if they don’t like it, they don’t have to see it. Also, if you don’t use Facebook, you DON’T have to use the new Facebook integration. But, yeah, give me back my music.

Hey, where did the BBC iplayer icon go? Is that supposed to disappear with v3.10?

gottster 19 November, 2009 @ 7:17 pm   301

Is it just me or is this update taking a stupidly long time to do? Been here 10 mins and on 5%. Wtf?

LifelessGnu 20 November, 2009 @ 12:42 am   302

why cant i use the chat feature on facebook? pointless to have facebook on ps3 if all features dosent work!

Stonesthrow 20 November, 2009 @ 1:40 am   303

besides being able to change the color of your box (which is quite insignificant too) not much worth mentioning, atleast not for me..

Thank you! I now have an iPlayer icon and a TV section on my Euro PS3, yey! It was worth it all just for that alone.

Heshmagray 20 November, 2009 @ 10:58 am   305

Profile colour is cool (thanks for getting rid of all the grey boxes). However as of updating to 3.10, no videos from the EU or US Blog’s work (it says this application is not supported, with a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it). Do you guys at Sony know about this problem? If so any idea when this will be fixed? Any body else encountered this problem? Thanks, Heshmagray.

metalsaboy 20 November, 2009 @ 2:51 pm   306

I cant change my gamecard color, cause I cant see my gamecard, because of this trophy sync error: 80022A07, WHEN WILL THIS BE FIXED?

bullet150 20 November, 2009 @ 5:21 pm   307

it’s not downloading. well it is but at a rate of about 1% evey 5 minutes. This is rediculous. why release an update that takes two hours fifteen minutes to download 50% (which you then loose because you have to go out and turn it off)?

All my other updates downloaded in ten mins or less but this is one stupid update. Can’t sign in until i’ve wasted four hours of electricity downloading the polish language to my system.

ANU120355 21 November, 2009 @ 12:48 pm   308

realised that I can’t write the swedish letters å ä and ö in the browser which makes it difficult for me to do sertain stuff.

Sunjammer 24 November, 2009 @ 1:33 am   311

I don’t know why but Sony seems to have completely lost its way with the 3.x updates. It needs someone who knows what they are doing to take over from the buffoon currently trying to derail the crazy train. Each of the 3.x changes has made most of us like using the PS3 less and this one is no exception.

I don’t understand Sony’s logic: the feedback on the “ugly grey boxes” was pretty much universal hatred. So why, instead of removing them as we asked, make the situation worse by introducing a potential riot of colour over which the we have no control?

At the very least these “ugly rainbow boxes” should be entirely optional: we should be able to suppress them completely rather than restrict it to one. I don’t have a stupid theme or background for my XMB so I don’t want or need my friends to be boxed in garish colours.

Moreover (for the tiny minority that don’t find them completely worthless) we should be able control the colour(s) used in our friends list (rather than having to ensure our friend’s choices). Allowing us to colour code our friends list (and then order by colour) might be the only redeeming aspect in currently pointless “feature”.

SMOKING-GOOSE- 24 November, 2009 @ 12:15 pm   312

rubbish update we keep telling sony we like gross chat and the chance to change our gamer pics with some thing knew so wot do them do give us this rubbish come on sony lets go forward not backwards

mikeread275 26 November, 2009 @ 9:28 am   314

Only one problem with this update, only the main account holder can access the Facebook sync. We have 6 users on our playstation with Facebook Accounts, how can we sync our accounts has we are the main users???.

I_P1NKY_I 1 December, 2009 @ 3:44 pm   315

When I sign into PSN I feel really, really lonely because it lacks the one, most requested feature of all… CROSS GAME CHAT.
I dont want to have to use Text Chat to talk to people because its useless, I might aswell not be playing my PS3 as you spend most of your time pausing the game to type a short message.

Xbox LIVE has had this feature since 2005. Why is it taking so long to put in onto PSN? If they are even trying that is.

I guess I can speak for everyone when I say… Please Bring CROSS GAME CHAT.

Can you please keep bugging them to bring it out as Im getting tired of not being able to play my favourite games and talk to someone properly at the same time. =(

Ashe_XII 4 December, 2009 @ 8:31 am   316

Instead of useless firmware updates, how about an update for the Adobe Flash Player?

TinTeeth96 5 December, 2009 @ 9:59 am   317

will this help the profile problem though. i cant sync my Trophies

kripticlore 11 December, 2009 @ 2:37 am   318
