Media Go 1.3 update

Lets get straight to the point – Media Go, the free software that lets you manage your PSP game, music, video and photos on your PC has been updated with some handy new features in version 1.3…

… and here they are …

Download status is now displayed, letting you know how long until you can start playing that new game.

Image 1

You can also now pause your downloads allowing you to control which items in the list download first, so if you have just brought a great new game for your PSP you can pause everything else, get the game and start to get through the levels while the rest of your content downloads.

System update notice – when you plug your PSP into your PC it will automatically suggest you update to the latest PSP system software if you haven’t already. Handy, if you’re like me and constantly forget to update.

Bonus Digital Copy – Media Go 1.3 now detects if there is extra bonus copy for your PSP on a DVD or Blu-ray disc. This feature will start to be used by the studios in the future to give you extra features from films and games specifically for your PSP.

As well as music playlists (added in the last update) you can now transfer video and photo playlists from your PC to your PSP in Media Go 1.3

Media Go now supports Windows 7 and you get some nifty little features like transfer progress on the Windows task bar.

Image 2

And you get a thumbnail of media go in the task bar that includes handy playback controls

Image 3

We have added a photo reel so that you can view your photo albums easier in the film strip style you can see below.

Image 4

When playing your media in Media Go we have added a quick link on the play back controls for you to go straight to that track/video in your library.

Image 5

You now have the ability to choose the thumbnail that represents your videos from any part of the actual video footage. Simply go to the video properties and then the Artwork tab and choose the frame you want to act as the thumbnail.

Image 6

You can now adjust the text size within Media Go to the setting that suits you best. Simply go to ‘preferences’ and select the text size you want.

You will notice the new ‘Comics’ tab under library now. This is to allow you organize all your digital comics when they launch on the Store in December 2009 (UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and please see playstationcomics.com for details of when comics will be hitting other countries).

The final part of this update is that we have added the ability to rotate videos whilst in full screen mode. This is especially handy if, like me, you often film videos on your phone/camera in portrait and then only relalise when you go to view it on your PC!

Will this ever be available on a mac?

Any chance that you’ve speeded up the time it takes to transfer data (esp videos) over to the PSP? It’s incredibly slow atm and is a lot quicker to do via Windows Explorer!

Think about Mac users please.

Windows 7 support? How nice :-(

Pretty useless for a mac user…

Mac support?! please…

Thank you so much for download management! So helpful when you have a couple of GBs worth of games to download!

However… OS X support would be really nice, and am surprised it isn’t available yet. Mac users represent a significant proportion of home use computers, especially the tech savvy users, likely to buy a PSP.

James James James.I know we becoming pain in the bum but you cant ignore 15% of the market.Yes Yes i am talking about us the Mac OS X user.I bought a PSP GO only because i could do all the things that Media Go offers via PS3.But all those users that dont have ps3 and still want to buy a PSP,what about them ?Plus why are you pushing us using 3rd party application…?
Anyhow if you have any comment about the Mac version,or even if there is any though that you may port it ,let us know. Don’t leave us in the dark.We are all buddies here, right ?

Add me to the chorus of Mac users needing this.

Mac Support? I use a Mac more frequently!

Personally I’d much rather have the PSP store work as advertised. Most of the time I have to download the files on PS3 because the PSP fails to (with an obscure error number) regardless how many times I try, and then hook up a cable and tranfers them. What’s the point of being able to grab something on the go, then? Most of the time codes don’t work at all on the PSP and this IS a brand new PSP 3000.

Oh, and count me in regarding Macs.

Steve Jobs is very disappointed in lack of OS X support…

Great except I work with Macs not windoze.

LOL at all the MAC posts :D

WHAT DO WE WANT!? “MEDIA GO FOR MACS!” WHEN DO WE WANT IT!? “NOW!” :D hehe

Should I add another comment for mac support..?
Oops, I just did :)

Another mac user here that’d appreciate a forthcoming release :)

Sod Mac, Linux please!
Or how about sharing *how* it works, and it can be added to existing apps on both Mac & Linux?

Not trying to derail the Mac mob but what happened to the flash support in the PS3 browser after the FW update?
Every other webpage with flash doesn’t work, including this one.
“Plugin not supported”.

Looks good, keep those updates coming :)

I agree with #16, why not open source the mediaGo suite so we can have a go at porting it to Linux/Mac in the community?

Just going to comment that the Mac OS market share is much closer to 9-10% than 15%. That’s not to say they should ignore you just that the overwhelming majority of user will use a PC.

Updates are good, just annoying they’ve all landed at once. My download limit is going far too quickly…

The PSP video store could rely do with some sort of markers on the Icon to show whether something is buy or rent or both. The PS3 store I’ve not seen yet but that should have a SD, HD, Both marker too.

Or there should be a full set of category’s for rent and a full set for buy.

At the moment I’m looking around category’s, say sci-fi but have to go into each one so see if I can rent it

Solid _Snake1987,the latest figures of quarter 3 2009 says around 14% but thats not the point. The point is that they ignore the Mac community. We don’t want.at least the most of us, to use windows. We shouldn’t be forced to do so….This is not a fame war between Mac OS X users and Windows. We just pointing out that we are here and we DO exist. As much as i love Sony products,in this direction her customer care lucks a lot…

@11 Hahaha ,yea Steve much be really annoyed right now.

23

To all Mac users:

If you wanted to run software other than Apple, WHY DID YOU BUY A MAC?

stop whining, buy a PC, and next time look past the slick marketing to the practicalities.

24

@DarkStyler

That 14% you quote is US only. Worldwide, mac is only 7% and thus pretty insignificant.

Media Go is the only sony software I did not deinstall immediately after installing. Its quite good!

But yeah, a mac version is definately needed.

On topic:
Can’t we have the PS3 convert files to the PSP instead? No need for a MAc or a Windows machine =)
I mean the PS3 can stream all your video material live, as long as your PSP is connected to the internet, why not just allow the PS3 save the stream to it’s HDD and the be able to transfer that to the PSP?

27

@HiggsBoson1 – but what is the percentage of PSP owners with a Mac, that would be much more relevant. But you don’t know, so you can’t say it’s insignificant.

28

DON’T USE MEDIA-GO SOFTWARE. It corrupts your downloads. Sony won’t fix them either.

I downloaded Gran Turismo Promotion for my PSP GO, using Media Go, and Sony told me this is wrong and I shouldn’t use Media Go.

Another request for OS X support, here.

Please and thank you. :-)

when will the mac version be made available?

Mac version please.

Like always…. pleas Mac version!

A Mac version of Media Go would be appreciated even in Italy.
Thanks.

Sounds great, now when will I be able to use it on my mac?

…and would it be possible to port it to ps3? that would be handy.

Great update!

What on Earth is the point of a blog if you never acknowledge the comments? Why not just email us all a press release.

How many times do we have to ask for a Mac version whilst having incremental windows improvements thrown in our faces before someone actually listens, or at least responds?

Seriously, whatever you guys ever post about Media Go always results in a torrent of requests for a Mac version, can’t you hear us?

®

Can you PLEASE make a mac version!! NOW!

I was hoping game sorting was possible by now and the Media Go interface itself had gotten a needed facelift instead of still looking and feeling bloated and rigid.

I also don’t like that the download and installation of three different Apple applications are made compulsory prior to the actual Media Go installation itself. First thing I always do after each Media Go installation is uninstalling “Apple Application Support”, “Apple Software Update” and “QuickTime”. Media Go works fine without them. Please make them optional in the future.

Finally, it’s still a disappointing looking layout the SCEE store has compared to the sleek and user-friendly SCEA ditto. Please use SCEA’s template and clean up the ugly, messy and lacking (still no demo section eg.) SCEE PSN store once and forever.

Couple of questions regarding the comics:

1. Can I store the comics on an M2 card in my PSP go?
2. Can I play music from the M2 card?

I ask this because Gran Turismo does not let me play music from the M2 card which is a pain as I wanted to keep games and apps on the internal memory and videos and music on external cards.

Thanks!

Also I need Media Go for Mac. PSPs are cool, Macs are cool. It should come as no surprise that many PSP owners are Mac users!

You know what would be cool? If there was a Mac version.

I really don’t know why Sony think that we love Microsoft’s products so much that we only use their operating system…

Yeah sorry but another Mac request right here.

and @HiggsBoson1 the reason why we bought Macs is because the OS is better in every way.I have XP and Windows 7 (on my Mac by the way) and while W7 is a decent OS, OSx just works so well.

A funny story, Steve Jobs went to Sony and said “i’ve got this idea called iTunes, do you guys want to share half the cost and help us set it up?”

The rest is history.

Isn’t it funny that as Microsoft is increasingly linking the Windows and Xbox brands and benefitting from the relationship between the two, that Sony requires it’s users to use a Microsoft operating system for something like this…

…Sony – you’re making your customers use your competitor’s product! If I like the shiny new Windows OS, then maybe it will occur to me buy an Xbox, at the very least I will have been brought into the Microsoft fold and given the chance to warm to their brand.

Sony ought to position itself as the non-Microsoft path in every respect. Linux and Mac versions of the PSP software are a no-brainer.

Get some decent developers on it for a month, what’s the problem?

®

Be good to have Linux support. Or at least the Windoze source code for the application so we can convert it.

In the mean time I’ll stick to the ways I use my PSP now, and at some point get around to making my self some kinda mini-app to do this.

Being a Linux Exclusive user (As in, I don’t touch Microsoft products at all, not their consoles, or their OS, or any of their products!) This is pretty pointless, be cool if you could do a Linux app! :D

Linux Please.

Solaris version as well please while you’re at it…

Useless if not available for the Mac. Who uses windows these days anyway?
