‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Store Update (23rd June 2010)

Welcome to what future civilisations may describe as something of a monster week of content.  I’m going to be modest and say it’s only slightly monster, but you get the picture; there’s a serious amount of content available this week (before anybody says otherwise, I have not been sitting on it all this time, I promise) :-)

Before we tuck into the main bulk of the update, there are new Special Offers available this week, with some monstrous PixelJunk related goodness on offer amongst other titles, and we also have a collection of Sonic goodies from SEGA on offer to help celebrate the blue one’s 19th birthday.  I asked if the spiky one was available to come to the blog to comment, but apparently he’s a game character and doesn’t actually really exist.  Shame.

So, onto the new content, let’s head straight into one of the most discussed games in these comment sections of late…The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, yes indeed it’s here at last.  Avast mateys!  Come and enjoy the piratey goodness that’s in store.  Classic gameplay, liberally covered with lovely new splashes of paint, and more Guybrush than you’ll know what to do with, sounds good right?

If you want more, then Battlefield: Bad Company 2 drops new supplies onto the front, with the new Onslaught Mode hitting hard and fast.  Adding new multiplayer co-op gameplay elements for you and three friends – thus meaning four players can test their skills across new maps – this is an explosive new addition for all you battlefield veterans out there.

Not enough for you?  Well then I hasten to add that we have the latest Sam and Max episode, retro based fun in the form of 3D helicopter adventure game Landit Bandit, Helghast additions to the world of Lost Planet 2 via the Killzone 2 Character Pack and much more besides.  There literally is too much for me to try and do justice to through my mere words…therefore, as usual, there’s a full list below.

One final thing to mention, Red Dead Redemption had its first piece of additional content hit the store yesterday in the shape of the Outlaws to the End Co-op Pack, so get downloading for more multiplayer fun in the Wild West…and even better, it’s totally free!

If you’re mean to me this week in the comments I will likely cry (which will probably happen anyway this afternoon if England get beat by Slovenia), so let’s just all bask in the glow of the global harmony the World Cup has brought and only trade compliments this week.  Deal?

Cheers all.

xchris2008x 23 June, 2010 @ 12:51

Why are games sooo expensive on psn?

Will we ever get Sonic 1,2 and 3 on the store?

as the one on the mega collection is glitchy (sonic 1)

bring on onslaught mode!!!

When can we expect Medal of Honor Demo? have they annouced a release date?

I’m sure there must be one coming, but nothing that I know of just yet.

Great update thanks Mike!

Monkey Island, Samd & Max and loads of DLC for me ;-)

PS+ next week cant wait…

xchris2008x 23 June, 2010 @ 12:54

no harry potter demo either not like it matters for me now as my collectors edition is coming tomorrow.

MairusuPawa 23 June, 2010 @ 12:54

Hmmm… Nope, still no OtherOS in there.

Nice update Mike :-)

I contacted Activision last week about a BLUR demo. They told me they didn’t know anything (no yes, maybe or no, just nothing).
So I’m not counting on it anymore. I thought I should let you know ;-).

um i cant see the MAG DLC?
what times uptime mike mate?

It should have been listed, it IS coming today, I’m asking the blog team to amend my post now :)

wardragon989 23 June, 2010 @ 12:54

Erm wheres the MAG interdiction pack?

almighty-slayer 23 June, 2010 @ 12:54

Um Mikey, is it just mme being stupid or is the MAG DLC not listed? That’s supposed to be out today…?

Nothing else for me on there but good for everyone that was complaining about Monkey Island :)

beardyweirdy 23 June, 2010 @ 12:54

still naruto or bleach games for psp what a disgrace

The publisher hasn’t submitted them for release, what can I say? Sorry.

Thanks for the Monkey Island and Agarest DLC’s, been waiting for them!

But now I need to buy another PSN card to get Playstation Plus subscription next week :)

Soooo Mike… might as well get this out of the way with now, PS1 classics?

As you can see, none this week, sorry.

Great to see so much content in this update, It has everything and that steve guy was wrong about monkey island :P

Anyway mike, wasn’t their supposed to be a free Tuk Tuk boom for Just Cause 2 today?

Anyway great update, I do wish my country got into the world cup so i could have a sackboy character :(

yo mike this update is HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE! WOW theres bound to be something there for me dont know wat tho lol

xchris2008x 23 June, 2010 @ 12:55

Blue Toad Murder Files – Episode 1 (was – £4.79/€5.99 now – £0.99/€1.49)

Wow never buying psn games at full price again, what a waste of £4

Fair enough, but question for you; do you never buy anything from other retailers? Because they will price reduce content months after first release too.

AstroZombie1 23 June, 2010 @ 12:55

The usual between 3 and 5 then mike for the update?

Hopefully a bit earlier today.

Great update! :D Not often I post, but I felt this one was well worth commenting on. Must… have… Monkey… Island… :D

an EPIC batch this week mikeface, great job!!!

I will be buying a fair bit of content for my new PSPgo today which leads me to my question…

Last week i saw someone comment on the pspgo 10 games deal, asking if there was any reason it was taking so much time. its been 2 weeks and i lack my code (while others have got theirs) and while I’m trying to be patient i cant help but feel a little miffed. :(
Did you manage to find out anything?

anyway, awesome update. should of said spoilers at Sonic not being real though… you ruined my day ;)

Loco Roco Midnight Carnival pack for me!
And maybe some avatars.
Thank you! :D

Meh. Nearly nothing new on the PSP side. C’mon, just 3 minis?!?!? And no Badman 2 on the PT store yet >_>

I’m keeping my cash in my pocket today, I’ll wait for my PS+ subscription before I buy any of this bountiful feast, in case I can get some discounts on them!

Also, will the Store update before or after the England game?

Tridentmorph 23 June, 2010 @ 12:56

Wow, Monkey Island and Sam and Max in the same week, looks like I will be adventuring the next few days away.

What happened to the MAG DLC..? :S

Also, do you know what the deal is with the ‘Special Offers’ and PS+..
e.g. Once PS+ hits, will these offers then become exclusive to subscribers only?

Special Offers will always be available to everyone, we are not changing that, and they will still be offered every two weeks as usual. Discounts for Plus subscribers will be different.

djax-djax-djax 23 June, 2010 @ 12:56

No Downloadable Games for PSP today? Bad update for PSP owners, very bad update :-(. And new tables for Pinball Heroes? Where are?

pretty good update today, nice amount of new games there. I need to get a move on and finish off Sam & Max ep2!

any word when we can expect Kick Ass in Australia?

You sneaky….. There we were hearing rumours of an August release for Monkey Island, and all of a sudden it’s here!

That’s made my day.

Stealth release, oh yeah ;)

No Monkey Island in Russia :( /cry

steven_dutch 23 June, 2010 @ 12:57

Monkey Island. Awesome. Been waiting a long time for this. Cheers.

flower avatar! xD

Mikey any news regarding a price drop for MGS PW?

oh and and news on that FMA game aswell if you can

Oldest_Ancient 23 June, 2010 @ 12:58

Cheers Mike,

Sam & Max and BC2 Onslaught for me. Nice to see a selection of PSN titles up but they could really do with a demo.

Sam&Max ep3=mine

Hey Mike,

In the Australian PSN Store, When I try to download the Twisted Metal and Gran Turismo 5 E3 Trailers, the thing I download is a Modnation icon pic. Can you fix up the problem?

I really wanna download those trailers!

The team are looking into this, should be rectified soon.

This post lacks “MAG”. Where is it?! We know it’s today — surely it is, but why is it not mentioned in this?

Aside from that, when can we expect the Store to update? :)

almost forgot, I’ve seen pre-order listing of Persona 3 Portable on sites like GAME for early next year. (assuming your magical fortune telling crystal ball can see such a distance ahead) any plans of bringing that on to the store? no timelines or anything, just a nod will keep me happy.

Oh and thanks for your answer on the PSP essentials last week, twas appreciated as always mate :)

SurrealNightmare 23 June, 2010 @ 12:59

Wow! I thought Ghostlight had given up on publishing the Agarest DLC. Glad to see we got it in the end.

I’ll have to download it some time in the future when I get back into the game.

Decent Update :)
Mike do you know if TNA:IMPACT which is out on psp next friday i believe well be on the store? As I really want it on My psp go!
Thanks! :)

TwinBlade04 23 June, 2010 @ 13:00

Hi Mike!
It’s me again with the same question (really sorry to bug you with this again): what happenned with the Modnation Racers Tag Costume for LBP? It’s still not back on the store (at least not on the portuguese one). :(

Can you please look into this? :)

I apologise, I had already flagged this, but will do so again. You can find it via the search button at the top of the store though, we’ve tried that and found it ;)

PSN-OmniusALX 23 June, 2010 @ 13:00

Hi Mike!

Good to see some newish content out for us PSPGo users something to go at (over the last couple of weeks)

So to add to this, will we see Metal Slug Anthology and the PSP version of Ace Combat?????

beardyweirdy 23 June, 2010 @ 13:01

so are you saying naruto and bleach games are coming out its just a matter of time

All looks pretty good! I remember you telling me Grandia would be out sometime at the end of June, next week then? :D

Seems I jumped the gun with that information, and the publisher rightly corrected me for giving information to the contrary. As my note last week, I’m going to be much more careful with what release dates I give in future, as in, unless it’s 100% confirmed I’m saying nowt from now on ;)

Finally Secrets of Monkey Island, thank you :)

What’s keeping the super street fighter avatar from reaching us?
And please could you awnser when we are getting castlevania: Symphony of the night, I bet your sick of that question but..!

I haven’t seen a submission from Capcom but will try and find out if they’re coming.

As for Castlevania I know of no plans from Konami to bring it to our store, sorry.

Nice update

might grab sackboy avatar if england get through lol

No E3 Sony Conference or Game Trailers from the meet??? :|

I know it was a US event but your counterparts store had at least 20 trailers posted each evening during the 3 days.

Other than that area lacking, it’s a good update. Surprised to see Landit Bandit up there. Muster was only posting Dev interviews last/this week.

Last week we posted over 20 trailers, check the E3 trailers section of the store.

In fact there are 33 trailers :)

Load all

We close the comments for posts after 30 days.
