PlayStation Home: The Midway Carnival Arrives, Plus Pool Tables And More!

The Midway Carnival – available Thursday, July 1st – launches with 10 games, over a hundred rewards (including the Darla’s Den personal space), and plenty of secrets that you will have to uncover for yourself as you progress through this massive new game space. Simply collect your tickets from the kiosk at the entrance to the Midway Carnival and embark on a journey where a new reward is unlocked for every level of every game you master. Hang out in the space for long enough and you can even be rewarded with more plays for your favourite games (or the ultimate bragging rights at the Meet Darla photo booth). You can even collect exclusive arcade-style games like Trigger Happy-in-a-Box for the Darla’s Den personal space!

If you’ve not been to the Audi Space for a while, drop by this week! Audi are celebrating their victory at Le Mans 2010 with their latest update. Headlining the updates, Vertical Run is revised with all-new – and more challenging! – boost and hazard placement, new reward for expert drivers, and a new car based on the Detroit Motor Show version of the e-tron.

Hot on the heels of the Darts board released last week, VEEMEE bring us not just one, but two pool tables! Head to Stuff to pick up the pool table bundle, priced at 2.49 € / £1.99 (discount applies for owners of the London Pub). These stylish tables look great when not in use. Step up to the table and you’ll find three rules variants available: English on one table, American and 9-ball on the other.

For those enjoying the ‘80’s themed Playground space, this week sees the next in our releases of clothing and furniture. Check out the screenshot below for a sampling of what will be available this Thursday! Once you’re done checking out the ‘80’s costumes, why not browse through the new Fantasy Fashion available at Alter Ego. There’s Demon and Angel wings available for male and female, along with male Barbarian and Minotaur outfits.

Creative community member Agamer2006 recently developed rules for creating custom board games within Home personal spaces. This week we release a board game construction pack, featuring special new animated dance floor tiles. Build a custom dance floor, or get creative and create a game for you and your friends!

Have you heard of the Virtual Costume Convention (VCon)? Community member Dacrates has put together a full weekend of costume convention madness in PS Home this weekend. There will be plenty to see and do during the weekend, so check out the schedule of events to see what you can get involved with. There will be costume contests, quiz night and board game session and more! See you there. 🙂

Did you enjoy this?

Nice to see the Midway Carnival come, looks to be packed with fun mini games.

xLegioNx 30 June, 2010 @ 5:36 pm   2

Nice Thy 😉

On a side note though, when will we get the rest of the lockwood collection?

    Alex Weekes 30 June, 2010 @ 5:38 pm

There’s a handful more this week. It’s coming, in a slow trickle for now. We’re grabbing their content to help fill out each update when we have room beside other content.

Carla_Birch 30 June, 2010 @ 5:37 pm   3

Video is not yet working btw 🙂

Agamer2006 30 June, 2010 @ 5:39 pm   4

Hey folks, if you want to learn how to create your very own board game in Home, then this thread will teach you everything you need to know to create the Home board game for your night in 😀

Carla_Birch 30 June, 2010 @ 5:41 pm   5

Is that a Pool table for my Room/Apartment? COOL! 😛

Mattaio19 30 June, 2010 @ 5:50 pm   9

Any word on the Toy Story 3 Content, Thy? 😀

    Alex Weekes 30 June, 2010 @ 5:56 pm

Stay tuned – will hopefully be able to share more with you soon.

loonytoon1982 30 June, 2010 @ 5:51 pm   10

I have to be the one to ask it, don’t I? :p

Given the recent addition of the Pay to Play feature, will there be a premium element to this new space?

Also will the Yakuza item pricing issue be fixed tomorrow?

Agamer2006 30 June, 2010 @ 5:55 pm   11

I think you have to purchase tokens, but it would mostly be like a set of tokens which you can use for any game.

    Alex Weekes 30 June, 2010 @ 5:58 pm

That’s correct. Each game costs 1 token per play. A book of 100 tokens will cost 0.99 € / £0.79. Periodically one of the games will be opened up to play for free for a short period so that you can try it out.

DANNY3194 30 June, 2010 @ 5:57 pm   12

Aww no Irem *hint hint*

But there’s no Toy Story 3 apartment, other than that this is a great update!

I think PlayStation Network Plus users should get most of this content free of charge…seriously home needs to have content just for psn+ members plus when will ps3/psn games start to use our ps home avatars

imajinetion 30 June, 2010 @ 6:07 pm   14

When will we be able to use our Home avatars as PSN avatars? 🙁

    Alex Weekes 1 July, 2010 @ 9:40 am

That isn’t a feature that will be developed by this team, so I can’t comment.

tom1234321 30 June, 2010 @ 6:13 pm   15

So are all the mini games coming out now going to be paid content? Ok your not charging much but it seems that way. Also stuff like this needs to be free for PS+ members, its a great way to join PS Home with PS+. Also great update.

” Periodically one of the games will be opened up to play for free for a short period so that you can try it out”
Does this mean one game will be free for like the first week then another the next week and so on, or is it a limited trial type of thing and stop being free eventually? Also while they are free can we unlock rewards? Thanks in advance if you answer my comment.

    Alex Weekes 1 July, 2010 @ 9:42 am

There will continue to be free mini-games the same as previously.

With regards the free time, this means that for short periods (minutes, not hours or weeks) one of the games will be available to play free. There will be a notice popup in the space when this happens letting you know which game and for how long. You can unlock rewards during free play.

get rid of that horrible robot game thy its such an eye sore to say the least , what about the stuttering in home since update everytime you enter a space you avatar freezes for a few secs a couple of times .

@Alex Weekes

I can only play one table at a time 😀
Well unless i am drunk down the Pub[a real one]then i am all over the place 😀

why are we forced to purchase a two table bundle ? i only want 1 table the 9 ball 1 but now you guys are doing this deal to get a bit more money from people its just stopped me from buying anything so nice 1 . sigh you guys need to start giving options

    Alex Weekes 1 July, 2010 @ 9:44 am

The pricing for the pool tables is great value whether you want one or both, especially for London Pub owners who will receive a discount.

tom1234321 30 June, 2010 @ 6:19 pm   19

@seany I agree can’t you move the robot game to another place? It’s taking up loads of room and we need a open space in home square!

Has the shopping centre crashing bugs been fixed too? I and anothers are sick of it crashing our PS3s.

DANNY3194 30 June, 2010 @ 6:23 pm   20

I’m back with the three questions 🙂

1. Any news on The Waterfall Terrace?
2. Are there any fixes for the bugs in the Shopping Centre?
3. Is their any upcoming Irem content coming soon?

LILVAPER3 30 June, 2010 @ 6:24 pm   21

Awsome to see carnival space defiently purchasing some tokens

smashedcrab 30 June, 2010 @ 6:42 pm   22

DarK_EviL 30 June, 2010 @ 6:59 pm   23

Alex, I saw there is a Home starter pack on the US PSN.
I would like to know if you plan to do the same on the EU PSN with some starter packs too or costumes, furnitures packs ?

TalllPaul 30 June, 2010 @ 7:02 pm   24

Woo that carnival looks very fun.

BalramRules 30 June, 2010 @ 7:46 pm   25

ProphetOfRage 30 June, 2010 @ 7:48 pm   26

Pay to play?
No thanks you can keep it.

Mattiebo123 30 June, 2010 @ 9:26 pm   27

“Creative community member Agamer2006” pfft 😛

looks like a great update, I’ve been looking forward to the carnival space for a while 😀 79p for 100 tokens to spend on 10 different games is a great deal too 😉

Pay to pay?

Gone of the days where Home as a whole is actually FREE!!!

Yea we get choice wether to pay for games on home but its still a silly idea and needs to stop. SCEE makes enough money as it is in Home.

Agamer2006 30 June, 2010 @ 9:53 pm   29

I shall think of creative ways to get my revenge Mr Mattiebo 😛

Stonesthrow 30 June, 2010 @ 10:00 pm   30

home has grown out to be more interesting, but still i dont see why i would spent a lot of time here if i can play actual fullgames..already spent too much money on home guys should cut down the prices asap..more than 2 bucks for an outfit..that’s robbery..

andycass 1 July, 2010 @ 12:21 am   31

Pay to play.. jesus Sony are going all out in their qeust to push people away from the PS3.

Agamer2006 1 July, 2010 @ 12:35 am   32

To the people who complain about pay to play. For 79p for 100 tokens is brilliant value for money. Their 10 mini games in this space with 100 rewards to earn and a brand new apartment which will contain your very own games to play. Developers need to make money, otherwise this project would never have happen and we wouldnt have a space like this one here.

The same applies to SuperRoboGoalieTime which is also good value for money as I bought 20 tokens and I still have 13 left which would last me to the end of summer.

So support this space and buy 100 tokens, if you dont you are messing out as other home users have fun earning every award and getting alot of their monies worth.

II_MURPHY_II 1 July, 2010 @ 1:14 am   33

Just wondering if theres any way to enjoy HOME without having to pay for things with real money, everytime ive went on ive just walked around and danced with a few random people and thats all i think i could do, can anyone tell me some good and interesting things to do that are FREE ?

    Alex Weekes 1 July, 2010 @ 9:47 am

Have you visited the Audi or GAME spaces and tried the mini-games? Stopped by the event spaces, such as ModNation Racers or minis?

Mr_Freaker 1 July, 2010 @ 6:36 am   34

Seems nice
Now if only Home wouldn’t shut down my PS3 when I click on the icon that would be great

    Alex Weekes 1 July, 2010 @ 9:48 am

Sounds like you are having trouble updating from 1.35 to 1.36. If you are seeing the update notice popup, instead of pressing X immediately wait a few minutes before doing so and the update should run without problem.

Falcon1991 1 July, 2010 @ 7:04 am   35

I look forward to trying out the Midway carnival space after work. 😉

I only read the first sentence and had to reply.

Your seriously gullible to think SCEE and the rest of Home devs dont make enough money as it is. As if theres not enough £1.79 different coloured pixels the shape of a Tshirt in the shopping malls, ads etc yet charging to play games in home is a complete contradiction for what home was always meant to be in the first place!

The lack of 79p for 100 tokens (Lol, my god) wont be missed by those little Home dev children going hungry mate. They make enough money from us.. no, from you has it is.

Soon SCE will be charging us for virtual water, eletric and rent for our avatars.

Dont tell me alex, “Stay tuned – will hopefully be able to share more with you soon.”

Bottomline is this: charging for Tshirts and stuff is one thing but charging for virtual tokens to play virtual games that will only hold your attention for 10 – 60sec isnt cool.

I love the concept of Home but this charging for things like this is wrong, Phil harrison will be constantly turning in his sleep. Lol

FREE will certanly not live in Home for much longer.

Helvedeshunden 1 July, 2010 @ 9:37 am   37

Well you could go stand in line for crummy Flash-like games if that’s your thing.

You could also try counting the frame rate drops as you move around Home. Plenty to do there.

I think the Sodium game is probably the best free activity on there (if it still is that), but it’s kind of hidden away a bit. There’s also the Buzz thing that’s sort of game-like.

Helvedeshunden 1 July, 2010 @ 9:39 am   38

I guess I would give it a go, were it not for the minimum wallet funding on purchases.

sazzrah 1 July, 2010 @ 9:54 am   39

Is it just me or is anyone else having problems logging into Playstation Home at the moment? My connection is fine, I can do anything else online with my PS3 but Home just keeps saying “The connection to the server was lost”. 🙁

    Alex Weekes 1 July, 2010 @ 11:03 am

Home is down for maintenance right now, so that the new content can be published.

ShoaibO 1 July, 2010 @ 10:54 am   40

Can’t wait for the update, why is everyone complaining about paying for Home items? SONY have to make a profit somehow.

sazzrah 1 July, 2010 @ 10:55 am   41

I dont mind paying for Home items, what I do mind is the EU Home being shafted compared with the Japanese and US versions. They have more of everything – more areas, more items, many many more clothes.

It’s just rubbish that we are left by the wayside all the time.

smashedcrab 1 July, 2010 @ 11:18 am   42

do it or dont do it easy..

mufc183 1 July, 2010 @ 12:36 pm   43

When is the Toy Story 3 estate coming to EU home? i would love to see it their.

Spot on!

ShoaibO 1 July, 2010 @ 3:56 pm   45

How long will this maintanance take?

seany1 1 July, 2010 @ 4:00 pm   46

home clearly needs a day and night cycle it can be done but somehow only scea take advantage of it like most things actually lol

seany1 1 July, 2010 @ 4:18 pm   47

after you saying its 100 tokens for 79p alex i just heard you only get 50 tokens for 79p so whats that all about ? porkie pies

taurus82 1 July, 2010 @ 4:48 pm   48

At last, a full Minotaur outfit, took you long enough.

tom1234321 1 July, 2010 @ 4:48 pm   49

The book is only 50 tokens. -_- Thats a big different, 50% actually.

tom1234321 1 July, 2010 @ 4:52 pm   50

Sorry for double post, but it seems like the store glitch isn’t sorted either, still crashers PS3. -_-
