‘Heads-Up’ Game Store Update (11th August 2010)

UPDATE: I’ve just been given the information about a new addition for PlayStation Plus today; Plus subscribers will have two week’s early access to PixelJunk Racers 2nd Lap and have a 20% discount on it too.  However, if you already own PixelJunk Racers then 2nd Lap is free.

Good afternoon pilgrims, hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Over here in PSN land we have new goodies galore hitting our digital shelves later this afternoon.

As you can gather from the above image, our highlighted piece this week is the game based on the Scott Pilgrim film, which is based on the comic series, which riffs on (and is pretty much based on) popular culture and littered with many game references; don’t you just love a good old full circle?

This game takes cues from the old side-scrolling beat ’em-ups of yesteryear (such as my favourite, Streets of Rage) and restyles it all with a slice of Scott Pilgrim inanity, as well as reaching the heady heights of 8bit graphics! Don’t worry though; it’s all intentional, and the graphical style is very much part of the game’s charms.

Moving on, yesterday we released the first add-on content pack for Red Dead Redemption. Legends And Killers adds new multiplayer elements, such as additional characters and the new tomahawk weapon, and for those of you looking to add some fresh content to your online gunslinging, now’s your chance.

There’s a few titles released for your PSP this week too, and leading the charge is the first in the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series, so get prepared to finely hone those demon collection skills, in this renowned RPG.

The final piece of content I want to highlight is the demo for Mafia II. I managed to spend some time with the team at 2K last week and get my hands on the demo, and had a jolly old time. I played the same demo you’ll all be able to get your hands on today, so I won’t say anything else in case I spoil it, but let me say this – you’ll have a ten minute countdown of free-roam before you have to reach the mission checkpoint, so make the most of cruising round and seeing how much chaos you can cause

Okay, that’s enough of me, now to the matter at hand… the full list. Enjoy!

Have a good week, and I’ll be sure to speak to as many of you as possible in the comments below.

Looks an okay list this week.

Persona? PERSONA?! Best update ever :D

And if enough people buy this here’s hoping that the publisher will release the rest of the series too ;)

James Gallagher 11 August, 2010 @ 13:17

Boom! There’s goes my morning/evening read for the next month.

That Scott Pilgrim games looks like fun.

It really is good fun, grab a friend – or three- and settle in for some great local multiplayer :)

wow £2.69 for south park dynamic theme are you kidding me thats a disgrace

Londons-Fiinest 11 August, 2010 @ 13:02

Mightview the kane and lynch video but thats it for me.

still no bleach or naruto games for psp

South Park Dynamic Theme only available in France, Germany, Spain and UK no Portugal :(

Any news of bringing PS Store to new countries like Hungary, Slovakia, … ?

Holy hell is that Persona 3, the US game I just spent £30 importing and still hasn’t arrived? Or the first Persona?

It’s the first Persona.

addyjones1234 11 August, 2010 @ 13:03

Scott Pilgrim for me :D

Again, no demo for Scott Pilgrim but US got it. It’s Deathspank all over again.

Welcome Back Mike, hope you enjoyed your holidays and its great to have you back

Lets hope you have a better publish than last week ;)

I did enjoy my time off thanks, I actually had a week without even thinking about work…was very refreshing :) But it’s also great to be back, so let’s get it on ;)

Nothing other than the Mafia 2 Demo for me, which I already got in PlayStation Plus yesterday. So basically, there’s nothing for me. :P

Although Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World looks brilliant, I will give the trial version a go before I decide to buy it or not. :D

Thanks anyway Mike!

JordanBlack68 11 August, 2010 @ 13:04

Usual no PS+ content.

There is actually something coming, I’m going to update the post shortly.

cool will be downloading the dc universe demos and scott pilgrim trial.

usual 3pm update?

also can plus subscribers get in the kilzone 3 beta pretty please?

Scoot Pilgrim?

James Gallagher 11 August, 2010 @ 13:18

Fixed – that was my bad.

BrutalGreenEnvy 11 August, 2010 @ 13:05

Nice to have ya back Mike =))
So happee to have some more Dragon Age DLC, Scott PIlgrim shall be picked up too . . . think I may also have lost the other half to the Persona PSP game, so er yea, thanks for that also =P

Glad to be back.

Seems like a good week for yourself then content wise :)

Mike! I love you *Launches himself at hime for a kiss*

*Realises thats against his manhood* D:

Anyways, Scott Pilgrim YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!1111!!!11!!!111!!!! :D

I loved the graphic novels and jsut can’t wait for the film ^_^

Do want the update now, can’t wait to play Scott with my friends – 4 player co-op ftw!

I downloaded the RDR DLC and Mafia II demo yesterday already, I didn’t like the Scott Pilgrim demo so I am not going to buy that game

Who’s Scoot Pilgrim? :)

Shall be getting the game, good update.

This has been asked on previous weeks, but I’d like to know when we’ll have the Super Street Fighter IV avatars. We have been waiting this since July, and still nothing, and the US store has many of them.

They are coming, I promise.

No PS1 classics :(
No avatars either :(

I want Ross back!!

Ah yes, magic Ross and his ability to pluck content from thin air ;)

You can’t have him back, he’s back in his cage.

Will mgs peace walker ever get a price reduction. Pspgo fail…!

Hell-Raiser-85 11 August, 2010 @ 13:06

Scott Pilgrim for me. Please give as a release date for Castle Crashers. Any way nice update. Thanks Mike

like the way you totally brush past fact that south park dynamic theme is £2.69 . care to tell us why its priced so high ?

Because that’s the pricing set by the guys who made it…i.e. the Video Store team.

YES!!!! PERSONA!!!! I (DELETED) LOVE YOU SONY! (And it isn’t even been released in physical stores in Europe).

And also Playenglish for Spain.

no Naughty Bear Add-On because Us Store have this :(

Neo-Renzokuken 11 August, 2010 @ 13:06

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, wasn’t expececting that, must get this :D

So when can we expect Persona 3 Portable?

No trial for Scott Pilgrim? Only RDR DLC for me this week then.
Any word on the upcoming Split/Second DLC? Game update last night so next week perhaps?

It’s a trial and unlock, it does state that in the content list ;)

Might get Scott Pilgrim, not read the comics but depesperatly want to see the movie.

and Mike, any news on Castle Crashers? Any comment at all, even just to know its still making good progress though the submission process =]

Castle Crashers is indeed in the pipeline.

Nothing for me this week…

Any news on getting the classic Tomb Raiders?

Hi Mike, good to see you back, also thanks for answering my questions a couple of weeks ago.
South Park theme sounds cool.

If you don’t mind, one more question….

The show “The Tester” was on the US PSN recently, I’ve seen some clips on youtube and it seems cool, any chance we can get it? Also a very cool looking God of War documentary on the actual Greek myths, seems cool…

We won’t be getting The Tester no, it was created for the US store only.

It’s the update of the original SMT:Persona game..which is about as far away from P3P as you can get. It’s a first person dungeon crawler, but it’s nice to see the game come over here. Hopefully that means Atlus is starting to take notice…two years later.
Scott Pilgrim for me me thinks, though probably too busy playing Blazblue: CS.

Wasnt there meant to be a demo for Scott Pilgrim?

It’s a trial and unlock, so yes there is a demo and the full game upgrade available ;)

Where is the Valkyria Chronicles 2 demo?!!!!!!!!! I am disappointed :(

Will we get the demo next week?

Dragon Age DLC for me!!! Yay! Can’t get enough of this game…but still won’t pay the price for Awakening. Too dear!

Any knowledge on a discount coming for it, since Xbox just slashed the price?

Also, Scott Pilgrim ROCKS!

Not much for me today! A few videos and a theme maybe. Got Mafia 2 and RDR DLC yesterday… Cant wait for my Mafia 2 Nordic Edition ;-)

joshualeuty96 11 August, 2010 @ 13:08

Nothing for me this Week!

This has been bugging me for ages but is there any chance of a WipEout HD Demo as i’m looking to buy the full game and i’m unsure whether its worth £18.

I was wondering why when I looked for Persona 3 Portable on the PEGI website I found the original Persona on the PSP instead. Well see you guys in July 2011 for Persona 3 Portable.

Scott Pilgrim for me, but I hate that the price is the same in EU & US. Ten dollar isn’t ten euro.

JordanBlack68 11 August, 2010 @ 13:08

There is actually something coming, I’m going to update the post shortly.

nemesisND1derboy 11 August, 2010 @ 13:08

Mike do you know if there are any plans to bring Iron Maiden’s new album to the PS Store for Rock Band? I might actually pick up Scott Pilgrim, it looks pretty good.

Mike, who is the game’s publisher here in PAL territories?

Anyway.. I’ll give a try to Mafia II and Scott Pilgrim. :)

Atlus are the guys responsible for publishing here :)

When will Castle Crashers appear in the store?

nemesisND1derboy 11 August, 2010 @ 13:09

Oh and James, if you are there, why is my avatar different on the blog to the one I’m using on PSN at the moment?

In the dutch (Netherlands) store we’re missing the “Worms: battle island” demo and “Flatout: head on” for psp (which are available on every other eu store it seems). I am desperate to try worms and buy flatout (since we do in fact have the demo for download). Any help would be apreciated, I really hope you can as the dutch support seems totally unable to do so – telling me to e-mail publishers.

On an even more selfish note – still hoping on a price drop for chinatown wars…

They weren’t submitted for release in your store I’m afraid, sorry.

No Naughty Bear DLC, no Trinity Universe DLC :(

Curious to see what PSN+ content there will be.

Awesome update this week Mike, Hope you enjoyed your time off. I’ve been getting my Mike time through Mike Thorton in Alpha Protocol, he isnt quite as good as you but mine somehow looks like Nathan Drake a bit xD

take it easy mate and enjoy that cupcake, my lady made it specially ;)

I loved playing that game, as I felt everybody was addressing me personally. I think it’s also fair to say I deluded myself to think they based the character on me, and life events too :P

Scott Pilgrim is a must, but it’s hilarious to see the EU store finally gets Persona 1, while the US store got Persona 3 months ago.

The EU store operates in some sort of crazy time warp. It’s 2010 in the US, but here in Europe, we’re rocking it 2007 style!

Persona 3 is not available anywhere in the EU at the moment, so it’s not a surprise that we don’t have it on the store yet.

And there’s nothing wrong with rocking a 2007 style either :D
