DCUO Beta-Ending Event – “Battle Of The Legends”

Tomorrow, Thursday 6th January, will be the last day of the DCUO Beta in Europe.

To celebrate – SOE are planning to re-create “The Battle of the Legends” in-game – an epic showdown in the spirit of the DCUO trailer “Who do you trust?” (click on the below video if you haven’t seen this DC battle royale).

Beta players can align and fight alongside or against some of DC Comics’ most notorious superheroes and villains including, Batman, Superman, Lex Luthor and The Joker.

To take part, just show up when the battle erupts on your server. Check the schedule below and don’t miss your chance to become part of the “Battle of the Legends”

Server Name / Date / Time / Location
EU PS3 BETA 1 / Thursday January 6 / 11AM CT or 5PM GMT / Botanical Gardens (Batman vs. Joker) or Centennial Park (Superman vs. Lex)
EU PS3 BETA 2 / Thursday January 6 / 12 NOON CT or 6PM GMT

If for some reason you can’t attend, have no fear – we will update you with the status of each battle on the DCUO Facebook site at Facebook.com/DCUniverseOnline. We plan to have streaming video of the event, screens and updates.

Also, if you’re playing on the PC Beta, check out the Facebook page above for additional info on how the “Battle of the Legends” will work for you.

One important thing to be aware of, when it’s over…so is the DCUO Beta! (Each server will shut down at the end of the event.)

DC Universe Online releases across Europe from 12th January 2011 on PS3 and PC.

The Next Legend Is You.

looks like i am going to skip it after all, subscriptions and the fact that the game feels like its not (finished) ready to be released yet puts me off…

Really you couldn’t have done it any later :s most people finish work after 5pm. This sucks I have been enjoying the beta even with the issues and I have my pre-order ready but I can’t participate in this due to stupid times. Wouldn’t it have been better to say 7pm and 8pm?

No lifetime sub for PS3 like PC has means no sale. Equal treatment please. Though by the time you do this for PS3 all the good names for characters will be taken, sucking a good amount of the fun out of making your own.

Hmm, I might be picking it up IF m SOE allaccess covers the game, not else, it fealt like it was missing something, atleast from my time trying it.

Man, I love end of world events. Great work on the game, SOE. Looking forward to seeing how the beta ends.

Why are you strangely giving a central US time reference, alongside the EU GMT time zone, for the EU’s beta? That – well, it brings to attention… oh. ok… From the outside, looking in, so to speak, the people behind this have made some strange decisions, so far, regarding aiding the attractiveness of the game.

I’m most suspicious, personally, of the predominately US focus of the IP, and my concern would be there, that support/updates might first go to the US, with some non-commital timeframe then given, for the EU version. The pattern then escalates, until they’re two noticably different experiences, despite everyone payng a same value in sub. It brings back shades of RF Online, from Codies. Which, at least there, I didn’t need to pay to enjoy the game.

Seeing as this is the start of a new endeavour for PS3, can you offer any reassurance, simply, that both continent’s player-bases are equally valued, and views counted as equal?

I’m working 3.30pm til 9.00pm so I’ll miss it. Shame.

Why do they need to charge a monthly fee for games like this….. surely £39 – £45 for game plus charging for download content would cover there costs!!!!!

Didn’t even get to finish the download it was FAR to big! Oh well I guess

I had to download it twice as first one was “corrupted”.
Second download just kept freezing as bad as the first, but never had corrupted message.
Intro looked cool as hell, but I never got out of the first room.
Oh well 30+GB wasted.

Subscription gaming = NO THANKS.

I’m someone who plays a LOT of games… I must have about 80 bought PS3 games now, not including the many many MANY games I’ve bought off PSN… but I will NEVER subscribe to play a game.

NEVER.

This model should and must fail. I’m sorry to say that but I want to pay for my game once, and I’ll buy any DECENT DLC for it, but pay just to play month by month?

NO THANKS.

@ CinderShadow. Because we whom thankfully dont live in USA dont count. Look at how nearly everyfranchise is set in America(Rockstar games anyone?)and if it’s not, its set in an unaccessable ruin or jungle or yawnsuch. Lets face it, everything is centred around marketing to the US, as if we are clones of that, to the good old land of the “free”(meanwhile 2 million americans are either locked up or on parole, not to mention the nefarious illegal acts its govt makes and the lies NASA expends to keep secret its discoveries on Mars, and we have most of our gms based on this culture). Im getting off subject. Im not paying NZ$130 just to have to watch a dl’ screen for hours. & I’d rather subscribe to knitting bi-monthly.

How can a game with such amazingly put together scenes like this fail so bad? The gameplay is slow, repetitive and damn right boring, and subscription gaming, I played WoW for months but that seemed worth it atleast, this does not.

the setting of the game isn’t a problem, most of the dc comics stuff is set in the us anyway, it’s the way soe are handling the game in europe.

despite the extra two months the delay brought them they still did not either manage or bother to set up any preorder deals with any eu retailers, which means the playable batman avatar might forever be restricted to americans, they stated the only way you’ll unlock batman is by preordering.

there’s also the other preorder bonus items, all of which were announced on the blog right here, and despite repeated questions we were never given an answer, soe don’t care, the same questions on the official forums were always ignored too.

then there’s the lack of collectors edition outside the us, and maybe canada.

my big worry for this game is soe will handle it like they did their last big console mmo, that being everquest online adventures, they shut the eu servers down for that one years before the ps3 launched, they’re still running in the us tho...

my big worry for this game is soe will handle it like they did their last big console mmo, that being everquest online adventures, they shut the eu servers down for that one years before the ps3 launched, they’re still running in the us though, and here’s the real kicker, they left the game on sale even after they turned off the servers, they are so ignorant or uncaring about europe that they were happy to let people buy a game they could never play.

Wow tough crowd! Sounds like Elliott Linger has his work cut out for him in order to win over the European gamers.

To be fair both DC and Marvel are US IPs, so there will be more of a US slant in their content and outlook. I’m aware that Europe has tonnes of comic IPs, but am ignorant when it comes to European super hero culture. Can anyone post a link to info about European super heroes in comics.

don’t get me wrong, i think the game is great, but i will drop it in a second if i feel europe is going to get shafted by soe yet again.

and i won’t be alone.

oh, and i don’t blame elliot for this, this comes from soe, they probably ignored elliot’s questions about this as much as they ignored ours.

i don’t think many people care that the game is set in the us, only that the developers and/or publishers only seem to care about the us players, it already started with europe getting patches much later than the us.

That film is phenomenal!
Much higher stock than the standard cgi cut-scenes. It’s great to see all these DC legends bought to life, and the twist that it is arch-villain Lex Luthor asking the heroes to save humanity. I’d love to see a full length movie like that. I guess I have to buy the game!

The game is kinda boring and such, but it was awesome deleting it!:) Never deleted 17 GB at the same time beforexD

The beta is much improved today than it was on day one. And I speak as someone who got to play both regions so saw the beta in it’s Inception phase. There are a few niggles to iron out but the beta is the PC version running for PS3 whereas the retail version will be tailored to the console.

I like the user who mentioned all the good names will be taken by the time they get to play it. I guess the same could be said for the PSN but people still manage to find unique ways to express their identitys.

As with previous posts, I shall state that I’m giving DCU:O the 30 day trial plus month 1 of paid service to see if I take to our actual version. I’ve no qualms paying subs. I can afford it and the P2P model is standard for MMO’s. Might wanna get used to it before Free Realms and The Agency roll out to a resounding amount of whining from those a little more thrifty than others.

Good luck with DCU:O, Elliot. You WILL need it.

:( i never took part i couldn’t find superman or friging Batman couldn’t read clear what the messages says on My SD telly it Not SD friendly BO is alright on SD.

I attempted to join in last night at about 7:30pm in the hope it was still on.

I noted that PLUS had downloaded an update that very morning so I was hoping for a win.

Sadly it wanted to download ANOTHER 3.5GB update so I just gave up, deleted it and put DCUO on the pile of broken promises and shattered dreams that I have built up over the years thanks to living in the EU and having to put up with SCEE.

Great trailer.

Exceptionally poor game.

Won’t ever pay to play.

This game is going to fail…HARD.

the beta always stalled on me after 2-3 mins of play i never got past the first 5 gaurds in the tutorial section, yes i reinstalled twice, always got the updates but it never worked for me, lame, Jonno.

@Bumblebee Have heard of a little game called World of Warcraft? The subscription model seems to be working quite well for them. Something tells me it won’t be going away any time soon…

We close the comments for posts after 30 days.
