Killzone 3 Open Beta Coming To The PSN On The 3rd Of Feb

It’s Friday and it is a good news day! Between the 3rd and the 15th of Feb you will be able to download and play the Killzone 3 Open Beta from the PlayStation Store.

This Beta will offer you exclusive early access to the MP05 ‘Frozen Dam’ multiplayer level from Killzone 3, including all three online multiplayer modes – Guerrilla Warfare, Warzone and Operations – as well as the offline multiplayer mode, Botzone. A sprawling asymmetrical map set in an old dam facility, the playing field in MP05 has been carefully tailored to fit each of the multiplayer modes.

These are the four multiplayer modes included with the Open Beta:

Guerrilla Warfare (16 players)
Guerrilla Warfare is a standalone multiplayer mode similar to classic Team Deathmatch: You and your teammates must try to kill as many of the opposing team as you can before the timer runs out. In this mode, only the downstream monitor houses and repair bay are accessible, giving the map a very frantic pace.

Warzone (24 players)
If you’ve played Killzone 2, you may already be familiar with Warzone. It’s a round-based multiplayer campaign that consists of five randomly ordered mini-missions. In this mode the power house and penstocks directly under the dam are accessible as well, so there’s more room to come up with different strategies and approaches to your goal.

Operations (16 players)
Operations is a new multiplayer campaign which aims to deliver a more cinematic, story-based gameplay experience, similar to that of Killzone 3’s single-player mode. It consists of a sequence of linear mini-missions, in which the ISA must try to secure the docks and destroy the dam, while the Helghast must try to protect the dam facility.

Botzone (one player and up to 15 bots)
Botzone is an offline multiplayer mode ideal for those looking to get to grips with the controls, the weapons or the map layout before going up against live players. Each of the aforementioned multiplayer modes can be played offline, against CPU-controlled opponents.

For details of all the maps in Killzone 3 see our feature on

Over the next couple of weeks keep your eyes on the PlayStation Blog and for more information.

Have a good weekend.

Did you enjoy this?

Will the Open Beta support PlayStation Move? Just wondering as I know the Closed Beta didn’t.

Hyperguy20 21 January, 2011 @ 5:29 pm   10

It’s not an open beta if the game has already gone gold you fools.

Excellent.. Looking forward to trying this out.

ninja_tom 21 January, 2011 @ 5:33 pm   12

Can you confirm that this is truly an open beta and not restricted to plus subscribers?

Looks really exciting!

pokrytysniegiem 21 January, 2011 @ 5:38 pm   13

YES!!! THX Guerrilla Games!

Hello Guerilla Games!

I’ve already emailed you, twitted to official twitter of killzone, written on facebook’s wall of killzone, yet I have never get a reply about when are the pre-orders are starting to come!

I know that I will not get the helghast Edition since only ships to United Kingdom and it is an Hmv exclusive but as you posted on twitter 3 days agon, on January 18:

mattyd128 Gamedigital SuicidalSteve We’ll look into this on our end as well. The preorder page is to be updated today.”

I still don’t see it updated, and also I didn’t pre-order the game already because I know that if you did before the offers are available you won’t get the bonus, also I want to know the retailers which codes are being offered , which retailers have double xp for 24 hours or 3 unlock points, etc…

So I just want to know when does the pre-orders page is updated because it was to be updated 3 days ago.

Thanks and good work

NICE! thank u so much. this is great

I think its better to call it a open beta the a demo as some above have. This is clearly a chance to test the servers as much as possible before and therefore clearly is a beta!!

The game my have gone gold but that doesnt mean the code used in the open beta will be.

The word beta means the code is unfinished and not the final product, therefore if they have any issues during this time you have been told the code isnt final.

almighty-slayer 21 January, 2011 @ 5:56 pm   17

If it supports Move, i’ll download it. If not i won’t bother.

PS3 = 2 MUCH 2 PLAY! ! ! 😛

Konrad512 21 January, 2011 @ 6:11 pm   19

Will there be a SP demo? And is there any chance that KZ3 in Europe will come with a code for the SOCOM 4 beta?

2# Their is a reason why it’s called a BETA. – – –

17# Read the text again 🙂

TwistedALiEN 21 January, 2011 @ 6:30 pm   21

Nice, it does supports PS Move and 3D in the open demo 🙂

With the game gone gold this is the final build that will be on the disc.

Big_Boss_001 21 January, 2011 @ 6:48 pm   23

Very nice. Just a quick question, will this be a newer build compared to the build which was PS Plus Exclusive?

KillerStefan15 21 January, 2011 @ 6:52 pm   24

That is good news!

hollandnigel 21 January, 2011 @ 7:14 pm   25

Excellent! Can’t wait to try it! Will there be Move support?

just read the previous pst after writing this
#9… I see you asked about move already….
#20… read it again, still see no mention of Move
#21… how do you know? CAn’t see move or 3D mentioned anywhere!!

Looking forward to trying it, just wish I had a sharp shooter to try too!

Post on the US blog says it will have Move and 3D support.

Cool, i’m actually more interested in the campaign/story but i just might check out this beta build for a taster before the full release! 🙂

RandomDemonGear 21 January, 2011 @ 10:00 pm   28

Thank you LORD for meeting my gaming need!!!!

carlosdfn 21 January, 2011 @ 10:02 pm   29

Move support! I can’t wait to try it.

PartyPooper_81 21 January, 2011 @ 10:39 pm   30

Great news!! Looking forward to this one for a long time!!

twistedintoform 21 January, 2011 @ 11:04 pm   31

hmm.. great, so i see certain feedback from the closed beta has been ignored. :-/

only 8 maps?. i was hoping for more to honest.. yes, i pre-ordered the collector’s edition so i will get the KZ2 retro map-pack, but i’ve already played all those 14 (including the 6 dlc) maps many many times. in fact i am only interested in warzone (which is only on 7 of the maps) and operations (which is only on 2 of the maps!). i really hope you’re going to open more of the maps to operations mode, as it feels somewhat like bad company’s rush mode, which is one of the best FPS multiplayer modes out there next to warzone (which has been narfed compared to how it was in KZ2).

So i can download-it with-out the plus membership?

PlayerUMD 22 January, 2011 @ 1:08 am   33

This is excellent news!

I will be waiting for this very patiently.

Would be better also to release a KillZone 3 demo for all so no one would be left out if they came late.

ShadowDoGGG 22 January, 2011 @ 2:58 am   34

lol I think most plus members are bored of this now. Maybe thats why opening up to you guys 😉

funky_ole 23 January, 2011 @ 12:59 pm   35

Is this only for PS plus users??

shapperd-sg2030 24 January, 2011 @ 10:40 am   36

John_Oval 24 January, 2011 @ 2:21 pm   37

@23, I believe it is final build, they are testing out the servers or whatnot, if its not final its definitely higher than the pre-alpa for the beta

willows259 2 February, 2011 @ 3:18 am   38

Lets hope its better then the 2nd multiplayer version yeh ?

i hope the killzone 3 beta is free and not a plus exclusive the yanks got hit with that….is it available to non plus users i feel misled as many gaming sites its an open beta!

oh and speedball 2 the trailers out on you tube but missing on the site!

hollandnigel 3 February, 2011 @ 11:49 am   41
