Introducing The Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack!

Ever find yourself longing for the good old days of the year 2359, when the invasion of Helghan had just gotten underway and you were fighting a desperate bloody battle over every inch of its capital city? That’s perfectly understandable – why, we all do sometimes. But now there’s the Killzone 3 Retro Map Pack, which lets you relive those glorious multiplayer battles in the market streets and canals of Pyrrhus!

The Retro Map Pack can be purchased from the PlayStation Network, however as we announced last January, the Retro Map Pack is available for FREE to anyone who pre-orders either the Killzone 3 standard or Helghast Editions at participating retailers.

The Retro Map Pack consists of two classic Killzone 2 multiplayer maps, thoroughly updated and reworked for Killzone 3’s multiplayer mode. Check out the details below:

Salamun Market

Game Type: Warzone – 24 Players
Description:
One of the largest maps from Killzone 2, Salamun Market has been re-balanced for maximum Killzone 3 carnage. After the Helghast ambush an ISA convoy on its main road, the whole market becomes a Warzone. Nostalgia meets brand-new Exoskeleton combat on this classic multiplayer map!

Killzone 3 - Salamun Market 1 Killzone 3 - Salamun Market 2

Blood Gracht

Game Type: Guerrilla Warfare – 16 Players
Description:
Months after the nuclear blast that ruined most of the city, Blood Gracht is slowly being reclaimed by Helghan’s strange plant life. But when Guerrilla Warfare breaks out between ISA and Helghast troops, the canals once again run red with blood. The fan-favorite multiplayer map from Killzone 2 makes a triumphant return!

Killzone 3 - Blood Gracht 1 Killzone 3 - Blood Gracht 2

If you haven’t played Killzone 2 yet, or if an old war injury prevents you from remembering what Salamun Market and Blood Gracht originally looked like (again – we’ve all been there), a comparison video of the old and the new versions of the maps will be posted here in a few days.

For now, enjoy reminiscing while you look at the screenshots, and remember to pre-order Killzone 3 to get the Retro Map Pack for FREE.

Looks great!
Blood Gracht was my favourite map and Salamun Market was definitely up there. Might have preferred Radec Academy to it, but you can’t have everything.

Looks fantastic, but when are you going to announce where we can get the Steelbook limited edition from? I know it’s available at Game in the UK but is that the only place?

Nice.. the fact that they are free is even better.. I was wondering what the added bonus voucher was.. I saw it added to my order today.. :D

Could you list all UK retailers on the blog that have this offer, i tried following your link to the killzone 3 site but was unable to find it

Hmm..will there be a Retro^2 pack containing Beach Head and the other red-ish one with the nuke (can’t remember the name at his time)from KZ1?

I know it’s unlikely to happen but I bought all the KZ2 map packs and I’d love to be able to get some more out of them in KZ3. So much effort went into making them, seems like a waste to leave them out.

The Steel Book Edition from GAME comes with the map pack.

Correct me if I am wrong..

AE, AU, GB, IE, NZ

Does this mean it is only for these countries?

Blood Gracht is my favourite but it’s only available for Guerrilla Warfare :O That’s a mighty shame as there was nothing better than a nice long game of Warzone on Blood in Killzone 2 :(

OK I’ve looked here and on the Killzone site, but not seen which retailers allow this pre-order offer. I pre-ordered through Amazon.co.uk, are they part of the “selected retailers”?

Is the Game and Gamestation network of stores going to be the only place in the UK to get the Steelbook and the extra maps? (Excluding the HMV Helghast Edition).
Also, what is included within the KZ3 + Jungle Green DS3 bundle? Is that the Steelbook or the plain edition of the game? Even if it’s the plain game, will that contain the Retro maps?

I love collectors editions for my favourite franchises, so I can’t help but be frustrated when I can’t pre-order them more than a week before release because I simply can’t discover who, what, where, when and how I’m supposed to buy them!

GG can you please tell me if this game has xmb status updates like CoD:BLOPS? this is a very important feature that helps you jump online quickly with friends.

I pre ordered this a few weeks back in HMV Ireland. Is HMV included into this deal because they get the Helgaust edition exclusively?

Game not even out yet and you already have DLC.

one more retro pack…pleas :)

at least one of the maps (blood gracht) that i really wanted is here. salamun wouldn’t have been my second choice but it could have been worse (*cough* pyrrhus rise *cough*). but really.. team deathmatch only?. hallo.. 2011 is calling. any decent FPS has multiple modes for its maps. i get one of my preferred maps for a mode i don’t like and will barely ever play. how much will the pack be on the store?. i pre-order the collector’s edition for it, but the extra cose does not seem worth it. we already know from KZ2 that blood gracht is more than capable of warzone, and it would have been nice to get operations as well on the retro pack, as that would have been something really different for these maps. not unless you’re planning on pulling a bad company 2 and ‘unlocking’ the modes on all maps over time.

They aint free if you preorder it, why do people think that they are?

Sorry,should be on the disk.

@Clxmj

can you read? this is why!

The Retro Map Pack can be purchased from the PlayStation Network, however as we announced last January, the Retro Map Pack is available for FREE to anyone who pre-orders either the Killzone 3 standard or Helghast Editions at participating retailers.

Sony /GG Please can you update the participating retailers ? There is alot of confusion here and other game forums. When you click the link (for UK atleast – dont know about other countries) It just says the only participating retailer is HMV and that it is only for the Helghast £99 edition.
Could you confirm if this is the only edition and retailer that does the retro bonus, or, if there are other retailers and other editions, can you let us know who they are, or update the links as when you click the other editons it just says “coming soon” and from what I have read on the KZ3 forums this has been like this for some time…

Thanks !

@MrLopes

Yes, but it’s not “free” as such, because you pay more for the Collectors edition – but then, you do get other things with it as well. I think that’s the point Clxmj was trying to make. ;)

Not the two I would have chosen.

I paid £14.97 for the three Killzone 2 DLC Map Packs and rarely got the opportunity to play them due to the lack of players. The amount of people who preorder from those select retailers can’t be that many, so it will happen again.

Asking the core Killzone 2 supports to make this same mistake again. It would have been a nice gesture to throw them in for people who own the previous complete set.

Another thing, where the hell is our competition? The U.S blog has a Helghast Edition giveaway for those who play the open beta for the next 3 days. What does Europe get, where the actual game is developed? Nothing.

@wyverex

Well you have to pay for the game anyway right if they ad this or not.
I see this as a bonus because it gets added for pre-orders.

This is something developers need to do more of offer free content if you decide early to buy the game.

Yes! My favourite 2 maps of Killzone 2 coming to Killzone 3! Thanks you Guerrilla!

One other thing, can you confirm if the 24 hour unlock of weapons and double exp is for 24 hours realtime or in game time as again there is conflicting information. I have read a dev post saying it is real time and apparently on the PS blog it says game time :-S
If it is game time then I wont bother, I loved KZ2 but giving people unfair advantage just because they paid more or bought a certain version is stupid, like buying cars and upgrades on PSN for NFS

I’m having a problem in my KZ3 multiplayer open beta, it is allways giving me some kind of error! My name is Pedro Botelho and Roneberg is my PSNid, what’s the problem? please help!

Meh jut must make it FREE to anyone otherwise not everyone will be able to play it. Keep pre-order rubbish for sculptures or single player features.

I think where it says ‘Standard or Helghast editions’, it should be ‘Collector or Helghast editions’.

you can pre-order the steelbook collector’s edition (which contains a network code to download the retro map-pack) with game either in store or online. as far as i know, there are no UK retailers giving a free retro map-pack with the standard edition.

with generic matchmaking insteading of the server/game select that kz2 had, if somebody in the lobby doesn’t have one of these maps, it’ll not come up in the rotation. that’s kind of annoying if you’ve paid money/extra for it and barely get to play it. at least in KZ2 you could see which game servers had the DLC maps in their rotation. though after a month or so, even they were hard to find. since the KZ2 maps allegedly run in the KZ3 engine (with 50% processing to spare too boot), allowing KZ2 users who bought the previous DLC to import/use it as is would have been a great gesture.

Collectors edition, includes more good stuff on top of it.
Gamemania for the Dutch people here ( and prolly Belgium not sure though ),
u can get kz3 dynamic theme, psn voucher for ingame bonuses,OST,metal casing, and retro mappack
for € 65 :D.. SWEET deal if u ask me…

Killzone 3 looks great.

But what I really want to know from Sony is; did they just put a root kit onto my PS3 to track the games I’m playing and media I’m watching with their last firmware update, as is being reported on several websites now?

There is already talk of lawsuits, if this is the case, as happened with the whole audio CD’s/DRM issue a few years ago.

so, i dunno if i should cancel my pre-order for the standard edition i have at Game and pre-order it at play if thats gonna blag me the retro maps for free…..?. can someone please explain as theres no mention of free maps on the play web site for pre-ordering the standard edition from them……tbh, why the hell they just couldnt have put the maps on EVERY disc for everyone is beyond me…..

It really needs to be addressed if the original post actually means the collectors edition or not, as the websites listed on killzone.com for the standard edition do not mention anything about this Retro Map Pack being received just for pre-ordering.

Also, is there seriously going to be no bundle of the Sharp Shooter with this? They’ll bundle a stupid half green controller but not the accessory designed around this and one other game? Brilliant.

Salamun Market is a great. Though I’m just glad you didn’t use Radec academy, that was awful.

it doesn’t. play are always up-front with pre-order bonuses. besides if it was given away free with regular versions there’d be less incentive for people to order the more expensive versions. i’d stick with the order from game or get it from shopto (where it’s a couple of quid cheaper), as both usually ship on the wednesday before release date, so good chance you’ll get it the day before release.

retro? make a map pack on 32 bit and we’ll talk…

Please clarify whether the standard edition comes with the DLC maps or not. Because this will decide whether A) I Buy the game B) Whether I buy it new.

>>>> as far as i know, there are no UK retailers giving a free retro map-pack with the standard edition.

There isn’t. So why are we getting f’ed over like this here in the UK? I’m sick of all this pre-order from certain retailers to get certain bonuses crap. It’s a joke. Dev’s and publishers need to **** off with it.

”The Retro Map Pack can be purchased from the PlayStation Network, however as we announced last January, the Retro Map Pack is available for FREE to anyone who pre-orders either the Killzone 3 standard or Helghast Editions at participating retailers.”

That must be a mistake as the maps don’t come with the standard edition.
