Greetings Gamocrats,
Thank you all for your AWESOME contributions. We should confess that we were a bit worried about how this bold project would play out… all worries are now gone. The community overwhelmed us with great and original ideas and, no matter what contribution wins this weekend, we are confident that we will make a great game together. You really managed to raise the bar for us and we will now work twice as hard for you all. It is evident that we are not the only ones out there with a true passion for making games: once again thank you all.
We will post one of these dev diaries every week to keep everyone updated on the progress. We will post screenshots/videos and discuss potential problems we have been wrestling during the week. Since this was the first week and we don’t have our hero yet, there has not been much work done on the actual game. We have mostly been reading up on the forums and trying to respond to as many as possible. We have also been preparing for GDC in San Francisco next week where we will do everything we can to showcase Gamocracy :)
Now let’s see what The Bearded Ladies have to say about this week:
There should be a rule that all art should be made in MS Paint… some of you are trying to put me out of a job!
We also like to show you our first runnable version of the game engine. This is what the game looks like now, before a single piece of your great concepts have been added to it. It is a simple 2D engine with a few layers of graphics and some basic collision detection. It will be great to look back at this in a few months and see what we have achieved together.
As you can see, our mission is far from over and we need to keep rolling to make our game in time. We have two tasks ahead of us this week. The first one is to choose our protagonist and get a first glimpse at where this is heading. Tonight we will post the final candidates from week one on the Bearded Ladies facebook page.
We don’t want this to become a battle of who has the most friends on facebook, so we would urge you all to spread the news about the vote far and wide. Simply vote on the contribution that you think will make the best game and the contribution that you would like to continue working on.
The second task this week is the “War of the Worlds” challenge. For more information about this and to get your ideas in, check out your local forum post: English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Polish, Scandinavian languages.
