Three Games for the Launch of the PlayStation Network Import Section

Japanese retro fans, get ready! You are about to be immersed in a sea of PS one Japanese gems that never made it to European shores. MonkeyPaw Games is proud to announce the release of the first three titles to the all new PlayStation Network Import section. We will feature direct-from-Japan PS one imports and Classics, including infamous shooter Cho Aniki and the super smooth Arcade Hits: Sonic Wings Special. These shooters have been imported in their original Japanese form. Help can be found at

MonkeyPaw Games is also proud to release the first game in the Arc the Lad series, one of the longest-selling RPGs of the PS one era. This classic is in English only and will be the start of many RPGs to come to the PlayStation Network Classic section. Join us as we bring you a taste of Japanese gaming that you’ve never experienced.

Relive the Origins of Tactical RPGs with Arc the Lad.

Japanese RPGs are on a level by themselves. One that is sure to steal your sleep is Arc the Lad. The game stormed onto the RPG scene with a compelling world that served as a prologue to one of the longest-running tactical RPG series in history. Arc the Lad, Arc the Lad II, Arc Arena: Monster Tournament and Arc the Lad III will all be coming to the PlayStation Network.

To this day, many of your favorite RPG features were first displayed in this epic series. Arc the Lad introduced gameplay fideas like jumping and body blocking that extended the tactical strategy element.
Players follow the young adventurer Arc, set to save a world teetering on the edge of oblivion. Seven different party members will join the quest, each one bursting with dozens of hand-drawn frames of animation that immerse players in a surreal fantasy landscape.
Further enhancing the game’s presentation is an epic soundtrack. Players can also choose to plumb the depths of an optional 50-level dungeon that, if conquered, will influence future events in Arc the Lad II, unlocking a key character and a separate side quest.

Cho Aniki reigns down on the PlayStation Network

Just when you thought you’ve seen it all in a video game, now you get a chance to see how wacky the Japanese import world can be. MonkeyPaw Games proudly presents Cho Aniki.

Cho Aniki has been a favorite of those with knowledge of the Japanese domestic game market. This classic icon of the shooter era created a special place as one of the most outrageous titles in the parody shooter legacy. Deemed too daring for Western markets, in reality, the game is a comic display of homo-erotic, over-the-top graphics and Japanese wackiness on every level.

As you blast your way through multitudes of erotic bodybuilders, spinning corpses and head holes, you’ll find humor and challenge in completing every emphatic level. The game consists of an unending spiral of the weird and wonderful.

Cho Aniki is tough and will challenge your shooting skills. But in return, you’ll get a constant flow of humor and irony that will make you laugh as you blast your way through.

Arcade Hits: Sonic Wings Special

The Sonic Wings Special brings you to fore of the great era of Japanese shoot’em-ups. This vertical scroller combines features of previous versions (I-III) and delivers a mind-bending, finger-happy splurge through shooter heaven.

Sonic Wings features 2-player same-screen simultaneous play and a choice of multiple jet fighters. Pick from 7 teams and fourteen pilots flying high in twenty-six different jets. Each captain is detailed out in anime graphics so you get a real feel for your co-pilot. There are 17 stages with multiple paths in which to choose while levels can be randomly served.

Who wouldn’t want to play Captain Blaster Keaton while battling the enemy Fat Morgana? This is a quintessential fighter from a great era of gaming history. Take a spin on your P-61 Black Widow and feel the power of Sonic Wings Special.

rest = not need garbadge .

omg imports finaly start to come out and people are still complaning.

come on what were the odd’s in everything you wanted coming in the first week, also if you dont want to buy the un remastered ps2 games then dont,. the bigger titles will still get the hd treatment.

any way good to see the imports land finally just need xenogears and the maga man games and im good to go

Never liked Japanese games myself but its a nice addition to the PS Library nonetheless.

“MonkeyPaw Games is also proud to release the first game in the Arc the Lad series, one of the longest-selling RPGs of the PS one era. This classic is in English only and will be the start of many RPGs to come to the PlayStation Network Classic section”

So this game will be in English, but the other two won’t? Also, will the import thing only be limited to the japanese versions of the games. Some of them were released in America, so I’d figure it would be easier to use them for the import program, since their in english and doesn’t require you to learn a second language.

Still, it’s a nice idea, and I look forward to see what kind of games you can bring 🙂

Any sign of the resi 2 and 3 games we should have been given as part of plus last month?

2 @ why need old games wen u are abel to play ps3 games ?
other games i play on my ps2

This is excellent news the only problem i have is why can’t you release the games that did make it over to the uk but are not on the ps store eg. Re2 and Re3 aswell’ i can see by this alone that things are starting to get going and SCEE have pulled there finger out getting us these obscure japenese gems so thank you sony.

ps. spyro 1-3 make it happen!!!

I’ll buy Japanese games if you provide translation, this only appeals to anyone who can read Japanese

Yay, Imports! 😀

we are not america and we dont get the same plus content, we were hardly going to get re2 and 3 for free when there not even on the store to buy, people need to lower there expectations a bit when i seen last months us plus post the first thing i thought was we would not get those 2 as there not out over here.

i never said you need to buy them but in your post you said old games = rip off but thats just not true.
remember not everyone has a ps2 or a ps3 with ps2 bc so there will be people out there that welcome these older games so i think the term rip off is a bit much

Shou_Kobayashi 4 October, 2011 @ 12:37 pm   11

I’m happy that the US / JP Import programme is kicking off, though none of these titles interest me.

But, will Monkeypaw directly handle all the imports or is this a “from case to case”-thing?

Another question, which is unortunatelly quite unreleted to this topic. Will Europe also taking part in on the ONLY ON PLAYSTATION series, or is this a thank you for only loyal US customers, while the rest of the world will get a nice “NOT YOUR CANDY!” thrown towards their faces.

JamieDewhirst 4 October, 2011 @ 12:40 pm   12

Yeah, a lot of these import games will be far from a rip off as buying the original release will probably set you back far more than buying it digitally would, and for those of us who like to play, and not collect, our games, it’s a nice system.

sony have said that offer is only for the usa but they have there own plans for us i found the info here

lol at 1.11 onwards in the cho aniki vid whats that coming out between his legs well its a little man lol

Skookie30 4 October, 2011 @ 12:51 pm   15

I never thought i see the day my god what a long road we been down.
finally i can play the games that i never played that i consent moaning to give us imports on the par with SCEA.

so Kudos for All.

while it just the start are we expected to get RE 2/3 and the square enix ones or are you doing the import side of things monkeypaw with SCEE?

so i better tone down my moaning eh 😉

just the PS2 classics & it‘s “imports”

many thanks 🙂

Arc the Lad….

Yes please.

But in all honesty. I like this initiative and I hope to see it turn into something substantial. As opposed to, you know, three games initialy and then one new one per three or four months.

But yay!

GenocideHeart 4 October, 2011 @ 12:54 pm   17

*looks at Cho Aniki*

What… what the hell is this crap? o_O Dammit Japan, just when I thought you couldn’t squick me out any more, you go and pull something like this.

Skookie30 4 October, 2011 @ 1:02 pm   18

@ Rokoth

i don‘t think they do that, I‘m pretty sure they know our feelings about imports. 🙂

I‘m glad too that we getting a risky game more of them please.

the ones with gals are risky but they are others we won’t ever see.

or maybe we can it be certain a BBFC 18/pegi 18

1 game you take photos of gals to WOE them forgot what it called.

windsorblue01 4 October, 2011 @ 1:09 pm   19

i cant believe it people wanted imports you start to get them and your still not happy

Myst3rialP 4 October, 2011 @ 1:11 pm   20

Well, imported Silent Hill and Resident Evil 2&3 would be great.

Skookie30 4 October, 2011 @ 1:12 pm   21

who not happy, did i said i was unhappy.

windsorblue01 4 October, 2011 @ 1:14 pm   22

not you skookie i know better than to comment about you

I won’t say no to Arc the Lad.

As for imports I would love the American version of Suikoden 3.

It was never released in Europe and since it looks like select PS2 games are appearing Suikoden 3 is a must have.

Faithless_mr 4 October, 2011 @ 1:16 pm   24

Awesome! I’m really glad and I hope more and more rpgs make their way onto the store in the future.

Osahi_be 4 October, 2011 @ 1:18 pm   25

So, is this a warm up to an American Chrono Cross import release.

Please say yes?

the1free_man 4 October, 2011 @ 1:21 pm   26

Chrono trigger & Chrono cross.
Make it happen!

@1: I like the HD-remakes. PS3 is my first Playstation, so I didn’t play a lot of good games from the past.
But I don’t want to play games with outdated graphics (like the PSOne classics).

So I really appreciate the HD-versions of classic games!

Suzzopher 4 October, 2011 @ 1:25 pm   28

So hyped for Arc the Lad, played this so much on the PSone when I imported it back in 2000.

Skookie30 4 October, 2011 @ 1:26 pm   29

I‘m sorry windsorblue01 you’re post were below mine so i misread it.

we know Ps2 titles are coming as well i‘m here waiting for a confirmation, if we don‘t hear in the next half hour i got to go out.

Carnivius_Prime 4 October, 2011 @ 1:31 pm   30

Nice for diversity though none of this first lot really appeal to me (Sonic Wings is alright but unspectacular, Cho Aniki I saw years ago and not sure I want to ever see again and I just can’t stand JRPGs so Arc the Lad ain’t for me).

Might we ever see PC Engine games? I’d buy Parasol Stars in an instant. One of the absolute best 2 player games ever made.

@hayzink, before mouthing off maybe think. It was said they were trying to get the imports of re2 and re3. This thread is about imports, hence any news?

On a side note we shouldn’t have to lower expectations just because we are european.

Guillemots 4 October, 2011 @ 1:53 pm   32

Cho Aniki & Sonic Wings.

lindilou 4 October, 2011 @ 1:55 pm   33

Chrono Cross please!

.. something like that. Damn i miss that game.

Kayo-kun 4 October, 2011 @ 2:08 pm   35

May I ask where Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is? It was going to get released September 27 from what I read and there are no words on it this week either. It’s really disappointed how we in Europe get everything so late, not to mention never get some games (still waiting for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night EU release).

Great!! now lets start with USA imports too!!!!!!!!!

Arkeologen 4 October, 2011 @ 2:46 pm   37

I can recommend Super Sonic Wings.
Excellent shooter!

There are LOADS of PS1 games on the Japan PSN store. Last week i saw ‘Super PANG’ LOL I might get that(using a Japanese PSN Card) I got 2 games off the Japanese store in the past. I just couldn’t wait for the UK release really(if they would ever bring them to UK PSN that is which i doubt it) 🙁 + One problem tho is i can’t read Japanese:-(

@ adumr82
mothing off i think you should read your comment again!
“Any sign of the resi 2 and 3 games we should have been given as part of plus last month?”

hmm seems like a standard playstation plus moan to e but if it was not im sorry but you dont need to mention plus when asking about imports.

with regards to lowering our expectations comment you have taken that out of context, i dont mean we should expect to be second class to america i was just stating if a title was free with plus in the us and its not even on our store to buy what hope do we have of getting it in our plus update the same month.
it be like if america got castlevania sotn this month i would not expect to get it as its not on our store to buy, do you get what i mean now?

Ultima-Genesis 4 October, 2011 @ 3:55 pm   40

i dont get the whole RE2 & 3 import moan, they were released on ps1 in europe so theyre gonna be on the store at some point, they dont need to be imported, unless theres something special about the us versions?

extralife_psx 4 October, 2011 @ 3:56 pm   41

as said in starcraft2, “it’s about time!”, i could [DELETED] and moan for the longest time to why this hasn’t happened a loong time ago, but i won’t, coz now its happening and im looking forward to finally seeing games like r-type and chrono trigger finally hitting my ps3 at some point, while we are at it, what ever happened to ffiv ?? anyways, gz on the, for me, long awaited imports section of psn, looking for orward for some nice purchases :)….. i cant wait for salamander 2 ^^

Ultima-Genesis 4 October, 2011 @ 3:59 pm   42

oh and btw the whole america/europe/rest of the world psn store is a bit crap, just release it on every store in every country rather than favour one over the other, i understand time and update issues etc. But it doesnt seem fair that the US get re2 & 3 for free on plus but we dont, thats the reason i got plus in the first place

i agree with your first point of a single store it seems to work for the xbox so why not psn, it cant be due to publishers as 360 seems to do it with regards to the usa and europe at least(only game i know of thats not came out at the same time in eu and us is trenched and thats something to do with portugal) but publishers are known to have one rule for xbla and one for psn so publishers may still be the issue.
mind you the ps3 is in a far better position than it was a few years ago and with the vita on the horison and publishers seemingly desperate to make games for that i feel sony could take a harder stance with this supposed 360 favoritism that is evedent.

im confused to your second point but, did you get plus for re2 and 3 or just free games in general because if its the second point we do get free games all the time and some months our offerings are better than the usa(however your in nz and you seem to get the shaft more than others so i feel for you)

polynski 4 October, 2011 @ 4:19 pm   44

no japanese games will interest me but put spyro and croc on the store and ill buy em n i understand not every1 wants em so im willing to wait…could you tell me if any of these are even being considered….which is the spyro where you have to defrost frozen dragons?

polynski 4 October, 2011 @ 4:36 pm   45

spyro the dragon
south park cold turkey
starwars phantom menace
bugs bunny lost in time
donald duck goin quackers
wild 9
rugrats search for reptar

Catkiller1 4 October, 2011 @ 5:05 pm   46

@ Polynski

Spyro Year Of The Dragon!

You can still purchase the above titles that you’ve mentioned from Ebay & they will work on your PS3.

@ Ultima-Genesis

The deal with RE2 & RE3 is that both US versions run @ 60HZ, far superior to 50HZ. Also, the RE2 version on the US store is the Dual Shock version of RE2, again the superior option as it has extra stuff as well as being Dual Shock Compatible which the European RE2 was not.

Nothing else special about RE3, same as Euro version apart from the frame rate issue.

Finally!!! good start i m very happy for this

spyro the dragon
Silent hill
Resident evill 2,3
….and more…

Welcome to Europe! Europe love playstation 🙂 🙂 🙂

POULTER09 4 October, 2011 @ 5:53 pm   49

The more i read through the comments on various posts the more i realise that alot of people dont seem to be very happy with anything that goes on in the world of playstation. I just dont get why the moaners and groners still have ps3s. If nothings good enough then get an xbox and go moan on that instead of filling these pages with your boring rants.Things come in bits and bats you cant have everything at once. Well done sony and everyone who works with them for improving playstation one day at a time.

polynski 4 October, 2011 @ 6:02 pm   50

thanks catkiller but i was thinking digital rather than hard copy ive converted to digital ima get a new harddrive too cuz at the moment my 80 cant hold it all at once so i have to keep deleting it but the 500 gb 1 im getting should be enough

Nice! Good beginning! Sonic Wing Special, I wanted this game. Arc the Lad also.

Now, Square (Chrono Cross, Einhander, Legend of Mana, Dragon Quest VII, Brave Fencer Musashi) and Capcom (Megaman 1-2-3-4-5)do their job.

CoolRichy007UK 4 October, 2011 @ 7:36 pm   52

Skookie30 tone down the moaning = il be nicer to u 🙂 xx

CoolRichy007UK 4 October, 2011 @ 7:36 pm   53

Skookie30 is a good girl really when she is good 🙂 hope she says hello to me

chrisandsheva 4 October, 2011 @ 8:34 pm   54

therea nothing been mentioned by the announcement nor any comments that grab my interest, however hats off for the attempt by scee of rebuilding them burnt bridges, also it’s pointlesx trying to state a opinion about the other issues raised here, as someone will allways have a counter, as of course these forums should have,..i was excited when they give us re1, as i never discovered the series till 4, and obviously wanted all 3 predecessors, but unfortunately i found it way to difficult to not keep seeing ‘your dead’ screen, those ‘tank’ controlls just aren’t for me, i would however spend as much time as needed watching someones playthrough of the 3 games,..once you’ve been ‘bitten’ by the resi bug it takes over, sort of like las plagas, but i doubt theres any ps1 ‘classic’ or otherwise i could put more than a hour or so a day into,..just become so accustomed to ‘near’ perfection in modern games that the whole ps1 agenda holds no interest to me,..i also believe that the dam trophy/rewards system now prevents me from doing this as well, as like many others here if i’m not hearing that ping i feel i’m wasting my allready limited gaming time, and i know that isn’t right.

Skookie30 4 October, 2011 @ 8:51 pm   55

How long have we waited for imports, that will be how long you get a hello.

i‘m thinking about giveing you my number thu PSN it will be a long mobile number of course, i need it to contact family members

well i‘m off now been a good week so far.

Skookie is a moaning git that needs to **** off people are getting annoyed with this nonsense.

RemyX-1988 4 October, 2011 @ 8:55 pm   57

Awesome! But… I can’t play them! My PS3 just broke down last Sunday. YLOD… again! Will have to wait for Sony to repair it. Hopefully before Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends is released!

Sad though, that I had to pay for repair costs a second time. I already did that in 2009! Plus, I have a 60GB console, which already cost me €600!

So… in total, the console itself cost me near €900! Add another €500,- on PSN downloads, 474 original PS2 titles, around 70 PS3 titles, near 50 original PS1-titles and about 40 PSP-titles, and you’d say I’d be a pretty good costumer over the years… I would say that Sony should show their appreciation to me by repairing it for free. But they won’t! For this repair, I may give them a whopping €124,50!

Anyway… I’ll probably buy some of these imports, anyway. I’m a sucker for such things… weakness?

Skookie30 4 October, 2011 @ 9:05 pm   58

speak for yourself i remember you moaning about things, i think you better read catkiller & mine posts again.

before you join in.

i wasn’t moaning today apparently you can’t read.

i said i close this but it looks like you open it up again.

my mobile number is a good way to prove i‘m a bloke but you join in think you smart, stick around tomorrow heads up i got a announcement to make.

kupocake 4 October, 2011 @ 9:08 pm   59

I know it comes down to the ease of conversion, but the fact that two of these games are shumups just goes to show that PSN is missing a trick by not having more available. Sure, I should direct my hate the way of Microsoft and their Arcade exclusivity pacts, but a platform that doesn’t have Ikaruga doesn’t feel like a games machine at all.

Chrono Cross ought to be where we’re heading with this, though as it’s missing from the US PSN store too… Would say no to R-Type Delta, Legend of Mana, Resident Evil 2. Oh, and isn’t it compulsory to moan about the lack of Policenauts? I haven’t a clue what that game was actually about.

kupocake 4 October, 2011 @ 9:09 pm   60

Or you know, I wouldn’t say no. It has been a long day.

CoolRichy007UK 4 October, 2011 @ 9:15 pm   61

trutenprower 4 October, 2011 @ 10:31 pm   66

Awesome news especially Arc the Lad! I’ll be itching to play it. And to those asking about why we haven’t gotten the PAL versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3, Ross has already said in previous posts that the PAL versions do not work correctly on the PSOne emulator so they are trying to get the NTSC versions. Just wait for them.

lol cool are you ok? you needa lie down?

magnato123 4 October, 2011 @ 11:59 pm   68

xbox live down

cat-charlie 5 October, 2011 @ 12:05 am   69

Part 1
@Monoliet (1 + 6)
I like HD remakes, Quite often they are good value for money (getting 3 games for the price of one, and they are usually less than the price of the brand new games) but also not everyone has played them when they first came out, I know I didn’t play the first 3 Prince of Persia’s on the PS2 and I wouldn’t want to play them on my PS2 because I have my PS3 set up, so its nice to be able to get a HD remake of a bunch of games that I didn’t get to play when they first came out, Also while your only THING of interest maybe Monsterhunter, that is not a game that I would play, I am how ever looking forward to the release of Final Fantasy X because It was a game that I spent so many happy hours playing and while I still have the disk and my PS2, I don’t play it because my PS2 isn’t easily accessable, but I will buy FFX HD when it come out and re-play it, because while I haven’t got the motivation to unpack my PS2 and set it up I am prepaired to spend money on a HD version and play it though again with trophies and better visuals.

cat-charlie 5 October, 2011 @ 12:05 am   70

Part 2
Also currently (This will probably change with the launch of the Vita, but thats not out yet) you can’t play PS3 games on the move, I have downloaded a ton of PS1 classics and I have them all on my PSP, while I don’t play them on my PS3 (Mainly because they don’t have trophies) I do play them while I’m out and about with my PSP.

You’ve changed your tune *High Five*

I’m sorry too – I know this probably sounds a bit half hearted after CoolRichy007UK’s but I am sorry for being an Ass towards you, everyone has a right to speak their mind.

Is Australia and New Zealand going to get these? My guess is No.

Ultima-Genesis 5 October, 2011 @ 6:31 am   72

I got plus because of the deals and incentives etc. but what i meant was that while the US get re2 & 3 for free on plus we dont, and its not even up on the store yet in europe/australia (where i am) so my point was if theyre gonna do a deal like that especially for such a well-loved series, shouldnt it be a global deal rather than shafting us even though we pay for plus as well? Although i do see your point, we do tend to get some pretty good stuff on plus and i dont wanna seem ungrateful but the whole split-market ps store jus seems like bad business sense to me

Ultima-Genesis 5 October, 2011 @ 6:33 am   73

Thanks for that, wasnt aware of any differences between them. Well im definately hoping for US version on our store then

Ray Almeda 5 October, 2011 @ 8:30 am   74

Hey everyone!

Thanks for all of your support for our new import games on the European PSone import section. Here at MonkeyPaw Games, we’re overwhelmed with the response. We’ve been big believers in re-introducing forgotten Japanese gems with the rest of the world and there’s still plenty more games to come, even with a few pleasant surprises down the line! As always, we truly value our fans and do listen to your suggestions so please keep them coming. Here’s some answers to your questions.

@Sephiroth180/Ahkiva: Our Japanese import titles are in their untouched forms (un-translated), but that doesn’t mean that they’re difficult to play. We’re carefully chosen titles that are easy to play without the need for learning the Japanese language. Take Sonic Wings Special and Cho Aniki for example. Both are shooters that focus on gameplay and control that don’t require translation. Furthermore, this makes it a lot easier for us to release a higher number of games without the need of taking the time to go through every one. Keep it up with the suggestions and we’ll continue to strive for obtaining the licenses to even more wanted games from the Land of the Rising Sun.

Ray Almeda 5 October, 2011 @ 8:31 am   75

Also, note that our PSone classic titles are in English because they’re emulated ports of the original American PSone versions. For games like Arc the Lad which can be text heavy, this is important to ensure full understanding of the story and gameplay tutorials.

We’ve also included translated menus and tips for our import games on our website at It’s optional, but for die-hards, it’s a good resource to also find out more about our other titles that could also be making it to the European PSN.

@Shou Kobayashi – We plan on releasing more titles for both the PSone import and classics sections every couple weeks or so. Make sure you continue to keep tabs on us on Twitter ( and Facebook ( to keep up to date on the titles that we’ll be working on next. We’re very vocal about responding to our fans, so it’s also a way to get in touch with us directly with any sort of feedback.

Download these games and keep the suggestions coming for more import titles you’d like to see from MonkeyPaw Games on PSN. This is only the beginning and there’s plenty more on the way!

@ Polynski

No Problem 🙂

I knew you were thinking digital, but I though i’d mention the retail too.

Alot of gamers out there think just because the PS2 capability was removed that PS1 games won’t work, so I posted the website to display the details of which ones work & which ones encounter problems.

Be careful with the Hard Drives too & make sure it’s a decent make. Don’t ever bother with a 1TB drive, as eventually it will wear your PS3 down!

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 9:01 am   77

hi ray since you starting to answer our questions here 1 from me.

are monkeypaw working with victor ireland new company i read that from somewhere if so there 2 titles i/we want..

Lunar-1: silverstar story complete

Lunar-2: Eternal Blue complete.

Catkiller1 5 October, 2011 @ 9:08 am   78

I just want the US releases please 😉

@ CoolRichy

Don’t need to apologise to me, as i’ve been through far worse in my life…..BELIEVE ME!

Thanks though & i’m glad you’ve put this all behind you. Shows that you have a level of maturity to you & I respect that 🙂

We all have a moan on here now & again, as we’re only human & we don’t have the same minds & opinions. If you want to reply, do it tastefully.

I feel like we should have some music playing in the background as I can feel the love off some people now PMSL!

Elton john “Can you feel the love tonight”! HA HA!

rossthebassist 5 October, 2011 @ 9:52 am   79

i dont get why people are complaining. Imports of classic games that and just classic games in general are a good thing.
my only gripe is that the PS2 emulation is not going to include disc format, unfortunate for some of us that had a 60gb die and we had to upgrade to a slim.

i will however continue to purchase psone classics and imports should the titles be ones that i am intrested in.

i would like the japanese version of tekken 3 please. i have fond memorys of importing this before uk release due to the speed differance the uk version just never made the grade, it was much quicker than the UK version.

Suikoden 1 and 2 imported would be awsome aswell.

preferably americans for those.

as for ps2 classics im excited (with the exception of not being able to use our discs) some quality old skool games that deserve to make it to our HDD’s

this import section is an excellent idea, especially if used in all regions of the store (i.e. USA get EU games and vice versa). Japanese imports are a huge interest to me, mainly cuz i can’t speak the language but with be interesting to examine their design.

What I really want is Spyro 1, 2 and 3 which got on to the USA PS store as far as I know. What’s the status on them getting them green lit here (UK)?

KaiserSoza13 5 October, 2011 @ 11:54 am   81

US Store got Chrono Trigger last night, I would love to see taht here in the next update or even in a few weeks time, also can you guys look into the availability of the Chocobo Dungeon games.

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 12:09 pm   82

For anybody that intrested you can grab ARC THE LAD NOW!!!

the best part is it‘s £3.99 for non plus members but it good to be a plus as we get it For FREE.

it part of this month plus update.

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 12:10 pm   83

type arc the lad in search.

cat-charlie 5 October, 2011 @ 12:18 pm   84

Is there any info around on which HDD is good in a PS3? I was gonna buy the biggest on I could find and stick it in (I’ve currently got about 20GB left on my 320GB) I was going to get a 1TB but I heard that some of the larger ones aren’t compatible with the PS3 (even if they are the right size)

Weasel-Dave 5 October, 2011 @ 12:20 pm   85

Thanks skookie will check it out asap, love a classic RPG almost as much as reading the fights/make-ups on this blog! makes Eastenders totally redundant!! lol

windsorblue01 5 October, 2011 @ 12:23 pm   86

good spot Skookie just downloading now

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 12:27 pm   87

on the subject of arc the lad still downloading it but should the icon have a USA flag for english version monkeypaw not a riseing sun flag

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 12:30 pm   88

it takeing ages now the MB not that big you lot really must be on the store.

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 12:48 pm   89

“Also, note that our PSone classic titles are in English because they’re emulated ports of the original American PSone versions. For games like Arc the Lad which can be text heavy, this is important to ensure full understanding of the story and gameplay tutorials.”

HOW can you mess up on us, prepared to be shock folks.

is there 2 version the please answer.

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 12:50 pm   90

this is clearly misleading if there 2 copys it‘s a win win for All.

Catkiller1 5 October, 2011 @ 12:54 pm   91

@ cat-charlie

Stick to 2.5inch SATA drives with no more than 5400rpm & you should be fine!

Samsung, Seagate & Western Digital are the only ones that i’d purchase. I’ve had no problems whatsoever with my Seagate 320gb one!

Just shop around for a decent price first & make sure before you purchase from a private seller, that you ask if it’s the original. Some sellers will offer alternative makes & models, if the current one isn’t in stock!

Kind regards

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 1:02 pm   92

i read all the description manual english only how can you do this SCEA got the game with english text in-game i‘m not moaning i‘m gutted. 🙁

What about the PS2 classics (God Hand, Odin Sphere, etc) which were released on US PSN Store yesterday? Will we see those in Europe soon?

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 1:22 pm   94

For your information the store been update with U3 beta.

i think i will sell my Ps3 and give up gameing all together. SCEE surely can’t run a business misleading article.

i was wanting imports but if this how you do things you said “classic & imports” classic meaning japanese, imports meaning Usa version in english.

cat-charlie 5 October, 2011 @ 1:23 pm   95

Awesome thanks, I just chucked the one from my Laptop in last time I up’d the HDD.

windsorblue01 5 October, 2011 @ 1:25 pm   96

plus stuff been updated

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 1:25 pm   97

@BeanDK nope no Ps2 title even though the SCEE rep lied to EG & thesixthaxis.

i like to see what The excuse this time in the store heads up.

what a way to build our hopes & smash Them.

taihen desu?

if I remember right that thats the phonetic announciation of the kanji for “is there a problem”

and the answer is yes – as far as Arc the Lad is concerned – yes its actually the Japanese version – but that really isn’t the issue – wouldn’t be the first time I played a game and didn’t know what was going on

but its the fact that it takes you to a load screen – as in load your save (you know the save you won’t have on your ps3)

to be fair – is it not that someone has messed up – but more a case that this isn’t something we are suppose to have and was simply someone testing something on the network before the store goes live?

here’s hoping Oct is an rpg month for plus

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 1:30 pm   99

There is a problem i can’t really blame SCEE the lack of response from monkeypaw is deafening “we take our fans seriously” more spin & lies.

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 1:34 pm   100

so please don’t be offended when i say if those RPG are in only japanese You & SCEE both mislead up.

i say SCEE because i was reading the august 1st post Jap/usa imports did i read it wrong.

Kotatsu2000 5 October, 2011 @ 1:38 pm   101

Nice these are finally arriving but you really need to fix all of the dodgy 50hz PS1 stuff released so far. At least release full speed, full screen 60hz ‘import’ editions of all the Squaresoft stuff…

should add Cho Aniki is….

I picked it up a year ago – basically the name roughly translates to something like bad game

yet there is something incredibly disturbing about collecting pools of white protein to level up your weapon – your first inclination is to think get these two dudes off me until you realise the toga dressed men surrounding you act as a barrier as you gobble up protein to battle bosses that pop out of a long shaft (first boss) and pyramid of guys that are either belching or farting at you (2nd boss) both of which are shown in the video – I can’t get past the 2nd boss – but not sure if thats a lack of skill or a burning desire to not know what comes next

windsorblue01 5 October, 2011 @ 1:50 pm   103

store updated

DimDim10Dan 5 October, 2011 @ 2:09 pm   104

Arc the Lad is in japanese, which is a contradiction with what Ray Almeda says…

Please propose the english version too : I can’t read japanese, and hence can’t play Arc the Lad…

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 2:16 pm   105

“Arc the Lad is in japanese, which is a contradiction with what Ray Almeda says…

Please propose the english version too : I can’t read japanese, and hence can’t play Arc the Lad…”

so you found out but that nothing new SCEE been doing contradiction with it‘s Posts for years are people starting to relies that not.

i‘m all up to play jap shooters but with RPG no thanks in english please have a look at the contradiction august 1st blog post how many flags are there?

2 it‘s 2

hmm does anyone think its strange that the store updates and yet we get no heads up

is this SCEE’s way of dealing with the increasing number of complaints in regards to both its regular and plus content

or is it more a case of continued SCEE incompetence as opposed to outright avoidance

hayzink 5 October, 2011 @ 2:21 pm   107

i dont care tbh as the content refresh has happened a bit sooner than usual so i ve already grabbed my games plus bought borderlands and the great tree game as its less than 1.50, swaying on what to do with the other ~£25 in my wallet think ill wait a week to see whats on special offer next week.

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 2:22 pm   108

that‘s nothing new yesterday i was please my god what a 24 hours can do i think it time for SCEE to fold period.

DylaNolife 5 October, 2011 @ 2:25 pm   109

Jannuary :
-20% on Costume Quest for PSN+
October :
Costume Quest Free…
So, we bought it (-20% !) and…

yes its up but with wrong broken content (re Arc the Lad)

good thing I put money on NA account instead of the UK one where I can play Chrono Trigger or Odin Sphere or both or buy the Arc the Lad bundle (there are at least 3 Arc games on the US store) – the possibilities of purchases to made when there are genuine choices to be had

windsorblue01 5 October, 2011 @ 2:34 pm   111

just take note plus team remember midmonth treat or else youl only be bombarded like last month

hayzink 5 October, 2011 @ 2:38 pm   112

i have choices i just live in fear of plus discounts later of a game i buy being free soon.

i never bought anygames for a while because of this and fifaly bought plants vs zombies full price as i thought with it being such a popular game it would not be on plus anytime soon but how wrong was i if id waited a few months id have gotten it free.
thats the curse of plus i guess you always take that chance.

i think they should introduce a rule from now on that if a game is offered to plus users at a discount they should make a rule that it wont end up on plus for free for at least 12 months then people like you wont feel hard done by if the game is later made free

Catkiller1 5 October, 2011 @ 2:43 pm   113

Makes me laugh how James goes away & the Blog falls apart!!!

Relying on 1 person, is idiotic to say the least 😉

Weasel-Dave 5 October, 2011 @ 2:43 pm   114

So the BIG 5th oct announcement appears to consist of an advert for Lynx and some 15 year old ps1 games in a language we cannot understand!! can’t wait for next week, I am hoping for a Tena Lady commercial and Pong in Klingon! K’plah!!

windsorblue01 5 October, 2011 @ 2:44 pm   115

yep did same with Costume Quest but been lucky this only second game they done i allready had

hayzink 5 October, 2011 @ 2:47 pm   116

i thought that was the uncharted thing tbh, i know they told us a few days b4 but it was relating to the 5th.

im not expecting any other big news i would just like to know if there’s a heads up on any more discounts coming during the month for plus.

blogs been good last few weeks just hoping there having computer issues or something because i enjoy getting involved in the update blog comments

Catkiller1 5 October, 2011 @ 2:47 pm   117

@ Hayzink

I agree.

I nearly purchased Plants VS Zombies a couple of weeks before it was free!

I might hold off on purchases from now on & pick them up at a later date, as I have enough anyway!

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 2:47 pm   118

YOOHOO 2 faced Lieing Ross and co Where you Hideing

Re my own comment on #71, I’m happy to say I was wrong, and they are available at least in the Australian PSN store

you misunderstand – the games i’m talking about buying aren’t on the UK / EU store they are only on the US store search for Chrono Trigger or Odin Sphere

Harvest Moon, Legend of Mana, Auditorium HD, Suikoden, – just to name a few of the games I have on my ps3 that i downloaded from the US store – which aren’t on the UK store

think while i’m at it will pick up God hand and GrimGrimoire as well – my guess maybe a year from now EU will get these games on the psn

Catkiller1 5 October, 2011 @ 2:50 pm   121

@ Hayzink

I wasn’t on about the last few weeks. Incase you haven’t noticed James went off to Jordan recently. I’m on about the poor state of affairs on this Blog over the past 3 days!

There were harsh posts on here that the moderators would have deleted without question, on a normal day. Now the Heads Up hasn’t happened, but I can guarantee if James were here the Heads Up would have appeared by now 😉

hayzink 5 October, 2011 @ 2:53 pm   122

i have not been that lucky im afraid for the first half of last year i was thinking plus was a bad buy for me as i had almost everything every week bar the minis which i dont care much for tbh and the dlc was all for games i did not have.

then things started to get better (partly because i stopped buying as many games) some months i still find i have some of the content but i get more than my moneys worth even with them.
i think plus got far better when they did drop the dlc from it and insteasd added mid month treats(when they remember) the only thing i dont like is betas because there nothing new to me.
because i spent so much on the store i got emailed a few beta codes god of war 3 demo springs to mind plus others but now they just tack them onto plus(sometimes only for a week) and PERSONALY i dont think they are worthy of what we class as plus content.

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 2:55 pm   123

that not a excuess it funny that all the rest manage to come-one.

Yes i‘m moaning again I DON‘T LIKE being LIED TOO.

i bet EG & thesixthaxis will be FED UP too being LIED TOO.

my guess we won’t get a heads up (bit pointless now as it would hardly be a heads up)

but its avoidance of dealing with the fallout from the fact the EU isn’t getting the ps2 games the US got yesterday

also the plus offering for this month is pretty poor if whats in plus now is all we are being offered for the month of Oct (because for the last couple of months all those mid-month treats we were getting – we never got)

not to mention – the ps1 game we were given seems to assume we already have saves from the game as the only option seems to be load

hansuramu 5 October, 2011 @ 2:58 pm   125

So Arc the Lad is in Japanese, yet Working Design is credited at the very bottom of the store page? Lol.

hayzink 5 October, 2011 @ 2:59 pm   126

@ Izorpo

i know the us store has far more content i have an account and do buy from the store(i had to as im a massive suikoden fan) but i hate the fact i have to have content on 2 accounts simply because its a pain in the ass having to swap accounts on the psp all the time to play stuff i bought from the user(if vita lets us have more than 1 account then this point goes away)

i have $20 in my usa account now but thats being kept for the disgaea 4 dlc when it hits.

p.s incase no one knows you can buy psn codes from amazons us site now and they email you the code, best thing about this is $20 is what you pay unlike with other site who charge a mark up to mail you the code.

windsorblue01 5 October, 2011 @ 3:00 pm   127

bought that topatoi but the dlc is nearly a fiver you need to bring that down

Catkiller1 5 October, 2011 @ 3:00 pm   128

@ lzorpo

No you’re wrong!

Not everyone is sat at home on their PS3. I haven’t got a clue what’s in todays Store update, unless you care to enlighten me?

I won’t be able to check until 18:00 this evening! 🙁

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 3:00 pm   129

I HAD ENOUGH any-one got a email address for sony.

i was getting ready to go out to get some PSN vouchers but not after this disgrace sony not getting any more money from ME useless ****

Catkiller1 5 October, 2011 @ 3:01 pm   130

YAY it’s up!! LOL 🙂

hayzink 5 October, 2011 @ 3:02 pm   131

i read that eurogamer interview and the sony eu rep said we will also be getting the content from the new usa promotion but at no point in that interview does he say when.

if you don’t want to always feel let down by scee then stop building your expectations up to receive content on certain dtates just wait till they announce it.

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 3:02 pm   132

as phoneing them will be pointless.

Catkiller1 5 October, 2011 @ 3:05 pm   133

@ Skookie

I stupidly traded my Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition for a £25 voucher yesterday!

Didn’t realise how rare it is too 🙁

The PLUS update has happened but it doesn’t detail the normal store content??!!

Can anyone tell me whether Crysis is on the store & how much, as that’s the reason I purchased a voucher!!

Skookie30 5 October, 2011 @ 3:06 pm   134

nope the keyword is…..contradiction that SCEE problem so are we gonna wait another 4 years for PS2 title that same rep said leading up to xmas Yes not this year.

i never believe anything SCEE said on here.

not a lot up to be honest – Eufloria and mostly digital releases of games like De Blob, Crysis amd Ape Escape

4 ps1 ones (3 JP ones and Gex if I remember right)

I don’t have to worry about buying codes from Amazon – my mother just sends to me

@ those complaining about the US promotion (only on psn)

someone earlier in the week posted a link to an article that stated we would not be getting that promotion but that Europe would be gettig something different – whatever that is

TheRedMage 5 October, 2011 @ 3:54 pm   136

Does this mean we will finally get Chrono Cross, Tales of Destiny, Parasite Eve, Valkyrie Profile (PS version), Brave Fencer Musashi, *rambles a long list of awesome PS games* on PSN? If yes: take my money now!

StefNighthawk 5 October, 2011 @ 4:30 pm   137

Quote: “This classic is in English only ”
For an English only classis it’s quite heavy on kanji :-p

Ray Almeda 6 October, 2011 @ 12:36 am   138

Hey everybody!

Wanted to give another update on the concern/confirmation that Arc the Lad on the PSone classics store is in fact Japanese.

Unfortunately, this is a mistake. We never intended to use the Japanese version. We expected the English version that we used in America. We’re currently working with Sony on a fast and efficient fix, especially for those who have already downloaded the game.

We will speak to Sony and get this situation clarified shortly. Thanks again for your attention and immense patience.

SausageDog 7 October, 2011 @ 10:26 am   139

Loving the imports. Picked up Cho Aniki and hoping for more JPN PS1 games in future (and of course US releases we never got in PAL land too).

Keep releasing and I’ll keep supporting!

Ray Almeda 8 October, 2011 @ 5:25 am   140

So wanted to chime in on a few more questions that people have been asking:

1.) Is MonkeyPaw Games working with Victor Ireland (Skookie30)

A. We are indeed working with Victor Ireland as he has been a great partner considering all of the classic titles that Working Designs and now Gajinworks has been involved in. I guess it isn’t a hint anymore that Vanguard Bandits is coming…

2.) Will MonkeyPaw Games take care of all import titles?

A. We won’t be doing all of the imports for the PSone Imports section, but we will be coming out with the large majority every couple weeks or so. Additionally, we’ll also be releasing PSone Classics titles (like Arc the Lad), where the majority of the games there will be in English. Expect Alundra to also be in this conversation aoon.

Keep your wishlists of import games coming, as we’re trying our best to secure the licenses to make more games happen. The best way to do this would be to message us on Twitter ( and Facebook (

Thanks again for your patience and support as usual!

Skookie30 8 October, 2011 @ 11:24 am   141

Thanks i had a hunch he would i did say about it ages ago.

so a possibility that lunar 1 & 2 be here for EU.

can you please do what it says on the can Ray.

why does a jap 60hz display in 4:3 ratio not 16:9 widescreen.

i just bought my 1st SCEA import like i expected a better region the game doesn’t say 60hz, but it is 16:9 widescreen.

when/if we get lunar 1 & 2 60hz isn’t 3:4 it‘s 16:9.

Ice2seeYou 10 October, 2011 @ 8:01 am   142

My mates and I would love to see BUSHIDO BLADE 1 + 2 released on the PSN . . . i know they’re available on the Japan PSN . . and I was considering creating a Japanese PSN account then buying a Japanese points card from the net JUST TO GET THESE GAMES . . but now i think i’ll wait to get them legit if there’s a possibility they’d come out for the rest of us.

iamthevirus 11 October, 2011 @ 9:20 pm   143

Hi Ray, thanks for sharing the import love with us all. Brings back the glory days of modding your machine to play something special.

I’ve got a couple of requests for some classics that I’d love to have on PSN.

1.) Chrono Trigger – the US store just got this (and it was released in the US) – but we never had a UK release of Square at their best. I know its a big ask – but it would be great to play this game again (used to play it on the SNES back in the day).

2.) Puyo Puyo Sun – a HUGE ask as I think SEGA have the license for this now 🙁 But Puyo Puyo is a series that has had very little love in the west – and I love it. Huge Puyo fan.

3.) iS: Internal Section – Like Rez – but earlier and thankfully doesn’t really need any knowledge of Japanese.

4.) Gundam Battle Assault – Big silly robots fighting each other KOF style.

ThomasakaDes 20 October, 2011 @ 10:50 pm   144

This article is a good place to ask(again).
I know Suikoden is available on the NA store, compatible with both PS3 and PSP.
Please can we get it on the EU store too?
BUT it has to be available in Norway too, since thats where I live. I know there are more in Norway that would love to either play it for the first time or again.
And I know there`s many more in the rest of EU that would be thrilled to get to play the first in that series.
I`ll be asking for it until it gets on there, for Norway too, I`m so desperate for that game hehe.

SUIKODEN 2 !!!!!

ThomasakaDes 20 October, 2011 @ 11:48 pm   146

Lets stick with the one they got on the NA store for now, it`s more likely we could get that then the 2nd game.
Suikoden is in the PSone Classics section on the NA store.
I wouldn`t mind being able to buy them all on the store of course, even the 4th.
The timeline in Suikoden is 4-5-1-2-3.
I`ve played 5th and it`s the best rpg I`ve played, played it 10 times in a row before I got bored, yes seriously 10 times XD Played it one last time abit before I got a PS3.
And yes, even better the Oblivion and Mass Effect, imo.
