‘Heads-Up’ PlayStation Plus Update – 6th June 2012

PlayStation Plus has changed!

By now, you’ve probably seen what’s going on with the US PlayStation Plus update in June and the ‘Instant Game Collection’ and I’m certain you’re all excited to see what we’ve got in Store for you too.

Well I’ve got a lot to go through with you so brace yourself and please keep your arms and legs inside the blog post at all times.

So let’s cover all that shall we?

First of all, you’re still going to get MASSES of discounts on all kinds of stuff in Store, both Plus exclusive and extra discounts on Special offers.

You’re still going to get exclusive dynamic themes, avatars and access to beta trials – in fact we’ve got some truly fantastic betas coming before the end of the year for you.

Then, there are the games. From now on, the watchwords are more and better. More new games, more digital Blu-ray, more of the very best the PlayStation®Store can provide.

You’re getting 10 games up front and from next month, 3 of those games will change, and you’ll get at least 3 games per month thereafter.

The important thing is that whenever you decide to join PlayStation®Plus, there will be a minimum of 10 games for you to start playing right away.

So which games? Let’s go take a look. Oh and if you see a number in brackets, it’s a Metacritic score for your reference.

PlayStation®Plus Presents

Not content with offering you those 10 titles I also have another small announcement to make – here in SCEE we’ll be running a little sideline within Plus called ‘PlayStation®Plus Presents…’

We’ll be searching for the very best independently developed titles for PlayStation 3 right now and in the future – those games that really stand out we’ll hand pick for our Plus subscribers. Each ‘PlayStation®Plus Presents’ game will be available to download in Plus at no extra cost for 8 weeks from the moment it launches on the Store, meaning that as well as blockbuster titles, as a Plus subscriber you’ll be able to play the very best of indie too.

Our first PPP title will be an extremely cool little shooter called Retro/Grade – it won the Audience Award at IndieCade 2010 and was a finalist for Excellence in Audio and Excellence in Design in the 2009 Independent Games Festival. I urge you all to go and check it out because you’ll get to play it soon enough.

Retro/Grade is just the first such title that will be available at no cost to Plus subscribers when it launches later this summer.

Now you know what’s yours for the taking, I’m sure you have some questions.
I’ve tried to answer a few pre-emptively below.

What about my PS one, PS2 and minis?

Based on all the feedback we’ve had from you guys over the last couple of years, we’ve decided that our subscribers would be better served by offering you more digital Blu-ray titles and top of the line PSN games, rather than scrabbling around to find a compelling PS one or minis titles. That said, if a truly awe inspiring minis title or one of the greatest PS one or PS2 titles that ever existed suddenly shows up on PS Store, you can bet your britches that we’ll secure it for you.

How come SCEA subscribers get 12 games and we only get 10?

It’s true, SCEA get two more games than SCEE subscribers up front.

However, most titles in SCEA Plus will stick around for 16 weeks before being refreshed – in SCEE we keep games for a maximum of 12 weeks, which means we rotate through more games in a full year – in fact we are committed to delivering over 45 games to you as part of your subscription before June 2013, and that’s before we factor in any extra minis or PS one titles that might show up. Additionally, any ‘PlayStation®Plus Presents’ games will be extra to the standard game rotation.

Will those 45 games include repeating games that have already been offered in Plus from the past?

As you’ve already seen, some of the games that are being provided to you may have been discounted in Plus before – we will try to keep this to a minimum. We’ve committed to offering only the absolute best games available on the PSN Store, which means meeting a minimum quality requirement. I cannot guarantee that you won’t be offered a game that has been discounted before but there will be more than enough brand new titles and games that have never been in Plus to provide you an astonishing amount of value, even if you purchased all of those discounted games previously. What we won’t do is ever offer something that’s been included as a 100% discount title before unless it’s a true ‘second-chance’ offer – that means it doesn’t count towards your total.

Guys, while you’re reading this I am almost certainly asleep in a strange bed in California so please bear with me – I will do my best to respond to as many comments as I can while I’m here at E3.

In the meantime, I want to see feedback, I want to see suggestions for games to be included later in the year, I want to hear anything you have to say about these changes!

In the meantime, enjoy the anticipation of receiving five top class digital Blu-ray titles, four of the best of the Store’s back catalogue and one brand new PSN game, all still just £39.99/€49.99 for a year’s subscription.

And of course, if you join right now, there’s still time to get May’s content as well.

wicked, awesome and so on… probably the best opportunity to get the ps+ for those who haven’t got it yet. nice update.

Very cool line up, although I’ll definitely miss the Minis. So will you bring something else to Vita plussers?

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:07

We know people are seen to see PS Plus involved with PlayStation Vita and are listening closely to your feedback on the subject. That’s all I can say at this time.

Nice ;-)

Amazing, thanks, this is the best reason yet to be a PlayStation Plus member. One question though.

Can we play the games throughout our entire Plus subscription? Or do they stop being playable once they are taken off the list of 10 games?

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:09

Good question! That aspect is the same as before – the dates for availability are regarding your initial download of the game – the same as now.

If you make sure that you go and opt to download a game before it exists Plus, then you can download it and keep playing it for as long as you’re a subscriber.

Likewise, if you are running short of space, you can delete it from your hard drive and retrieve it from your download list at ANY time – but you have to keep your subscription active.

Also, I’d love to get more followers on Twitter – @MakoD

Mattrapid441 05 June, 2012 @ 13:51

Top Wants

Tombi – PS1
Crash Nitro Kart – PS2

nice line-up, thanks… but i’ve got one question:

will PS+ stay as PS3+, or can we see some PSVita freebies/exclusives/discounts soon?

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:10

Please see my response to comment 1.

Need a bigger hdd :(

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:11

More than 45 games over the next year? Yeah, you do. :)

Ah after just seeing that the US lineup included R&C:All4One, I was hoping we’d be getting that too, but oh well, maybe in the next update aye ? lol

Great improvement guys,thumbs up!

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:13

That’s a distinct possibility and another good point.

The schedule for PlayStation Plus is set for a good while but it has been designed to be a little bit fluid.

If you want to see a game included – ANY game – ask for it. That’s not a promise to deliver but a promise to look into it.

ImperatorA3 05 June, 2012 @ 13:54

Looks interesting.

GrumpyMcGrump 05 June, 2012 @ 13:54

as PSMako already asked this, are those 10 games playable throughout my entire playstation plus subscription and every 3 months 2 new games are added? or are the games only playable for 3 months?

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:13

Playable for as long as you remain a subscriber and accessible in your download list, as long as you downloaded them initially.

almighty-slayer 05 June, 2012 @ 13:54

Already own all of those.

So uh, thanks but no thanks :)

Ah, no Ratchet & Clank? Meh… might just buy the American PS+, buy some cards online. xD

almighty-slayer 05 June, 2012 @ 13:55

Well, i don’t own Space Marines, but there’s a very good reason for that :P

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:22

Which is? Have you actually tried it? I was pleasantly surprised after I got over the first bit. I wouldn’t have put it into Plus if I didnt think it was fun.

This is really cool. Getting MotorStorm and Outland. Suggestion for next update: R&C:All4One.

US got better games i would take Ratchet, Lara Croft over Chime Super Deluxe, Renegade Ops, Oddworld anyday :/

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:23

1. I disagree but you’re entitled to that opinion. ;)
2. I wouldnt worry too much about what the US has and we don’t just yet.

InnerSenses 05 June, 2012 @ 13:56

So excited about this! I must say, I am a little disappointed that PSOne Classics and PS2 games are being given a back door, but at the same time I just can’t say no to Infamous 2, Darksiders, Motorstorm, Oddworld… I don’t know where I’m gonna find the time to play these games!

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:29

Like I said – it’s not NEVER but it’ll have to be a really special title to make it in.

So where before we kept every single game that you gave to us for as long as we remained subscribers, we will now lose three games each month that you gave to us previously? I understand they will be replaced by other games, but we are still losing games that we would otherwise have kept and perhaps enjoyed until our subscriptions expired. If this is the case, just how how much notice do you intend to give of the games before revoking games. I’d hate to be working towards game completion only to have Sony delete it from my machine.

I guess I’m disappointed really that PS Plus subscriptions would now being used as a marketing tool to entice users into buying games. It sounds to me like the free games would now be better described as “time limited demos”.

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:24

No, you’ve misunderstood.
You lose access to nothing. Keep your subscription active and you have access to EVERYTHING you ever download.

Great improvement of Plus!

Thanks guys.

InnerSenses 05 June, 2012 @ 13:57

@16 Chime is a great game! I bought it when it was discounted for PS+, it’s addictive as hell!

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:25

What he said!
Truly a game everyone should at least try.

just to check, it seems to say we lose these games on a regular basis instead of keeping them throughout the ps+ reg period, can you clarify?

Helvedeshunden 05 June, 2012 @ 13:57

As a long-time PS+ member I feel… absolutely ecstatic about this. I’m glad I recently upgraded my poor old 120GB drive.

Will these titles be playable on my PS3s as long as my PS+ subscription is active, or will the games expire after a while?

“Avatars: Panther! Rhino! Tiger! Walrus… er… Giant Squid?!” Is that Tokyo Jungle avatars :D

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:29

No, but who doesn’t want a Giant Squid as their PSN ID?

Ross is LBP2 for free And infamous 2 aswell ?

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:30

Yes and Yes.

meh this instant collection is crud compared to SCEA.
Its because of stupid decisions like this that SCEE makes, I have started moving to PC games. It cant fathom why Sony is so stupid to insist it needs to have a different store team for the US and EU – not needed at all.

Cool, and thanks for still including PSN titles, when I heard about this I was afraid it would end up full retail titles only, and risk overlapping with a lot of stuff I already owned.

Oh, and thanks for Awesomenauts, it’s the best PvP game I’ve ever played. I’d never had tried it without PS+!

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:31

You’re very welcome! Awesomenauts really lives up to its name in my opinion.

We’ll ensure you get a good mix of top line download only PSN titles and Digital Blu-Ray.

I don’t know if am smiling with joy or crying in grief it a tough 1 to call, yes there got 12 we get crappy of ten there get SR-2 we don’t

what they didn’t say is choose said numbers so we download all for free.

but what about cloud gaming i hope the more this month keep your eyes on store updates means great stuff & E3 is still on-going.

YES!!!! it’s good to see that you guys listened and have decided to give us “proper” games instead of minis and ps1 games since i basically never played the minis or ps1 games i have got on my ps+ sub which i have had since almost its launch date but i have played a few maybe 5-10% of them the others have just been downloaded and unused. I love ps+ and now I love it even more, yay more games and more fun.

Carnivius_Prime 05 June, 2012 @ 13:59

Am a bit unclear. Is Infamous 2 free only to new subscribers? Cos I’ve been wanting that game price reduced for a year now. I rented it originally and have wanted the digital version to own but it’s always been £50 which is too much for any game. I’d rather have that than Darksiders of which I did own the disc version and didn’t enjoy at all.

Space Marine might be alright. Someone recommended it to me a while ago. I dunno. I’m not big on gaming at moment anyways. Too much crud going on occupying my mind so I tend to just stick with my faves such as Uncharted 3 and Shank 2 online.

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:32

All the listed titles are available for anyone to download and play as part of the subscription, new subscribers and old.

the only thing, and its a minor disadvantage is that the (correct me if Im wrong) us update is on 5th and european on 6th june.

I’ve got the same question as PSMako: will the games be playable through the entire Plus subscription or only until they are refreshed?

Why I ask is simple: my playtime is increasingly limited so I’ve been banking on Plus to stack up on games throughout the year to play during the summer and other small breaks I manage to get.

will tomba be included for free ps+ content? some of us still love ps1 games

Carnivius_Prime 05 June, 2012 @ 14:01

@16 please. Renegade Ops is a far, far better game than godawful Lara Croft.

I believe games will stay as long you have PS+. With so much games and 12 weeks of rotation I am sure there isn’t such kind of limitation.

I thought there was going to be different prices for PS+?

colmshan1990 05 June, 2012 @ 14:04

Excellent stuff, although I have to admit I was hoping for Vita to be included in PS+.
Any plans for that?
Similar to those above me, I’ll echo the question- can we play the games after they’ve been refreshed? I suppose we can, similar to current PS+, but am I right?

Also, who among us has a HDD big enough?!! :P

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:34

Yes, yes, yes – yours to keep as long as you remain a subscriber.

If the games do indeed become unplayable once they’re removed from the rota, then it’s a pretty shoddy service. And it’s a shame that just as Vita is about to get PS1 support we no longer get PS1 games from Plus. But still, good idea.

This is just UNBELIAVABLE!!!!! Are you sure you’re not loosing money on this? WOW!

Carnivius_Prime 05 June, 2012 @ 14:05

Also I liked PS1/PS2 games being available on Plus. I was waiting in hope of the Maximo games and Godhand appearing on Plus cos at £7.99 each they’re too expensive for old PS2 games that have no HD, online or trophy support.

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:35

I understand – I am a fan of the PSone and PS2 titles as well but we’ve made this decision based on feedback and also analysis of service uptake – they’re just not that popular and by dropping them we are able to offer you a wider selection of PSN and also the Plus Presents titles in future months.

Like I said, if an amazing PSone or PS2 game shows up I’ll be sure you guys get it in Plus.

very happy with this, i knew there was to be some disparity from what US users were offered but as a relatively recent PS+ adopter the gap doesn’t at all seem bad.

Now we just need to hear what you’re doing for PS+ on Vita!

Graftonator 05 June, 2012 @ 14:06

Seems to me that PS+ just got worse. Better games yes but no longer “forever”. What if I don’t want to play Space Marine this month? Or what if I get so into Infamous 2 that I don’t touch Motorstorm?

Glad I’ve got a few months left on my subscription before I have to make the decision to renew or not!

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:37

Games you download you do not lose access to as long as you keep up your subscription.

One question are LBP2, Infamous 2 and Motorstorm available to PS+ users who are subscribers right now or just those who renew/join?

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:36

Available to everyone.

Amazing content, already got most of the games though (besides Warhammer and Apocalypse). I fully support the direction that PLUS is taking, must admit though that I’m puzzled how this works out on Sony’s side.

almighty-slayer 05 June, 2012 @ 14:06

My only suggestion is to extend to Vita.

AllytheBruce 05 June, 2012 @ 14:06

Presumably it’s still going to work the same, even once a title vanishes after its 12 weeks we can use it for the duration of our plus membership right?

Are these games free for LIFE, or are they only valid for the length of your subscription? I only got LBP1 and Stacking free with my 1 year membership, everything else expired. Please tell me SOME of these games will be ours to keep and not simply rented.

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:40

Duration of subscription only I’m afraid. If you ideologically disagree with subscription services then Plus still won’t be for you.

Carnivius_Prime 05 June, 2012 @ 14:07

@36 I have a 640GB drive and it’s plenty big enough for me. Well, since I started getting rid of stuff I don’t actually play like the tedious Resident Evil games and some other large ‘freebies’ (Tomb Raider Underworld is a joke right? Awful game).

Fruit_Loop_1969 05 June, 2012 @ 14:08

Well done guys!!!! You have definitely pulled out ALL the stops this time!!!

Games for the future:-

Any Bioshock game
Any Dead Space game
Resident Evil 5
Or is that pushing the boat out to far :-O lol!!!

Well done though, pat on the back well deserved!!!

So Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, and all those other games listed there today, are free for Plus-members? Awesome!

One thing though… I DON’T HAVE MY PS3 BACK YET!!!

How long will those games be available for download until they are refreshed? I really don’t want to miss out on a free VF5: Final Showdown… I’ve been securing money to buy it!

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:41

Virtua Fighter is in until July 4th – it’s the first game to change.

I’m glad I renewed my sub for another year :)

Will Vita more content ever get included in PS+ though?

when are we getting playstation plus in israel?

I like these PS+ changes but I would like to see an emphasis on rewarding early adopters/people who have owned their PS3 for a long time. What I mean by this is perhaps a shift in emphasis away from giving older title away for free which most long time gamers will already own/have played previously and instead offer more new retail titles (at more competitive rates as standard) then giving discounts that actually beat the prices of physical copies. Offering a free back catalogue is good move for a console nearing the end of its life cycle but people will remember that by waiting they get significantly better value which could harm the ps4 launch/the eternally struggling vita (in a very very small way but still…)

Ross McGrath 05 June, 2012 @ 14:42

Very considered feedback.
Don’t forget Plus is not just the games we give away as part of the subscription – keep an eye on discounts over the next month and decide for yourself.

ThePunkGypsy 05 June, 2012 @ 14:09

How are people complaining about this? You get to play 45 games through out the year for the price of buying 1. Some people just love to whine.

I’m also curious to know if the games are time limited. And if any features will be coming to my shiny new Vita.

And LOVED the E3 conference.

Thanks, I like this new plan for Plus. I liked the minis, but hardly played them, and didn’t care for the PS One games at all.
I do have some questions though:
– If I don’t like these changes, can I cancel and keep the free games I already have gotten? If not, I’m pretty locked in and have to pay for a service that changed not to my liking… (not that I am going to cancel, it’s something I think some people will wonder about)
– Can I get the games now, delete them, and download them again at a later moment, even if they are removed from the Plus offering? My HDD just isn’t big enough to hold them all, and this will definitely grow worse soon.

Thanks for the update!

Does this mean we “lose” the games after the 12 weeks? If so we should get an option to buy them at a discounted price, that would be awesome!

Fantastic! Only one question though: when does the EU PSN store usually get updated?

This is ridiculously awesome!
I don’t have time to play all these great games unfortunately. I already have too many games.

For anyone who doesn’t have a ps3 yet, this is a great incentive to get one!

I haven’t even played the first Infamous yet we got from the psn outage and you’re offering infamous2 now. I hope it stays long.

This is great! I will continue to support PS+ for as long as it exists!

I would like to see any prince of persia game in here. Those are too awesome, I think everyone should play them!
Don’t have The Forgotten Sands yet so a discount on that would be cool.

And maybe an Uncharted game. Everyone says they’re so good but don’t look interesting to me. Played for am minute and was boring. Haven’t given them a real chance to prove themselves to me though.

danielm1979 05 June, 2012 @ 14:11

Nice that we’re getting those titles for free, but those disc based games are a no-no for me.
Costs too much space and when I get a game I don’t want too delete it and redownload it… such a hassle.
Physical Copies FTW! Too bad subscription was renewed by itself last month, forgot to turn it off. Last PS+ year for me.

Vistua Fighter is nice though.

Any chance of further tweaking PlayStation Plus to include some PSP/PS Vita freebies?

Glad I renewed my Pus sub back in April for the year back in April. I was putting off getting Odd World because I wasn’t sure I’d like it. But it free too Plus for a time on store and kept for the duration of the sub???

Let the good times roll! :D

Thanks Ross.

suggestions for the future:

Ratchet & Clank HD collection (as you did with Sly Trilogy)
Ratchet & Clank All 4 One
Skyrim dlc when it finally appears
Mafia II
Star Ocean The Last Hope
Red Dead Redemption

GrumpyMcGrump 05 June, 2012 @ 14:12

thanks for your reply ross, that’s awesome then!!! :O

AntGreenfield 05 June, 2012 @ 14:12

Jaw meet floor!! WOW! Count me as one happy Plus subscriber :D

Thats a sweet lineup of games to kick things off!! Soooo glad I resisted temptation to buy Strangers Wrath the other night now lol That really is the kind of service Plus should’ve been from the off, got bored of most minis very quickly bar the odd few, but to have access to so many bluray titles at a time…. whats not to like??!! (Apart from lack of Vita support! Any time soon???)

Great update to the service as a whole though so thanks Ross & everyone else involved :)

Nevermind i was too hasty to commet let me get this right 6 games off the bat to tie us over rotation like i said in another post just 3 titles next month.

so we end up with ten games in total over 1 year because september a long way off so there less refresh of content then old plus new content stay longer.

i say SCEA get a much better deal like alway full 12 game of the bat.

CoolRichy008UK 05 June, 2012 @ 14:14

YE WHERE RATCHET AND CLANK COLLECTION it better be out this week im not waiting till end of june for it IDOL MINDS HURRY UP you made the game so GOD DAM PUT IT ON THE PSN STORE OR I WILL!!!!

theshortbaker 05 June, 2012 @ 14:14

Evening Ross (Aussie time of course)

Are you guys looking at reviewing the cloud data storage size?

I have a few titles that I place in the service but with titles like FIFA, NBA etc have a multiple MB (4-6 per save) and its chewing up the majority of that amazing service.

Just food for thought, I’m liking this game thing as well, just a shame I have all of them except for Virtua Fighter 5 :-)

CoolRichy008UK 05 June, 2012 @ 14:14

I’m liking this idea. Especially with the confirmation that the games do not expire as long as we keep our account active. Even when we get low hard drive space we can delete and redownload from our history.

My only issue is that the update is going up tomorrow rather than today – would have been great to use the final day of our four day weekend here in the UK to play some games!

What time is the update tomorrow? I want to try and use remote access to start the downloads while I’m at work tomorrow.

johnnyquicknives 05 June, 2012 @ 14:17

Thanks for clarifying that we keep the games as long as we subscribe Ross. A fantastic update to plus (which was already pretty great).

Sounds great, looking forward to getting a bunch of full titles although there’s been a whole load of them recently anyway!

Bit disappointed with there being no (or very rarely) PSone games and Minis available but I understand that. My question regarding this though is are we going to see more offers for PSone games/minis etc. to make up for it a little as this was something we didn’t see a whole lot of before when we were getting them for free.

Cheers and keep up the great work guys! Can’t wait until tomorrow to download a whole lot of games!

KC-alpha-14 05 June, 2012 @ 14:18

How do you figure out which games will be rotated first? Also DUST 514?

officer_cartman 05 June, 2012 @ 14:19

id be interested to know if this is the only change to ps+ as i have a feeling there is more to come this week.

RustySanderke 05 June, 2012 @ 14:20

So we get 10 games by tomorrow ? Is that right? Insanity!

Oh, yeah, with all these games we *need* more cloud space. It’s pretty much unusable for me at this point unless I go back and disable auto-uploading savegames on everything I have, the moment I delete anything to free up space, the auto-update fills it back up again the next night.

My suggestions:

Ratchet & Clank All 4 One
Pixeljunk Shooter & 4AM
All of those PS2 classics HD collections

Very nice. Is it likely that the games on the US plus side (and that don’t appear in the EU collection right now) appear in the EU games cycle?

Guys, stop asking if we lose those games aftet 12 weeks. Why should Sony suddenly change that you keep your games as long as you subscribe? Especially as that is part of the Plus contract.

It is so simple. 10 games (minimum) will be available online all the time for new members to download instantly. Each month there’ll be at least 3 new games, which remain online to download for 12 weeks. End of story.

Not buying the spin.

We will end up getting less content from this due to the lack of updates. Taking away the mini’s and ps1 classics is a massive kick in the face to vita owners. Getting more content than SCEA? yeah seriously doubt that, SCEE always fail to deliver, Legend of Dragoon anyone?

rock Of ages?

Excellent improvements! My hard drive is quivering in anticipation.
I can’t believe some people are -still- finding cause to moan even after this!
Haters gonna hate, I guess :/

hey ross hope your having a good time

little request since the games are changing to bluray titles is it possible with to have the File sizes included in these posts? i understand you couldnt do that today but if possible next update :)

windsorblue01 05 June, 2012 @ 14:24

do we still get the offers of free dlc every now and again i take it we still get free avatars and themes still running with the service

oh, and what guarantee do we have, that after deleting, for exaple lbp2 we will be still able to download it after, like, 3 months? I believe, that some of the games are deleting from the ps store servers forever, so does that mean, that the only way is to buy another hdd?

im well happy with this.

i only have darksiders
oddworld and infamous 2 so works out well for me.

i have saints row 2
lara croft
hard corps
sideways and zombie appocalpse

so the usa update would have been way worse for me so thanks scee.

ill take just cause 2 next month along with ratchet and clank if its on the cards, how about me2 if ea is up for it ~:)

CoolRichy008UK 05 June, 2012 @ 14:26

Ross McGrath ratchet and clank collection (kicks idol minds up the BUTT till they hear us)

WE WANT IT NOW not the 29th i bet they are playing it so we dont get it GRRRRR

windsorblue01 05 June, 2012 @ 14:26

my god how long as plus been running and people still think they lose access to a game when it comes of the plus store after they downloaded it

any more info regarding how discount will work is it on all store items like mentioned in one of the survey choices?

Fruit_Loop_1969 05 June, 2012 @ 14:29

or mass effect ;-)

I guess I was looking for new exclusive features and an extension to Vita. These are still coming, right?

Quick question:
Say you forget to subscribe again after a week or so, your PS Plus has expired and then resubscribe again the following day. Would that mean that the games downloaded from PS Plus during the course of the subscription would be deleted, or disabled on the HDD? Same question regards to the Download List.

On a tight bandwidth, but I have a 1TB of storage ;D

Oh, if you want a suggestion for kick-ass PS2 games, then I’d like the Digital Devil Saga games when they are published. That would be very nice :)

Maybe you could make the 11th game BF3? Try pitching the idea to EA as it’d be a fantastic promotion for both BF3 Premium & PS+

wow, just wow! bracing my internet connection for some heavy duty downloading tomorrow. one request from someone who already has quite an extensive game collection, is there any way we could have some more space for our cloud saves?

sephiroth180 05 June, 2012 @ 14:32

Sounds good! What about people who has been a PS+ subscriber for a long time. Do we still get inFamous 2 and Motorstorm: Apocalypse?

What happens when one does renew but signs up again later? Is the content from the previous subscription period available again?

uh andy i just noticed the avatars…..where is the giant enemy grab? totally killed any excitement this update gave *runs of crying*

What happens when one does NOTrenew but signs up again later? Is the content from the previous subscription period available again?

At this rate, i don’t have to buy anymore games cause u guys keep me busy enough. :P Nice deal :)

almighty-slayer 05 June, 2012 @ 14:34

Ross, i dislike Warhammer, and every gameplay i have seen looka incredibly dull to me. Might give it a try though

oh and may i request assassins creed Revelations as one of the games at somepoint :D be good to play again before 3

Ross, thanks for the clarification above. I take back everything I said!

This is really ace improvement guys, some great games I never got round to trying and looking forwsrd to the indie games cos that’s what I like about PSN, for me the PSone and Mini’s are nothing special.

damnit said andy instead of ross lol totally my bad…….i’ll get my coat

WilledLexington 05 June, 2012 @ 14:39

I don’t know how happy I am about this, sure PS3 games a great to get for free but its not a coincidence that the day we’re told the PS Vita will be getting PS One games soon that we’re also told we’re going to stop getting them on +

ThePunkGypsy 05 June, 2012 @ 14:39

One the game suggestion front. I’d love to see Metal Gear Solid 4 get on there,

I think quite a few of us have interpreted “these titles will be replaced” as “these games will be removed from your PS3 and replaced with others”. Ross just replied that I misunderstood, so I apologise. It means the titles will be replaced with others in the store, so you’ve just got to get them by the stated dates.

Will we still get the little things like themes and avatars?
Speaking of avatars, when will we get Marvel vs Capcom avatars? I really want a Deadpool avatar.

extermin8or_ 05 June, 2012 @ 14:40

Hmm I want to resubscribe to ps plus now (i let it slide a few months back) however at the same time I want new ps vita games :/ now which to choose :p

OK, this is definitely a very impressive offer. I’ve never been a plus member so I have 2 questions:

Will I have the option to buy VF5, for example, at a discount so I can keep it after my sub ends or is the free download the only option?

If I let my sub expire and then renew a few months from now will the games still be there?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

morpheus2n2 05 June, 2012 @ 14:41

@Ross McGrath Ok with all these games now coming to PS+ I think we need a firmware update that supports external drives as my 750gb drive in my PS3 now only has about 40GB left :( and seen as 750GB is the largest 2.5 drive I can find I need more options for space as deleting games and re-downloading them at later date is not a option??

Good stuff. Shame I already have or have had most of the games in the line up and I’m not too keen on Virtua Fighter to be honest.

On the idea of some Vita related Plus incentives, I thought it might be an idea to put MGS Peace Walker on PSP (I assume it works on the Vita as well) up for Plus members when the Vita MGS collection comes out in a few weeks, seeing as the HD version of it has been omitted from the Vita version. I’m actually very surprised Konami didn;t go the route of including a voucher to download Peace Walker with it as part of the anti-pre-owned initiative.

Just a thought.

Ross, have the rates of subscription changed?

I understand that the US now has a monthly subscription. Is that the same as over here? Will the yearly subscription remain, will it be going up?

I was never to fond of the PS Plus program. I understand the perks of it for some people, but as somebody who lacks the time to play a lot and carefully picks the games he wants to play a program like that doesn’t add much value.

This however could make me change my mind. I’ll see how it turns out in the future (as for now I’ve got the games on the list I want, and I’m not planning on playing the others)

kingcrowbaruk 05 June, 2012 @ 14:44

Is there ever going to be the possibility to buy games outright while still subscribed to Plus?

At the moment if you have it downloaded from Plus then there is no way to buy until the end of the subscription.

I’d like the opportunity to buy even though I have the content for free just incase I choose not to or I am unable to re-subscribe.

I’m guessing the store has no way to differentiate between rented and bought content and it’s just stored in the DRM wrapping the downloads instead.

that is awesome, but my hard drive is giving me the evil eye.

Awesome, people who still complain not getting enough for theire money is plain stupid, and yes, for my part I have most of the games already, but just some games makes this worth it!. Just hope as many else that Vita vill also get included someday in ps+ or even get it’s own ps+ program! :)

STORMxPYTHON 05 June, 2012 @ 14:47

Ross can you if possible post the file sizes on these please as i’ve just tried working off a rough estimate and got about 70 GIG.
Also quite pleasantly surprised by infamous 2 although i’ve downloaded but not played the first one since it got offered during the psn ”outage” last year.

LIKE-NO-ONE 05 June, 2012 @ 14:47

OMG This is the best update EVER. I’m really happy that I subscribed for PS Plus when it first launched. Thank you guys.

-I think we need more space for the online storage because the current one isn’t enough if you got so many games and more to come.

-Some people are complaining that they already own some of these games. So how about making us choose between a couple this way will satisfy more members.

Sweet, lot of those i’ve been close to buying, but never pulled the trigger on.Also VF5 :)

I really do believe that you(Sony/Playstation) should have more confidence in the Vita. I’m saying this because after the E3 show I’ve got a bad feeling about it. There was more emphasis on PS move than on the VIta; or it is just me that I was expecting more… So I really hope that Plus will come to VIta as well…Either as discounts or as freebies, this way will entice people to buy a vita especially if they already have a PS+ subscription.

Oh my God, good job guys! Also, I know it’s been said before in the comments, but please expand the service to PS Vita as well, and maybe even to PSP games that I can play on my Vita :D!

Phoenixfire90 05 June, 2012 @ 14:53

Well, I’ve got a few requests for you Ross, since Sony’s in a generous mood today:
Ratchet & Clank All4One (like the US)
Metal Gear Solid 4
Modnation Racers
Bioshock (since Big Daddy’s in All Stars Battle now)
Uncharted 1 & 2
Batman Arkham Asylum
Heavy Rain
PS1 Spyro games (when released)
And last but not least, Portal 2.
…. Not that I’m asking for much.
Before anyone says I know pigs might fly first but what was that flying past my window just now. :)

where is Spyros? Still yet no any of them….

Great news but I was dissapointed by the lack of Playstation Plus support for the Vita. There is really is not much reason to buy PSS if you dont own a PS3 :-(

jimmybignuts 05 June, 2012 @ 14:55

This is a fantastic addition to ps+ well done sony, great line up for the first batch of games too!!

pillaysteven 05 June, 2012 @ 14:55

Saints Row 2 and Just Cause 2 would be nice, like the US PS+ got.

Not complaining though, fantastic update and service, just a pity I have a lot of the games already.

Still nice to have a digital copy of LBP2, and I’ve wanted to try Motorstorm for a while.

This type of service is kind of unprecedented isn’t it… it’s almost hard to believe. Well done Sony :).

Hi there Ross!

First of all, you MUST update the post with a caps lock bold sentence stating that although the free games rotate, once you download them they’re yours to keep and play an re-download if need, as long as you keep being a PS+ subscriber. That seems to be confusing a lot of people :)

Second, well done! I already have some of those games, but that’s just because of how awesome they were. It’s a pretty cool list to start off any PS3 player, and I for one am glad!

As for future games, have you considered pushing more games that are about to have a sequel, like Darksiders? I would like to see games such as Borderlands and GTA4 and AC: Revelations (not the Ottoman Edition, of course).

LIKE-NO-ONE 05 June, 2012 @ 14:57

Please give us Rachet & Clank All for One. US Store is getting it.

Great!!! Only question is, how will I find the time to play all these games!?!

xXCandyMan342Xx 05 June, 2012 @ 15:05

This is great news, amazing value, many thanks Sony, the competition has nothing on you, Xbox Live Golold xD

commando-robbo 05 June, 2012 @ 15:05

amazing!! I hope there is a 1 terabyte PS3 model in the works for this game wave!! :-)

Can you please list alongside the games the storage space that they require. That would help me manage my hdd.

@carlosdfn (109)
The answers to your questions:
2.Yes but I heard people complaining in the past about issues with the license expired (that hopefully are fixed now)

Huono_peleis 05 June, 2012 @ 15:08

I tried, but couldn’t come up with anything to moan about. :(

strangeplaice 05 June, 2012 @ 15:09

Kingdom Hearts 2 for PS2 please! :P

Not a clue why I suggested it but it’d be great. I want more PS2 games on my 40GB D: Please just enable the BluRay drive :'(

This really is brilliant news!!
I can see the PS Plus subscriber base increasing by a rather large amount ;)

I wish we had the conformation that scee was closed and scea where running the same excelent service here as they do in the US.
I’m glad the mini’s are gone but again I rather had the US plus then this crap.

PLUS was already a great deal but this is the icing on the cake!

Well done on the new PLUS entitlements. I only have 12gb left but I can activate all the downloads & download them fully, when I have space left ;)

Very happy indeed!

Great job, really. I subscribed to Plus since day 1 and I’ve never regreted it. And I think we got better games than NA.
Keep up the good work :)

Graftonator 05 June, 2012 @ 15:14

Thanks for the reply Ross, I stand corrected, it is improving on what I think was already an excellent service! Better games and “forever”. Well played, I’ll be renewing and bullying my friends until they become members too!

JammieDodgerz 05 June, 2012 @ 15:17

Amazing update, can’t wait til tomorrow!

I agree with the rest, All4One in the next update pwease!! ;)

@133 Its just a matter of replacing your HDD. :D

kinglambert 05 June, 2012 @ 15:22

I’ve never paid a second thought to subscribing to Playstation Plus…Until now.
The only thing that worries me is the chances of me owning future PS+ content due to the amount of games I already own. From the current PS+ update I own Infamous 2, Outland and LBP2

I think I may give the 90 day subscription a spin

Can I also make a recommendation for a future PS+ update? I’d like to see Vandal Hearts. It’s a game I’ve wanted to play but I’ve never been able to justify the price. PS+ would be great chance to try it out

What a fantastic update this Is :) Looking forward to these games.

Can you please resolve this issue one my favorite game is not working it wont let me download full game unlock on for Critter Crunch from the store. I recently renewed by PS+ subscription, it was offered with PS+ awhile back now its say I gotta buy.

Its no longer on my download list either, Thankz

I just want to say that I’m happy, really happy, inFamous2, Motostorm: Apocalipse and LBP2 ate the 3 games I didn’t bought because I just couldn’t, and now I get them all on PSN+.

Thank you playstation!!!

Great update!

Last week I wanted to subscribe to PS Plus to buy the Ultimate Editions of LA Noire and Mafia II. After reading about them on the US blog I was waiting all day for the store to update, but discovered later we didn’t get those.
Will we be seeing the Ultimate Editions in our store in the near future?

cool, i am not worried about the 2 other free games we missed as i don’t have time to play them all anyway with retail games being so frequent, i just hope that sony have sorted out the problem of games expiring when you renew your subscription prior to the expiry date of your PS+, they just disappear which is a shame, i have been reluctant to renew because of this although PS+ is still good value for money though, i wouldn’t get to play any of these games if i brought them separate.

@ mob_uk this is what i am talking about, this problem has to be resolved before i renew again.

PsychoDantis 05 June, 2012 @ 15:31

Hurm. This is unfortunate for me. I signed up for PS Plus last month, specifically for the PS1 and PS2 titles. Seems that Silent Hill and Max Payne are the only ones I’ll get to play.

There’s a lesson to be learned from this, but I’m not sure what it is.

Im so sorry, so sorry I’m tired i only had 3 hour sleep after E3 had end :(

i did more number maths you are spot on ross we rato faster so we get more content then scea gets plus 1 extra that don’t count dont think SCEA got that.

anyway here my maths:

you set off 10 games 3 of them are there for a full year that makes the other 6 changeable but 1st change is the game of the month.

then 3 of the 6 get change the other 3 have to wait a other time to get change.

so 3x new games x12 month = over 45 games.

that right ross.

Actually I must admit I’m a little disappointed that we don’t get Saints Row 2 on this side of the pond, can you tells us Ross if this is likely to be addressed at any point or is it a publisher issue between US/EU?

Nightmare966 05 June, 2012 @ 15:36

OK Ross, you guys at SCEE gained one more suscriber with this ;)

Question I have: I know free Plus games are useable only while on suscription. What happens if I couldn’t renew for 6 months and re-joined, would I still have access to previous content?

Uar2bePWNDagain 05 June, 2012 @ 15:38

Wow thanks so much Ross and the PSN plus team! This is amazing ;) I can’t wait to play Infamous 2 :D

Well this update to the service sounds good to me & I’m happy to hear you won’t be focusing on giving us Minis anymore, with ps1&2 games I’d rather be given discount on as there isn’t that many of them I would want.

What I would like to see next is Vita being apart of Psn+ to.

dividsmythe 05 June, 2012 @ 15:40

Gosh I’m going to need a 10 terabyte hdd lol.So glad that I never bought Chime. I loved the demo but had too little cash at the time. Shame I just dont time to play as much as when I was skint.

Uar2bePWNDagain 05 June, 2012 @ 15:40

How are people still complaining about this :p

Btw, does anyone/does Ross know how to see when your subscription is over? I’d like to know when I need to renew ;)

Freddyboy45 05 June, 2012 @ 15:43

I would really like to get Just Cause 2. When I saw it on the big screen as one of the US games at the press conference, I was hoping that we would get it, too. Is there any possibility of getting it next month, or…?

@154 I recently re-subscribed to + and was able to re-download Burnout Paradise which I got for Free when we all had our free PS+ after the PSN outage, so you should be good.

@ Nightmare966 if you don’t renew within 6 months you will lose your cloudsaves in cloud storage & that be sad it save me from grief my saves are safe.

like catkiller said this is iceing of the cake great AAA titles FREE at the expense off cutting back on minis & Ps1 classics & 2 PSN titles.

if they still do the old plus & if do vita plus i can see a price hike in plus services.

Hey, Ross any chance on getting the Metal Gear Solid HD collection in there? or even the Fallout games. Now im gonna get my Plus subscription
on Friday xD

Nothing for me. Another £40 saved along with the pathetic attempt at money laundering through Battlefield 3 DLC, a complete ripp off!!

So glad i just upgraded my hdd to 1tb, sounds like i’m gonna need it!
Also think it might be time to switch autodownloads back on!
Only concern with this is now we are not getting free minis and psone titles i’ll be getting no more free stuff for my ps vita!
Free Music unlimited service for plus members would be suitable compensation (or a discount)

CoolRichy008UK 05 June, 2012 @ 15:54

@62 Ratchet & Clank HD collection IS OUT THIS MONTH and it better be out before end of june

Hey Ross,

Any chance of popping the file sizes onto the main thread next to each one? Just so I know how much room to clear on my HDD in preparation for tomorrow :)

CoolRichy008UK 05 June, 2012 @ 15:56

RemyX-1988 awwww LOL

mullet-mania 05 June, 2012 @ 15:56

X Men Arcade

It would be great to get a discount or as a freebie sometime, ive been waiting to pick this up for ages. :D. Thanks

Nightmare966 05 June, 2012 @ 16:00

@160: Thanks a lot for answering, now it’s even better! :D

So instead of expanding onto the Vita you pull back from it altogether? Disappointing.

instead off this how about improving the godamn store for once we have the most lackluster contnt on any regions store. we still missing army off content and before we know it well be getting the same games again like so many times.
this isen’t even a improvement start with actually getting more ps1 classics and other gamesfor psn. SCEE is nothing but a laughing stock which hasen’t improved in 5 years. atleast SCEA has something 2 show with psplus they got content 2 show how great PSplus is you guys got old content that the plus users keep getting offered over and over again.

No Ratchet and Clank baffles me – it’s Sony’s game, so licence is non-issue. Loves Chime and Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath.

Also yet again, customers paying way more get 10 games instead of 12 – not that I care any more, don’t have time to play through my backlog and will probably have even less.

I suppose going to unified PS+ experience is not something Sony cares about – strange and confusing decision IMO, but what do I know.

A stroke of pure genius! Wish we had this earlier on PS+ but better late than never.

Well looking forward to playing them.

The boys done good!

Man bugar och tackar.

Allways thought ps+ was the best deal i’ve bought on psn
and you just made it a whole lot sweter.

This is brilliant. Some may say the US gets better games but that can be argued.

Having less games at the start but rotating more is better.

Pana-Wan_Kenobi 05 June, 2012 @ 16:13

a few questions:

1. These free games, are they available to 3-month subscribers?
2. If a game is removed from the games library, will it be still available to subscribers who have already downloaded it?
3. If my subsription expires and i renew it after a few months, will i still have the content i had before?
4. I am browsing the PS Store on my PS3 but i cannot see these games to be free

Thank you

Will we get the PSVita version of Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath HD when it’s released?

A great revamp. Never really got into minis and well, i already played and finished most ps1 titles when I was a kid. I was already glad I purchase plus a few months ago (I mean recieving Trine2, Shanks2, far cry 2 and shift2 for free was balls) now I feel I’ve just died and gone to heaven.
