PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale: Heavenly Sword’s Nariko And MediEvil’s Sir Daniel Fortesque Step Up

The doors to the PAX convention centre are officially open here in Seattle. The show is now in full swing, and so are our character reveals! We already unveiled Evil Cole and Raiden this week, and now we have two more characters that we’re announcing at the show today.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale: Nariko

Heavenly Sword’s Nariko has joined the cast PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale! Heavenly Sword’s cinematic experience and engaging gameplay dazzled gamers in 2007, an experience we wish to re-create for those playing as Nariko in PlayStation All-Stars. Nariko has proven to be a strong female lead, and was a prime candidate for inclusion in the roster.

During Nariko’s combo attacks, players can trigger different actions during key poses within her offense. This opens up defensive options such as dodging, jumping, or parrying mid-combo, or offensive options such as continued combo attacks or juggle starters. She also has several projectile attacks to harass opponents with from a distance. During her level 3 super, Nariko uses the full power of the Goddess to devastate the battlefield with attacks inspired from her Level 3 Super Style attacks from Heavenly Sword.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale: Sir Daniel

For all the old-school PlayStation fans out there, we’ve included Sir Daniel Fortesque in our roster! The older crowd might remember this skeletal knight from SCE Cambridge Studios’ MediEvil series, widely regarded as a PlayStation classic and praised for its quirky style and fun gameplay. It’s been 14 years since Sir Daniel’s video game debut, and he’s ready to shake the rust off his armour to do battle with the rest of the PlayStation All-Stars cast.

Sir Daniel is a crowd-control character who is able to build heavy amounts of AP while in the middle of the action. He brings several weapons to the battle including his axe, chicken drumstick, crossbow, and even his various skeletal appendages, all taken directly from the MediEvil series. He also has his trusty broadsword and shield, the latter which can be equipped during battle to absorb damage and strengthen his charge attacks. His super attacks are more magical in nature, summoning the power of his lightning orb, Golden Chalice, and even Zarok’s Anubis Stone to KO opponents.

If you happen to be at PAX this weekend, please stop by the PlayStation booth to go hands-on with all four of our new characters. We’ll also have some cross-play PS3 / PS Vita matches happening, so you’ll want to check those out as well! SuperBot’s Creative Director, Omar Kendall, will be at PAX this weekend too, so if you see him around the show floor let him know what you think of the game! We always look forward to meeting you and hearing your feedback. Enjoy the show!

Ya know what? Yes I’ve said before I hate Smash Bros gameplay (though this game does sound like it has better, more in depth fighting action) but this has me interested cos it really does seem like a celebration of the entire PlayStation range’s superb variety of great characters. You got the ones who have enjoyed the limelight of million selling frachises like Drake and Kratos and then you got some like these two who starred in great games but never quite hit the big time and it’s great to see them return. :)

YES! Loved Medievil when it was originally released when I was a little kid.

Handige_Harry 31 August, 2012 @ 18:18

Nariko! Lovely , hope to see more female characters!

Come on! Put Kat from Gravity Rush, let’s at least say that theres a fighter from PSVita game.

More great additions to the roster! I can’t imagine what could make it even better (*cough* Kat *cough*)

ryannumber3gamer 31 August, 2012 @ 18:30

There should be a post about Crash’s birthday……and maybe a post that says Crash in PS all stars.

I’m still concerned about no ring outs and the added tension those bring.Hopefully I’ll get in the beta.It feels like a game you should play, rather than listening to other people’s opinions.

Handige_Harry 31 August, 2012 @ 18:32

Kat would be lovely indeed! she’s a great fighter!

Am I the only one who thinking the time is right for a next (current) gen Medievil game?

Raise hands!

ryannumber3gamer 31 August, 2012 @ 18:37

@Osahi There should be a new Medievil game, A new Parappa the rapper game and the one i really want to see happen A new Jak & Daxter.

supersmith2500 31 August, 2012 @ 18:40

Now if Superbot got the right to use Square-Enix characters. Cloud and Lara Croft please!

1. Square-Enix owns rights to every franchise Eidos/Crystal Dynamics used to own.
2. They are true icons
3. Nuff said.

Even though, it’s unlikely.

almighty-slayer 31 August, 2012 @ 18:40

I <3 Heavenly Sword and Nariko (+ Kai!) Great to see her in the game. I'm playing MediEvil for the first time now (on my Vita) and Sir Dan is a really good character. Well done Sony/SuperBot for digging him out of the archives.

ryannumber3gamer 31 August, 2012 @ 18:43

@Supersmith, And Sora & Riku from Kingdom Hearts.

Must buy!!!!!! Also i whould like to see Abe in the game..

already got a preorder.. but i want more characters in this game!!! new at TGS??

Kat please.

Hmm… i wonder if there is a Counter-Terrorist playable? ;)

Sry, just Kidding.

I hope i will be in the Beta. Looked at the Game at Gamescom, sadly no time to play it. Looks very funny! Love that there is Parappa!!!

Oh and we need a new Parappa Game please!

Fantastic, Sir Dan, it will be great seeing him again, same for Nariko, it is a shame both their series have both been kind of left to die currently. I thin MediEvil would make a great PSN series of smaller games.

You blog guys, if you could pass this on to whoever deals with PS1 games, but it would be great seeing MediEvil 2 on the PlayStation Store along with some of the older titles coming like the Spyro games.

I was talking about your constant nagging on SO MANY articles on the PS Blog, I wasn’t talking about whether you have the game or not. (Which I don’t believe either).

Your negativity and overall attitude resembles that of an internet “troll”, thus my comment.

supersmith2500 31 August, 2012 @ 21:03

Seriously wolf your trolling skills make me laugh and yet you fail at it, try harder next time son.

Top 5 – Most depressing game characters ever

Top 1 – Most depressing game character ever would be supersmith2500 good luck trying to type back after that happen to you!

Curious if they’ve gotten Anna Torv back for Nariko now that she’s busy with Fringe.

COOL:P I still hope Crash & Snake & Lara join the game?:P They just remind me of my PS1 days;) & would make this the best game ever.

I want the beast as boss

We need crash,spyro and sonic
They all legends

you are so sad lol

love nariko’s combos, her and raiden seem like my kind of characters

Heavenly Sword 2 and MediEvil 3, please? :)

ChameleonVector 01 September, 2012 @ 12:43

Sir Daniel Fortesque! <3 I was so hoping that he'd be joining. :D

I wish Heavenly Sword would have got some more love from Sony. The game wasn’t a big seller because it was because the PS3 was just in it’s overpriced infancy. The game had it’s problems but it was good and would grow into an amazing franchise like Uncharted. it’s kind of painfull to see it return in this fighting game and not in it’s own advanture.

Nariko is hardly a strong female lead with that sexist “clothing”.

This is a test

ABE ABE ABE! Add him add him add him :D And a few others Chris, Lara croft? Ezio? Where are they!? :P

TheOdd_Gentleman 07 September, 2012 @ 21:11

Abe from Odd World. He would be a great addition to this game.

Also cortez from the timesplitters
