Paint Park contest winners revealed

Paint Park Competition

Hi everyone. I’m happy to announce the winner and runners-up of our recent Paint Park competition.

Paint Park on PlayStation Vita is a free application which allows you to draw colourful illustrations using the touchscreen and your fingers.

We were very excited about the high number of responses to the contest back in July. We received hundreds and hundreds of images from all over the SCEE region. Thank you so much for those who entered the competition!

So, who is the winner? Dan Moore, Creative Director of renowned design agency Studio Output, chose one talented winner and three excellent runners-up.

“We are all very impressed with the thought and technical skill that’s gone into all these pieces,” says Dan, who helps co-ordinates the digital gallery on PlayStation Store. “What’s interesting is how the artists really seem to have mastered the technique of drawing on PS Vita and how it produces unique results.”

Here are the winners, along with their entries and what Dan thought of them.

First prize: Copies of Uncharted: Golden Abyss, WipEout 2048, Little Deviants, Gravity Rush and Resistance: Burning Skies for PS Vita.

What Dan thought:

“We all love his use of colour, the striking composition and the stylised approach he’s used on the face – it’s a really accomplished piece of work.”

Runners-up prize:
A copy of Resistance: Burning Skies for PS Vita.

What Dan thought:

“A lovely Japanese-inspired landscape with unique use of block colour, something no other entry had really done.”

Jesús Vilaboa

What Dan thought:

“A wacky take on PS Vita in space – we love the character and sense of humour this piece has and the bold use of colour.”

“A truly digital abstract!”

Congrats to the winners. KingaKillerka was my personal fave.

Very nice Guys!
I really like the winning one! It is really really good!

VitalogyPJ 9 October, 2012 @ 12:09 pm   3

First of all, congrats to all.

Now I can’t help leaving me opinion about the selection, which I think KingaKillerka’s one should have been the winner, although there both (winner and first runner-up) different styles, I think the land scape really stand out to the eye and you can see a great use of the limited palet.

Yeah, I think KingaKillerka should have won too.

Maybe throw a few extra vita titles his way if you have some lying around? 😛 The winning choice is an excellent piece, and deserves the great top prize, but Killerkas landscape is something that is much more stylish, and could easily become a theme background on anyones vita. (s)he deserves credit for that.

Firts, gratz to the winners.

I feel a bit disappointed since we had to wait 2 months to see the winners. Also, I thought we can see more of the pictures, if hundreds of pictures arrived, maybe you can show more of them.

For my personal view I think my picture was better than some of the winner ones (ya I know it depends taste by taste), if you are interested in see it here:

Just like everyone else, I think KingaKillerka should have won

best painting out there is the one by KingaKillerka, anyway congrats to all winners.

Zoubergool your painting is awesome too. i wish i was this talented but sadly i can’t even draw a bird.

I just can’t believe that those artworks won… Zoubergool and KingaKillerka OK, they are really great! but the others 2? little disappointed… my drawing should be also on the winner list… you can see my arts on youtube under KAZTEL69 profile…

@#8 I must say that, after seeing ALL your desings, 99% of ’em could have been the winner. The last 2 runner-ups when compared to your work don’t even stand a change for a “fair fight”.

I would be very disappointed just like you.

bennyrafal 9 October, 2012 @ 2:36 pm   10

KingaKillerka rules 🙂

8# Which one of your paintings did you send to the competition?

ANyuszko 9 October, 2012 @ 4:22 pm   12

#8 Just like you, I am disappointed as well… See mine at #5.

From these winners there is only one who worths a prize (wont tell which but you can find out). Almost any of your artwork could win. Ok I can accept that a drawing competition is almost 100% subjective and is hard to decide which is better and which not. But there are some things which are hard to accept:

– Two months passed since its closing and we hear about the winners only today

– Today I was searching the net and realized that the winners revealed almost 3 weeks ago
and we had to wait 3 weeks to see it here

– No more pictures were revealed, showing what others could paint only these 4 winners

– If I were a product manager I would reply comments more often, not only 0-3 times in a single post…

Again, gratz to the winners, it is not against you, you did your job well as you could. But the competition and especially the closing it was much unfair from Sony.

the last one looks very much like the screen on the smartphone I broke once

Number 2 should have won by a longshot, rest are good, way better than I could ever do but I’d like to see the other offerings

ODirtyB_69 9 October, 2012 @ 4:39 pm   14

where can I get number 2 as a Vita background?

VitalogyPJ 9 October, 2012 @ 4:48 pm   15

Choose the size you want and then right click the picture and save it 😉

KillerXp82 9 October, 2012 @ 6:47 pm   16

I’d feel pretty cheated if I’d entered this.

Congrats to all but my personnal fav has to go to KingaKillerka.

Sometimes the simplest things are winning. Good luck next time 😉

Darkliquid 10 October, 2012 @ 7:45 am   19

Hmmm I think i’m going to agree with Dan Moore on this one rather than the general consensus of comments here that KingaKillerka should of won.(No disrespect, its a great picture)

Out of the four I to would of picked Zoubergool’s entry. There is something about it that grabs my attention more than the others. It’s simple yet striking at the same time. The eye’s really draw you in and there looks to be a sadness to them. Also the way in which the nose has been draw kind of looks like a tear almost. Not sure that was intentional but its pretty smart if it was.

That all said I know next to nothing about art and the above is just my personal opinion. Good job to all and I agree with others that it would be great to see some of the other entries please.
