Weekend Debate: The ultimate gaming night

I don’t know about you, but the Christmas party season is well and truly in full swing in my corner of the world. Shamefully, I’ve already lost count of the number of mince pies I’ve stowed away. I’m hoping to get some pictures and eye-witness reports from the various holiday bashes taking place in Sony-affiliated studios around the globe over the next week or two, to share with you all over the Christmas down-time. Brace yourselves!

Duly, your debate topic this week is, I hope, nice and timely:

You’re throwing a gaming night with friends – or ‘party’ if you prefer. What three games do you line up, and why?

I want to hear about snack choices and fancy dress themes too, if you please!

Suitably, I’ve got 8 download codes for the thoroughly excellent Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed for PS Vita for the most entertaining responses. See Eurogamer’s considered review for more insight into why it’s a true multiplayer treat and a must for the Sega faithful.

Did you enjoy this?

My gaming party night would have to include just dance! That would really liven the party up whilst providing those who can’t join in straight away something amusing to watch πŸ˜›
But before we got to energetic with just dance, I think I’d start with modnation racers and a little slapstick fun on rayman origins πŸ˜€
Invites are in the post!

Game 1 – FIFA 13 – The best football game, and to really rub salt into the wounds, play as Coventry (2.5*) v Barca (5*) just to really show off.

Game 2 – Call of Duty Black Ops 2 – Loudest shooter, who really is better with that sniper?

Game 3 – Blur – Real cars meets Mario Kart… epic carnage and last minute sprints to the finish line ensure a close race.

for me no gaming party is complete at my house with out a bout of singstar, the reason for this is its usually a mixed group and both males and females are well up for a game after a few drinks and it is a right laugh.

i usually then whack on a kart racing game on my ps2 and that is crash nitro kart and again it works well for both sets of gamers in my house.

after a few hours when my wifes pals are getting a bit bladdered they just want music on and thats when i fire on a fifa tournament for the boys.

good times

Right, time to announce this week’s winners. First Sonic code here for Mr Hayzink. Nice suggestions!

Counterstrike. Random match. Best game to fake that we are all just one team and that I’m still the king who safes everyone’s asses. Or not.

A MOBA game, either League of Legends or DOTA 2. Because there you really play to win or die as a team. Exceptions don’t matter. πŸ˜‰

Mario Kart. Because it sucks when luck isn’t on your side. And because it’s great when that happens to a friend.

Perhaps I should mention Timesplitters too to increase my chances to win, but I’ll play fair. This time. πŸ™‚

forgot my snack choices

chilli heatwave doritos all the way:)

chrisboers 7 December, 2012 @ 4:14 pm   6

Game 1: Singstar. Yes, many have cursed the icon on the xbar, but I actually have a few discs with Singstar songs on it, so that should really be fun! What better fun than to impersonate Freddie Mercury after a few drinks?

Game 2: Sports Champion 2. I have a move set, and this game lying around. Whole my friends are not the sporty types, I bet I can get them to duke it out with boxing!

Lastly, Playstation Allstars Battle Royale. As I have a PS3 AND a Vita, at least two could combat at the same time (Vita vs PS3). All-out (virtual) slugging is always the best way to end the perfect gaming party πŸ™‚

Bassmonkey_Mike 7 December, 2012 @ 4:14 pm   7

FIFA 13, Little Big Planet Karting, & Sports Champions 2. (& a little vodka).

i should also point out that my answer is not a what if answer its what i actually do πŸ™‚

have over 150 downloaded tracks in singstar for this exact reason πŸ˜‰

chrisboers 7 December, 2012 @ 4:15 pm   9

(In truth all but Playstation Allstars Battle Royale, I actually have in my collection πŸ™‚ Battle Royale is not far behind!)

Mortal kombat 9 – so I can beat my friends into a bloody mess and humiliate them with a babality!

Play station all stars – an all out 4 player brawl, nothing like beating kratos with fat princess!

Guitar hero 5 – to patch things ups after dealing many defeats and beatings, what better is there to do than rock out together to “2 minutes to midnight” by iron Maiden?

Some fun, memorable nights thanks to these games πŸ™‚

if i play whith friends = online
cod – bf – ore good online rpg game whitout monthly fee

sonwilliam 7 December, 2012 @ 4:18 pm   12

well my 3 games would be

1: PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale simply because it’s a great party fighting game and a lot of fun when 4 people go at it

2: COD Black Ops Zombies well what can i say it’s zombies ^_^

3: Gran Turismo 5 pick a car then pick a track and see who can get the fastest time it’s a lot of fun

as for snacks we don’t do snacks we order some great big pizzas have a few drinks and just enjoy ourselves

Furiekins 7 December, 2012 @ 4:19 pm   13

Wrecked|Revenge Revisited up first. Four player local mode is a killer amount of fun. It’s superb entertainment for everybody and even if you constantly lose, you can always get revenge.

Move then on to the ridiculous Awesomenauts to get everybody into the cheesy 80’s mood. In teams, you can really get some competition going.

Once everyone is relaxed, it’s then time to break out Rock Band and upsetting the neighbours. It’s a different way to enjoy music as the evening goes on and everyone can have a go at something.

kraideral 7 December, 2012 @ 4:21 pm   14

Fifa 13 cause where there is football, there will be always fun.
Most Wanted cause we all have the need for speed.
And finally Battlefield 3 cause killing people is more fun with friends. Throw in a couple of pizzas and a keg of beer and this is what I call a night to remember πŸ˜€

Timesplitters 2 for old times sake and 4p splitscreen (or warhawk if I don’t have ps2 out)

Rockband 2 to get everyone loud and involved plus I spent too much on dlc to not play it.

Zen pinball 2 for some end of night competition in a more relaxed atmosphere and maybe to show off the 3d.

I may also put on Okami HD as people leave just to show off how pretty and slightly crazy it is.

One haloween playing rockband we had a ghost on bass, vampire on vocals, wolverine of the xmen on guitar and father Christmas on drums.

Oh I didn’t mention Pain…

– Playstation All-Stars Battle Royal… PURE FUN!! No way my friend will beat me though.. not a chance. Hint: Parappa The Rapper πŸ˜›

– Dark Souls… We stay up all night having sleep overs while playing through this game.. too hard yet too addictive and challenging. We take turns whenever someone feels hopeless LOL!. Let’s hope we beat it this weekend.

– FIFA 13… Not much of a football fan but playing against my buddies in this one gets really competitive.

Evil-LoPo 7 December, 2012 @ 4:23 pm   17

First game will be Little Big Planet. This game right here makes everything better. Just slap your friends and laugh.

The second game Playstation All Stars Battle Royal. Everyone loves playstation characters and it is fun to beat your friends with sackboy πŸ˜›

The third game will be Tekken Tag Tournament 2.

NBA Jam on fire edition – Great fun with friends.
Singstar – No1 knows how to sing what lead to great laugh .
LBP 2 – Great game which is even better with friends .

If im playing online my favourite was MGO .

TomDent_XD 7 December, 2012 @ 4:25 pm   19

As soon as my mates arrive we would order a dominos (delivery obviously, leaving the house to collect would be crazy talk)

While we wait, a session of littlebigplanet 2 would begin so we can get creative and smack each other around a little bit. Also the basketball mini game on littlebigplanet 2 is a must play so we would probably end up on that until the pizzas arrive.

While eating I think I would choose dirt 3 for us to play, simply to try and best eachother on gymkhana or our rally times as we can take this in turn while we are going to town on our mighty meaty and Hawaiian pizzas (yep, I chose the types of pizzas)

To finish it all off would be a massive Playstation All Stars Battle Royale tournament. 1) because me and my mates absolutely love this game and 2) it’s just damn awesome. Also from the competitiveness of our Dirt 3 session we would be pumped up and ready to game.

    Fred Dutton 11 December, 2012 @ 9:12 am

Another Sonic winner here. I never had LBP pegged as a party game but, yeah, I guess it could work rather nicely!

Game 1 – CoD Black Ops for a round of tomohawk, ballistic knife and nuketown matches. Usually this ends with my friend running around like a madman trying to find more ballistic knifes

Game 2 – Star Wars Battlefront 2, an old (but certainly not forgotten gem). Wampas v Rebels is always a tense match. (Also could you try and get this on the psn store please!)

Game 3 – Walking Dead the Game is always a blast. Me and one of my friends have finished it but I put one of my other friends on it to see what choices they would make and now its a regular thing at one of my gaming parties

Dress Code – Anything comfortable, we could be here a while πŸ˜›
Snacks – Pizza and Pepsi

turbogeek421 7 December, 2012 @ 4:26 pm   21

1) Sports Champions 2 – Get some bowling in to warm us up.
2) Buzz – Rev up the competition.
3) Rock Band – Singing and dancing our way to daylight!

Fancy dress theme: Made up Superheroes. For example: Captain Do-a-shot

Snacks of choice: Anything that isn’t going to get controllers greasy!

Wipeout HD Fury – I have yet to find a single person who doesn’t fall in love with it the minute they try it. Plus the soundtrack is spot on for the party mood.

Sports Champions – Another failsafe game that my every friend enjoyed so far. From disc golf to gladiators.

Mortal Kombat – because we’re old-school and like games that kick ass ;]

My top three games to play when friends are over:

Warhawk: Simply the best split-screen action game available on the PS3, although it is more than a couple of years old now the 4 player split-screen online option is stellar and a feature which I was sad to see removed in Starhawk (well 2P split-screen still but sadly not 4 πŸ™ )

SuperSonicAcrobaticRocketBattlePoweredBattleCars: This is another insanely fun game to be played locally with friends, for those who haven’t played it think football with RC cars and very chaotic matches!

Sports Champions: A more relaxed game that can be played by all, Sports champions always gets a play thanks to some extremely fun table tennis and archery (the other mini games are good but these always go down the best), unfortunately I have not bought the sequel yet but the addition of bowling in that game makes it a sure purchase before Christmas!

These would be the games I would play over any others, all allow 4 player’s and all are great fun but differ from each other!

Best party game i’ve ever played with a group is Bishi Bashi Special on the ps1.It’s so funny,i’ve never played another game were everybody was in bits laughing. So many mini games and all great fun.And the names of them is ridiculous, shake the can into outer space, the not so great escape and jump for the meat come to mind.

Speed Freaks again on the ps1.We had the multi tap so we could play 4 player split screen. The best kart racer sony ever released.Would to see on store as a classic. So much fun.

And of course Buzz.No party is complete without Buzz.

The good thing about all those games is you don’t need to be a gamer to enjoy them.Everyone can get involved and have fun

‘TimeSplitters 2’ – 4 player Split-screen with bots on the PS2 is still the best fun you can have with 4 player split-screen with mates πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜›
(GOD knows why it can’t/hasn’t been done this Gen :-/ All the FPS this Gen lack 4 player split-screen modes with Bots which upsets me, oh well) πŸ™
+ Hopefully they will do a HD update of all 3 TimeSplitters games for the PS3 if this Petition goes well –
It’s at 70K+ now!!! πŸ˜› πŸ˜› πŸ˜›

My first choice and most probably the only one is Buzz world quiz! Kinda suprized that noone mentioned it πŸ™‚

For second game i think it would be Awesomenauts and for third Bomberman.

As for snack-food choice, you never go wrong iwth pizza or gyros – souvlakia πŸ˜€

Oh, and DJ Hero would be my alternative for MK if ladies would be displeased with blood and gore ;]

ryannumber3gamer 7 December, 2012 @ 4:33 pm   28

1:PS All-Stars, It would be a good start where people can fight about who would win in a fight then try to back it up πŸ˜€

2:Little Big Planet 2, After fighting it out in All-Stars it would be nice just to take a break and have fun doing whatever you want in a game so creating a level with friends or helping or fighting them on online levels it is loads of fun.

3:Call Of Duty Zombies To finish it off it would be fun to have zombies matches let it be fighting to survive Tranzit or going through a classic map like Der Riese or Ascention. It’s always fun to come in to save teammates if their downed or they are trapped. Plus the easter eggs would be great for friends to hunt down.

Pug-zilla 7 December, 2012 @ 4:36 pm   29

The 3 games lately that get pulled out are as follows:

1: Ratchet and Clank All 4 One – This game may not be the best Ratchet but get another 3 mates and it all changes, plus as it’s early in the night we are quite sober so can play properly.

2: Rock band – As the drink flows a little the inhibitions start to go but we can still find the right buttons so we jam a little Eye of the Tiger and pretend we are in an 80’s montage.

3: Little Big Planet Karting – There is nothing funnier than drunks playing karting games, trying to put each other off and just basically having a laugh, great way to end the night.

As for snacks, would be pizza, onion rings(crisps) and bacon bites and a dip selection, sometimes the occasional cheese toasty gets made later on as well. If I had to choose a fancy dress would be steam punk or comic villains.

Superbuu3 7 December, 2012 @ 4:37 pm   30

Little Big Planet Karting – I love Kart racing games and combining LBP with a kart racing game is what made this game great, with a huge number of community levels out there we don’t have to worry about people knowing the tracks too well. That sometimes makes things too easy.

Rock Band 3 – This allows for the fun that is karaoke and all the music we will need for a good night.

All star Battle Royale – Games with as many players as possible and easy to pick up and play are the best for a gaming night so this is the perfect combination.

ryannumber3gamer 7 December, 2012 @ 4:37 pm   31

Also Fred i know this is off topic but when will Superbot fix the new glitch that has come with the newest PS All-Stars patch which has made the game unplayable.

Opt1mus76 7 December, 2012 @ 4:37 pm   32

As very few of my gamer mates live near me (as in none within 10-15 mile radius) and my shift work I’m not going for games like Streetfighter, FIFA or CoD purely because they can be incredibly frustrating to learn for casual gamers. Its not that I wouldn’t play them but I’m thinking more along the lines of family games night than hardcore gaming night with the mates as thats highly unlikely these days.
1) Rayman Origins – great fun and nice chilled way to settle into the night
2) Motorstorm Apocalypse – competitive splitscreen racing with no weapons as such but a destructive edge
3) Buzz! – to finish off I’m going with a Buzz title as this is where sobriety and general knowledge reign supreme (so my brother will probably beat me by knowing everything irrelevant to normal everyday life)

Game #1 – Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone (PSN game)
(because its alot of fun with 3 friends trying to survive)

Game #2 – WWE ’13
(because its awesome to make your friends tap out to the YES! lock)

Game #3 – LittleBig Plannet 2
(imagine creating levels when your 100% drunk!)

Fancy Dress – Battlefield 3 Soldiers
(Dressing up like BF3 marines while getting drunk)

Snacks – All We can eat CHOCOLATE and WHITE CHOCOLATE
(Because chocolate is the best in the world)

Drinks #1 – Coca Cola
(who dosn’t love coke!

Drink #2 – BEER
(just to get drunk!)

AoNekoAmaru 7 December, 2012 @ 4:42 pm   34

LittleBigPlanet 2 as party opener (while people still drop in and we finish preparing the main dishes), alternating wildly between various Dualshock/Move combos depending on what crazy new user generated games we find (the party level playlist is growing). =D Snacks: chips and soda.

Then some Singstar with a mix of singing on two mikes and duo dance off with two Move-controllers. Snacks: the main dishes served once people sit down from the dancing and we move back the seats and tables.

Finally, some PlayStation Allstars Battle Royale since there’s always some fighting going on. =D Snacks: spicy chips, soda and energy drinks for those still going strong~ =D

Dress code: xmassy nerdy casual but with warm socks on because we’re freezing here in Sweden. D=

Stonesthrow 7 December, 2012 @ 4:42 pm   35

Well, I never do this because I’m a loner, but if I did, it would have to be Goldeneye, Mario Party and LBP, and maybe some LBP karting and Mariokart in between for racing or Smash Bros. and PSAllStars if they’re in a fighting mood :p
Snack choice would probably be candy during gameplay (nothing too dirty :p) and make them a pizza or go get a pack of fries during timeouts, depending on their choice ^^

GodOfWarGreece 7 December, 2012 @ 4:47 pm   36

Game 1:Little Big Planet Ps Vita Best Of The Little Big Planets Games
Game 2:Rayman Origins I Love This Game And I Love Small Rabbit
And Final Game Uncharted Golden Abyss I Love Story For This Game

Stonesthrow 7 December, 2012 @ 4:49 pm   37

(Oh, and because they’re great party games obviously.) This is a cool debate you picked out this time guys, it’s fun reading what others would do :d

S-o-h-a-i-l 7 December, 2012 @ 4:51 pm   38

PS All-Stars – An accessible yet complex brawler with Sony’s top gaming icons, what more do you need? Even my non-gamer friends can jump in.
LBP 2 – A game that appeals to all audiences. With an endless amount of levels available to play online, we could be playing all night, maybe even contribute ourselves (although doubt we’d make anything more than an obstacle course…or so we call it).
Uncharted 2 – This is a game I always take out whenever I have a non-gaming/non-PS3 owning friend. It has nothing to do with ‘pass and play’, it’s more like ‘I’m pretending this is the usual gaming experience on the PS3 when I know this is jawdropping’, and it always ends up the same way. Those sitting down watching me play in amazement, me getting a little too involved and denying them a chance to give it a try. I do however feel proud about the fact that my U2 gaming showcase helped convince 3 of my friends into buying a Playstation 3 (you’re welcome Sony!).
Snacks? A nice platter of sandwiches, crisp & drinks, with a little laxative mixed in for my own entertainment…ah what a feeling when I’m about to lose, and suddenly my friend drops the controller and runs screaming, probably should’ve stocked up on toilet paper…whoops.

declan__watson 7 December, 2012 @ 4:51 pm   39

Hello Fred
Great choice for weekend debate. πŸ™‚
1. Killzone One of the greatest first person shortens I have ever played and a fantastic contender for online gaming. Great lobby leader boards, combat online, and great weaponry.
2. Little big planet 2 An amazing game with some friendly features online. Taking pictures of you and your friends and making your own games, text chat and playing campaign games with your friends.
3. Gran Turismo A fantastic contender for racing games and for online racing with your friends. Customising your cars performance, making your car look the beast out on the road with great tattoos, paints, wheels, body kits etc. and also great track modding and making your own tracks. LongLivePlay Sony make.believe

toxic-inferno 7 December, 2012 @ 5:02 pm   40

Firstly, a game party shouldn’t involve any games that one person (usually the owner of the console) almost always wins (usually as a result of having the most practice). This automatically rules out most mainstream competitive multiplayer games, such as Call of Duty.

So, the three games I would choose are:

1) Rock Band 3 – With over 500 songs in my library, the game can entertain for hours. It also doesn’t require you to compete, so the chances of one friend getting fed up for always losing is slim. Also, it supports up to 7 players.

2) PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale – Hasn’t yet been out long enough for anybody to have realistically mastered all of the characters. Also, with a very quick game-time (roughly 3 minutes per round), there isn’t enough time for people to get bored from waiting.

3) Modnation Racers – There has to be a kart racing game in there somewhere, and seen as I haven’t yet got round to picking up LBP Karting, it would have to be Modnation Racers. A great, unpredictable, multiplayer game that would certainly keep us busy for hours!

doomsday619 7 December, 2012 @ 5:03 pm   41

Excellent Debate this week I have a lads night in once a month when i have mates around to watch the WWE PPV and relegate the wife to the bedroom but before it starts we normally play a few games our main games are:

Fifa 13- which we do all of us on same team and turn the difficulty right up.

WWE 13- Which we play elimination chamber, Hell in a Cell, 6 man Tag ect.

Sports Champions: which we play 4 player disk golf who ever is in last place passes the controller over.
Cant wait till xmas to get All-star Battle Royale and Sports Champions 2 im guessing these will be in the next gamin night debate πŸ™‚

Newest version of FIFA is a must for any of these nights. That’s really the only one that’s constant. Friendly competition, and it’s great fun all around. Most of my friends are footy fans, so it’s enjoyable even for the ones that aren’t playing.

Second game would be 007 goldeneye for the nostalgia. This game is just awesome…. So long as no one picks oddjob.

The third game would have to be Borderlands 2. The game is just insanely fun in coop.

These three games would ensure we had quite a bit of variety throughout the night. I bet with this playlist though, that we’d be stuck with goldeneye the whole night.

markl1972 7 December, 2012 @ 5:06 pm   43

Mixing up PS2 and PS3 I would go for:

Tekken 3 – still a brilliant beat ’em up. It’s absolutely infuriating that, no matter how much I practice, my wife (who has no interest whatsoever) can casually pick up a controller and beat me to a pulp with any combination of characters. I’ve never beaten her.

Burnout 3: Takedown – specifically the crash mode. Causing as much carnage as possible never gets old but the careful use of aftertouch can really rack up those multiplier scores. Gets very competitive.

Singstar: Others have mentioned this already but this is always great fun. My specific favourite is Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back, no-one can beat me on that! Altogether: I like big butts and I cannot lie, you other brothers can’t deny…

Usually accompanied with beer and red wine and fancy crisps – post takeaway curry of course. As for fancy dress…well, my six year old son does have a mario costume but he’s fast asleep by this point!

I love the chaos, the rivalry, and the smack talk of a gamenight. So games you can play with as much people as possible.

My favorite gaming night game has to be Buzz. You can talk big if you know the most answers, but if you brag a bit to much your friends pick categories you don’t know much about, work together to throw a pie first in my face. It can deliver chaos, rivalry, a lot of smack talk and epic escapes in the Final Countdown

The reason I still have my gamecube is because of the great Mario games. I just can’t say goodbye to Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Mario Smash Football (should be called soccer) If I have to pick one, it would be Mario Party. All rivals, but sometimes working together, a little luck and a lot of fun minigames

Last but certainly not least is a team building game. The rivalry is fun, but it’s also nice to play together. When I’m at a friend, we play Rock Band almost all of the evening. With epic guitar/drum solo’s, romantic duets it’s great fun. But since I throw this party and I don’t own Rock Band, I’m choosing Castle Crashers. Great visual style, great fun, working co-operatively can be great fun

1. PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal just to get the Party starting (when every one is still sober that way no one will have the excuse “You beat me because I was drunk” or “It doesn’t count, I wasn’t myself last night”)
2 Motorstorm Apocalypse or Pacific Rift(depending on the people’s choice) for variety
3. SingStar when every one is in the “I really don’t care how sound,I’m a star!! ” mode. Of course PS Eye is a must so we could relive the “awesome” moments in the morning.

doomsday619 7 December, 2012 @ 5:10 pm   46

continued from comment #41
Oh yes and
Snacks: Domino’s Pizza and sausage rolls can never cook up enough sausage rolls mmmmm lol.
Fancy Dress- will be what WWE T-shirt you want and hope noone wears same one as you as you get ridiculed by your other peers.

extermin8or_ 7 December, 2012 @ 5:10 pm   47

Well Grant Turismo 5 is a must, splitscreen, car racing, loads of cars and maps to race on and using the custom soundtrack function ofc πŸ™‚
Next game would probably have to require me getting ou tthe old ps2; but nothing has splitscreen competative madness in the last decade or so like 007:Nightfire. The splitscreen on that game was phenomenal. So much fun, so many characters and game modes and weapoons etc, this would have to be followed by timesplitters future perfect for both some splitscreen coop and some splitscreen competative gaming :P. Then from ps2 as we are going old school might aswell chuck in some Crash Bash for ps1. then back to next gen for a combination of resistance 1-3 and mortorstorm pacific rift and apocolypse :p

Firstly, i love a bit of Gran Turismo 5, so that will go at number one. Great game to play with others. Secondly, I’d have to pull out the plastic instruments for Guitar Hero/Rock Band. One rule though, the vocalist always picks the track. It’s not really fair to put some screamo on and expect someone to shout along. Thirdly, I’d dig out my gamecube and play some Super Smash Bros Melee. I know this is a sony blog, but for sheer fun and simplicity Melee can’t be beaten. PSASBR came close, but SSBM still holds the crown in my opinion.

dark_angel69 7 December, 2012 @ 5:30 pm   49

Game 1 – CoD WAW/MW3/Black ops 2
Reason – We all play this especially when meeting up as most don’t have money for new games and there isn’t anything else we have that’s a good competitive. We play this while we have a couple boxes of beers for starters

Game 2 – Rugby World Cup 2011
Reason – This is the next game we play and it was such a laugh when drunk. Before getting drunk it’s an ok game but when drunk the laughs really come in

Game 3 – CoD again
Reason – got 2 drunk to even remember anything about this the next day. It’s such a mystery how the disc appears to be inside the PS3 when we can remember playing Rugby World Cup 2011

– Borderlands

– a fighting game like dragon ball z raging blast 2

– Burnout paradise for a racing quality

– and a game with a challenging story in which we would all take turns to advance through the story, handing it on upon death.

and if anyone were to suggest a first person shooter like call of duty or battlefield they would be escorted out.

As of right now my party would consist of:
– Mortal Kombat PS3, as some serious competition ravages my friends and I with this game.
– Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale PS3 and Vita which is quickly becoming one of my favourite games and very fun with friends.
– Black Ops 2 PS3 as there always has to be some FPS action goin’ on and right now Black Ops 2 is where it’s at.

sapateiras 7 December, 2012 @ 5:39 pm   52

Gotta love gaming nights !
Here it goes

My first game will be Uncharted 3, because of the multiplayer would be fun to play splitscreen with my friends and collecting the artifacts or give a try on singleplayer to see who can do a chapter the fastest πŸ˜›

Second game is Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, well didnt win it last week so i buyed it πŸ™‚ So far so fun, playing 2vs2 online or with more 3 friends having fun on endless battles, and be amused when Ray appears on the LocoRoco stage, when i first saw it i was like, run for your lifes ! HAha

sapateiras 7 December, 2012 @ 5:39 pm   53

And the last game is Crash Bandicoot Team Racing for PSOne. I chosse this game because it revives my childwood, me and my dad playing it and trying to collect everything, but now iam older and so is he and he doenst play videogames anymore. So i think a gaming night playing this should be wonderful. Its good to see that they still make games like it such as Modnation Lbp Karting and this Sonic & All-Stars it also makes me think of another game of my childwood RcRevenge, it makes me remember it because of the transformations to boat plane etc. RcRevenge its another game i used to play with my dad, good old times.

Thats all, hope everyone has a good gaming night, and Fred tell us what games would you bring to a gaming night ?

Mikal_Drey 7 December, 2012 @ 5:44 pm   54

hey hey

NFS:Hot Pursuit, Tekken, Singstar

Start the evening off with NFS where we can either show off our skillZ and also have some cops Vs tuners pvp and as its more about fun rather than competitiveness its a god way to kick of an evening of gaming.

Revenge and rivalry kicks in (literally) and we can get the mid evening arguments and banter out in the open and release any tension with some Tekken. (Jack5 ftw)

after the beer and wine has been flowing its good to finish on some light humor and terrible singing with singstar. Girls Vs boys ofc πŸ™‚

– Super Street Fighter IV, winner stays on. Great competitive game and lots of close matches having victory won or snatched by millimeters remaining on health bars.

– Fifa 09, cannot afford to to be buying Fifa each year so stuck playing 09 still. 2v2 is the way we play and swap partners all the time to keep it even. We may dance when we score.

– Mario Kart Wii (you didn’t specify PS3! :p ), we love Kart racers and this games multiplayer is great, we either 4 player splitscreen it of play online 2 player and whoever places lowest of the two passes controller on.

Snacks include pizza, kebabs, chinese food and other things we all regret stuffing ourselves on in the morning.

I would have to take out the old PS1 classics with that said these would be the games that I would choose:

Game #1 – Crash Team Racing (pretty much the best racing game ever made can’t remember playing any other more than CTR! and it also had a great multi player modes racing and battling can be played for hours just goes to show you how great Naughty Dog are as a developer)

Game #2 – Team Buddies (What can I say about this game it was rude, violent and had silly cartoony characters but it was so much fun collecting your blocks to build your troops/vehicles/tanks for total destruction, last team reminding was the winner!)

Game #3 – Poy Poy! (Probably a game that alot of gamers haven’t played or even heard of, it was a tournment fighting game that involved alot of throwing objects at each other it definitely is a party game for total fun!)

Snacks – would be pepperoni pizza with extra cheese can’t beat it πŸ˜€

Fancy Dress Theme – has to be Mutant Ninja Turtles (you see what I did there?) πŸ˜›

Love a good gaming night with friends.

Usually set off with an hour or so on a 1 on 1 fighter,mvc3,super streetfighter
Then some WWE action as you can’t beat some 4player action, but it usually ends up with people trying to recreate the action lol
Then we usually end up digging out the n64 for Goldeneye, pure classic.
Then when everyone’s had plenty to drink we go for guitar hero battles which is hilarious

The first one has to be FIFA 13, because it’s not a gaming night if there’s no football.
Second has to be Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. Awesome game, and I’m currently the best in the group as I’ve played the game the most, so I really enjoy destroying my friends.
Third, Modnation Racers. Hands down the best Kart Racing game on any platform.

As far as snacks go, our only “snack” is beer. A lot of beer πŸ˜€ .

We often do gameparties with friends and they all take their PS3’s with them to my house, we have a couple of beamers too. The 3 games that are the best are:

1. Rockband, playing guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and on the beamer it has four people that can play plus a whole audience for whom it is fun to watch!

2. Fifa 13 on a beamer too, it keeps 4 people on the edge of their seats, one plays with a normal DS3, the other with Move and again, an audience that likes to watch and cheers as loud as the crowd in the game!

3. Motorstorm 3 (got it free in the instant game collection on my PS+ account) on the 24 inch 3D Sony game monitor in simul view, both see full screen in massive dept!

Snacks: a wide variation of chips, but also the Dutch snack that every foreigner loves…

If you’d ever visit The Netherlands, get bitterballs, everyone loves ’em. This is the ultimate gamenight!

    Fred Dutton 11 December, 2012 @ 9:14 am

I have never heard of these Bitterballs of which you speak. Researching now…

    Sonic winner here!

Mattiebo123 7 December, 2012 @ 6:32 pm   60

The first game is easy; TimeSplitters 2 or Future Perfect. That game can keep me and others playing for hours without ever getting tired of it. Custom game modes just make it hilarious an really fun, something that is unfortunately lacking in modern FPSs.

Secondly, LittleBigPlanet 2 features a lot of great multiplayer games and levels. I particularly enjoy the Street Fighter level that someone made which is particularly hilarious. I’ve spent literally hours playing that one level alone.

Lastly, we need a fighting game, and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 seems like a good bet. It’s quite easy to pick up and play while still giving hardcore players the ability to get better with challenging combos. The person with the most experience may not necesarrily win.

+ pizza

1) Buzz!

2) PS All Stars

3) Sports Champions 2

I dont need to explain, this is the best line up for any gathering or party especially for Buzz!.

XnoobsquadX 7 December, 2012 @ 6:42 pm   62

Borderlands 2 for some Epic looting

Mortal Kombat vs DC universe for some geek on cult action 2 seperate camps!

and last but not least littlebig planet 2 for some platforming funs n giggles.
as for snacks obviously a Party needs M&M’s share the fun!

zxRATTLExz 7 December, 2012 @ 6:46 pm   63

Considering most of my friends are a little long in the tooth and most bar a couple have not touched a game in a few years i would have to bring out the classics we were all playing in our teens and twenties.
Mario Kart on the Snes was a firm favourite back in the day so i would have to make that the starter.

Then we would move onto some classic 4 player splitscreen deathmatch in the shape of Perfect Dark on N64.

To round the evening off i would plug the PS3 back in and load up Fifa 13, winner stays on rules apply.

Andrefpvs 7 December, 2012 @ 6:46 pm   64

I see most people are going for the usual party and multiplayer games, and I very much agree with them. There’s two games that are ALWAYS played whenever my family throws a party, and that’s SingStar and LittleBigPlanet2 (with the occasional round of Sports Champions for those feeling especially active). It’s always great fun. Snacks always involve Japanese food — especially sushi, which me and my friends are addicted to.

However, when I was younger and I was at home — thank you college :'( — I used to get my cousins and my best friend together, and we’d arrange for our usual sleepovers at each others’ homes. These were my favourite kinds of parties, and at the time we had to make do with the games we had. We all had a PlayStation and, eventually, PlayStation 2.

Andrefpvs 7 December, 2012 @ 6:46 pm   65

—-continued from above—-

For some reason, most of our games were RPGs, Action-adventure games, or Platformers, and we enjoyed watching each other playing the games as much or more as if we were playing them ourselves. I’ll never forget the joy we felt of beating Sin (the words “use Curaga! Use Curaga!” will forever be engraved in my mind) or the collective jump we all had when a Licker jumped through the window in Resident Evil 2. Finding Meryl’s codec number was our first contact ever with 4th-wall-breaking, and we were stunned when we realised where it was hidden.

Oh, we had snacks too! We absolutely destroyed countless packages of gummy bears!

Throughout the years, this eventually stopped and we all went our separate ways, although thankfully we are still in contact. These fond memories will forever be with me and, I hope, with them as well.

And I know one day we’ll call each others for one more “PlayStation night”, for old times’ sake. πŸ™‚

    Fred Dutton 11 December, 2012 @ 9:16 am

I used to drive my housemates mad when I was at college, hogging the TV to play RPGs! I think they’d argue they’re the very opposite of a party game! Still, good suggestions. Sonic code here.

Buzz… Because ninjas came and stole my entire game collection and gave back Buzz from last months raid…

Seriously though, Borderlands, fifa 13 and Buzz would make a killer “friends gaming night” as it blends a few gaming categories (casual, party, hardcore gaming)

Borderlands because of the sheer size of the game and the fact that it has four player split screen, plus its a humourous game (claptrap and the character comments).

Fifa 13 because you just have to love your mates when they almost tear their hair off because of offside traps or late minute goals (seriously, its hillarious!). However if you value your controllers, you’ll let your mates win a little, or else you’ll be picking up controller pieces around your livingroom floor (speaking from experience…)

And finally Buzz, because everytime a controller fails because of low battery, it somehow happens to be the controller Im using, and the evil smiles on my mates faces are priceless…

By the way, Doritos and cheeze doodles are classics when it comes to snacks, however my friends and I are rather boring when it comes to dressing up for gaming sessions, casual it is!

silmorat1 7 December, 2012 @ 6:56 pm   68

I’d start the party with some ‘dancestar’ using the move controller to get the party up and running – its got 40 tracks on the disk, most of them pretty good too! Yes you can’t beat a bit of the macerina – an essential party song for me!
After that some ‘when Vikings attack’ awesome fun especially with some Sherberts had, great fun for all and with laughs a plenty. An easy game to simply pick up and play that even non-gaming folk can play without spending all night explaining how to play.
After that I’d have to bring out the classic game known as ‘pixeljunk racer 2nd lap’ its a game I stumbled across not expecting much but it turned into the best party game ever – its one of those games that would drive your brain to insanity and back again, its just crazy but is soo much fun, my eyes don’t seem to be the same after a few rounds – I can’t believe I only paid 79p for it – amazing!
Hope you enjoy my party selection.

Buzz : forgotten quiz game, great party games with buzzers

Lego rock band: fun version of the rock band game suitable for everyone,

super street fighter 4: a great fighting game.

Alex-1124 7 December, 2012 @ 7:10 pm   70

To build up my theme, I’m going to be telling you the dress code and drinks first.

Males shall dress in a Fat Princess dress, pink or blue? Up to you.
We shall drink *read in Kratos’ voice* BLOOD!!

We shall play God of War III, Batman Arkham City and Mortal Kombat! We will be the ultimate Gods.. and then remember we’re all wearing dresses and actually drinking cherryade thinking it’s blood.

After crashing back in to reality we all compiment each other saying how good we look in dresses to try and get the morale back up amongst us, but we’ll all cry ourselves to sleep that night.

Avengerrr 7 December, 2012 @ 7:13 pm   71

1. LittleBigPlanet 2. Why? Because it is a game full of fun and mayhem where me and my friends can churn through levels oozing of colour and style. Also there are are lot different game types and also stickers and textures to mess about with. oh and costumes. its just a great party game.

2. I would say GT5 for a nice racer, in fact it is only one a scarce few excluding karting games that support split screen multiplayer. There is also some nice challenges/trophies in GT5 such as duels between Subaru’s and Mitsubishi’s. And we can mess about with drifting and the car showrooms.

3. I would say left 4 dead 2 lastly because it can support 4 players and its great fun playing in survival mode helping each other out and bumper buttons firing like mad when a tank charges our way.

Well that’s my three, a nice balanced selection, although when we have had gaming parties in the past, we have always had more than three, and games such battle royale, sacred and time splitters, and phantasy star too.

Singstar, like all the gay people above this comment.

But I only play it because it’s the first game on my XMB.

Agamer2006 7 December, 2012 @ 7:29 pm   73

My gaming night usual takes place on boxing day and its sort of tradition now that we always go back and play the same games and even try a few new released that we would have got the day before.

First we start of with a full round of Buzz, all quizes activated (The amount of times we’ve played it you would think we have seen every question by new. Usually ends with the winner gloating.

Next is singstar, which usually last longer than it should and most of the time there is someone always thinks there the superstar and wont let anyone use the mic.

And when it dies down we usually end it the old fashioned and still one of the best multiplayer games I have ever played, Worms. Its always been the ultimate challenge in my household to see who would be the worms champion.

And that is my yearly gaming night, with the odd few extra games thrown in. Bought Dancestar this year too πŸ˜€

My perfect lineup for a game night must be these games:

Serious Sam (any of the three):
Simply because it is awesome with friends in the same room! Easy and fun coop with insanely large bossfights! It’s like God of War met Quake and they wanted the best from both!

Wipeout HD:
Every party needs a racer. And it needs to be fast and competative! Wipeout HD… Enough said!

LittleBigPlanet 2:
This is a definitive winner at a party! 4 players, 4 sackboys, tons of stuff to explore and discover! Or just kick eachothers ass and monkey around!

This would be my games of choice! What are your choices Fred Dutton?

PIREDERAS 7 December, 2012 @ 7:50 pm   75

I’d say a great videogame party night could be attended by 2 couples, having their fun and playing the following:

– Rayman Origins, playing a comedic, easy to pick up, funny 4-player co-op platformer, giving slaps to enemies and friends alike (and laughing at the funny sound effects, too)!!!

– Yoostar 2, performing various 2-player improvisational scenes with free-minded, humorous or “dirty” dialogue (not pre-written film scenes), dressing up a bit differently (even a fancy hat could help), in a “I can do better!” mood, and maybe upload the videos to Facebook!

– Finally, as the end of the party night approaches, Buzz! Quiz World! Exhausted by the Yoostar 2 performances, a cool quiz game to round up the night from the comfort of the couch using just the Buzz! buttons. The 2 couples arrange to play as 2-player teams, because late at night (and after a beer or two), maybe 2 minds could think better than one!

1) Since my “gaming pijama party” obviously won’t include more than 4 people, I’ll ask them to bring their notebooks and start with Left 4 Dead 2. Yes, it’s a bit geeky but we are doing a gaming party, so geeky it is! This game is great to shake things up in the beginning. We simply love both L4D, so what is a better way to renew splendid memories than shooting a couple of zombies like in good old times? When all we had was some average PC and our young passion for gaming.
2) After that geeky exercise it’s time to play a more “mainstream” party game. Like Rock Band. When party is in full swing and you’re quite ready to jump out of your pants playing challenging guitar solo or laughing at your friend’s singing.
3) And since our party is a true mix of different times and genres last game is a fighting. And best “party-fighting” is a so-called “salad”. So we’d take the newest sweep – PS All-Stars! Dawn is near, everyone is obviously a bit tired, so why not pull-out a true no-brainer at the end? Since we do have two Vita in adition to PS3, it will double the fun we are having. Tournaments, witty duels and true endurance test. Great closure to a great party.

ducky1549 7 December, 2012 @ 8:02 pm   77

Game 1: Guitar hero/rockband everyone loves the guitar games and a full band play off would just rock the night away.

Game 2: Monopoly everyone’s favorite oldie game of all time.

Game 3: Playstation Allstars Battle Royal cause any fan of the smash bros from nintendo would be a fan of this too and it’s perfect party material for all ages and genders.

Snacks: molteser’s and M&M’s and probably party sized sausages and sandwiches.

Drinks: Cider,Beer,Whiskey,Lager for the adults
Coca Cola,Orange juice,Apple juice,Shandy for the kids

Dress code: Any playstation character the guest’s like (has to be a must, they don’t get through the door otherwise) :P.

I’d start out with play station all stars because of fun craziness and even the girls enjoy a bit mindless violence if they can play as a loved icon or a cute toro, it would become more fun as drinks go on.
Once everyone’s lost their inhibitions a bit, it’s on to 7 player rock band 3 with 3 people singing at a time ( nothing says party like 3 people singing more than a feeling out of tune with each other)
Finally for the late session when some people can’t be bothered anymore it’s on to crash bash the ultimate party game, the mini games have the perfect amount of crazy like shooting gems at bullseyes while riding a tiny dragon.

A_Nonny_Moose 7 December, 2012 @ 8:06 pm   79

First choice definitely has to be Rock Band 3. Everyone can play and everyone can feel comfortable playing too. Even after a few drinks some people still won’t want to sing, but everyone is happy to go nuts on the drums.

Second would Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing Transformed, for 2 reasons. 2) I played it in a shop a couple days ago and it’s even better than the first one. 3) Nearly all of my friends were huge Sega fanboys back in the early days of console wars so Mario Kart is a no-no. The Nintendo crew got slaughtered the year Mario & Sonic At The Olympics came out.

Third would be Sports Champions, mainly for the Table Tennis and Gladiator Duels. Hitting a friend a with a big wooden club is so satisfying.

For snacks, it has to be Thai. Not very Christmassy but Thai food is just so damn nice. Prawn toast, spring rolls, prawn rolls Thai fishcake, satay chicken, Thai golden bags, sweet sticky rice. It’s lovely. And Pringles of course.

I think if I invited my friends to a fancy dress gaming party I’d get some funny looks. πŸ˜› But it is a Christmas gaming party, so at the very least everyone would be wearing a paper crown and be covered in those strings of coloured paper that come out of party poppers.

Wiiman1225 7 December, 2012 @ 8:12 pm   80

Well, I do this quite a lot!
First, it a couple of rounds of Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. Why? The Assault Arcade mode is great fun to play with friends (and great to steal their studs as well) but it takes a while to get going which gets the chatting going.

Then, I would go on Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One as we would try to finish the levels (as well as each other) and the story (which is spot on). The comedy will start up during the cut-scenes though.

Finally, I would play some SoulCalibur IV because it hilarious to see the epic fails we have on there like one time, A friend and I was playing it as it was a event we usually do then we were about the same health as each other which made us fight with our custom characters (which was fun) even harder then I fell out of the ring and into water by rolling out of the arena. I consider this one to be the best one out of three to play as the ultimate gaming night! πŸ˜€

twoofclubs 7 December, 2012 @ 8:17 pm   81

If there’s no limit on whether it’s current gen or not then it would have to be:

Rollcage Stage 2 – An insanely fast and furious racer from the days of yore that bends gravity and provided some of the best multiplayer action of my early gaming life.

LittleBigPlanet 2 – Easy to pick up and play for literally anyone and who doesn’t enjoy covering an compatriot with stickers, slapping them upside the head or firing cakes at them?

Guitar Hero : Warriors of Rock – A return to form for the series that has some of the best tracks in their history and the insane characters with some serious points scoring methods.

Food would be mini sausage rolls, pizza and a decadent cheese board to offset the ridiculous action going on. Dress code would be just comfy stuff, as boring as that it it best to be comfy when you’ll mainly be just sitting down.

TheMighty_MuMbY 7 December, 2012 @ 8:23 pm   82

First choice has to be Just dance 3, me and my friends cannot dance to save our lives. But it always ends up in hesterics as long as nothing gets smashed.

Then after all that dancing, WWE 13 to regain man points by smashing heads through tables and being DQed for using the title belt to draw first blood.

Then finaly (this might sounds an odd one) we would get the popcorn out, id play uncharted 3 single player and for everybody else it’s like watching a movie. (slightly selfish but it’s my PS3 *evil laugh*)

Perfect night in.

THE_FORCE 7 December, 2012 @ 8:27 pm   83

I’d only have the one game lined up…..SINGSTAR!

Any other game in a party situation just wouldn’t be as fun.

NunoACMendes 7 December, 2012 @ 8:29 pm   84

First off and to get a good start to the night I’d choose Speed Freaks cuz it’s just pure fun, then and to keep the night
going i’d choose either Eternal Champions and to close the night with a bang i’d choose Quake 3 Arena.

supersmith2500 7 December, 2012 @ 8:30 pm   85

Let me join in the Debate:

1. Call of Duty
From slaying zombies in Black Ops to playing free for all in Multiplayer mode. It really never gets old and if you play with this with bunch of mates over around real time or online.

2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
What can you go wrong it’s a fighting game that is ideal for everything, you can brawl as your favourite Nintendo characters where you must get the most KO’s or trash your oppenments before they do. Fun game funtimes.

3. Gran Turismo 5
Sometimes racing games can be fun to play too, you can race against others and it’s really fun to play. =D

Tenchuwoh 7 December, 2012 @ 8:47 pm   86

I have “gaming Nights” with my friends and we named them “FFN”.

It stands out as “Fatal Frame Night” and obviously we are playing Fatal Frame/Project Zero.

I choose this game because it is like watching a movie, because it is funny watching girls playing and because it is scary πŸ˜‰

Guitar Hero III and Wii Sports, together with a bunch of beer.

And then an nostalgic Streets of Rage trip at the end.

Gaming nights are more of a rarity these days, with the advent of online gaming and all. I remember many a gaming night of my teenage years playing co-op Duke Nukem 64 , Alas I’m not sure even I would want to play Black Ops 2 with a room full of my mates instead of online (maybe…probably because I’m getting old?)

These days the only reason I’d have to say “Shake it Baby” on a gaming night is playing Sports Champions with my girlfriend, which would be my first pick.

Allowing my infant son to babble into a microphone would make Singstar would make that the second and proving I’m smarter than the brother in law would make Buzz the third choice. I guess accessibility is the theme there, gaming nights for me at least these days consist of a lot of people who aren’t “Gamers” but I think this is a good thing that there are titles out there to reach out to all audiences. its a good progression for games.

Just to Cheat and I don’t want to leave it out For the rare “Guys night” it’s got to be Mortal Kombat, Fifa and whichever the latest WWE game is, which has been a good combination for a decade or so, (I guess progression isn’t always needed) πŸ™‚

Jamesyp00 7 December, 2012 @ 9:00 pm   89

Just posting to say that sonic racing transformed is awful compared to the first one, no rush trying to win this crap!

Oh and for snacks…is Beer snack?

A few people mentioned Buzz on here (myself included) which makes me wonder, Why aren’t they releasing another one? now would be the perfect time and it’s been two years since the last one?

Just did a search online and saw that sony were being sued for it but won the case, maybe that’s slowed it down, but still, Come on Sony, I’d love a Buzz! movies ps3 game. The Scene it games are awful!

Moe_and_Sars 7 December, 2012 @ 9:20 pm   92

1st game: Uncharted 3…as Drake says:”nothing better then the smell of propane in the morning” πŸ˜‰
2nd game:Playstation all stars battle royale…who wouldn’t love it?
3rd game:Borderlands 2… I love killing some psychos

For snacks….popcorn and some chocolate bars πŸ˜€

homerthegreat 7 December, 2012 @ 9:26 pm   93

I do actually have a 3 game plan for my gaming nights. Though I very rarely play FPS or shooters just because it’s rare in my case that everyone can have a good time with them due to my friends having widely different skill levels. Thankfully they all drink alcohol πŸ˜€

Game 1 – I usually start with a good old Party game (Mario Party, Warioware and Buzz! have all served me well). Any guy or gal can play them and potential win so no one get’s excluded. And there is a also lot of potential people to get screwed over in these games as well, which always livens things up πŸ˜›

Game 2 – Rock Band 3 without fail. I have over 700 songs for the game so I force everybody to play the game to justify my investment :P. People are also getting pretty tipsy by this point too, making it easier to actually get people to sing. People also find it fun too I guess πŸ˜›

Game 3 – A button mashy fighting game (usually Tekken or Marvel VS Capcom). When everyone is too tired/drunk/lost too much of there voice to play Rock Band anymore I tend to suggest an easy to play fighting game. Because they don’t require too much effort to play and people are in such a state that anything flashy happening on screen looks amazing!

homerthegreat 7 December, 2012 @ 9:33 pm   94

Oh god and Crash Team Racing at the start too! We used to have an in house leaderboard when I was at uni for the N-Gin Labs track that people would try and beat there best times on (Spoiler: I won at the end of the year πŸ˜‰ ). That game was nearly my life at uni, can’t believe I forgot it!

i_am_locust 7 December, 2012 @ 9:38 pm   95

My all-time favourites are:

1) A game of “suspension” on PES4. Yellow card is 1pt, Red card is 3pt., Injuries are 5pt. and goals are also 5pt.. Getting suspended is an instant win. Flying players, retarded facial expressions and the option to watch a replay, what does a game night need more? Also, commentary like “They need some penetration, Trevor” cracks me up every time.

2) Timesplitters 2/FP: Best Multiplayer game ever. It really has everything. Spent many hours playing this with friends.

3) Tekken Tag Tournament (2): Always funny when your teammate pushes you off the couch because you died (again) while he was yelling “SWITCH SWITCH SWITCH SWITCH!!!!”

bLaiSe_HUN 7 December, 2012 @ 9:39 pm   96

Mine would be
1, Sports Champions
Appearently everyone loves this game. πŸ™‚ We mostly play table tennis, disc golfing and archery but when there are just tough man around we play some gladiator too. πŸ˜€ I’ll definately pick up Sports Champions 2 for Christmas and play it with the family.

2, Call of Duty Zombies mode
Because you know… hacking zombies is always fun. We like to mix it up playing either CoD5, BLOPS or BLOPS 2. I love those panicky moments when someone falls on the ground with a lot of zombies around and then the other player still manages to save him. Too bad they only support 2 players in split-screen though…

3, Singstar
I must say I’m not a huge fan of this game but when there are girls around it usually gets requested. We split into two groups, boys versus girls. Almost everyone sings terrible but we still have laugh and that’s what counts right?

As for snacks we usually get some beer and a few bag of crackers and chips.

mrblack343 7 December, 2012 @ 9:40 pm   97

At the moment I would choose FIFA 13, because everyone loves a good match of football. Second game is When Vikings Attack. It’s easy to learn for casual gamers and great fun. Reminds me of the tons of Bomberman-games I played with some friends. The last game depends on my friends. Call of Duty: Black Ops II for the guys who like shooters and played some games before, Buzz for the non-gamers and last but not least Singstar when we drunk some beer.

lefskisofiq 7 December, 2012 @ 9:48 pm   98

1 – Supersonic acrobatic rocket powered battle cars – i got that with ps+ and it’s one of the funniest party games ever! Screw FIFA and PES πŸ˜€
2 – Little big planet 2 – for obvious reasons
3 – Golden Axe – it’s short , fun and old

Nightmare966 7 December, 2012 @ 10:36 pm   99

We’re fighters here at home, so knowing all games…

Mortal Kombat – Being able to play 2vs2 Tag battles, 4 of us can have the time of their life reducing the opponent to dust… literally. Plus Test Your Luck, it’s fun when you’re a zombie without arms that is fighting on the top of the screen.

PlayStation All-Stars – Again, 4 players. Just that this time around it can be Kratos vs Ratchet vs Cole vs Dan. Fast action, easy to play, and lots of fun.

And last, just Soul Calibur V. We quite like the series and we quite like the changes done to the fightig system, so it is a serious competition with lots of “that’s unfair” and “why so much damage?” πŸ˜› Plus Voldo.

Seeing most answers though I feel we lack some racing. I should try to show them WipEout HD/Fury.

XzSlLENTSNIPERzX 7 December, 2012 @ 11:28 pm   100

#1 – MGS3:HD – A perfect, replay able game that can be made really long or can be done in a couple of hours; an absolute classic in all aspects, this one is a necessity.

#2 – Sports Champions: 2 – Now, this one would be downright hilarious! We could fight each other or go for GOLD trophies in all events, this game has a lot of replayability.

#3 – GRAND THEFT AUTO: Complete Edition – Another classic, this one lasts me for hours as I rampage through the city like a drunk hooligan – this one will be a laugh, a challenge and a huge amount of fun!

Snack: A huge pot of chocolate raisin, don’t ask why, I simply love them. Failing that, I will resort to Cornflakes. If my friends dislike them then they can share the dog’s food.

Dress code: Mankinis – a cool, airy and refreshing outfit that will guarantee we don’t get too it whilst playing the 3 games.

Games that nearly made it: GT5, The Saboteur and Just Cause: 2.

rabbitfrog 7 December, 2012 @ 11:29 pm   101

A ultimate video game party has to have 3 generations of consoles,

So firstly on the PSone we have Crash team racing, it is the greatest racing game on the playstation (though not as good as Rock ‘n’ Roll racers, love that game).

Next we move on to the PS2 and play a 500 kills game against the bots on killzone. That will cover a few hours and hopefully build up our teamwork…

Only for it to be destroyed when we move on the the PS3 and play a few rounds on Buzz, at this time people

rabbitfrog 7 December, 2012 @ 11:32 pm   102

Continuing on from that brief pause…

At this time people will hopefully be tired and drunk and it might be enough to push people over the edge.

And that’s how you throw a party. (when you also add drink and food).

Having just finished a gaming night we played Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, our new favourite game. My friends love beating up other players, nothing beats a purely competative game.

Secondly we play Super Sonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars, an old PSN game. Instant favourite of any who play it. Probably the oldest game we play.

Finally we play whatever we can gather, either All 4 One, Little Big Planet 2 or some other multiplayer Game I have. Thats if we get bored of the other two, but that seldom happens.

No dress theme, but I always have some Mountain Dew or Fanta in stock with some chips. Makes for a good night.

For me, definitely:
NHL 13 – We may not know or understand how ice hockey is played, but any sport this fast with as many opportunities to for violence is alright with me, the sheer confusion over how the game is meant to work just adds to the enjoyment.

Rock Band 3 – It was always meant to be a party game, so to not have it ready for the party would be a crime. Who doesn’t want to sing along to such classics like Carry on my Wayward Son and More Than a Feeling?

WarioWare Smooth Moves – It may not be a PS3 game, but I have never had so much fun watching somebody else play a game. Well worth it for the novelty of seeing your friends flail around, especially when the games are running on maximum speed.

For a party like this there is only one way to dress, as the Blue Man Group.

liamlangan 7 December, 2012 @ 11:59 pm   105

For the consideration of the neighbours I start off early with a noisy game, so Guitar Hero is the first bet, then I normally move onto a shooter, which ranges between call of duty, Resistance FOM or Goldeneye, and then to finish off when it gets dark and most people have left the remaining people at my parties normally turn out the lights and we’ll sit and take turns between deaths in a horror game, normally the game of choice is Resident Evil 4

Hemelskonijn 8 December, 2012 @ 12:50 am   106

I have no friends i have a playstation 3.

My line up !

Pain – because taking it in turns to inflict pain on a certain fat princess for points is hilariously similar to that time I threw a golf ball at a prostitute.

Rock Band 3 – because the only thing that’s better than karaoke, is spending Β£70 on a pretend guitar, so a friend can join in.

Buzz! Quiz World – because I need to know how smart my friends are, in case I get arrested for throwing golf balls suspiciously close to ‘street dwellers’ and I need a lawyer.

The dress code would be “Ninja turtle character of choice” and we’d eat pizza out of the microwave, to commemorate the old days, when food was improperly prepared.

Springey 8 December, 2012 @ 1:17 am   108

Gaming night? Don’t mind if I do.

First up, a racer. Nice, easy to get into opener. Coincidentally, usually this is the first Sonic & SEGA Racing as it has four-player split-screen and it’s easy to control with the left hand steering and the accelerator jammed against my right thigh on account of the pizza slice wot is in my right hand.

After the bitter hobo fight over the last pepperoni slice, some warm, camaraderie-building co-op is called for. Borderlands 2: nothing helps warm feelings toward one’s fellow man like taking on Handsome Jack with a mate. Don’t be a Gunzerker. I’m a Gunzerker. No, didn’t you hear, I’M the Gunzerker!

Last, tempers are strained and a gentlemanly throwdown – or, more likely, a button-mashing disaster area – is decided upon. Someone wants Street Fighter IV AE, I want Virtua Fighter 5 (I’m the only one who knows any combos). We compromise with Dead or Alive 5: hah, fooled you! Sarah, I choose you!

That’s my three. Shake hands, break bag of Skittles together. Same time next month?

This is without a doubt 3 of my favourites (in no particular order):

1. Timesplitters 2 custom matches. The MOST fun you can have in this game is 4 player deathmatch where everyone chooses the monkey and with NO weapons! Just think about it, 4 monkeys running around trying to bash eachother to death, it’s hilarious to play AND watch! Sometimes we’ll have one human character vs 3 monkeys armed with bricks! 3 monkeys chasing and tossing bricks at the lone human is hilariously good fun! It’s even MORE chaotic when you add in another 10-20 bots as monkeys! Just watching 20 monkeys running around tossing bricks at eachother is incredibly entertaining LOL! It sounds simple but it’s the MOST fun I’ve ever had gaming with friends.

2. Eyetoy Play 3. This game has simultaneous 4-player games so watching my friends running, jumping and accidentally slapping eachother (trying to hit enemies on screen) can bring many fits of laughter! seriously, there are tears at times it’s so funny! this game never fails to entertain both the people player and those who watch, great fun and good times for all!

continued below..

3. Tie between MicroMachines and Mashed. Both these games are INTENSE and hilariously entertaining at the same time, the racing alone is unbelievably good fun, don’t compare it to Mario, Crash team or any other karting game because this is MUCH better! When a player dies in Mashed they can still shoot the remaining players until the next round begins, so it’s always fun no matter what happens. Add in all the unique weapons and there’s NEVER a dull moment in these games.

As for food/drink, EyeToy Play HUGELY benefits from a few shots of hard liquor.. hilarity ensues! good, good times πŸ™‚

Black Ops 2 – now has four player split screen in zombie mode, this is probably the only game we would need but….

Burnout Paradise – party mode in that is quite good and you can have up to 8 players.

Tokyo Jungle – one of the most unique local multiplayer games I’ve played. Only two player but a pair can play while the others keep drinking

Best snack food? Coffee is always good cause I’m an old man and can’t stay awake – lollies also as most foods are too messy to eat while you are playing

First you need is beer for this, ok? =) Now, all set? well lets have a beer game competition! Here is my top 3 on how to have an awesome video game night!

1: Nhl 13. Mostly say fifa 13, but I would rather go with NHL. Mostly because of the easier learning curve and more fast paced. Well, everybody team up and kick the outer team out, simple as that. The team that scores, sips 1, the one that scores sips 3, and the losing team sips 5!

2: Random fighting game, like sreet fighter or soul calibur. Write down everyone names on a piece of paper. everybody needs to fight each other 2-3 times (depending on how many you are etc). Fight for best of 3. Winning gets you 2 points, winning flawless gives you 3 points. The losing guy sips 5. The players that dont play can bet sips and points while watching! When the qualifiers are over, make a semi final and at last a grand final with double the odds when betting! πŸ™‚

3: worms armaggedon. Let everybody make a team and start the massacre! You kill a worm? Sip 3, you are the one that lost one? Sip 5! Take turns to make up certain conditions for each turn, like grenades only. Only hurt player 3, you must sing during your gameturn etc etc. If the player somehow fails with this, sip 5 of em!

First of all, get in the right frame of mind by excercising, by having a good walk spoilt in Everybody’s Golf: World Tour. Next, strap in to Gran Turismo 5. Using the same cars on the same circuits; best time wins. Then everyone together in a big rock finale with a full* band Rock Band rock out.

My favourite thing to do when im having a game party is to go full out with decorations, ratchet and clank, jak and daxter, drake posters up in the gaming lounge. While we have races to see who can beat uncharted the fastest or who can collect all the orbs in jak and daxter, or we face off in ratchet and clanks multiplayer battles. I of course am always victorious as i am the best at gaming :P.

jehuty_2174 8 December, 2012 @ 7:06 am   115

I wouldn’t call it a party but a good Get-together.
Playstation Battle Royale:
– Cause at the beginning people are still focused, but we still dont want it to technical.

Singstar & Sports Champions 2
– will rotate for the rest of the evening so the girls will stop complaining cause they got whipped on Battle Royale. Plus the drinks would be kicking in for some very funny moments. And with Singstar loads of people can get in on the action just by sharing a mircophone^^

Snacks: Chip, Chocolate, Brownies maybe oder a pizza later to go along with a great evening/night.

theKING162 8 December, 2012 @ 8:20 am   116

1- Playstation all stars Battle royale ,who doesnt want to kick some friends butts
2- mortal kombat , same reason
3- Borderlands 2 , for good old school coop spllit screen
4- any game with local coop

and driking beers and making pop corn and watching some blu ray movies on ps3

ChazzH69 8 December, 2012 @ 8:34 am   117

1. Uncharted 3 – Is always fun and addictive. Kicking an enemy off a ledge, A well placed grenade into a group of enemies.. I want to play it now..

2. PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale – Flawless Cross Play on PS3 & Vita combined with a simple control scheme makes this a family favourite.

3. Start the Party (& it’s sequel) – Everyone can play it, looks great, plays better. Massively underrated party games which are always fun.

RoboAddy 8 December, 2012 @ 8:58 am   118

1. A PS3 and TV and copy of Black ops 2 for every 2 people to jump online in the party games lobby.

2. A PS3, 4 fight sticks and Tekken Tag Tournament 2 to duel it out in a round robin style tournament.

3. Mod Nation Racers is great for any number of people 4 and under.

Osahi_be 8 December, 2012 @ 9:32 am   119

For apetizer offcourse the wonderfull Rayman Origins, by far the best 4 player multiplayer of this generation and a truly wonderfull game that get’s everyones spirits high.

But as Rayamn Origins allows for some serious bullying too (kicking each other in the greavy lava, refusing to pop ones bubble, or just stomping on someones head) I can imagina that after a while the party will become more and more tense. So then it’s time to take it out on each other in TimeSplitters 2, arguably the best multiplayer game in like ever, because… monkeys.

So that gets the spirits up again thanks to the hilarious humor and game modes. I can imagine the party goes on with that game till dawn, so maybe it’s time to kick those friends out of the house, which offcourse, they’ll don’t want to.

So I fire up Singstar and start singing a totally destruction of the favourite songs of my friends. Not that hard as I really, really, really can’t sing. That must wrap up the party for good, and if it doesnt, well, there is always room for one more ‘Monkey Assist’ or ‘Capture the Bag’ match

anunnakid 8 December, 2012 @ 9:47 am   120

I just like it when people beg! I bought the game and its funtastick!

DoYouLikeMyID 8 December, 2012 @ 10:10 am   121

– LittleBigPlanet 2
It will really lift the mood among us, as we watch our Sackthings jump over obstacles while sticking their tongues out and swinging their arms everywhere. And then when one person wins, we give him a real smack (or should I say “sack”) in the face. So satisfying.

– Burnout Paradise
Now that we’ve set the mood, we need to build on it. We need teamwork for this. And what better way to do that, than to beat some of the online challenges in Burnout Paradise? And then sometimes, to break the pace, maybe just cruise around the city. (and by “cruise” I mean really fast!)

– Uncharted 3
Now that we’ve built a good solid foundation for teamwork, it’s time to tear it all down again! While I prefer the maps of Uncharted 2’s multiplayer, we would have to play Uncharted 3, because nothing brings up the competitive spirit quite like a free-for-all deathmatch to finish the night off. πŸ˜‰

This really would depend on which friends were popping round for the evening. A few beers, snacks and the following mix of games to try and allow for all tastes:

PSAS: so many different characters that are amazingly designed that no matter who you choose, you feel you’re playing their individual series of games

Modnation Racers (I don’t own LBP Karting – yet): Great fun racer with the ability to personalise kart and driver. The intense action keeping everyone fighting for the win

Dyad: for it’s time trial race style. Nothing better for a group of rowdy lads than trying to beat each others times using a ‘take it in turns’ style. The trippy art style should keep us entertained towards the end of the evening too

chrisboers 8 December, 2012 @ 10:33 am   123

On a totally different note.. @Fred, did you see that announcement of Dark Souls 2? πŸ™‚ Happy times!

Splutterbug 8 December, 2012 @ 10:54 am   124

Singstar – Even if you don’t sing it’s still fun to watch people make a fool of themselves with dodgy renditions of 80’s classics

Pacman Champion Edition – Just so damn addictive

Super Monkey Ball 2 on Gamecube, just the one mini game Monkey Target, I have no idea how many hours have been lost in that one

Snack choices generally involve pizza and beer.

cavalcade 8 December, 2012 @ 11:01 am   125

If you’re a gentlemen of a certain age your peer group will have long since lost the sort of motor control needed to play modern videogames.

Forget Borderlands 2. Every true multiplayer evening needs to start with Hired Guns on an Amiga with four people trying to play on the same keyboard. Inevitably a series of “friendly fire incidents” mean that the game will be turned off within 30 minutes and everyone will sit in sullen silence, their brains still turning corners in 90 degree steps.

After that we settle down with the spiritual forefather to Motorstorm RC, and play Micro Machines 2 Turbo Tournament. With the cables from 8 pads tangling and one person being miles better than everyone else it’ll be switched off in disgust.

And to finish? Well, time to get down the 486s from the loft and network up some PCs to play Doom. The only Killzone here is the pain in the lower back as we try to fit 8 family-car sized monitors onto a single kitchen table. After the table leg collapses for the 5th time we give up.

Overall feeling? A blend of nostalgia and creeping realisation that gaming has moved on, and perhaps it’s time to grab a copy of LBP2 and start co-operatively making a level that looks like a giant willy.

First game: Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed
Why?: Kart racing games are always a fun way to start the night, and this one has the added benefit of being a massive nostalgia fest for us all, too. Plus who hasn’t wanted an excuse to clobber Amy with a snowball?

Second game: Blazblue
Why?: Because a vibrant, colourful and fun fighter is the perfect way to get revenge on whoever pipped you at the post in the races.

Third game: Resident Evil: Chronicles HD
Why?: Feelings might be running high at this point, but nothing bands people together like a zombie apocalypse. Until someone forgets to heal someone that is… Also a great game for backseat players to yell ‘advice’ for at the end of the night.

For snacks we’d have to have something equally as colourful as the first two games, so bowls of Smarties are a must. Something with ketchup might be a suitable pair for Resident Evil…

As for outfits, it would probably be too hard to see themed t-shirts under the amount of warm clothes that we’d need to pile on top of them at this time of year, so whatever’s cosiest, really!

Game #1 – Street Fighter x Tekken. Me and my friends had lots of fun playing this together in teams, and I would more than love to do this again. Multiplayer madness surely is fun!

Game #2 – Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. We have plenty of fun playing this, no matter how good or bad we are. Making tournaments with this game has always been an idea of mine I’ve wanted to execute.

Game #3 – PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. I don’t actually own this game (yet), but me and 2 friends of mine went to this gaming expo, where we got to play it together. We had A LOT of fun with the game, and it suddenly became a must-buy for us. Playing this with a bunch of friends will be amazing.

As for snack and dressing, there’s not much to say about that. We just go for whatever we find.

Singstar everyone can play it and there is nothing like making fools of yourselves and pretending to sing.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for a long time is was the original but now that 2 is out there is no need to go back to the first one, other than to play bowling. I love the great feeling of being so low on health in a fighting game than making a come back.

Finally Sports Champions is a great go to game that again everyone can play regardless of gaming ablitity so that is why I keep going back to it.

BobfocRJG 8 December, 2012 @ 12:58 pm   129

In this day and age of popular electronic jiggery-pokery, the allure of a gaming-themed party seems impossible to resist for my four closest friends. They’re ex-rockers from the 80’s bordering on geriatric, you see, so they’re no strangers to casting off their inhibitions with reckless abandon. That’s partly why they’ll turn up in full glam rock attire, complete with liberally applied hairspray, leather jackets and lip gloss. Oh, and let’s not forget the Hooch now that it’s making a comeback. We don’t want our effeminate party boys keeping their wits about them, now, do we?

And it follows naturally that their first port of call is the musical mash-up extravaganza known as Rock Band 3. Luckily, we’ve got a Nikki Sixx lookalike handling bass duty, Slash’s doppelganger taking care of the shredding guitar riffs, a suitably doped up Tommy Lee double beating the drums like a man possessed and our petulant Axl Rose wannabe stealing the spotlight and all the Jack Daniels. Of course, I’m stuck with the keyboard because I’m constantly being shunned by the rest of the gang. Sods.

BobfocRJG 8 December, 2012 @ 12:58 pm   130

With my fellow party gamer sadsacks now straddling the precarious point of balance between tipsy and legally dead, it’s time for a little culture. We’re moving on to Buzz: Quiz World, a multiplayer trivia hootenanny with which to express our latent intellectual prowess in a convivial setting. After being soundly outwitted by our would-be Nikki Sixx whilst Jason Donovan’s unconvincing attempts at a British voiceover performance start to wear thin, we’ll console ourselves by attaching the Playstation Eye and taking pictures of our potentially incriminating post-round poses.

Sadly, that’s when things start to teeter on the verge of insanity. In typical glam rock fashion, order will inevitably descend into a hazy blur of naked belly-dancing on the sofa and concentrated urine in the plant pots, and that necessitates drastic measures. That’s why I’ll pull out Dark Souls, the most punishing form of audiovisual torture conceived this side of The Phantom Menace.

BobfocRJG 8 December, 2012 @ 12:58 pm   131

. My friends have, quite frankly, outstayed their tenuously granted welcomes, so it’s time to usher them out the door in a fit of brutal AI-induced fury at the hands of From Software’s anarchic morale-crusher. Five minutes later and they’re out the door in a huff of epic proportions, leaving me to clear up the festering tat they left behind.

Still, I’ve got one last Ace up my sleeve, and it’s courtesy of those photos we took during our all-too-brief foray into the Buzz! shenanigans. One fleeting flick-through of our snaps uncovers a plethora of damning evidence against Axl and his gratuitous exposure of his reproductive organs, leaving me privy to a veritable gold-mine of blackmail opportunities. Take that, Axl! That’ll teach you to dither over the release of Chinese Democracy!

papajoons 8 December, 2012 @ 1:35 pm   132

for my gaming night
First of all we will play playstation all stars battle royale for multiplayer madness! Then i will go with move and play sports champions 2 with my friends. Man what fun it would be competing in bowling and boxing each other! For the finale I’ll go with call of duty black ops 2 ending with a massacre!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well first we need to prepare good snacks, and when you want good snacks you know you want cheetos, you want Doritos, pizza and for the ones with weirder tastes they can bring from home!

Of course we all dress in the same way, t-shirt and a training suit shorts because my house is really hot!

Then it is time to play games!

The first in the line will be: LITLE BIG PLANET 2 a game where you can platform, challenge you friends, and its incredible the face they make when I annihilate them in the challenge games.

But in the second game the drink starts to do its job and its time to play TRYAD a game that is meant to be played while drunk!

And at the end of the night while everyone is sleeping it is time to play JOURNEY, and to listen to its beautiful soundtrack

1. Fifa (13)
Because all of my friends are really competitive and can’t stand losing. This way every time we play there are intense matches.

2. Mortal Kombat
After playing fifa and having lost it’s always fun to beat some of your friends up. (virtually ofcourse) Excellent way to take revenge.

3. Mario kart 64 (n64)
Years after it’s release still an awesome game. This is to date my best co-op/gaming night game.

Have to go quite old school for party gaming kicks. Me and a few friends meet up every week, as we have done for years and play a whole bunch of games. These are the three stand out ones:
1) Anna Kournikova’s smash court tennis (PsOne) Specifically the bomb blast mode – it was really good fun and the deaths were sometimes so random that it never failed to entertain.
2) Circuit Breakers (PsOne) While it was succeeded by Mashed and Wrecked, Circuit Breakers was never topped. Great tracks, well balanced power ups, excellent handling – a good time guaranteed.
3) Halo (Xbox) I know it’s a little off-kilter mentioning a game like this here, but it really has been our split-screen fps game of choice for years. It used to be Timesplitters, but Halo came out and stole it’s place for local multiplayer fun.

BadPiggie123 8 December, 2012 @ 3:04 pm   136

-Borderlands 2 (Best 4-p shooter available)

-PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale (Fighting with all my favorite characters)

-Uncharted 3 (Naughty Dog did an AMAZING job with this game)

These are by far the best split screen games ever made (I think Ratchet & Clank Up Your Arsenal is 4th place)

sonic all star racing transformed! I used to not like any sonic game. but this game is awesome and the multiplayer options are bad ass.

Just had a gaming night with my mates yesterday, Xbox fans, but sonic and borderlands had them playing till 4 am ><

tweelinkje 8 December, 2012 @ 3:33 pm   138

I would start to kick the crap out of my friends in some Mortal Kombat 9, then some split-screen shooter action in Borderlands 2 and end with some over the top racing in Motorstorm Apocalypse.

CrownerZ 8 December, 2012 @ 3:35 pm   139

I actually do this a lot, and te games I would play would be Guitar Hero, Blur and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. This combination + beer = Epicness !!

FredyGerblanski 8 December, 2012 @ 4:31 pm   140

One room, four corners, 3 TVs, and one table full of quesadillas, nachos and beer…

In the middle, 4 sofas shaped in a diamond, with extra movable bean bags for added heads on a screen.

On the Xbox – Halo 4 – many a great game nights have taken place in the Halo universe, many great custom games and general online multi-fun.

On the Wii – Super Smash Bros Melee – still king king of whack-a-mole brawlers, so much fun, even for the lesser able fighters such as myself. At least I know I can pummel a few times with DK or Snake.

Aaand on the PS3 – FIFA – 7 players on one TV… a big TV… a very big TV… *Kool-Aid Man bursting through wall* “Oh, yeah!”

Attire – keep it simple, your favourite gaming t-shirt. Has to be unique though! No Repeats!

…loads of fun!

FredyGerblanski 8 December, 2012 @ 4:59 pm   141

*I meant Super Smash Bros Brawl, but hey, either will do.

MightyCrow 8 December, 2012 @ 5:29 pm   142

usually the latest COD with my mates because it’s so much fun online. Then definitely a FIFA mini tournament (DCFC!) followed by a cool local multiplayer PSN game such as Wipeout HD or Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars!!

MightyCrow 8 December, 2012 @ 5:32 pm   143

For snacks usually Doritos with dips.

1) SingStar
A true Party Favourite! Always results in fun (Bad impersonations of famous people!)

2) Guitar Hero World Tour
+ A load of the awesome DLC of course! Brings out the guitarist/drummer/singer in everyone there!

3) LBP Karting
This game is, for me, the ideal multi-player party game! Fun and extremely competitive, but can result in a war to be the best :p

Bacon_Crispies 8 December, 2012 @ 6:03 pm   145

Goldeneye, Goldeneye and err, Goldeneye.
That game was really good, placing mines everywhere, messing about, you don’t need any other games.

Ah, this is easy.

1. Sports Champions – best game ever when having a few drinks with friends over. Seriously. Just make sure you put away all your expensive China and take down the chandeliers.

2. FIFA 13 – if it’s lads only, no better way of showing how much better you are than all of them by coming bottom of the league you’ve created. Yes, that’s right, bottom. It’s the new top …. in my world.

3. LBP Karting – After all that sporting action you need to relax with some nice sedate racing action. I mean, what can go wrong? Yes, rubbing is racing so a little contact is permitted, but rockets and landmines and all sorts of other painful and nasty ways to get taken out of the race is just plain wrong ….. or is it πŸ™‚ This is the game that puts the league table the right way round again and top is the new top, as I’m great at it.

Those are just 3 of the games that I’ve played during an evening in with mates recently, and perhaps the most fun of them all but there are plenty of variations to me had. Playstation titles are so diverse they can cater for everything.

As for snack choices.. One winner and one winner alone.

That is all.

belmont_gr 8 December, 2012 @ 8:50 pm   148

1. Mortal Kombat 9. One of the best fighting games of this generation with cool X-Ray moves and, of course, fatalities! We just beat-em-up each other! I hope that the new Justice League game, that comes from the same developers, is as cool.

2. Pro Evolution 2013. I know Fifa sells better but in my country (Greece) Pro is more famous. In Pro we play against each other but also we can play cooperatively and use our favorite Greek teams to win the Champions’ League or the Europa League, something that our teams clearly can’t do in real life!

3. BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend. I don’t know if a lot of people have tried this game (the game has various versions that are available for PS3,PSP and PSVita). This game is the perfect example of how a fighting game must play. It has balanced characters, two control schemes (one for more casual players and one for better players) and cool anime style graphics. The multiplayer is very fun too if you have somewhat mastered the character you use.

belmont_gr 8 December, 2012 @ 8:57 pm   149

Usually we don’t have snacks or dress themes. As for drinks coffee or traditional Greek wine.

Nothing worse than having to take part in games that aren’t playable by everybody from the off.
Proper party games have to be just ‘pick up and play’.

Singstar… ok. not everybody is michael buble – but it’s still fun, and I seem to get better at it the more beer I drink. πŸ™‚

Buzz…. Any of the buzz games. Great fun for the family. Even gran gets to have a go! (and normally wins.)

Last ones a bit of a wish really… Point blank HD collection? – Come on. do I really have to break out the old psone, 2 G-cons and my old big ass tv? It is really time we got to put those 2 move controllers to some real use! (and take the on screen sights off!)
Many A night was spent by me and several mates sitting up to the early hours on this gem.
Did a point blank night once combined with a die hard night…White vests and shooting at the tv after watching die hard 1,2 and 3. Defo lads behaving badly night! πŸ™‚

1) DeadSpace: Extraction, lure them into thinking its a nice fun move game, see who jumps first :X, would work better if not everyone is in the room at the same time, trick them into playing it one at a time. Might actually try this if we have visitors >=D
2) Buzz, Ive actually been meaning to upgrade to the PS3 version for some time now, but yeah 4 player buzzers (and I think up to 7 with my controllers if I do get the PS3 version) epic fun guessing on the last round and clutching it over people that know the actual answer but take too long to press the button =D.
3) Crash Team Racing, fairly simple to pick up and play, some memorable tracks and racers and a silly funtime to be had, sure the graphics look somewhat dated (hey, go HD that ;_; ) but its really easy to pick up and play and my sister is such a tryhard, its amusing using shortcuts and being yelled at and called a cheater :X.

Bonus props goes to Rayman Origins I dont actually own it yet but do intend to pick it up soon,3 player romping that looks simplistic enough for my mother to understand, but silly enough for me to enjoy (slap fight+cliff=family trolling O=<) really should pick that up incase we have visitors, looks easy enough to pick up and play.

Also snacks? wasnt in the box x_X. hmm, there will be Pringles. This is pretty much staple when someone comes round. And then I know my mother will put random biscuits on a heart shaped ceramic plate she has had for as long as anyone can remember o_O.
oh and cocktail sausages every year.
Depends how many people come but I might also make my “Ill leave it on maximum heat for a while and see what happens, no I didnt measure any of the vegetables” soup. Not really a “snack” so idk throw in some French Bread?

Fancy Dress? “people I dont talk to for a year that show up unexpectedly”? :X

The_Cannon-MOS 8 December, 2012 @ 9:51 pm   153

First I’d start off with a bit of old school fun with a massive multiplayer tournament on Micro Machines. A racer everyone can get to grips with and besides anyone who doesn’t have a laugh smashing a rival down the pocket of a pool table or into a bath hasn’t got a sense of humour.

Then after that fierce competitino you need some Guitar Hero 5 to bring people together, get some tunes going, everyone on their feet and rocking to some Bon Jovi, Gorillaz and Queen.

And at the end of the night I’d stick on Duke Nukem Forever. How else is everyone meant to know the party’s over and it’s time to leave? πŸ˜‰ And anyone who stays and plays this with you must be a true friend.

Food wise it’s got to be a classic buffet table. No party is complete without crisps, sausage rolls, cold pizza, cheese and pineaple on sticks and cocktail sausages on sticks etc. Plus food served on sticks means your hands and controllers don’t get greasy.

If I had to have a fancy dress theme, 80’s cartoons. Cartoons were much cooler then with Transformers, Turtles, Thundercats, Mario and Sonic etc.

First game would have to be Resistance 3 with survival mode on split-screen. There’s quite simply nothing better than the tension of a horde of grims coming at you and a friend soundtracked by Mastodon.

Second game would be Bomberman. A true classic game where even if you’re terrible at it you can have a great time. These games have just always been great for jump in and play couch gaming sessions.

Finally, I’d have to go with an old-school favourite in Pokemon Stadium. Sure, it was literally nothing but turn-based battles, but as kids there was nothing like seeing them all in 3D on the screen and for nostalgic face offs it’s one of the best times you can have on a console.

HPOOTP23 9 December, 2012 @ 1:20 am   156

1: Any Rock Band Game-The sound may keep the neighbors up but we ourselves will be having a great time.

2: Marvel vs Cap-com 3-Rotating between characters and having the ultimate showdown between two Captain Americas or as we say Captain Russia and Captain America.

3: Call of Duty Modern Warfare-We may get enraged with one another but at the end of it the thrill is in scoring a headshot upon the weakest of the group. At some point we will get bored and think why did we stoop to such a level as to play this game.

Czesionyo 9 December, 2012 @ 3:18 am   157

Thats an easy one:
– Apetizer: Playstation All-Stars Battle Royal (it was Dragon Ball before All-Stars show up) to stir an apetite for main course
– Main Course: Tekken 3!!! Yes 3 – still the best fighting game ever and it is hard to beat my frined because we all play since the game came out in 98 on good old PS One πŸ˜€ (record one roud time – 10 min 34 sec :D)
-Desert: any side scroller beat-them-up with Castel Crushers being favourite becasue everyone likes to fight over a priness kiss at the end of the night πŸ˜€

P.S. Pardno my English but it is not my primary language

officer_cartman 9 December, 2012 @ 12:13 pm   158

game 1 – borderlands2 nothing beats shooting and grabbing loot especially beating your mates to it

game 2 racing around in NFS:Most wanted take out your mates in style

game 3 Mortal Kombat what better way to finish off than performing a finishing move on your mates

dogwalker4000 9 December, 2012 @ 12:52 pm   159

I’ll pick the 3 games that I have enjoyed playing with friends the most. Firstly we’d have to play PES6, some my greatest gaming moments have come from this little beauty and is so competitive it’ll certainly get every ones blood pumping.

Then it would have to be summat like Mortal Kombat or Tekken Tag, keep everyone nice and competitive whilst keeping the violence to virtual only πŸ˜‰

After everyone has drunk themselves stupid I’d stick on DanceStar and watch in glee as everyone stumbles around trying to recreate OK GO’s treadmill video. Every video would be uploaded for future blackmail…I mean reference πŸ˜‰

PayaV87eng 9 December, 2012 @ 1:24 pm   160

#1 Mortal Kombat 9 – it’s TEH FUN. X-ray is just awesome and satisfying to laugh at your mate when you start one.

#2 Split/Second – A really good racing game, and almost nobody knows about it. If I’m last and my pal is 1st, I just drop a plane on him. Simple as that. It’s a damn good feeling to cheat!

#3 Fifa – Costume made leagues are always fun to play and watch… But usually those matches are the most hilarious, which are at the end. If you drink a lot of beer, you’re hand-eye coordination won’t be the same. πŸ™‚

Tangerineroach 9 December, 2012 @ 2:19 pm   161

It very much depends on who will be attending.

The first game has to be a fighter. If the attendants are all hardcore players, I would choose Virtua Fighter 5, because it’s my personal favourite. Otherwise, Soul Calibur V should do, or even Tekken Tar Tournament 2. It would also be a good idea to try PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Next up is the racer. Sonic & All-stars looks great, I always prefered karts to regular cars when it comes to parties.

The last slot is for a typical party game, rythmic, sports or puzzle stuff… As many of my firends know how to play a guitar I am tempted to choose Rocksmith. Otherwise, it’ll be Rockband 3, Sports Champions or Buzz.

Project2insanity 9 December, 2012 @ 3:48 pm   162

Micro Machines V3, Crash Bash and Timesplitters 2 because they’re all easily accessible, colourful and keep the mood light. Even if someone hasn’t played a title, he’ll start on fairly even ground which allows for closer calls and bigger laughs.

game 1 would be start the party. this game will get everyone pumped & ready for the games to come later on in the night.

game 2 would be buzz junior jungle party. even though it’s on ps2 & made for kids it’s great fun as it gets people of all ages going bananas! (you play as monkeys)

game 3 would be little big planet 2 as their is so many options to what you can play (or create) to keep the party going for hours!

for snacks we would have bags of crisps & a bowl full of maltesers (a bags not enough!)

pokersean 9 December, 2012 @ 6:13 pm   164

This was scarily difficult for me. There are far few multiplayer games now. But I got there. First to answer the secondary question we would of course have gummy bears and chocolate Santas to get in the Christmas mood.

Game one would have to be call of duty world at war. It’s the only call of duty game I own so it has to be the one. Even two player games can become hectic split screen battles with both players trying to shotgun their enemy. But a four player game, everyone having different guns, all on airfield, It would be amazing. Then switching to a zombie game to fight the zombies together. The fact that there is only one map is a bit of a downer. I would have to buy more of them.

pokersean 9 December, 2012 @ 6:14 pm   165

Continued from post 164

Game two is obvious. Gran turismo 4.Yes four. We are really going for older games here aren’t we. You’re probably wondering why four. That’s because I’ve played it more and have almost all of the cars unlocked. It is great to all play the worst car in the game and have a race where we take hours. It would be brilliant.

Last but defiantly not least, we have play station all stars battle royale. A [arty fighter for ps3 has to be awesome. Plus none of us would have an advantage as I haven’t played it. Because of this I don’t have anything else to say.

So yeah that’s my answer.

stewiejames 9 December, 2012 @ 7:41 pm   166

My first choice would be Rock Band 3 because all of the group can participate. Second choice is Grand Turismo 5. Who doesn’t love owning their friends on the Nurburgring? My final choice is Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations. My mates and I have had countless hours of fun reliving our favourite moments from the Anime/Manga.

stewiejames 9 December, 2012 @ 7:52 pm   167

Continued…also an anime themed night with games such as Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations, DragonBall Z HD Collection , One Piece Pirate Warriors and Bleach Soul ResurrecciΓ³n would be awesome.

artopand 9 December, 2012 @ 8:11 pm   168

Pong: This is the first game I remember and one of my earliest memories altogether! We’d spend hours to get the Atari to work (import!) but when it did it was brilliant. Even my mum would play, and she’s never touched another game since! Shame it did not survive: my brother and I decided to explore what its inwards looked like.
Super Monkey Ball: After wasting many years building my PS2 collection I decided NOT to have a console in my flat until I finished my Masters…then my brother gave me a Gamecube. I got Super Monkey Ball and before long the only thing we’d do with our girlfriends was to practice the art of catapulting monkeys into floating targets. There were laughs, swearing, and my, there were tears.
Heavy Rain: If anyone told me that I’d ever boot a game on my PS3 (I DID finish my Masters!) in which you’d spend the first hour getting dressed, using the loo and playing with the kids, and THAT would have everyone hooked up so badly they wouldn’t notice if their own kids went missing I would have thought they were mad. But damn me if I can recall any other game that demanded so badly to be enjoyed with others, and that made any thriller movie ever made seem as such a poor way to tell a story!

mulletboyjay 9 December, 2012 @ 9:13 pm   169

Game 1: Tekken/Soul Calibur
Game 2 (if we get there): Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars
Game 3 (again, if we get there): LittleBigPlanet

We usually start the night with a game everyone is familiar with and it usually ends up being winner stays on, which ensures rivalries pick up somewhere. If people get fed up, which we usually do by the time our thumbs are numb, then we play some SARPBC – if you don’t own it, you should! If we want to wind down at the end of the night, then LBP is the way to go, what with the limitless levels online.

Food: I usually bake something, so we always have a break for cake/biscuits/whatever it was.
Dress: Casual! But if we ever have a sports night, which are far too seldom, then that is often themed. And means FIFA/NHL starts with you always picking “your” team and then goes on to random teams for real competition!

Sometimes we have “online” evenings as well. So I’m afraid I can’t comment on what my friends wear or eat…but the games are always quality PS3 games!

    Fred Dutton 11 December, 2012 @ 9:21 am

You bake? Automatic hosting win right there. Final Sonic code is yours.

Well done to all this week’s winners. Your codes will pop up as a PM in your account on the offical forums. This may take a few days as it can take some time for codes to be processed. I’ll update you if things are taking longer than expected.

See you all back here on Friday!

Solid_Snake1987 9 December, 2012 @ 9:30 pm   170

Most of the parties involving video games I’ve been to have involved drink and often we’ve played drinking games. It’s sort of a game within a game, or “Gameception”, which is apt as people often get as confused as to what’s going on as they do watching the movie starring Mr. DiCaprio.

First up would be a sports game. FIFA or Pro Evo, host’s choice. Rules are pretty simple. You’ll have a drink of your choice to drink during stoppages (ball out of play or any other loading), lager or beer is a good choice. You’ll also have a line of shots. Every goal you score, your opponent must drink a shot. Yellow cards are shots. Red cards means drinking the rest of your drink of choice and starting another. The loser drinks the rest of the drink of their choice. Winner stays on. If it’s a draw, extra time is played with double punishments (two shots for conceding a goal etc.). If it goes to penalties then each penalty has a punishment. Scoring is the standard shot, but a save from the keeper means you must drink a shot. It’s a game that’s guaranteed to get Messi!

Solid_Snake1987 9 December, 2012 @ 9:32 pm   171

Next up would be the “Rubbish Rental”. The host deliberately rents an awful game. A game with multi-player co-op is best for this. The rules vary for this but generally if there’s a cutscene people drink “one finger” (the drunk’s unit of measure) from the drink of their choice. If there’s awful voice acting, a phrase constantly repeated, a bad joke then you have to drink “two fingers”. Dying in the game or failure dependant on the game results in “four fingers” or a shot if there’s any left. Then there are glitches. A non-game breaker results in half your drink (floating objects, camera screw-up, collision failures). A game freezing glitch is the remainder of your drink. This continues into everyone gets bored of the game. Generally not that long…

Solid_Snake1987 9 December, 2012 @ 9:37 pm   172

[cont. again…]

Finally it’s the “Retro classic”. Standard choices are Super Mario Kart, Goldeneye, TimeSplitters, Smash TV, anything good really. Rules generally don’t apply by this point, aside from the no Blue Shells, Oddjob or Monkeys obviously. We’re usually running out of alcohol, far too drunk, struggling to hold a controller or more likely a combination of the three by this point so there’s not really penalties for being rubbish. It’s more now about kicking back and enjoying some great games, which you appreciate more after a rubbish one before and you’re “a bit” tipsy.

And that’s how we hold our ultimate gaming nights. Now if only some of us could hold our drink better…

Oh and as for fancy dress we once did one as video game characters. I went as the Prince of Persia from the 2008 game. Even had Red and Blue tights tied to my head. The whole room was kitted out with TVs and Consoles and covered in gaming icons like Space Invaders, an 8-Bit Mario etc. It was an awesome night, but a bit cold on the way home. Wasn’t the best costume choice for travelling in I must say…

Little big planet 2 – epic sack-fun with 4 players, story mode and user created content. what can i say? SLAP!!

Planet minigolf – Fun fun fun. Crazy course, crazy ball, crazy power-ups and funny characters. Plus again you can play on awesome user created courses and it’s very easy to create your crazy-own.

Thanks for all your suggestions every one! Another fun debate, and I’ve enjoyed reading through these. There’ll be a slight delay announcing winners this week – look out for the anouncements on Tuesday morning rather than this afternoon. Sorry to keep you all waiting.

I pretty much give up too, I’ll keep my answers short from now on, been putting too much effort in lately.

    Fred Dutton 11 December, 2012 @ 3:00 pm

C’mon now, stay positive! You won one recently – it wouldn’t be right or fair if you got a code every week. Keep plugging away and I’m sure your time will come again.

lol you have won loads of times, why give up just keep plugging away and you will win again.

the gaming gods smile upon us all from time to time.

S-o-h-a-i-l 11 December, 2012 @ 3:16 pm   180

It doesn’t really have to do with winning lol, it’s just that I genuinely put a lot more effort in then I should – I write all my answers out on Word and then take another few minutes to shorten it out. That’s atleast 20-25 minutes answering a simple question every week. You’d think I’m sitting a timed essay or something lol. I’m greatful for the victories, but I think I’m better of keeping the answers short and sweet, that way I can participate in the debates for fun rather then for competition.

Congrats on the victory hayznik, I’ll see you and Fred back on here on Friday πŸ˜‰

yay friday fun day.

by freds reply to you im not gonna win lol but i enjoy the taking part πŸ™‚
