Heads-up UK readers – look out for GT Academy 2012 on TV this week. ITV4 will be showing a six-part series following the trials and tribulations of the British and Irish competitors as they try to make the switch from GT5 to real Nissan cars at the famous GT Academy Race Camp at Silverstone.

The series will air today, Monday 4th February at 8.00pm (GMT), with each episode repeated on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Fronted by Irish television presenter and long-time gaming and motorsport fan Craig Doyle, the show captures all the highs and lows of GT Academy and follows the contestants to discover which of them has the winning mentality and who will crack under the intense pressure.

As you know, 2012 was the fourth year of our partnership with Nissan running the GT Academy competition. We had 830,000 gamers enter on the special GT5 demo from 14 countries across Europe.

The six winners from the UK and Ireland National Final event arrived at the GT Academy Race Camp at the world-famous Silverstone Circuit last August, where they were put through their paces from the first minute. The contestants were truly tested to their limits in a gruelling set of driving, physical and mental challenges designed to measure what it takes to become a modern day professional racing driver.

Ex-F1 driver Johnny Herbert was the man making the difficult decisions as UK judge, ably assisted by experienced sports car racer and UK mentor Rob Barff. Johnny, Rob and Craig were fantastic with the competitors as they tried to get the best out of them and there are plenty of funny and emotional moments in the series.

The ultimate prize of GT Academy 2012 was to undertake the comprehensive Driver Development Programme before racing in the Dubai 24 Hours in January in a Nissan 370Z. You’ll need to watch ITV4 to see how the British and Irish lads got on and if they made it to Dubai – the subject of the final episode.

If you are a GT5 fan, you like cars and you are interested to learn a bit more about the science of racing then you have to watch GT Academy on ITV4 on Mondays at 8.00pm – and don’t forget to tell your friends!
