The Weekend Debate: PlayStation 4 – your thoughts

thin Blog-banner-weekend-debate

UPDATE: Many thanks to everyone who contributed this week – it was a great discussion and all your comments have been noted company-wide. The following 10 posters can expect to find a When Vikings Attack! download code in their PMs on the official forum later this week: S-o-h-a-i-l (post 14), Q-v9 (29), Mark917 (47), GothPunk (52), declan__watson (57), kriskrosbbk (135), theJJ88 (142), CaEsAr- (143), VenomousAlbino (160), Lucreto (221/222).

ORIGINAL POST: So, it’s been 48 hours or so now since our big PlayStation 4 reveal on Wednesday, and hopefully you’ve all had a chance to digest everything that was announced – from the DualShock 4, to the cloud service, to – most importantly – the games themselves.

Duly, this week’s debate topic is about as straightforward as they come. We’d love to hear what you think. Which games really impressed? What aspects of the hardware and online functionality stood out for you? And conversely, what reservations do you have?

The 10 most thoughtful posts win a download voucher for When Vikings Attack! Complete Edition, which incorporates the excellent When Vikings Relax! DLC released earlier this month, alongside the full game. It’s Cross Buy, so this one’s good for both PS Vita and PS3 owners. Good luck!

Honestly, you’re really asking me? hehe… I am going to do a write up, the kids are back at school next week xx

I think it was a good show, I still think the PS4 Console should of been shown as well rather than just the controller and the specs and the games.. What was the point in announcing it with NO DATE, NO PRICE AND NO CONSOLE?

Personally, what impressed me the most (more than any games on show) was the “suspend and resume” feature – really a killer for me! I really love this on handhelds – press the button, do something else, come straight back and boot straight into the game. Great to finally see this come to home consoles. I can see myself making a LOT of use of that one.

I also really loved some of the GaiKai tech. Playing as you download sounded great. Even more awesome, “grab the controller” through the internet. Pretty cool!

In terms of games, the most impressive for me (which a lot of people seem to be ignoring) was Knack. Major Ratchet and Clank vibes from that one, which is always a good thing. Can’t wait to hear more about it. Evolutions latest (Drive Club) looked great. As a massive fan of Sucker Punch, i can’t wait for InFamous: Second Son! I just loved the look of everything (except Destiny – sorry! Had enough of boring space shooters).

Great job with the reveal. Counting the days til E3!

Standout games: Watch_Dogs, obviously is an INCREDIBLE game, looks stunning. But, “The Witness” looks a really interesting puzzle game, graphically very pretty.

Standout Features: Share feature, rumoured before announcement, looks great, but the “Remote Access” style feature where you are stuck, and a friend can take control looks like it could be an excellent addition, but maybe it will aid services in which users pay to unlock trophies? I.e. add the “pro” as a friend, and then pay them to have remote access of the machine to unlock said trophies… at least currently you have to give your details to do this, so it has sort of kept those sorts of markets down as people have reservations about giving out the account details.

Reservations:

Just my opinion anyway

Overall, very impressed, cannot wait!

Also – who cares what the console looks like? Functionality and games are more important than what the console actually looks like (to me, anyway). I’d rather they concentrate on the games and functionality than just show off the console.

Apart from that, the console design probably isn’t anywhere near finalised.

i had a great time watching the show….but all i wanted to see was the console

Reservation: The Vita was supposed to be able to remote play PS3 games, been out a year and hardly any have this option. Hopefully the PS4 will come good on all the things shown in the presentation. Had every playstation console so far so I’ll definatley be getting this one too, just need a new tv to make th most of it now lol

The share functionality looks interesting…as long as it’s not just locked in with Facebook. Google+, Youtube and Twitter need to on their too.

PlayStation Home users are wondering if it will continue on to PS4 ?

The lack of backward compatibility with PSN titles is a bit daft ( BC via the cloud – do we have to pay again for the same game ?), for anyone considering buying a PS4 it will make them think twice about buying PSN games now.

Online subscriptions and paid for features, what will they be ?

There are so many more questions to be answered before we can get a good idea about PS4

I think the show was a good start. We had a nice glimpse of what’s to come in the next years, and Sony showed its presence to the public. Talking about the hardware, i thought that the processing power was going to be more than “just” 1.8 teraflops, but Deep Down closed my mouth instantly. I think that it’s a wise choice to use a pc-like configuration, so that the developers can do what they do best withouth having to read entire manuals on how to use ps4’s maximum capabilities. Of course we need more. We need a fair price, a lot of exclusives and a strong line-up. PSVita is clearly failing at sales, and Sony needs to address that more than ever.

I think from what I’ve seen, the PS4 is a console focused firstly on gaming and getting us to play together. I wasn’t to bothered by the social media side of things but the games on show clearly suggest that Sony are focusing on making a machine specifically for us the gamer and putting games first above anything else.

I love the idea that move will be implemented in the new console as my move controller has been gathering dust for some time now. The controller looks very nice and I can’t wait to use my tablet and phone to interact with PS4.

Watchdogs has to be my personal favorite from the games on show, followed closely by the new Killzone.

I really think the new PlayStation will encourage more developers to create new fresh games and I feel the PS4 will be the home of true freedom and creativity.

Now if only we could get a sneaky look at the console itself ;-)….

11

I think that Sony has the right idea with this console, I mean, the thing is there’s no point at battling it out for highest performance, pc’s will out perform consoles after a few months, but the fact that there’s no PS3 backward compatibility or psn account items that were bought to be transferred over is a real bummer to me… but, looks good overall.

The new improved Remote Play and the promise of all PS4 games (unless they use the PS eye, move etc.) playable on Vita was great news for me.

I don’t get it why people moan about the not showing of the PS4-case. Why is a piece of plastic more interesting then the specs and vision?

Anyway, if I take David Cages comparison, I’m sure that just like with film, the stronger technology opens up new ways for devs to make their visions real, without restraints. There will be games that weren’t possible before. I’m sure it’ll take gaming a step further again in terms of storytelling, emotion, but especially fun. It’s just a bit of a shame we didn’t really got to see those games yet. What we saw was great, but not something that blew me out of the water. But it’s early and when I think of Uncharted, which was e pretty straigh forward action adventure and compare it to Uncharted 2, who brought interactive set pieces that blew my mind, I know down the line, the PS4 will get his Uncharted 2, his Heavy Rain, his Journey, …

Even though suspicions were high of the PS4’s imminent announcement, it still took me by surprise. Funnily enough, it had nothing to do with the hardware itself, but the fact that the end of the current gen has arrived.

7 years ago I arrived at my local Curry’s store and purchased my very first PS3 with Virtua Fighter & Ridge Racer, what followed was years worth of fun, joy and entertainment. I am extremely excited to repeat that with the PS4.

I must say, kudos to Sony for nailing the presentation – they said everything we wanted to hear, and showed everything we wanted to see. The Dual Shock is the perfect blend of old and new, the Cloud services and social aspects are exactly where the gaming industry needs to head & the games…oh the beautiful games. inFamous, Killzone, Watch Dogs, Knack & Destiny ? Oh Sony, you know where my wallet is, help yourself you loveable old fool.

I m excited… very excited. I brought the PS and PS2 on Launch day but waited for the over priced PS3 to come down if price before buying one. Thousands of people did the same thing and Xbox gained a massive market advantage. Im sure no-one from SCE will see this message but if you do PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get the price right on the PS4 if you go over £350 Microsoft will trounce you by pricing the 720 at £300 and even if the specs aren’t quite as good people will go for the cheaper option. Second… If you don’t Launch in Europe at the same time as the USA and Japan you risk hurting a Massive market… I understand you are going after the huge Xbox dominated US market… but leave Europe too late and Xbox could get a foot in the door… I for one would not wait if the Xbox came 1st and cheaper… Dont let yourself down – worldwide release at a reasonable price and you will beat the Xbox for this Gen.

sounds awesome, share button, remote play and pause and resume sound like a gamers wet dream :). Watch dogs looks fantastic the controller is interesting would have liked a glimpse of the console itself though but as is pre-order is done as was for ps2 and 3 cannot wait. If ps+ works onit too thats just gonna be the icing on the cake cause next months games are gonna be killer. Off now to blag the missus into letting me get a vita lol

i watched the presentation live and i loved what i saw this will be a playstation for gamers and this is what i want!

but i fear that i have to pay to play online! so i’m a little bit concerned about the future…

I’m pretty excited. Thought they revealed a good chunk of info for everyone to get their teeth into but also held enough back to keep people guessing. For me though I couldn’t careless what’s inside the PS4 as long as it plays awesome games and is as enjoyable to own as the PS3 is.

Watch_Dogs looks awesome as does Killzone but inFAMOUS is the most exciting for me, will be interestibg to see how they implement a new character into the world. Hopefully he is more than just a fire version of Cole and has some even more powers.

I’m intrigued to see how you guys work with PS+ for PS4 because I can’t see AAA games being given away from the off, maybe another change in format is coming? Who knows? We know a lot about PS4 already but there is still so much we don’t know.

No matter how much or little is known you can certainly colour me excited.

Is it just me but the things the ps4 have they said the ps3 would have 7 years ago full hd cross play ect… Yes the ps4 will rock I no but not for me.it will be same old EU to US rip offs no show games with no word on why ow so now you need a ps4 to use the ps vita fully not the ps3 like they said from day one this will be the first sony console I dont own I no eveyone is excited but dont forget the last 7 years of lies and bad press in short the ps4 will be the best console but will be let down sonys ignorance to there followers .also no ps3 compatibility and no preownd games is not good at all

I’m not really sure what I was expecting from the PS4 in all honesty. I think at the end of the day, you can have great hardware, but without great games, there isn’t really that much point.
Sony’s 1st party studios have done an excellent job at showing what the PS3 could do, so I’m sure they will show what the PS4 is capable of. It also looks like this time, that most 3rd party studios are on board from the start. Imagine a Call of Duty, FIFA or Uncharted as a launch title?

As for the reveal itself, the game engines that were running looked genuinely smooth and capable of ramping up the detail to astonishing degree. It would’ve been nice to see some more in-game footage running on the PS4. The social side isn’t that important to me, I hope it doesn’t turn out to be basically a next-generation Facebook.
The most important thing now from Sony is the price, I do believe (and hope) they have learnt from the pricing farce that hampered the launch of the PS3.

Make sure its comes out at Christmas 2013 (Not after Christmas, when no-one has any money), make sure it’s cheaper than the PS3 was at launch and make sure you have a great line-up of launch titles.

Who will be getting a PS4? I most certainly will be!

21

I can’t say anything positive that hasn’t already been said, so I’ll voice my concerns.

I hope the social aspects can be done through the Playstation Network and the PSN friends list rather than having to sync with a Facebook/Twitter account.

I hope the automatic downloads and content profiling can be completely disabled. I don’t want any content on my console that I didn’t put there.

I hope Sony can realise their goal of having the entire Playstation library available on the cloud.

Those were main issues. Otherwise it looks like a great console.

ps4 graphics looked solid but no backwards compatiblility killed the whole console atleast it makes picking a different console easier
Considering ZERO backwards compatibility

I have to start by mentioning the brief collection of clips used as an introduction. It was very moving to see Final Fantasy, as well as games from all three generations.

I was really impressed by the social aspects of the PS4. What stood out most to me during the event was the ability to have someone control your game via PSN. To the possible annoyance of friends, I’m the sort of person who, when spectating a game I’ve already finished, tends to be the one to say, “Hold on — give me the pad! I’ll show you something cool…”
I’m very much looking forward to Killzone and Infamous. I was, admittedly, very surprised to see them announced due to how rife the PS3’s launch lineup was with new IPs. Both games look gorgeous and come from standout series, though perhaps an RPG should join the mix.
All I’m really concerned about is previous purchases I’ve no intention of selling my PS3, but it would be nice to have some way of accessing my collection without having to keep my PS3 set up. I’l...

All I’m really concerned about is previous purchases I’ve no intention of selling my PS3, but it would be nice to have some way of accessing my collection without having to keep my PS3 set up. I’ll be buying a PS4 primarily for PS4 games, but as always the history of PlayStation is a crucial matter.

A lack of money kept me from a PS3 for a while, but I predict no such issue with the PS3. It’ll be worth it.

24

A little disappointed but also excited. It wouldn’t have mattered what games you shown as I’ll buy the games I like if they’re good. I just wished you’d released more information regarding price, dates and optical drive. I’m not interested in mobile or ipad gaming and i really don’t care too much about watching others play. However I’m a fan of the Sony brand and will be buying on day 1 whenever that may be. Please lower your digital price of games as games age.

System specs were decent enough.

However im not sold on the controller, Im not into touch or motion controls so don’t want that sort of thing in the controller.
Also I hope the move camera bar is not a mandatory feature as I don’t want to have cameras on all the time & don’t have anywhere to put a camera-bar around my TV anyway.

Not into social media so none of that appeals to me, Don’t care about the share button as i’d never use it.

Since I hate the current Store design I wasn’t happy to see the PS4 dashboard seems to be following the design layout. Was hoping for something similar to the current XMB, Neat, tidy, unintrusive & out the way (Allowing you to use custom background images which is something i love doing).

Lack of backwards compatibility was a bit of a downer but nothing too big.

All the cloud stuff Im also not interested in as again I’d never use it (Especially given how unreliable & slow my internet is at times).

Only thing I care about is games (Especially single player stuff as i rarely play online) as that’s all I ever use my games systems for. To me everything else is nothing but an unnecessary distraction!

26

The PS4 reveal was magnificent and ps4 itself is great, I liked most of the features, especially the Gaikai part and I would love to play games on the cloud. As for the games nothing really caught my eyes, but I think Knack was ok and I’m especially hyped for capcom’s Deep down, the demo was excellent.

Part of me was really hoping for someone to take the stage and talk about “Move 2” for 5 minutes then reveal they are just messing with us, here’s the new console:-)

Very impressed with what I’ve seen, shame about the way backwards compatibility was talked about (Gakai), but if you could announce concrete plans for this, just see your digital sales of full release games sky rocket. Apple has this just right, tie your audience in to their eco-system and you have a huge advantage over your competitors imagine day 1 of PS4 and your entire PS3 instant game collection on plus is playable.

Very happy to see remote play and the Vita talked about, I’ve played so many more games since getting a Vita, the battle for the living room TV is getting more and more heated and this would be a great solution. The App for ios and Android! That I did not see coming, great that Sony are embracing other technology not fighting it, it’s really what Nintendo should have done instead of that very expensi...

It’s very hard for people to “Want” something they are still yet to see. If you can launch this at £299 it will fly off the shelves.

8GB GDDR5 unified system memory – enough said :)

The best way to describe the event is classy and well-executed. The music, the trailers, the presentation itself…everything just got me pumped!! What I love most about Sony is they make you feel proud to be a gamer. That’ War against reality’ ad is a perfect example! Unlikne most adverts it’s not an over-exaggeration (think of those ‘WOOO!! LOOK HOW MUCH FUN IM HAVING DRINKING PEPSI’ ads), gaming really is crazy cool fun :).

IMHO it doesn’t matter that we didn’t see the actual ps4 (would’ve been nice though). What matters is Sony has a vision and after that event I wanna be part of that vision. Long. Live. Play

Now give me When Vikings Attack :D

i moslty like the idea of playing the game for someone who is stuck when you are not even at his house. just everything was amazing Sony did a very good job. some people are furius abaout the fact that the console it self wasn’t showed but hey, what else should they have on E3. and the Fact it is a BIG pc in a LITTLE box is amazing, loved all the specs. 8GB unified memory WAUUW !!!

31

The technical specifications appeared far better then I had thought would’ve been the case which is great (8GB of GDDR5! – awesome).

I do need to see more games before final judgement but the fact that the 3rd party support list looks quite extensive should be a very positive thing.

Whilst I do like the idea of the social aspects of the console, I would prefer to keep a kind of barrier between myself in real life and virtual me – so my biggest reservation would be if I was forced to use my real name on the PS4.

i cant wait for inFAMOUS as a BIG fan of suckerpunch :D :D :D

During the presentation, on the screen showing the services expected to hit PS4 such as Netflix etc, I saw the PS+ logo. I wondered before the show whether or not PS+ would make a return seeing as backwards compatibility isn’t included and there most definitely isn’t going to be free PS4 games. So when I saw the logo it made me think in what possible way PS+ could be implemented. Maybe expanded to include films and TV shows on the video side of things but personally the absolute dream is Gaikai support. The talk of instant demos and such is hugely exciting and if it’s included as part of an already fantastic service it’s a clear day one purchase for me.

On a more moany note, I’m very concerned with the release. The PS3 hitting European shops a good six months or so after everyone else was such a kick in the teeth after all the hype. Obviously there are plethora of legal obstructions stopping a near simultaneous release but I think getting the console out in as many territories as possible by Christmas makes good business sense as well as a fantastic service to the potential fanbase. Other than that the whole thing looks absolutely fab and if the price is right you can definitely consider me a week one purchaser. Buzzing!

personally i think they have made many mistakes with the ps4 already.
dont get me wrong im pressed and cant wait to own it but they have made to many mistakes such as:
no backwards compatibility – i mean there is literally no point in buying games for the rest of the year as they will be rendered obsolete by the end of the year. im not some ten year old who has his mummy buy all his games for him, and if im going to buy a game i wont insurance that im going to be able to play it for many years to come. i thought sony would learn from their mistakes with the ps3, but instead they decided to make them the same. i mean at least offer some sort of add on device to unlock backwards compatibility or have an available special order ps4 that can play both.
focusing on sharing – this opens up the possibilities for the end of gaming. i can already see this becoming like facebook games with notifications constantly being spammed to share things and such.

I’m excited. Very excited. Here’s why –
Surprised with the no-show for the actual console. As long as its not in the shape of a phallic symbol and/or in some garish colour. Technically it looks very capable but my concerns with it being PC based components are that PC’s will be far more powerful sooner within the consoles lifetime than if custom chipsets were used.
The controller, whilst not a radical departure in shape from the Dual Shock 3, looks interesting. The concave sticks, chunky d-pad and lower triggers that don’t curve inwards all make the controller look more comfortable. I like the idea of the Share button (so I can show friends how I died for the thousandth time on first chapter of Dark Souls 3 perhaps) and the touchpad and Move light have potential but its really down to developers to prove they can be integral to a game. A headset jack may not be original but the included headset will be good for co-op games.

The new PS Eye looks good and its included which is good news. I’ve long felt that the current one is too low resolution and outdated so I’m hopeful this one will be huge improvement. It looks like a 3D camera too so that could be useful and the Move compatibility is good news.

First half an hour I would cut to 5 minutes to present the most important details of the ps4.
Try to avoid words, we industry leader, we’re the best, etc. Personally you’re the best to me and the first party games are the most enjoyable games since ps2 (my first console). There is million of games who thinks that Microsoft or Nintendo are the best and might get this statement offensive.
Love Killzone demo, would be nice if they improve characters animation (urgently – walking down the stairs). Drive Club looked stunning, I wish the was infamous gameplay. All the new features are welcome.
The biggest surprise 8GB RAM.
I understand why we didn’t see anything from ND and Santa Monica, hopefully at the E3.
Show us finally some The Last Guardian gameplay.
Lastly Square Enix last year demo was a joke. Just let the wacht the show as a spectators next time.

Well i’m excited about the games, DriveClub sounds awesome just hope they have a Mazda Rx-8 in there because that would make it awesome, Knack looks interesting, and the controller features like the touch and the move light thingy on the controller seems awesome for future creative games, but i have few question marks hanging over my head?
1. No start and select buttons? i guess the option is equivalent of start but no select?
2. I don’t need the disc BC on PS4 but i need the PSN store games BC just like the Vita has with PSP, so will that be there?
3.I wonder about the price i hope it’s not over 600 pounds cos that will cross it off for me … for few months at least.
4. Will the PS store be worldwide in terms of content? Because i’m tired of hearing about an awesome game (psone classics and some other re-release) and then hearing that it’s only on the Japanese PS store or only on the American store.

what the show missed was all the stuff that will make me buy one i.e

is the online gaming free still

what happens to psn purchases bought already

why they added a pointless touch pad on the controller

what happens to stacked plus subs

has it got singstar malware on the new xmb

do trophies cross over

etc etc

There are many more questions that need to be answered before i make my mind up on the ps4 even tho the games did look amazing even through a live stream,

I enjoyed the conference !

• The games look pretty and very detailed. FPS is not my favorite type of game but Killzone 4 looks awesome.
• Watch Dogs is my favorite game for the moment on PS4. It would be interesting to compare the PS3/PS4 versions.
• The UI looks nice and user-friendly. I hope we can still change the theme/background.
• Share options should be very useful (I just hope we can use Youtube, Flickr and not only Facebook)
• I like very much the Dualshock 4 and I want to know more what that touchpad can do.

We need more informations about the online (will it be free or a subscription or do we need the PS+ ?) and of course the price of the controller, the new PS Eye and the PS4 itself.
And what’s the size of the HDD ?

I hope to see a lot of PS4 games announcements at the E3 (or before).
I also hope the PS4 won’t be delayed in Europe.
Anyway the PS4 should be powerful enough to make awesome games and have lots of fun ! :)

I liked the fact it had 8gb ram as thats always been a problem with consoles (a lack of ram)
The Controller seemed interesting especially the share button, and may make me start making my own videos on youtube. (Dont know about the Move built into it though as it may drain battery faster.)

In terms of games im not so impressed, there was only 1 Big game as gameplay and that was Killzone, but even then the Video Quality was pretty bad so never got to see it leaps over the ps3 versions.

Overall I think I will stick to my ps3 a whole while longer :)

MordecaiHunter
touch pad on the controller = like mouse !!!!
= great in store + also strategie games ore fast movement in hotbarmenu

tekst whith stylus pens instant in gameplay ???

Been a wonderful night watching the show. I think that new controller looked amazing. At first I thought it was weird and wasn’t so into it but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Would die just to hold one and see what it feels like in my hand.

What I’m really looking forward to checking out is the share button and the touchpad as they look exciting and there’s nothing better than seeing something new especially on a controller.

For the games, obviously I’m very excited for Killzone 4 and Infamous second son as the previous games has been one of my favorites. But I’m looking forward to trying out the new games Knack and Driveclub. Would need more time to find out more about Destiny and Deep Down before I can judge them but from what was shown, they looked impressive.

The camera also looks impressive so I’m excited to checking it out too but would put it to the bottom of the list. The cloud gaming is a great idea to play the older games but then again have questions to ask ...

Will most likely be buying my PS4 on day one but until then I hope all questions will be answered. Cant wait for E3!

I wish ps4 much brighter future than ps3 .
Ps3 era started with awesome, decisive ,as some would say, blue ray standard win over hd dvd and continued wiht global crysis . Cell processor was so cool then, but now we have super :) smartphones and amazingly cool tablets while crysis is being forced to be over.
Do not underestimate the power of playstation .

For me it was a disappointment. Why? It seems to soon, there’s still life in PS3!

It puts PS3 users in a bad mood, I have 2 PS3 and I’m a plus subscriber and it doesn’t look good to ear about PS4 coming now. What is going to happen to PS3 that still has a lot to give?
So PS4?! Ok, new remotes, functions, etc… I like retro-compatibility (nice) but the rest lacks the power to make me excited. What about the current controls, move controls, this was not mentioned so i said that ps3 owners are not pleased, well i’m not…

And where is the price?! What about what everybody already spent in PS3 with controllers, move packs, singstar mics and cameras?! What about this? A lot remains to clarify…

Sony created a big show for this, but in my opinion it should launch it in full power in late 2014 or early 2015, not while PS3 still is what it is.

(part 1 of 2)

(part 2 of 2)

I just bought a PS3 Superslim 500GB (new model) in January 2013… so i’m not going to buy the PS4 in a near future, because it will be too expensive and it won’t be perfect… And coming so soon, it probably won’t attract me vey much, i’ll probably wait a few years after launch so that Sony can improve the PS4 because for me the first models will have a few problems…

I started with the PS1 (still working), moved to PS2 (still working and used with buzz junior games) and now i currently use PS3, so for me its way too soon for PS4. 2015 would be the year for it, it would have been the perfect announcement for me, so that we could wait eagerly for it and plan to acquire it.

Excited with the announcement?! Sorry, but no,i feel like an PS3 orphan that doesn’t know if its going to be put aside…

What stood out to me had to be the plethora of games that I’m now anticipating. They all look so good! inFAMOUS: Second Son, Watch Dogs, Killzone: Shadowfall, Media Molecule’s… Thing! It looks like all of the developers are already starting to push the system to it’s limits. However, if it sets the standard for the new generation of gaming goods then I say they should work it until it’s on the brink of destruction.

But what I really can’t wait for is the share button on the Dualshock 4. Livestreaming games? Taking screenshots at any time? Saving videos of gameplay? It just seems like the kind of thing gamers have been waiting for forever. At the touch of a button, instead of telling our friends about our adventures in Skyrim (I’ll be getting Dawnguard the week coming) we’ll be able to SHOW them directly as they happen! Didn’t have a camera when that embarassing glitch happened? Not a problem, it’ll be on Youtube within the hour you find it anyway! Want to show everybody some live ...

It all seems like a dream. And now I’m going to be wasting my summer away waiting for Christmas to fall around.

(part 2 of 2)
Now the games.
To be honest I never really enjoyed Killzone when it was released on PS2 but I loved KZ2 and KZ3. I had been getting excited about Mercenary on Vita but Shadow Fall has just blown me away. Not only does it look stunning but the environments were alive. More often than not the only people you see in shooters are the enemy or teammates but there seemed to be civilians littered about which makes me wonder if we’ll have to pick our shots more carefully than normal.
Drive Club looked ok but not as good as perhaps I expected. Evolution hasn’t disappointed before so I’ll keep an eye on it anyway. Then again it wasn’t gameplay footage. Neither were Knack or Infamous which doesn’t really help spark my interest either. Both Destiny and Watch Dogs looked awesome and really interesting.

Anyway, that pretty much covers it I think and I’ve pre-ordered mine. All I need now is an UK release date (simultaneous worldwide release please) and a price (£350 would put it in line with Wii-U Premium)

Enjoyed the show, now we shall see if sony can keep their specs unlikely ps3 where they nerfed the final hardware..so no 4gb for final product sony. keep the 8gb.

Why even show footage (tech demo) from Epic Games? They do not support sony playstation products despite sony have tech demos (from epic games) for events. (ps: Unreal4 tech demo looks hidious – rushed much?).

I welcome Diablo 3 thou. Always wanted that for our beloved console.

Ill be getting the ps4 day one it releases as i did with the ps3.

50

I was excited about the console,The games shown didnt really do anything for me . They didnt really seem to push out the box enough .
The down side to the console for me , This whole social aspect to gaming( linking to facebook etc ) its not what I want from a console. I dont want to store to pre-empt what I will buy because my buying doesnt stay constant.
Its a huge shame I wont be able to transfer this gens PSN games to next gen, being a plus sub I have a huge list of games I would like to play on it . Yes I know I can just keep my PS3 , but buying a new console I would rather have the ability to play them on there .
Especially since the launch lineup for me isnt special so non will be purchased .
I dont want to clutter my TV unit with both PS3 and a PS4.
Also ps+ wont be very good during the start of PS4 as there wont be much content to share . Be good to know how ps+ will work withPS3/PS4&PSVita though,.

51

As someone who didnt hesitate to upgrade to the newest playstation in the past based on the performance of the previous generation i shall be looking to see what the competing platforms have to offer first before i decide which to buy

The reasons,
Late releases compared to other platforms/regions

Lack of backwards compatability means starting affresh, so whats keeping with me playstation? (although i guess in a few years i can rebuy any ps3 games that have been rebranded as PS3CLASSICS)

Social networking features in games dont appeal to me, i dont want to watch someone else playing a game when i can play it myself and i cant see why anyone would want to watch me play

The games did look immpressive (Killzone, watch dogs) but the same can be said for any launch titles for any new console

What really stood out for me watching all of the videos was that I felt like games can now be a perfect translation of art to screen. I don’t think that every game needs to be photo-realistic, and I know that the PS3 has some great assets, but I guess the PS4 just doesn’t seem to put limits on things anymore. It makes me hope that artists can have things look and move exactly how they want them to.

Another thing that is becoming more and more important for me as I get older is my time. For that reason I think ‘Immediacy’ being a target for the PS4 is really important. Ever since I got my PSPgo and was able to suspend and resume a game I’ve wanted that feature on a home console, and it’s great that it’s finally going to happen.

I guess it’s a simple idea, but I really think it means a lot. Being able to spend more time gaming and less time with loading screens and downloading patches tickles my fancy!

Oh and 8GB GDDR5 of course! :P

After being away from internet for a week, I return and the first thing I did was check playstation blog! I’m a huge fan of the new controller and the ability to have all my games on my vita as well! However, what made me most excited was InFamous – Second Son. I literally jumped for joy! I have been so missing a new story in the InFamous series, after completing 1,2 & FOB multiple times. This will be the primary reason I buy a PS4, I would love the latest game in this series and the ability to transfer it across to my Vita as well, is just heaven!

The one concern I have is the design of the console, I am hoping it will be of similar quality to the first (Fat) PS3, with the gloss, piano black finish. If it is of this quality, it will be an instant purchase! The slim models impressed me less, just felt a little weak.

Overall, however I am excited, and cannot wait for more details!

Overall I thought the “big reveal” looked amazing and ultimately who cares if you didn’t get to see the actuall PS4 because last time I checked you neither hold nor watch the actual console when playing games – unless its actually the Vita 2 ;-)

Best feature for me: Suspend and resume as I absolutely love that on my Vita and PSP.

Least Interesing feature for me: “Share” as while I understand the reasoning, I just don’t do social networking

Most confusing: Nothing to do with Sony per se but there seemed to be a big deal made of games coming out for PS4 that will also be out on PS3, Wii U and so on. What will the big PS4 difference be? Graphics, AI, something else?

To sum up my feelings on the whole thing: Best tease ever and I’ve already set aside £500 that was for soemthing else and is for the PS4 and several games!

mr-blue1978

i want new console
i buy day 1 first ps3 then i buy 2 one later

but lots of good games are limited by our consolles

everybody gets ps4 / new ms box ore other when them want !

if them want to sel huge = 400-449,99€ reason = 400/450€+ 1 game =460/510 €
when 499,99 = alrady lesser 500€+ = chooting u self down in dificult times .

I am very pleased with PS4! The big surprise about the 8 GBs of RAM was awesome, becuase in combination with the hardware, all of the little online extras Sony offers will be great! I also liked the PS4-Vita connectivity and Remote Play of PS4 titles (please, make it be an ad-hoc connection, not via home network WiFi like the PS3-Vita connectivity).

There weren’t many actual games in the presentation. Only the new Killzone and Watch Dogs if memory serves (and Knack to a lesser degree) were shown gameplay-wise. But I was really impressed with the tech demo by Media Molecule. The music band played by the 4 PS Move controllers was fantastic fun! I really expect them to surprise us more!

Hey Fred ;)
And a Good evening to the PlayStation Nation hope your all doing good on this fine evening. :)
Anyway back to topic PlayStation 4. :) 3 words “What A Show” I loved every bit of it and I am sincerly excited for PlayStation 4, the new interface looks amazing, the controller is epic, PlayStation Netwrok being the best gaming and entertainment network on the planet and will continue to be thanks to the Gaikai intergration and of course the games. Killzone Shadow fall, Infamous Second Son and DrivClub these are 3 great games that are epic and I look forward to playing them on PlayStation 4 and with the Compatibility for smartphones and tablets and using a PlayStation app to control your PlayStation 4 I look forward to this too. ;) I am happily to say that PlayStation 4 is already on my Christmas list. ;)

really liked the show and happy with the annoucments and that some speculations are right and some wrong

– I still like to buy games in a shop, so happy that the rumors that it may not have a blu ray drive anymore are wrong, but with ps plus as well i love the new possibilities of digital downloads (playing while downloading, testplaying via gaikai, downloading no matter what you do due to the extra chip – all sound really confortable and cusomer friendly)
– can’t wait for the new infamous, killzone looked great too and that cpacom trailer blew my mind..
– yes- I would have loved to know the price, release time in europe and also design, but allready feared that we don’t get all details so early

but overall i am simply happy that playstation overall stays what it is… the core the is the same, of course with better graphics and features… but I neither own a wII or move or kinet and want the the controller i know meanwhile for 14 years and I get it… I enjoy the confort of digital down...

(continued)

I am not a hardware enthusiast, I don’t know enough in order to say if the chosen hardware is good or not, but I trust Sony did their best in this department. As far as online functionality goes, two things stood out for me: the ability to download a game and being able to immediately play it while the download continues in the background (I have downloaded many games in the region of 10 GBs, and I need some 5 hours to download it before playing), and the ability to take over the game of a friend via PSN to help him advance in his session, during a difficult battle or else!

I am somewhat sceptical about the Gaikai streaming service, an obvious means to offer backwards compatibility to older games (PS One, PS2, PS3, or even PSP). I have a 10 Mbps ADSL connection (performing at 6,5 Mbps), and I don’t know if it will be enough to stream PS3 games in particular, with minimal lag (which is exactly my point of concern).

(continued)

And finally, the controller. The DualShock 4 isn’t ugly, I think the new curved sticks will be better, the redesigned triggers will be better too, and the new d-pad (which resembles that of PS Vita) will let me play fighting games again, because the old one was uncomfortable. I don’t understand the blue LED light on top of it. If PS Move is still supported, and DualShock features SixAxis motion control, what purpose does it serve? Maybe Augmented Reality of some sort?

61

As for me, watch dogs and the new dualshock were the most impressive things shown at the presentation. I am really interested in how touchpad will be used in games and how the option button works *-*. I hope much more games and features will be revealed at E3.

Reservations about integrated social sites, as there is nothing more annoying than having Facebook shoved in your face when you don’t even use the site.
Also, slight reservations regarding the psn and whether everything mentioned will be available on day one or whether we will have to wait; things such as streaming ps3 games and try before you buy. Sounds good though.
Another good feature is the power on/off feature. Brilliant idea.
Being connected to friends is great but so long as I can have private time if I want to be unsociable. Sometime I just want to play offline and not be bothered with invites etc
The games look great, especially “Deep down”. This. caught my eye the most even though I’m a massive Killzone fan.

Very, very impressed with the PS4 reveal. The specs are awesome and I love the new dualshock4 which looks like being the most advanced controller ever. Equally impressed with the games shown with the new KillZone, Watch Dogs and Deep down titles being the stand out’s for me.

Can’t believe some idiots were complaining that we didn’t hear about price or exact launch dates – did they want Sony to email a PS4 launch blueprint to Microsoft too?! Sony did well to reveal enough to get people excited but not too much so as to let Microsoft in on everything the PS4 will have to offer.

I’ve pre-ordered my PS4 with shopto already and just can’t wait for release day!!!

What impressed me about the PS4, is how the graphics are looking good! I was totally shocked when i saw Killzone: Shadow Fall in action. It looked brilliant! I also liked the part where you can live stream your gameplay and upload it to Youtube! That’s a neat feature i’ve been asking for in years. Now we don’t need those capture cards anymore. The interface looks neat too, seems user friendly to people.

The controller looks a big step forward. For me, it does look comfortable.

About the games. Watch Dogs looks very awesome. It’s like you take control over the whole town! And same goes for Killzone: Shadow Fall, again the graphics are the boss here.

For me I was kinda dissapointed because of all the non-gaming aspects & gimmicks which were displayed.

Social aspects, Touch pad controls & motion controls simply don’t appeal to me.

Also the new UI is horrid, It looks just like the current store which i simply despise to the point where i rarely bother using it anymore. I never needed to ever use the search feature on the old store layout because everything was well laid out, easy to navigate & easy to find. Im having to constantly use the search feature on the new store because i can’t find anything otherwise, Its worse than the hideously bad xbox360 metro dash & windows 8.

Regarding controls, I really hope developers don’t start making touch-controls & motion controls mandatory in games, If they do then i will not be buying a ps4 as i don’t want to play games using touch or motion controls.

Also I seriously hope the camera thing for move isn’t mandatory, Don’t want to have a camera on all the time to play my games & I don’t have ...

for me its the 8GB RAM because the services is for US only……… EU after 2 years (maybe) .. the game i cant wait for is watch dogs & will be released on PS4 ..it really doesn’t get any sweeter than this……<<BUZZING

67

Hi, Fred, I rearranged my work schedule so I could watch the live stream. Very exciting. I need to learn more but of course I will buy it. I don’t care about the social features but that is aimed at the young millenials who have to be online all the time with their friends instead of the bothersome old school tradition of being with friends in person, the silly kids screaming for cross-game chat on the PS3. In other briefer words, the Xbot types.

I loved the pause/resume feature. Since I game every day the annoyance of having to press the start and X buttons multiple times just to get back where I left off is literally the worst part of gaming for me. Yes, I know, first world problems.

The price on the PS4 version of Watch Dogs is $99, $40 more than the PS3 version. Yikes! I’ll pay it but it worries me that it will hurt the new console just as the price of the memory for the Vita inspired a whole new group of cheapskate complainers on the US blog.

(Continued) The Social features of PS4 wasn’t my cup of tea thought… Except the Youtube part. The PS4’s hardware seem’s very strong. 8GB of ram is totally awesome. It does look like Sony is not joking this time around. Good job guys!

I was really impressed with the games, no real surprises with the hardware but Watch Dogs was the most impressive for me, it looks beautiful and drive club also does.
And since i’m already a massive fan of killzone and infamous i really can’t wait for the ps4’s release.
The only disappointment was the lack of showing the actual console and a price would of been nice.

70

The thing that most blew my mind was the tech demo featuring the old mans face. I have never seen anything like it. You can actually feel it had a soul due to the way its face altered during the demo. Imagine what games such as L A NOIR could be like on PS4 with that technolgy, the possibilities are incredible. I cant wait for PS4’s release and Playstation to retake its crown as the gratest console on this planet!

I’ve spent quite alot on my ps3′s, and i wont be buying ps4, nor do i care to re-buy all my digital games. Cloud service? yeah right, it will no doubt take you 4 years after ps4 release to get it working, sony make cheap half-hearted rubbish these days, I lol’d at the “were know what your want to play” bs, spamstar anyone? yeah i can just picture the new xmb LoL, the whole announcement went like this “blah, blah, blah, blah, blah”

Also….

Post from Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida…

When it comes to transferring other PSN purchases to the PS4, Yoshida said, “We know who purchased what as a record. But we are working on service plans, and we haven’t decided yet.”

service plans…

I would have liked a price and definitive date.
But I geuss we’ll have to wait untill the E3 for that.

Still I will probably buy the PS4 on day one…

I’ve said mt piece regarding lose of digital content so won’t harp on about it.

Share button

I’ve had an idea for a GT5 tournament for a long time. But because I could never capture the footage I’ve never put it forward on forums.

Share would help me get the ball rolling with this. I’d live stream the event, and be able to capture everything I feel I need for a highlight package. That would involve getting every angle from every car then editing.

I did notice a trimming option, so it would be great if Sony expanded the current editing software found on PS3’s XMB. Or have a editing tools withing GT6. It would be really nice if PD (and other games) gave us a set tools to place cameras and such in a directors mode.

As feedback for Sony,I’d like to see the ability to connect and record footage to an external HDD. A menu that allows the user to dictate when recordings go to that drive, and start and stop recordings on that drive so we can grab chunks of footage.

As I have 3 ps3’s I would like it if ps4 was compatible with ps3 games otherwise I won’t be buying any as it means trying to replace all my games like I had to after ps2 was faded out to make way for ps3 don’t fancy doing this again

It all looked pretty decent. I like the spectator options, ability to do videos and streaming demos etc but you lost me at the moment it was mentioned that digital purchases from this gen will not carry forward. I appreciate there is a technology issue between the machines but that has been a big concern of mine for some time since i have invested a lot into games on PSN and Xbox Live and they are games i would like to take with me to the next gen since i’m not the sort of gamer who simply has to play the latest installment of the latest franchise.

I also worry about the fact that someday, probably not too far off, support for PS3 will be dropped and the digital downloads will disappear from the store, PS+ won’t be relevant to PS3 meaning i no longer have access to the games i currently do. For these reasons i believe in the future i will be a PC gamer where backwards compatibilty is not an issue.

I think the reveal of the next-gen Sony PlayStation 4 was great and I kinda liked the new prototype design of the DualShock 4. It looked nice and so were the buttons. Also the games themselves were kinda promising for the new PS4 such as KillZone: Shadow Fall, InFamous: Second Son and Evo’s new IP, Driveclub but kinda disappointed WipEout will not be one with Studio Liverpool gone.

Also, I loved the tech demos especially the one from QuanticDream where David Cage showed off his tech demo of an old man and the textures looked very realistic.

Also, the sharing feature was kinda a great idea and I’m glad the PS4 is able to play used games. Let’s hope the PS4 can do well like the PS2. Bring on E3

(Part 1 of 2)
It was wonderful. I’ve had a PlayStation 2 when I younger and it was my FIRST EVER console. Now with the PS4 on the way, I can say that I will be buying Day One. I have to admit with that Share Button, you guys will sell this console by the buket load and now, here’s my opinion on the games…

(Part 2 of 2)
Killzone Shadow Zone = This looks great and the graphics are stunning. I might get this at launch with the console itself.
Driveclub = This is not usually my type of game but it impressed me with the sheer power of the PS4’s graphics. I hope gameplay will look like that.
Destiny = Again, another game I would buy at launch. Bungie has made it’s first PlayStation game and it might become one of the best shooters of all time if done right.
Watch_Dogs = I had my eye on this one for the PS3 anyway but I’ll likely buy it on the PS4 now. The new gameplay footage looked amazing and it made my jaw drop. I can’t wait to take control of that city when it comes out at the PS4’s launch.
Knack = This will be the game I’ll get with the PS4. Something to show all of it’s features with Pixar quality visuals and gameplay similar to R&C, Jak and Crash. Count me in for this one.
inFamous: Second Son = I loved inFamous 2 (Thanks PSN +) and I can’t wait to control the smoke powers to kick ...

Overall, I’m looking forward to the PS4 and it’s games.

Im ready, but waiting for e3 – after e3 i will decide if i will go day 1. or after 6 months…

Overall, I’m looking forward to the PS4 and it’s games. Count me in with the next gen Playstation. :p

I loved the show – the ps4 is definately THE next gen console, as expected the pad with the touch portion but keeping with the style was lovely. The console we, of course, didn’t see but can guess it will ooze the same.

The games that stood out for me were Killzone, Infamous and Driveclub, I also loved the Move sculpting stuff (sucker for gimmics I am). The Vita integration appealed a lot expecially the possible playing of all PS4 games too!

I am most disappointed for the lack of backwards compatibilty, not for the disc based games but for the many, many games I have purchased from the PSN shop! if they had been playable then I would of purchased the new console at launch but now will wait till the time is right, I will probably get a 2nd PS3 instead just in case the 1st goes wrong!

I’m very excited by the announced games, the launch titles will sell the new console. All the hype around the conference was a slight let down on the night. The specs are amazing on that alone i know I will buy one. But building up hopes for a PS4 & showing an already seen DS4 was a disappointment. That being said I’m not sure the conference was a publicity stunt for the general public, it was obviously for the big wigs. – Looking forward too the advertising campaign, I will be staying loyal to sony personally.

What I reacted negativly to is that there was no menchon of unifying the PSN stores of Europe into one store, to get away from the mess of games not released in all of EU at same or at all.
Also, Backwards compability is a paramount feature that is NEEDED. (Got the 60gb PS3). PS4 buying is fully depending on either of my two concerns are fixed.

Initially i thought “Is the PS4 really necessary at the moment?” Then i saw the Watch Dogs walkthrough, i thought “Oh god this is the next level! This is total immersion, every game will be Heavy Rain x10”.

What blew me away wasn’t just the polished graphics, but the sheer number of objects, people and polygons on screen, added to the photo-realistic lighting and i thought this is when games become as good as playable movies. After i watched the clip it had me thinking, with such powerful hardware and realistic models etc. developers can essentially create the exact world they want, exactly how they imagine it.

I remember when Mario 64 came out and people were saying “It’s like playing a pixar movie!”, then when Tools of Destruction came out it was actually true, now that Knack has been shown CGI movies look tame in comparison. Not just in terms of pixels, but the ambiance, story telling and emotional involvement.

Not just in terms of pixels, but the ambiance, story telling and emotional involvement.

So to me, the most exciting thing about the PS4 is what it gives the developers – the ability to fully express themselves, to show us the world how they see it and make us feel how they feel.

On a final note, Hideo Kojima once said he wasn’t 100% satisfied with MGS4…. Metal Gear for PS4!!

I think it was a really good showing from Sony. While the PS4 itself wasn’t shown, the company revealed a load of stuff which I enjoyed seeing – the games, hardware, and some of the stuff you will be able to do on it (i.e. sharing screenshots and videos). The new Killzone game, The Witness and inFamous: Second Son particularly interested me, and the rest shown also looked good. I liked the way that the PS4 is more of a social experience than the PS3 in some regards too, for example, in that you can see what your friends play. Also, I’ve wanted for ages to be able to take pictures and videos on my PlayStation in games, so that’s a plus. Finally, the controller looks nice – not perfect, but very good. A great conference from Sony overall, then!

86

Im for once very excited, since this will be the first generation that will incorporate both the hard-gamers and the social-gamers. I look forward to some creative games that fully uses the potential of both the new DualShock and the Move-controller. This will be a very interesting release, hopefully there will be a wonderful christmas this year.

I loved everything about the reveal, from the exciting build up to when the name PS4 was mentioned. I loved the lot, the revelation the suspense and the disbelief that the PS4 was finally being officially announced. As for the PS4? So hard to decide but I think it has to be the sheer beauty of the graphics, they look so life like and realistic it was like looking at a film. It surpassed my expectations in more ways than one.

The PS4 needs the Steam services on and never include Origin.

The Witness is the most interesting game to me. Hear me out. :)

I was pretty interested – although not overly so – in The Witness already based on previous information, but I was disappointed that it wasn’t going to be coming to the PS3. The Windows and iOS versions are not an option for me, since I’m a Linux user at home, so it’s wonderful to hear that the game is coming to PS4 – a system that I know I will buy.

On it’s own however, the previous information would not have been enough to sell the PS4 to me though. The clincher was a combination of the massively impressive trailer and hearing that the game will be 25 hours long, which is massively substantial for a game of this type.

The Witness is going to be the next Portal. It’s the PS4 killer app for me. :)

btw,
did everyone get a e-mail who signed in to the ‘reveal’ post other week ?.. haven’t had mine yet. is there a problem or are they only being sent to the ‘other’ kind of posters..

If the PS4 doesn’t arrive until 2014 in Europe as rumored, I may have to purchase an Xbox. Not impressed :-(

Just had an email from shopto.net. They are taking deposits for the ps4 with a retail price of three hundred and eighty eight pounds eighty five pence.

Wish it had wipEout, but ill be buying it anyway.

Vita had wipEout 2048 thankfully.

The PS4 announcement was good, but there’s scheming still to do to ensure success.

The 8GB of unified GDDR5 RAM was a VERY important statement. Microsoft will have 12GB or 16GB of DDR3 RAM, a Halo title & Forza 5 along with 8 other first party IPs available at its launch at E3 2013. It will be 1995 & SEGA all over again, but this time Microsoft is bringing its “A game”.

Christmas 2013 is too late for the PS4 to launch in the USA. 2014 will prove to be a disaster in the UK & mainland Europe.

Sony, here is your 5 point plan for success:

1.) SKUs
a) 320GB Hybrid Hard Drive.
b) 1TB 7200RPM HDD.
c) 2TB 5400RPM HDD.

2.) NAMCO Ridge Racer Revolution.
An exclusive PS4 port of the PS1 original with online multi-player. Build it.

3.) Gran Turismo 6.
Launch title. 250+ cars. All tracks. Online leader-boards.

4.) GTA V.
Next gen timed exclusivity (6 months minimum). Pay the price & deliver.

5.) Kevin Butler appears on stage. The Grand Finale. $299.

Two things impressed me – first, the simple fact that PlayStation is still about GAMES! They showed games! Not a huge oversized controller which you can use to change the channel on your TV, just some neat GAMES.

The second thing was seeing David Cage announcing that finally technology has reached the point where we can use subtle details to project emotions. It was a wonderful speech, I loved the comparison to the early days of movie making and I hope that many developers remember his words and we’ll start seeing more games that are just brilliant pieces of art because technological limitations won’t stand in the way of their creative minds.

97

Sadly nothing game wise stood out for me, but the interface looks pretty awesome! The director’s mode is very interesting, the idea of jumping into someone else’s game and being able to have some kind input is awesome. Also remote play with Vita! YES! Hopefully something like this will help the Vita get a lot more love, because it is a great little piece of kit! Also I reeeeeeeeeeally hope that the PS4 is region free just like the PS3 and Vita! Anyway, I’m excited. Can’t wait to see what’s next, hopefully some more game reveals at E3!

98

Thought the show was well put together and not too over the top as some of these events can be. As for the PS4, I am very excited; the announcement of 8Gb of RAM and PC like architecture means that it should be a beast of a machine.

Features such as “suspend” and play while downloading seem great, although living in a rural area with poor broadband I hope I will be able to experience the console to its fullest – the fact that backwards compatibility will be achieved via streaming might be an issue for those in the same situation. I am also excited for more Vita / PS4 integration so that was great news – I love the way it works at the moment but it is underused.

All in all, I am impressed & wait with trepidation to see when I can get my hands on one and how much I’ll need to pay – the cost of all that RAM does make me worry that the overall package might come with a large price tag but hopefully Sony can keep costs down by bulk buying – fingers crossed! PLAYSTATION 4 LIFE!!!

The biggest thing shown at the PS4 reveal was Gaikai imo I really want to see how it all works out and how it is actual implemented with the PS4 not by talking about it but actually seeing how it works.

Games wise Deep Down was the best thing that was shown but no system seller game has been shown for me at the moment to get a PS4 at launch.

Square-Enix teases us as per usual really gets to me since this could of been that one game where I just had to buy a PS4! Can’t wait for E3 now when they show their games.

I would love to see some of the older franchises like MediEvil, GEX, Legend of Dragoon or Crash Bandicoot revived back on the PS4!

Overall the PS4 reveal was solid but nothing epic for me since the games just didn’t excite me as I thought, I kind of over expected and over hyped things that just never happened and have left watching the live stream with wanting more, hopefully E3 will satisfy my wants for the PS4!

LONG LIVE PLAY!

There’s no doubt for me. One of the features I’m most excited about for the PS4, is its instantaneousness.

I’m usually a pretty patient guy, but I’m currently getting an education in a gymnasium, and that doesn’t always leave me with a lot of spare time on my hands, so sometimes I don’t bother turning on my PS3 and booting up a game, or trying out a demo from the store, if I only have about 30 minutes before I’ve gotta do something else. (Like the ridiculous amount of homework there sometimes is).

But with the PS4 that problem seems to be almost non-existing! I can just turn on the PS4 and immediately pick up right where I left off in a game, or try a demo on the store instead of having to wait for it to download completely.

I think the instantaneousness of the PS4 will greatly help me get in some precious game-time and thus take my mind off things, at least briefly, during those busy days, and I’m very thankful for that. :D

102

I also forgot to add to me post how amazing and comfortable the duallshock 4 looks and the touchpad, move sensor and the headphone jack.

Imo for sony to win nextgen, it needs only 4 things:

– get gta V and battlefield 4 exclusive for ps4, xbox 360 may have them, but not 720. that would be huge for sony ( and very expensive, but i think it would pay off ).
– keep dropping stellar first party games.
– keep psn free, and keep developing ps plus.
– the cheapest version of ps4 shouldn’t be over 400 euros.

Ps: I love the new controller!!

cheers.

It was an absolutely sensational reveal. Of course, it needed to be, in today’s ADHD world, but we have never seen that much gameplay, that many developers and publishers and that many games at a console reveal. Hardware sounds excellent, focus on gaming is exactly what I’m looking for, and developer/publisher support is excellent – as that’s where games come from.

Big fan of more open approach to publishing and video sharing as well. Remote play and social stuff is nice, and streaming will rely on whether we get decent data centre distribution to minimise ping, but there’s so much good that even if all of it doesn’t work out – easily the best console reveal I’ve ever seen. The PS4 is looking awesome – am most definitely day one :D.

To be honest I am not really that impressed at the moment. I was looking forward to watching the presentation on my birthday and the first 10 minutes of the stream worked fine then it started freezing and by 11.40, I gave up watching it.

From what I did watch, the specs and resume play feature looked good.

I live in a rural area with 1.5mbps broadband so I can’t make use of any of the streaming or social features even if I wanted to (which I don’t) and I am also not very happy about the console downloading things that it “thinks” I might be interested in. I like to choose what my console downloads.

The only game I saw on the stream was Knack but I found out about the other ones later. I am not really impressed with any of them and I am far more impressed with Lego City Undercover for the Wii U and a few of the other Wii U exclusives. This will give you a chance at E3 to show off a few more PS4 games and other features of the PS4 which does not require a fast internet speed and change my mind.

Seeing gameplay demos of Knack and Killzone Shadow Fall just blew me away, and the trailer for one of my favorites PS3 game series inFamous return just put the icing on the cake.

The new social and gameplay features are very interesting from the resume and play, being able to broadcast live gameplay, and have friends take over would be a great way to interact with other players.

Overall it seems great.

My only complaint is lack of a start/select button, as there are many games that utilise them for separate purposes.

Also, I’m hoping online is still free.

If it can keep the promise of all ps4 games being remote playable on the vita then its a day 1 purchase for me, love the look of the new dual shock pad as well but it’ll take women getting used to especially with the start and select buttons being combined into 1 button…

I’ve fully braced myself for a lynching here – so don’t worry about hurting my feelings.

I thought the presentation was slick – well delivered (the bits that weren’t stuttering like mad on my live stream anyway) and on the whole, exactly what I expected to see.

Which was the biggest disappointment about the whole show. Everything was pretty much exactly as expected. No wow, no surprise.

Touchpad on the controller was obvious – a direct target of casual, mobile style gamers.

A more streamlined (and no word on pricing) Net gaming service was to be expected given the purchase of Gaikai.

And an aggressive expansion into a “Free-to-play” aspect – and adoption of more ‘micro-payment’ games, was again always on the cards given the attacks on the second hand market and willingness of gamers to pay for DLC.

The lack of footage of a Gran Turismo title – or indeed PolyPhony Digital being on the developer list – was another let down.

I liked what was shown and the features and the games, but every game that was announced as a ps3 and ps4 brought the same doubt, one that I already expressed on other blog entries and that is the possibility of buying the game and not a particular version of it.

I can understand that you don’t make the PS4 compatible with PS3 products, it probably requires a great effort to build an emulator, and that on itself can bring a lot of undesirable problems, at the same time, to have native hardware support, the console price would go up.

But I think it’s not unreasonable to ask that the games that are developed for both consoles to have both versions when they are bought, be it a digital version or a code or something, I think that would help the transition to the new console.

I can only speak for myself, but if I buy Diablo 3 and Destiny for the PS3, if those games bring their PS4 version along, then I already have two games that I can play on the new console, and therefore I’m more lik...

Other than that, every feature on the console seems designed to where we are headed in games and I can’t wait to learn more and see the magic box that makes all that stuff happen.

I want the ps4 to do 6 things,1 backwards compatability I dont like streaming so there was a rumour going around of a ps3 chip that is on a usb stick that could be put in the console via usb stick that chip would need to work with digtal titles as thats what most off my games are in,or build a dulexe ps4 with ps3 parts inside that can play ps3 games, and also I heard a rumour you were using gaikai as a netflix off gaming with the ps1,ps2,ps3 back catalogues on it do that too,do both options.2 make sure the ps4 is quiet like the original ps3,I hate my xbox becuase of the noise it makes.3 put usb ports in the back off the console not just the front.4 let the dualshock 3 work on the ps4.5 keep the xmb(get rid off the lag though)dont copy that god awful xbox dashboard that thing is a nightmare.6 match the xbox on ram(I dont want another skyrim issue).and also make the ps4 case shinny like the original ps3

also partner with sky so I can watch tv on the ps4

I was completely impressed by the PS4. The graphics looked better than the PS3 in my opinion and I like the new ideas. I really like the idea to you let you stream games while downloading them from the PS store since it would’ve great for games like inFamous 2 that takes a long time to download and the idea to let you live stream games is another extremely good idea, but I hope it lets you do the same thing for YouTube videos. I was extremely excited by 2 games, inFamous Second Son and Watch Dogs. inFamous because I’ve been a inFamous fan since inFamous 2 which is in my opinion one of the best PS3 games. Also the story sounds very interesting and I can’t wait to see how Sucker Punch is going to explain how a conduit survived the RFI from inFamous 2. Watch Dogs’ footage looked extremely cool. What did disappoint me a little was I thought that when we seen Media Molecule during the Playstation meeting Iivestream was they were going to announce LBP 3 for the PS4 since that along with ...

I’m really curious about how things like Cross controller and PS Move is going to work on The PS4. I’m happy to see that most PS4 games will be able to remote play with the Vita.

Part 2

Another feature I hope the PS4 has is being able to play PS2 and PS3 games and maybe be able to remote play them with the Vita. Overall I’m very excited about the announcement of the PS4 and some of the games coming to it. Some game series I hope to see on the PS4 are Sly Cooper, Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Little Big Planet, Uncharted and more.

To those people saying the dualshock 4 has no start button get a close up pic of it and check the touchpad out. on the bottom edge of it is written start so it seems its built in somehow.

The things I liked were the social and online aspects. The downloading in the background, playing while downloading and the mode where you can instantly pause the game at a low state were really really cool.

What I didnt like were the games. The 1st party games were all right but none of them (save Infamous:SS) were a must buy for me. Even Infamous was a bit disappointing as I was hoping for the return of Cole. While the games did look good none of them really wowed me or say this is something totally new or cool. Same with the 3rd party devs – yes destiny and diablo were cool but they arent exclusives nor are they games I am interested in so while I am pleased they will be on the ps4 I am personally not invested in them. I dont really think we saw enough of the move to make a judgement and so I am “watching this space” for more.

I am not much into specs but I was reasonably pleased with what I saw. However my biggest worry is how this will affect the price. Sony already know not to overprice so how will they price the console to maximise profit (or minimise loss) but what will this cost? Hopefully $400 or less.

this is the first time i have been tempted for a day one release, normally wait a few months for a bigger games catalogue. but if sony can transfer the at present excellent plus across and cross play with the vita then it is going to be one good year.

The two thing wich impressed me most were systemfeatures like ‘savestate’.
I’d be wanting this since PSPGo. Beeing able to shut down and continue the next day in the middle of a 20 minute Fifa-match, without beeing dependant of save-spot, is gamechanger.
The second thing were systemwide download start of game, and continue download while playing.
I tried this feature on Guild Wars PC, and it were fantastic, if you guys can get this systemwide at launch, the shop will be ten times better than any other online gameshop.

Of the games, Killzone were the best, I love the franchise, and it were great to see this much gameplay. :)

I like the look of the controller and the ability to power down the console then resume play later, that will come in really nicely. but however i do have reservations about the Intrusiveness of the console downloading what it thinks you like. Not only because I have a bad internet connection, but i also like to choose what my console downloads. eg I love playing Fifa so knowing your technologies it will recommend PES, a game that I DO NOT WANT. Regarding the Live streaming I have no intention of using that even if my internet was to be improved unless I can add my previous store purchases. Also I do not like the social features and have no intention of using them either. If you were to put an on/off switch on all the features then I will be more likely to make a purchase.
The Games that have been announced so far, Not really interested in them. but however that could change during E3 upon more games being announced.

My purchase this year will be to who releases first in the UK. I have both consoles currently so if the PS3 is pushed back to 2014 for Europe as rumoured and New Xbox gets a 2013 worldwide release then Xbox will get my money.

They will be a similar in terms of specs so it will then come down to whether I want to spend money to play PS4 exclusives.

It’s the games ultimately that sway whether I will want to buy it or not. The other stuff is a nice to have but not a main driver for me.

I think it was just okay. New controller is very cool, I like Share Button and headset bundled to the PS4.

About games:

I rly liked Deep Down demo, all it’s graphics & special effects looked insane. However I was dissapointed with Killzone 4. It looked good, but BF3 on PC on high settings looks very similar which is bad, because it’s next generation in the end and PC’s games shouldn’t look even in half as good as PS4.

Games’ sequels which I’d like to see:

-Shinobido – It is my favourite ninja game and there was no even a single one on PS3, I loved everything in it: (funny) havoc, making your own garden full of traps to defend your house, climate, missions, opponents.

-Star Gladiators – My fav fighting game on PSX, great gameplay, characters and climate.

-Crash Bandicoot – Best platformer of ALL time. I loved especially Crash Twinsanity, Crash 3 and Crash Bash which was very cool to play with friends/family.

I would switch the focus from the PS4 as “a thing”, rather to how I experienced the event instead.

So what did we see? First off it seemed to me that some SCE officials seemed rather terrified, which I can absolutely understand, considering what is on stake for Sony.

The pad looked good and especially functional. It’s the kind of tool that you want to toy around with, checking out what kind of new gameplay it will allow.
Everything about the Share functionality was no real suprise, since SCE took control of Gaikai. Well that “instant game trial” in the store was kind of new.

Time passed on and it got a little bit disappointing, as we always got just some little introduction with some few basics to each subject. When you already expect functions and receive nothing but the confirmation, without further details, you’ll naturally be annoyed sooner or later.

Then came Knack and you feared that this could be the best view on a PS4 game, that you might get to see this night. So while the...

Then came Knack and you feared that this could be the best view on a PS4 game, that you might get to see this night. So while the game itself seemed decent and Cerny was certainly a great host, it was a step further to disappointement … till Killzone came. Turnaround of the day! Gameplay was sadly a bit too generic.

Despite that you know that gameplay innovations are usually rare for the first generation of games on a new console, you just want to see something “different”. But hey, it certainly looked awesome! Awesome enough to create comments from friends that hesitate about the PS4 to change their mind.

My personal highlight: Drive club. Just the very first 2 seconds and I thought that Sony might have the game that could be my system seller. When they described their plans for the game, it was sealed. :)

All the games that followed made it an amazing experience. I can’t remember if I had ever seen such a great line up of titles for a console. And that 9-10 months before release!

That the console itself was missing, who cares? We learned what is inside, we’ve seen how the games will look like. That’s all that matters.

And all those missing details about futuristic services … well, more time for Sony to figure how they could please us the best. With Plus they earned my trust they are capable of achieving exactly that.

It was a good show loved the new games that were shown but they forgot one thing… Can it play playstation 3 games?! If it can’t then I won’t be getting it

The stream didnt work on the PsBlog and seemed to killhammer my internet on the PS3 as a whole.
But, from what Ive read on the actual blog im interested to see how Diablo 3 compares on the PS3, 4 and PC. I am interested to see if it plays like two different games, where features or graphics are toned down on 3, or if its the same game on 3 and 4 if the prices will be the same, or perhaps cross console gaming

Dont think it was shown during the Event, but the Witcher 3 sounds pretty cool, will be interesting to see if we get the trilogy (like Mass Effect 3 which was also initially a 360 exclusive)

controller…could go either way, Id need to feel the weight of it, and see if its a necessity or if the DS 3 also works. Not amused by the fact that Sixaxis is staying, but it will be interesting to see how the camera actually works, and if it gives any sort of benefit if used (unlike Sixaxis which is always shoehorned into exclusives, badly).

horrible! what do we need a touch pad for! i almost cryed thinking my gaming life was over! there are buttons on a remote for a reason!
there was no info about trophys, compatibility, the cosole itself!
im only just about to get a platiunm trophy on PS3 and you might be telling me i waisted my time! and the remote YUCK! what the #@?! did you do to it !? i love the ps3 remote its the most conforable yet and your releasing this trash! i feel sad about getiing one now!

Very impressive show.
Please make sure that Ps vita is a big part of the PS4 and many of us Ps vita users will be very happy.
I’m very glad that I already have 50% of the Ps4 already.
THANK YOU PlayStation!

ps4 amazing graphics nice controller good idea about downloads be abe to play straight away basically streaming, sony always try to embrace the latest technology and are pretty good doing so.

bad points what i understand is that your purchased psn content on ps3 will not be compatible and can not be transferd,

does this mean there will be a different psn store for ps4 only not sure if that would work, no offence to the store guys but sometimes they have a problem keeping up with the ps3 store, running 2 stores might be a bit to much,

think i will wait and see what happens for about a year thats one person less complaing about something to do with it and how it didnt meet there expectations there always is, lets see 12 months from now you will gwt people saying i bought this day one and i wish i haddnt untill they ironed out the bugs.

129

i gonna be disappointed if there is no optical drive i hope they not gonna kill concept & soul of Playstation and hope console better then XBOX 720

Im sure they only take positive posters opinions and give them the codes irrigardless of how decent their statements are.
But you asked for reservations? PSEE as a whole.
Robot replying monkies on emails
Phone staff that are useless
Bad blog staff
Bad Store Staff
Seeing how great SCEA is (thanks for our £10 store code btw o_o…)
Even if I was to consider getting a PS4 day one (consoles always drop in price, have months of bad or mediocre games and usually get a slimmer, faster, better model) SCEE has ruined any potential a PS4 would have, the service is part of the package, and the service has been awful for the last few years x_X.

Simply amazing console!

I really liked that Sony now have made a console which is a lot easier to develop for, make games that look better from the get go. And that controller! Wow, I like it. Especially those grip handles inspired by the Xbox 360 controller. And ofcause also the fact that the controller is a little bit wider and has better triggers. 6x faster Blu-Ray drive, nice. :-)

There’s only one thing that I didn’t like, or need to hear more about. And thats the back compatibility. I have so many games on discs, and about 90 games on the HDD alone, and all those games won’t work on the PS4… I really hope that Sony comes up with a plan here.

I will pre-order today and get the PS4 on launch day, just like the PS3, just like the PS2, and almost like the PS1 :-D

I don`t get why EVERYONE is on the backwards compatibility bandwagon (both here and on the Facebook page dated FEB.22nd @9.31pm) when the PS3 will still be available to play online, alongside the PS4?

Doesn`t everyone here still have a PS1, PS2 and play them when they`re feeling sentimental? I know I do! So WHY the hell would I want OLD PS1,PS2, and PS3 games on my next-gen PS4?

I really HOPE that come release day, you will have MORE games for us to play. Games are what makes the machine and if you DON`T have variety on day one, you`ll lose out!

Also, cross-game chatter?

Oh… and will you still allow us the option to swap hard drives as well? I say this cause I am STILL playing with my original 6-year old PS3 with a 2TB hard drive installed, which I must say makes the machine outstanding.

So… release date? I take it we will be able to purchase PS4 around March next year?

I`m excited and despite the lack of actual console, which I think is a brave move because at the end of the d...

Oh… any chance of getting those videos on the PSN Store?

@129 – alisaleem86,

I initially thought that the lack of mention about physical media, i.e an optical drive, was worrying too.

However I found this link upon searching about it – which (subject to change) says there will be a Blu-Ray drive included on the machine.

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/130221a_e.pdf

I won’t bother with the pros as we are all aware of what they are!

The major con for me is that previous purchased PSN titles won’t be compatible. I have spent a vast amount of money on the store & I can’t transfer the titles onto the PS4?? For me that’s a fail & I won’t purchase one for a very long time. I’ll stick with my PS3 for at least another 2-3 years!

To anyone that wants to comment on this, note I have stated that for me it’s a fail & the reason, I won’t buy one. If you want to buy one then that’s fine but SONY have missed the mark for me, on something that should have been a certainty from the very start of development.

Hopefully after 2 years of waiting some functionality will exist. I don’t want to live stream either, I want the games available that I purchased.

Kind Regards

Hi there everyone ..
What can I say my fella gamers,we just moved forward. Not big ,a huge leap!
I watched the event live ,just watched it for a third time with my girlfriend / wanted to show her KNACK :) /
Guys the show was epic! Loved every aspect of it .You nailed it honestly .
The GAIKAI tech PS4 is going to use is the future not only of gaming but technology as a whole .
I own a VITA as well and the news for the device are also great .You are looking proudly to the future.
What can I say about games,as a FPS guy ,Shadow Fall was the cherry of the cake that eve,at least for me .
However games like Deep Down and the new FF ,aw man! Just guys be sure to update us often on the system and its games development.
I have PS1,PS2 at that very moment I am playing on my PS3 ,double Black Ops II XP weekend :)
I am looking forward for that Simple, Immediate, Social, Integrated, and Personalized device called PS4 .
Christmas just cant be soon enough.

Regards
Chris

Everything was pretty much as I expected. The PS4 looks to have taken a natural evolution rather than a technological leap. This as a good thing and it should limit costs ergo; cheaper for the consumer. Not only that, it gives the gamer a smoother transition and the new features are acceptable rather than a shock. For me this is more of a PS3.5 than a new console.

I like the new controller and as a move user I’m very interested to see where that direction is going. The camera was the hindrance for the move and the new eyebar™ has addressed that. Sadly the new eyebar™ now limits it for Augmented Reality style games like the awesome eye of judgement. Technically the eyebar™ looks very capable, now I wonder…. Is it going to be bundled ?

My only negative is the lack of 4k or any mention of it. 4k would make it a next gen console. The latest playstation has always been the deciding push for me to upgrade (CD, DVD, Blu Ray) but now I have no incentive to go 4k.

As others have said there are a lot of unanswered questions and I sit with bated breath, my appetite whet with anticipation.

Hmm, my ‘thoughts’ on the PS4… I WANT IT NOW!!! :P :P :P (sorry for shouting there) :D

+ I loved the KZ PS4 bit(the beginning looked like i was watching a Star Wars film) :P + Mainly the PS4 features sounded BRILLIANT & i really want to know more about them ASAP PLEASE(don’t think i can wait until E3, but i guess SONY are wise to keep something back because you know Microsoft will steal their ideas like they always do) :D

As a Gamer I have to say I tuned out feeling genuinely underwhelmed.

There was a lot of talk of positivity amongst developers which I liked, but towards the end I wasn’t interested in hearing how exciting and great it was that playstation came to them, I wanted to see more of what they were doing with the toolset they had helped develop, rather than the possibilities…. as we all know possibilities are endless, capability is the issue.

Tech wise it sounds like it will have the power under the hood to deliver some truelly fantastic next gen visuals, which the game trailers did show – if these were indeed not just tech demos ;) – at the moment I am hoping the PS4 brings Current High End PC Visuals to the console market.

I will not comment on the social side as it does not interest me at all, but if it is what the majority of gamers want, why shouldn’t sony build it into the core of their nextgen console.

Like many I would have liked to see the console and the lack of backwards compatability (again) concerns me, I was happy to hear some vita love (though brief) but at the end of the day it will be the games that secure a purchase from me, games are what make a console.

If i remember correctly, there was nothing said about the touch pad on the controller. Hopefully it wont be like sixaxis, you have to keep it in, no-one uses it and it adds cost in manufacturing and for the consumers.
That second chip sounds promising. now hopefully there will be no lag when bringing up the menu while ingame or waiting for a trophy to pop. ANY MAYBE WE CAN DOWNLOAD A GAME WHILE PLAYING ANOTHER!! – cant remember if this was confirmed.

The face animation looked incredible but the question is, will it be that good when there are other graphics being processed in the background, compared to a blank screen?

@ Leewom69
I think the problem is that most the developers didnt have anything ready to show.
If they are working on games, most are probably still making the game engines, or the games are not good enough yet to show off.

would have been awesome to see GTA V running on the PS4.

i was pretty satisfied with it i think the new features look really awesome and very unique i was pretty shocked when they announced some of them like the new live stream (cant wait for it). i think sony have announcement a normal amount of info about the ps4 , here you have people moaning about no seeing the console and they hardly said anything but you have to think about the rivals (xbox) , if you announcement to much too early they can just wiz through their console get all the nice features announcement what the console looks like in a blink of an eye and there ps4 is a gonna , if ps4 leave a bit of information hanging it’ll keep the fans eagerly waiting to see what it is and while xbox announce their console and all the features with it ps4 can just announce all the other pieces of it straight after which’ll hopefully out to the xbox so it’ll hopefully override with ps4 fans cause they’ve been waiting for it for a while and will gladly buy it while the xbox has just rushed a...

I have to admit I’m more excited of incoming PS+ content! DOA5, wow, I was going to buy it next week. And so many other great games I haven’t finished. Next generation of gaming looks great, but let’s be honest – things are pretty neat for us gamers already with PS3, is new console really necessary? :D

I was thrilled with the PlayStation 4 reveal. The games, the features, the DualShock 4, Gaikai – this event was a stellar. I’m dying of waiting to get this beast machine.
The features are FANTASTIC. Downloading while the system is not operating,Suspend & Resume, and the the fact that we will be able to play any game instantly and download only a small fraction is mind blowing. But the most awesome feature was the ability to assets our friends and take the controller virtually, I was like, are you kidding me! That part was insane.
As for games I’ve gone crazy after seeing Killzone. I literally opened my mouth the second I saw the “R3 Melee” haha :D. And Knack was brilliant, brought back old memories of great platform games. My body is ready.

But I was frustrated because the absence of ND, PD and The Last Guardian, Agent. We don’t know if these games are PS4 titles or not but I’d love some details on them both. But Sony have to save some for E3.

Thank you Sony for choosing holiday 2013. I’m graduating from university on the December/January so things is just getting better and better. I love you guys :D

Generally enjoyed the show, couple of boring bits in it (and embarrassing…the Square Enix part made me cringe…trolling us with an E3 announcement…), but all in all very good.

What I found to be the best parts of the PS4 would be the 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, really looking forward to how the devs play with that! The streaming of play like ustream…love watching streams and up for giving streaming a go myself. And lastly the background processing, standby charging of console and updating…that is cool stuff.

I was very disappointed about backwards compatibility. I understand about the CELL stuff but what about PS1 and PS2? Really wish you could find a way to emulate the PS3 titles.

Can’t really comment on the DualShock 4 until I actually have it in my hands, part of me says it looks good, other part is mmm about the touchpad.

As for the games shown, eh, no wow factor yet. Waiting for E3 I guess.

All in all was good but still a lot of questions unanswered :(

Being an oldskool, or just old, gamer all of the social stuff dosent interest me i just like to play the games. Which it must be said surpassed my expectations, especially especially that deep down demo! am excited for E3 to see what else is coming, really hoping for a better final fantasy next gen!

Based on the games so far i will probably be buying on launch as i always do, but the lack of BC my force me to wait purley because if i am playing some of the ps3 games out around that time i will wait till i have finished them before buying the ps4.

Also the remote play is actually fully utilised in most games (inc third party) and not as laggy as the awful wiiu version if i sit more then 2 meters away from the console i will also buy a vita to go with my ps4. Though if your making a 4g vita announce it before ps4 launches!

As for streaming of old games, i have loads of games from every ps gen and i can emulate all bar the ps3 ones on my laptop, my point being the price to play stuff i...

Ok, loved it all…

But there is one small thing that stood out and got me really excited. yeah the games looked epic, Watch Dogs and InFamous blew me away, but it was a few second video which show the million pieces demo. Where the blue ceiling fell down onto the village scape. Seriously that got me really excited…

What happens to all the stuff from my psplus subscription. Without backwards compatibility its a fail. That’s my thoughts. Between plus and the fact that nothing will work next gen why would I buy anything more for ps3?

What I’m hopeful about is not PS4’s power, it’s its ease of use for developers. If they can create games as easily as they want, overall game quality will increase substantially. Right now on all consoles developers need to jump through hoops and loops to create a functional game. If Sony have really solved that, I’m really hopeful about the future of gaming.

For me the playstation 4 event was superb! without even showing the console they made viewers ask for more! my thoughts on the event-

i really liked david cage presentation. the old man’s face was very lifelike.
Media molecules presentation was amazing as well. their presentation showed the ps move’s uses in a whole new way.
i liked the idea of sking help from friends when we are stuck in some part of the game or assisting them. it was a pretty neat feature.
i also liked the idea of playing a game while it is downloading.
The feature i am really very interested in is the remote play feature. i am a vita owner planning to get the ps4 and i am really very excited for that feature.

among the games, i liked killzone shadow fall, infamous second son and drive club. i loved the part in the teaser where the soldier kills another soldier and turns into a helghast. it was amazing. i also liked the detailed environment of drive club. i am really looking forward to more announcements from th...

The presentation was interesting… not mind blowing.

Im not sold on the new controller really… how and what will it do on motion?

Also, what about the people heavily invested in PS3?

No passing over of games on PSN PLUS? PS3 Owned games?

I´ve have a PS3 since launch (€599), the first one YLD on me and I paid the difference (another 129€) to have it replaced for a Slim version a week after the warranty expired.

4 Dual Shocks / 5 move controllers and over 45games DVD on PS3.

Unless there is a really nice offer for moving all that over, the PS3 will remain my console for at least those 10 years support is maintained.

Giving this topic more thought, and have concluded No, i am not getting one, not till ps3s Games become hard to get which imo is a good two, even three years away.. sure the graphics and ps4 only games are gonna be missed by me. but nah, i would have to compare getting a ps4 now (release) as moving from a fully renovated, expensive house into a newer emptier and ‘cheaper’ one.. cheaper in sense of net worth, not actual cost.. as for having both, ie ps3+4 sitting together by tv. lol it just wouldn’t work, either in appearance, ying and yen (is it), or whatever the word, basically they would not compliment each other, say like a BD player and Cable box Do look ok in many peoples, well basically focal points of their homes, ?. mine certainly is.. After watching the show I’ve been left excited about the release but also with a few concerns.

I think the controller looks excellent, the fact they have still kept it as a gaming controller and not some sort of gimic is a great idea as the PS4 to me should still be a gaming machine foremost before anything else.

Backward compatability for any console is a must, and if you own the original games you should not have to pay again to access them. So I think the whole cloud issue ect needs some clarity.

As for the social aspect, I understand they are trying to make gaming more of a social thing, but to me I like to get immersed in the game as a way to escape reality. So my main concern is that it may end up turning the console into some sort of extension of facebook.

Onto the games now, the new Killzone did look impressive, especially with all the civilians running about. Unfortunatly i do have doubts about driver club, first impressions would be it focuses too much on the social side ...

Will be very interesting to see what other developements are announced.

It was interesting but does raise a number of issues and questions.

As someone who writes about games and regularly uploads footage of gameplay I found the social/sharing side of the console fascinating. I agree with Sony when they say social gaming is going to be immensely important in years to come and will be a feature people embrace. The store I work in gets a number of people coming in for devices to record and upload their game footage so there is a market there.

While power is important we are moving towards an age where imagination and game direction will be key. What I love about the Playstation is it seems to allow for the more imaginative titles and I don’t think you’d get titles like LittleBigPlanet or Journey anywhere else. I think seeing Sony support titles like The Witness and Knack is brave.

The other games shown didn’t quite wow me as I would have like but it is still early days, I’ve never been a Killzone fan and the other titles shown save a few just didn’t excite...

I have to touch on the Backwards Compatibility/Used Games issue, the lack of BC does disappoint me, it would be nice to see some kind of transfer for digital.

Sorry. I’m not gonna go with the usual Sony fanboy stuff here, but I’m not gonna win anyway ;-).
The ps4 hype wagon is well and truly rolling. The press conference has definitely sparked my interest, but it’s probably raised more concerns for me. No backward compatibility? four years worth of games on my shelves, not to mention my download list. Plenty of trophies still to earn. In addition remote play is causing me a severe case of deja vu. I seem to remember seeing a running demo of killzone over remote play during another press conference about two years ago, at the announcement of the vita.
Hopefully Sony will keep up with the development this time. Remote play, crossed with backward compatible game playing would be the thing that would make me start saving up now. After all, that’s why I bought the vita (still slightly bitter).
I thought by now I’d be playing skyrim on the handheld, while the missus was watching her period drama rubbish on the telly.

I also been recalling the part of the reveal where they mentioned about if you get stuck on a boss/level, you can send SOS out to, well anyone i think, which if so isn’t too bad, but still most of us wouldn’t ask ‘anyone’. we would want a mate or at least someone on friends list.. which brings me to my (usual) point, they never mentioned that this ‘helper’ would need to also own a copy of whatever game it may be, so . . does this mean what it actually said, or is it a early glimpse of same old business as usual. Or did they mention it had to be someone who had the game as well. whatever, i hope it is Not required, ie maybe you beat it and traded/sold it, will you Still be able to respond to a help me plea ?.. another good (read devious) way of selling a few more copies of or getting people to keep or buy games digital, Not in itself the biggest blag, But added to recent history, ie RP on vita (lol) and other little. schemes i guess, well i think ‘some’ will both see And feel where i...

The fact the current PSN purchases won’t carry over is a HUGE disappointment. That’s all…

Everything was simply amazing I’m pre ordering the hell out of the PS4, I loved that you will be able to stream and upload gameplay I always wanted to do that but had no money to buy a capture card, the controller looked great, and Finally we will be able to stream the ps4 games on the vita :D When I saw that I just fell in love with my vita even more :D

158

I’m massively excited about the live streaming and ability to watch your friends live streams. Ive wanted it more than anything after experiencing it with OnLive. I don’t think many people can comprehend just how much fun it’s going to be.
Also with that the save screenshot and video is a massive feature. I’ve been using capture cards for years and it’s such a mess having to hook the laptop up and play the game in sub HD. Finally being able to save something funny, or incredible or interesting without the need for extra equipment is awesome.

My only reservation is the date of the eu launch. If its not until next march then I think that’s a big mistake handing the next box a clean run through Christmas and most games are going to pick that up rather than wait an extra 4-5 months for essentially the same games and a few exclusive that by then will feel outdated.

I look forward to seeing some RPG Magic from this machine.

It seems like a lot of people are concerned about there existing accounts being lost during the switchover, but it looks like your focusing a lot on social networking, so I’m sure our hard work will have a place on one the new system somewhere…. ?

I’m thinking some sort of “Timeline”… “SONY STORY” “Playstation Journey” “BackStory”… you get the idea

Two things about Sony’s presentation stuck out for me personally:

The first thing was that, despite the PS4 being a good 9 or 10 months away, the console is already promising a healthy mix of tried and tested IP’s and brand new experiences. Killzone, inFAMOUS and Diablo III all look excellent, but there are also a lot of titles that will maybe push me out of my comfort zone a little bit and both push the hardware and innovate in terms if gameplay in different ways; games like Knack and DriveClub, as well as third party offerings like The Witness, Watch_Dogs and Destiny. It’s something that has always impressed me about Sony and continues to do so with PS4: Sony has this amazing and exhaustive portfolio of great franchises, and yet they never rest on their laurels and rely solely on those. They’re constantly using their first party studios to push out brand new IP’s and this looks set to continue with PS4.

The second thing that stuck out to me as extremely cool was Remote Play. The promise of being able to play pretty much every PS4 game on my Vita if the missus is watching Air Crash Investigation or Teen Mom is just too amazing for words.

While there are still many questions to be answered that will either make me buy the PS4 or not, I’m not really phased about all that; there is plenty of time until the console comes out.

The conference was, in my opinion, spot on. Those where 2 hours well spent :)
In terms of hardware, I am a firm believer that it is nothing without good software (I’m looking at my Vita right now), so I didn’t get much excited about the specs. What did get me excited was the fact Sony asked developers what they would like to see. This is big. Asking developers for input on your future platform has got to be the best thing Sony did in the last couple of years. Oh, and PS+ too, that service is just too good to be true :)

In terms of games, I loved the whole Watch Dogs demo (GTA what?). I also enjoyed the presentation on Drive Club. I’ve always been more of a Burnout/arcade racing kind of guy, but the idea of being in a club and racing as team like that actually made me smile: me and my friends can fo...

Then there is the new Killzone. More than the new graphics, which looked fab, the fact they used the Share button made a world of difference for me. We had that nice guy at the beginning talk about all that, but it was with Killzone that I really got into it: I was watching the conference live and commenting with friends on Facebook, when the video came up on my feed. Fantastic!

On a duller note, Square-Enix should have just stayed at home. I mean, every gamer worth it’s salt had already watched that video months ago (that exact same video!). Also, as much as Capcom’s Deep Down looked awesome (and it really did), the fact they had that selection wheel on something that did not seem like a gameplay video didn’t sit right with me. But it still looked lovely.

As much of a PlayStation loyalist that I am, the controller was and continues to be one of the most important traits of Sony’s console throughout the years, and one that hasn’t yet been bested. I played on all rival consoles, sure, but their controllers never felt as good as the DualShock (or even the rumble-less original) and that really counts for me. I mean, I will spend countless hours holding that thing, so…

All in all, I think Sony did a good job. I just hope that, come E3, they can deliver the answers to much of those unanswered questions everyone has; it would be a shame if they just re-hashed the same info while showing how the PS4 actually looks ;) (3/3)

The most important thing is:

Focus on the gameplay not on the graphics. That’s why I loved my PS2 more than PS3.

Games are supposed to be entertaining not realistic. Remember that.

This is the system I have been waiting for!!!! I LOVE the control and my mind can not even begin to imagine the graphics 4 years or so from now! I was dissapointed however by the lack of answers to questions i asked like What will happen to home? This cloud thing does it work for psn games or disc? But Im still buying day one!!! I bough a piggy bank two days ago he already has £5 in him :'( It will be worth the shiney beast…. I said to myself as i SMASHED the last one :'( Now only guilt roams me as i play my vita :'( R.I.P Vita piggy! 2011-2012 same to you future ps4 piggy :(

I was really impressed with the show. I hope the specs given were final and an impressive CPU/GPU announcement will soon follow.
However, I’m a bit concerned because I don’t remember anything being said about an optical drive! I don’t mind downloading digital games but I certainly prefer an optical format, reason is that no matter how much capacity you’ve got on a hard drive, you will eventually run out of space someday.
I was overwhelmed by Drive Club, it is a petrol head’s wet dream! Can’t wait to put my hands on it! I really liked everything else as well, the weak link – in my view – was The Witness. I really loved Braid, it was a piece of art from graphics to music and game play, but I’m not sure the Witness is a decent successor though. We shall see.
All other functionality such as Gaikai (a jaw dropping K.A. feature),Suspend Mode and Dual Shock 4’s Share button are welcome additions to an already attractive package, this is going to be one awesome piece of technology fully load...

All other functionality such as Gaikai (a jaw dropping K.A. feature),Suspend Mode and Dual Shock 4’s Share button are welcome additions to an already attractive package, this is going to be one awesome piece of technology fully loaded with features!
I also look forward to the more commitment Sony promised for PS Vita as it is a great system but it’s lacking the required support from both 1st and 3rd party developers.

I liked the show enough to pre order my console, as a playstation plus member I was wondering how my purchases would be honored I guess vita purchases would still be usable , also will home still be the same or is a new home in development . I must admit I’ve always felt Xbox live worked better although I’ve not turned my on in months. I’m hoping ps4 can change that it seems Sony has learned some valuable lessons this generation, heres to the next one.:)

P.s. please please release it in Britain at the same time as the us , it’s just torture when we have to wait. And if microsoft are able to do a world wide release of their console with comparable specs as ps4 then all your hard work will be wasted.

Well, as you might have seen me write before, the Dualshock4 is a big disappointment. Not in its own right, just when compared to the ever amazing Dualshock3, or the traditional design in general.
The ever growing emphasis on the social aspect is unnecessary for me too. The overall look and feel of the UI was a downer too, as it reminded a lot of the current store design (which I don’t like either) and I love the designful simplicity of the XMB (both visually and practically – same goes for the old Store for that matter.) Not a techhead so the specs and everything don’t mean much to me, but the actual games obviously looked gorgeous. Killzone 4 was the big hitter for me (it’s always this or MGS for me:p), but the others looked amazing too.

I enjoyed the presentation and liked the sound of what the ps4 had to offer so far.

I thought knack offered Pixar like graphics and infamous second son has me well excited as infamous is my fav game this gen.
The social stuff seems quite good as it offered more than just comparing trophys with another member you could see how the accomplished a specific task in game for that difficult trophy ect which will be good.

The only worry I have is how many of the new features will incur a subscription fee, I don’t want to be playing a plus subscription as well as another ps4 subscription of say £5 pm to get online and using all of the ps4’s features.

I’ll be keeping my ps3 no matter what and the price of the ps4 will determine if I’m an early adopter again or not, at this point I’m unsure as I was an early adopter of ps3 and vita and it never took long for great deals to come along on those after launch that would have given me much better bang for my buck.

One other thought that isn’t really positive or negative is the sort of removal of anonymity. I’m curious as to how that’s going to work.

If the system truly pulls back that curtain then will we see (or hear) far less abusive/racist/sexist etc idiots? Not that it’s a huge problem on ps3 like it is in XBL. But anything that stops gamers and makes them think before they open their mouths has to be a good thing.

I also wonder if cheaters/boosters online can be exposed with the video share feature? Could that too be a feature that helps stop these things? Will players boost if they know that anyone can expose them, no longer a minority who might have a capture card.

The feature that is most exciting has to be Gaikai integration.
I’d love to play my already bought digital ps3 games(hopefully no re-buy!), through gaikai on vita. That is not the most exciting part though!

I can see somewhere down the line of the ps4 cycle, gaikai being used as means to enhance the game without upgrading hardware. Imagine a game with regular ps4 graphincs, but when you go online gaikai could work in tandem with the console, increasing its computational power.

Maybe it’s not going to happen, but i can easily imagine games with enhanced graphics/draw distance/ physics objects and effects when you play online, just how now being online enhances your gameplay (aka messages in dark souls or leaderboards).

It can be done! I believe that the Playstation team will make this technology a winner, and the key to being the best next gen console around!

Sony has done a really good job with the initial reveal of PS4. And that, no doubt, is because they focussed to the people who matter the most – Gamers. While the PS4 is shaping up to be another perfect all-rounder, its forte lies in its games. And I am glad those are shown on the forefront.
The conference had something for everybody, from impressive hardware specs (highlight of which was the stupendously powerful and speedy GDDR5 RAM and that too 8GB), to very impressive first-party games like KZ:ShadowFall , DriveClub etc. containing an exciting mix of new and existing IPs, to attracting indie developers via self-publishing and showing the beautiful and thought-provoking “The Witness” ,to a truly impressive third-party showing, highlight of which was Destiny and Diablo 3 and last but not the least, securing exclusive content for PS Platforms for Bungie’s Destiny , a move that will surely attract more customers to PS Ecosystem.
