Soul Sacrifice’s EU reversible box art revealed

Soul Sacrifice_3D_No Rating

The time has finally come to reveal the EU box art for Soul Sacrifice!

I’ve been working closely with the studio team to produce a piece of artwork that demonstrates the element of sacrifice in a clear and sophisticated way. I hope you’ll agree that what they’ve produced is an iconic image that looks really smart. A special thanks to all the team for their hard work on this.

But that’s not all – for those of you that are fans of the original Japanese artwork, I’ve been thinking of you too! On the reverse side of the sleeve, you’ll find the original Japanese artwork, giving you the option to flip the sleeve over and showcase that instead.

You should start to see the new pack in retailers and on websites across Europe from today. Don’t forget, you can get some great exclusive in-game content when you pre-order the game – so check participating retailers for details:

  • Two unique costumes with which players can customize their character
  • Three magic items to aid players in battle:
    • Spirits’ Flamepike – Shards of the spear provided by Fire spirits, unleashing a five hit combo attack with heat effects
    • Spirits’ Blightstone – Explosive stones with poison effects provided by the spirits
    • Spirits’ Fulgurwood – Root provided by the Thunder spirits. Tracks enemies on the ground and attacks with thunder spell

I know a lot of you are eagerly anticipating an update on what’s happening with the EU demo, and while I can’t confirm when this will be available just yet, I can confirm that there will, indeed, be an EU demo before the game hits shelves in May. Stay tuned to the PS Blog for more details in the next few weeks.

Soul Sacrifice for PS Vita launches in stores and via PlayStation Network across Europe from 1st May 2013.

Both the covers are great in their own way. Thanks for giving us the option to choose :)

I am really looking forward to this game. It looks and sounds amazingly good.

I can’t wait to get the game card in the mail.

The best Box art of the three.
Day 1 for me.

So the Pre-order item is part of every game Pre order or is it only certain retailer?

BTW for ppl asking yes this game will have a online pass (check Hong PSN, if you don’t believe me)

Hexahedronaut 08 March, 2013 @ 13:20

I wish more devs did this, I love the original Japanese cover.

Gamesgbkiller 08 March, 2013 @ 13:21

Looks great.
I hope the demo comes next week :)
Can’t wait.

It is usually only participating retailers, but I obviously can’t say for sure in this case.

I hope participates as I usually get all my retail games from them these days. Pretty much no danish retailer can match their prices, even when you add VAT. They deliver pretty quick to Denmark these days and usually you get the option for free shipping. There’s not much Danish retailers can do to compete with them, unless they drastically lower their prices.

This is great news, thanks very much Sony! Never expected there to be a demo or any nice little extras for SS.

looks good one of the few highly anticipated games for the Vita along with Ragnarok Odyssey and AC Liberation both bombed at the reviews and gameplay though lets see how this fares out. Its prob the last lifeline for the Vita for a long period havent seen anything huge being announced for it for a while. Dragons Crown is prob the only one and havent heard about that long

I’m not sure if you’ve seen this already, but Soul Sacrifice received a 37/40 from Japanese magazine, Famitsu. They loved it!

So, I heard this could be described as Vita’s Dark Souls. Would you see that description as anything accurate? This game looks very promising indeed. However, I probably will prefer the digital release, so choice of cover-art doesn’t really matter that much to me. If I had to choose, I’d choose the black (Western) one over the blue (Japanese) one. The blue one is very (VERY) colorful..

Apart from being “dark fantasy” there isn’t much similarity between Soul Sacrifice and Dark Souls. Soul Sacrifice seems more in line with Monster Hunter, God Eater and similar hunting/monster arena games.

People should not expect this to be anything like Demon’s Souls or Dark Souls. If people buy this expecting Dark Souls they will end up disappointed simply because it isn’t the same style of gameplay. Soul Sacrifice is much faster and focuses less on exploration.

Cool box Art:P

Finally, a another Vita game that gets a retail release. I can’t say why EDF and Ragnarok only got a digital release. This is why I love retail better. Nice boxart, cheap prices and less space on the Memory Stick since the Cart has game data on it. = )

where can i preorder this in Australia??

I’m not normally one for basing opinions on a demo, or even for trying demos out in general, but I feel as though I need to try before I buy on this occasion.

Might not be my cup of tea after all. :/

Wait a minute. Japanese voice over isn’t mentioned on this list. Do we get that as pre-order bonus just like US SS or is it exclusive to US only? If so i’ll be disappointed.

Yes, that’s a pre-order extra for EU too – if you peer at the image at the bottom you should see it mentioned.

DiscworldDeath 08 March, 2013 @ 15:10

How can I know who are “participating retailers” for the pre-order version? Will Shopto for instance have the goodies?

Download size is probably gonna be too big for me to pre-order via the PSN store.

i like above cover

fred digital version cheaper + got also extra stuf ?

This is a game I’d rather have digital so it’s not tied to having the game card inside, but I also want the preorder bonuses.
Will there be PSN preorders? Will those also be eligible for the extra stuff?

Hey RautenPS – I’m afraid I can’t confirm the plans for PSN just yet. But rest assured that as soon as I have more info, I’ll be sure to update everyone here right away :)

flashmozzg_vt 08 March, 2013 @ 16:12

Finally some news! Please confirm that this bonuses will be also available for day-one PSN-buyers (like you did with Gravity Rush)! Or atleast make a pre-order option for this game, like you do for PS3 games!

I prefer the JAP cover, to be honest.

Why isn’t that being used as the default European cover as well? Too many colors? ;)

Now you get the best of BOTH worlds. The cool EU art AND the Japanese art on the back :D

Is there going to be a digital version and will the preorder items be available for the digital version also

There will definitely be a digital version at launch. I’m working on getting everyone an update on preorder incentives on PSN as soon as possible.

Keep an eye on the blog for future updates.

The reversible cover is just the sort of attention to detail I like to see. The game is getting plenty of positive vibes now, I just hope Sony manage to do some good PR with this, it’s one of the things they seem to have been a bit lax with on the Vita.

It’s like with Need For Speed. Yes. it’s an EA game, but it was mighty impressive on Vita and should have been given more support.

It’s interesting to see how covers are different between Europe, USA and Japan. Are there many restrictions set by the publisher/marketing dept as to what will likely sell within a given territory? I mean, sparse colors(or b&w) and mid-placed solitary hero seems to be the norm the last couple of years…

As many others I was kinda dissapointed in the Bioshock Infinite cover, but after having read Ken Levine’s reason for it being so bland, it made perfect sense:

Thank you!! That cover looks really good. I like the simpler look. Can’t wait to dive into an English demo!

Artemisthemp 08 March, 2013 @ 18:37

@cowbanana have the Pre-order bonus and they is about/cheaper than Amazon + deliver on release date/before release date

I can’t wait for this game.It looks amazing,i will preorder it for sure.
I hope that the online multiplayer wont have lags though.

Grimm-Preacher 09 March, 2013 @ 21:21

Any chance EU is getting the red PlayStation Vita Soul Sacrifice Limited Edition console bundle?

I don’t see the point of showing us the bonuses and saying “so check participating retailers for details” without giving us the list of retailers participating in this…

CloudBelmont 12 March, 2013 @ 18:10

Can’t wait.

This is my most highly anticipated Vital game. I’m really looking forward to it’s release. Thanks for the update.

Shame, I love the box art, but I prioritise digital over retail. Can I preorder on PSN? Or do I HAVE to buy retail?

still no news on the demo :-(
