Announcing Metrico, a new PS Vita exclusive via Pub Fund

Dear readers, we are Roy, Geert and Thijmen, soon to be known as Digital Dreams. As you’ve probably never heard of us, a short introduction might be in order. We’re from the Netherlands and we share a building with other game developers like Ronimo (Awesomenauts) and Vlambeer (Super Crate Box).

We have a short history in AAA development but quickly found out that we wanted to start our own company and work on our own projects. As a small indie company we strive to create elegant and meaningful experiences in the form of downloadable console games. With that said, we are very proud and super excited to finally announce Metrico, a unique PS Vita exclusive!

Metrico
Metrico centers around infographics, as you might have noticed from the teaser above. It’s an atmospheric puzzle action game that strives to create a unique mindset of its own. The idea has been in our heads for a few years, and was born out of noticing how beautiful infographics can look as an art form.

It was reinforced by seeing that infographics have become increasingly important in contemporary pop-culture. While they haven’t made their way to videogames yet, we think it’s a place where they can work exceptionally well. This is not just because of their pretty aesthetics as much as it is about actively changing data and how that can be visualized.

Development
Metrico has been in development for a while; we created several unreleased prototypes for ourselves to flesh out the design. Our last prototype won the Indiepub propeller Award in 2012 in the category of “Best Design”, after which we got into contact with Sony to develop the full game for PS Vita through the help of the Pub Fund program – and we are thrilled with the opportunity to do so! Especially because the gameplay mechanics of Metrico work particularly well in combination with the unique hardware features the PS Vita has to offer.

Stay stuned for screenshots, gameplay and other announcements surrounding Metrico. You can also find us on Twitter @DigitalDreams and keep up with us via Facebook. In the meanwhile we are working as hard as we can to make it as awesome as possible! Let us know what you think!

That Youtube video gave me zero idea what the game is like, nor did the post.

Looks interesting! Great to see more indie games coming to the Vita. Any more info on the gameplay would be appreciated, as well as a release window. If I may ask, what specific Vita features lured you in?

Atleast show us a a photo of the game :/. This post didn’t give me more knowledge about the game.

I really enjoy infographics, so I share your enthusiasm for them as an art form, but I do think I get most of my enjoyment from the fact that they’re presenting educational material in such an effective and concise way. Will Metrico use any real facts and figures in the game?

I’ll be keeping my eye on this one! :)

So, if I understand correctly, this game is a platformer in which the stages are grapchics like one you can make in Excel?

Probably the most strange idea I’ve seen… But in the good sense! Looks really interesting, and the potential use of all the Vita features (touch screen, rear touch screen/pad, plus our usua buttons) could make an interesting game.

Also, I believe GothPunk has hit the spot on the real facts/figures question. Could be a really good way of learning about some fun facts, even if it was just in loading screens.

Looks really interesting! The animation of the guy brought back memories of Flashback on the SNES :D

Would be cool to have a level design being info graphics based on actual data within game (i.e. you jumped this many times, played for this length of time etc) so the environment would be different for everyone.

Amazing design, graphics and music so far.
I’m intrigued by this, and my wife wants to play this right now already.

Now if only I could import my own datasets to save visualization work ;)

Heel veel succes!

@10

If you go to lengths to create a username called Singspam, you are in fact spamming yourself, therefore your statement is invalid.

And leave this for the forums. Not a blog post where your comment is totally irrelevant.

@ Digital Dreams. I have an idea of how the game will play from the trailer, levels and obstacles build up visually in a statistical form.
Very smooth, can’t wait for its release. :)

We close the comments for posts after 30 days.
