God of War: Ascension 1v1 multiplayer mode revealed

God of War: Ascension on PS3

The folks from good old @SonySantaMonica have summoned me, The Barbarian King, from the depths of The Underworld to inform you of our latest 1.09 update available now, including the much anticipated new 1v1 mode – Bout of Honor! You can view the full change-list at the official site, www.godofwar.com.

Since the dawn of our multiplayer, warriors have cried out to the Gods asking for @SonySantaMonica to create a mode where Champions can pit their skills against each other without distraction. I am here to tell you, combatants, the time has finally come!

In Bout of Honor two warriors will put their lives and reputations on the line to achieve the best of seven rounds in this strictly 1v1 mode. Bout of Honor is a true contest of skill with no chests, fountains, or world weapons to aid you. This mode also disables relics and allows for a Champion’s magic to regenerate over time. Beware, my brothers in arms, magic generates slowly over time so use it sparingly. If you are careless you may end up like the Prophet Castor with your head underneath another warrior’s boot.

Along with this brand new mode come four new maps specifically crafted for Bout of Honor:

  • Canyons of Kirra
  • Chamber of the Flame
  • Landing at Delos
  • Streets of Sparta

The developers at Sony Santa Monica have been painstakingly crafting a mode for both fans of fighting games and the legions of Champions playing Ascension’s multiplayer to enjoy. The team has made some balancing tweaks especially for Bout of Honor to ensure matches are fought in a fair and honorable fashion. Infinites have been removed, overpowered weapons tweaked, and damage from 100% combos adjusted.

Lastly, warriors who are not quite ready to rely solely on the strength of their blade but still wish to acquire the Favor of the Gods will enjoy a brand new 4 player map – The Whirlpool of Alecto.. A nod to one of the greatest moments in God of War: Ascension’s single player campaign, The Whirlpool of Alecto features a giant leviathan whose sole purpose is to unleash Alecto’s fury in the form of physical pain onto any unsuspecting warrior careless enough to venture into its domain. The level also features elevated terrain sections for knocking over, slamming, and stunning your opponents.

The best part is that these features are all free, right now! Praise be to the Gods for hearing our cries! The team at Sony Santa Monica would like to give a special thanks to the thousands of Championsworldwide supporting the team, and playing God of War: Ascension multiplayer.

So the update is available now?

Lord_Gremlin 11 July, 2013 @ 22:04

Why would you want it? The multiplayer is not skill based, your level and gear is all that matters. Awful game, one of the worst I’ve played in my life. Santa Monica seriously stained their reputation. they are no longer “day 1 buy no questions asked” developer.

I don’t pronounce quick judgment. I’ve played every GoW game and actually forced myself to spend like 20 hours in MP. This is awful. I remember Rune, Powerstone, Anarchy Reigns, there was a number of such games I’ve played a LOT. GoW Ascension balance is absolutely awful. It’s the progression system. It does not belong to such games.

The single player game was so disappointing that I never even bothered with the multiplayer. The combat system was completely butchered :(

Great looking game that wasn’t fun to play.

I have GoW:A Season Pass. When does the season begin?

I’d much rather see more of PSABR than this. Especially that piece of DLC we are missing.

Круто. Мне подрыву.

worst thing the studio has done

Decorating shops must love this studio with the amount of copy and pasting they do

Santa Monica, Are you havin a laugh or what ?, ok. tried the mp, which i was keen on, (idea of it etc) but just didn’t like it, no problem thinks i, as i will just play SP, fired my game up other night to see i needed to update to vers09, from the .07 i had, First download was over 500mb, jeez thought i, Then, after that installed the 2nd one was over 1GB wt?, IF i choose not to update i cannot play signed in, but Why must us SP players be Forced to update so much mem, for a mode that only a fraction of GoW fans enjoy,am really unhappy with this seemingly normal and Acceptable (lol) way of doing updates, as above say’s, lost a Lot of respect.

@solar you should complain at sony/who came up with the update system.

obviously you shouldnt complain at devs who update a game even if its just for some of the players. they are bound to use the system in place and the way ps3 updates work there is no other way, hopefully we see some progress on ps4 :)

Am not 100%, i mean i can remember earlier SP/MP games getting new MP content, But ther updates were nowhere near as big as they are nowdays, i ‘think’ it’s some kind of sales pitch, ie they force you to download the extra MP content anyway, so you may as well just buy the unlock key for it, may sound mad, but hey, it’s SCE so, out of interest i would like to know how large the ‘unlock’ files are for these new modes, and why they ‘reversed’ the system, ie everone has to download all or large part of add on, instead of the smaller file that just told server you haven’t got needed dlc, so just don’t put me in same room with those who have.
