Recruits needed for Killzone Mercenary multiplayer beta!

Sign-ups for the Killzone: Mercenary closed beta start today! Enter for a chance to be selected as one of the lucky few participants in the exclusive multiplayer closed beta here .

Candidates have until 10:00pm BST on 17th July to sign up for gamers’ first look at Mercenary’s impressive multiplayer package. If chosen to participate, you will receive an email with directions on how to get started.

Mercenary’s multiplayer suite will provide players with a diverse range of weapons, grenades, armor, and special VAN-Guard devices enabling the player to customize their multiplayer load-out slots. This customisation supports the tactical element of the game – will you armor yourself up and go in like a tank, or take a more precise approach and assassinate enemies stealthily?

No matter your tactical approach, Mercenary’s multiplayer beta will give gamers an early look into the power and promise of PlayStation Vita as the optimal handheld platform for first-person shooters. Salivating? Sign up now before all slots are filled!

I’m in, signed!

is there a link . Not near pc or ps3

One question. I got access to the beta pages, but I can’t find the voucher for the Killzone Mercenary Beta. Will I get it in my Email box or will I see it on the beta page?

Alex Burrow 16 July, 2013 @ 16:27

Hi Nazar_Ops

If you have been successfully accepted, we will send you an e-mail with more information once the Beta is live.

I will reply to this post once we go live to avoid you wondering when that is :).

Wasn’t the whole getting into early beta’s once a thing for Plus members? When was the last time we had that privilege?

Signed up, here’s hoping i get accepted.

stupid phone … In now tho :) this looks ace

Signed. My VITA is charged and ready! Bring some helghast now!

So wait… Why so few and limited countries can take part of the closed beta?

Alex Burrow 16 July, 2013 @ 16:29

Hi TheMart,

The Beta is open to all Sony Computer Entertainment Europe countries.

Meh beta.. Gimme the full game already :p Will the progress made in this beta carry over to the actual game? Then I might put some time and bandwith into this..

nice, signed up

Done and advertised to my clan :) x

When are we likely to receive an e-mail to let us know whether we have gained entry for the online multiplayer BETA for Killzone Mercenary?

Done :)

dogwalker4000 12 July, 2013 @ 16:53

Cool. Hopefully see you lot in the beta :P

pick me.pick me~

I’ve got a question about controls. Will there be a “southpaw” sticks configuration avilable in Killzone Mercenary?

Countries: AE, AU, GB, IE, NZ

So, where does this leave me exactly in The Netherlands? I could write up with my PSN account…. What will this mean for me?

edwineverready 12 July, 2013 @ 17:33

Fingers crossed i have been part of every killzone beta and i would love to test out this one!!!!!

I really want to test this game! Already pre-ordered it, can’t wait to play :D Going to be a killzone fanboy now :D

This is the game that makes it worth to have a PS Vita!

BlitzkriegMatt 12 July, 2013 @ 18:01

Why did I still not get an e-mail reply?

XDerKleineX 12 July, 2013 @ 18:18

So would someone here be so kind as to tell me why I don’t have the “permissions” to access the sign up page?

My first and best bet is that it has to do with the classification process of the game, german law etc. etc. You will probably get a censored version in Germany.

I just pray to the old ones that the rest of Europe doesn’t get a nanny version like we did with TLoU and GoW:A. :( That was seriously bad style, SCEE, shame on you!

TheGrimReaper001 12 July, 2013 @ 18:30

I wanna try the beta! I can’t afford to go to Gamescom!
Come on! I bought a new PS3 yesterday, can’t that be an extra? X)

KillerStefan15 12 July, 2013 @ 18:33

Germany bro, violence restrictions of your nation

Wasn’t the whole getting into early beta’s once a thing for Plus members? When was the last time we had that privilege?”

I think they stopped doing that too bad…

“Posted on 12 July, 2013 at 6:01 pm by BlitzkriegMatt
Why did I still not get an e-mail reply?”

Because this writing up thing runs until the 17th… Read…

After that date at some time the people that get in will receive an email.

@ TheMART Can they just cancel a part of a service they promised you when they sold it? I guess…

Yes they can actually… They can alter the service pretty much as they wish. They also did when the PSVita PS+ section was added. The total amount of games are given, but not how it is spread over the platforms either.

Not that I really care a lot, as I own both PS3 and PSVita, even when PS4 comes into PS+ and they alter the total number of games and spreading them over the platforms I don’t care as I’ll own a PS4 day one.

But yeah. I am a bit reserved, because DriveClub PS+ version has less cars and tracks than the retail version, then again we’re getting a day one game that is completely new free to play so… But it is some sort of glorified demo nontheless, if you want the full game you gotta pay.

Wish these beta’s would have PS+ advantages though. We’ll see if I get in

PortalOfGaming 12 July, 2013 @ 20:27

Done now. For you guys who are wondering when the winners are gonna get the beta code, it’s on 19 July, which is about a week, and we will get the beta code in a mail.
How I know that? Sometimes you just need to read in the beta site for the games. ^^

Alex Burrow 16 July, 2013 @ 16:35

Good guess, but e-mails will be sent shortly after the 19th July.

I can’t confirm an exact date, but stay tuned to my first comment above where I will confirm when the e-mails have been released to those who have been selected.

PortalOfGaming 12 July, 2013 @ 20:30

I meant 17 july, it was just a typo.

“Your permissions do not allow you access to this section.” I’m getting this too.

@ PortalOfGaming

That’s what I just said…

@ Skarra

Maybe you aren’t 18 years yet? Just guessing… It probably is age restricted on violent stuff for some, and country specific (Germany for example) for others.

I would very much like to be a part of this! However do we need to provide feedback in regards to bugs or balance. As it may be better suited to someone with a little more free time… =[

Is this blog now officially tricking ps3 users?? As you can see from the comments alone ton of people signed up f or this thinking its for ps3. If you post vita news to this blog maybe make it more clear? Not everyone wants to read all your articles or gives a F for the dead vita

@ PortalOfGaming That’s not necessarily true. They just close the sign ups on the 17th of July, but that doesn’t mean codes will be sent out that day. Don’t get me wrong, I would like it sooner, but I don’t think it’s going to be 17th.

I_CAN_HAZ_MONEY 12 July, 2013 @ 22:19

I live about five miles away from Guerilla Cambridge’s studio. Obviously that won’t get me in, but I think it’s that bit more special knowing that my hometown has such great talent within. Kudos!

XDerKleineX 12 July, 2013 @ 22:30

Ok, so while the link in this article didn’t let me sign up the one in an IGN article did. For anyone else who had trouble signing up (because of permissions) try this link:

Thanks for this opportunity. I’m a noob but I hope I get selected. This should be fun and a learning experience as to what to look for in a game. I think many times we are TOLD what makes a good game instead of deciding for ourselves and focusing on how much FUN we are having.

PortalOfGaming 12 July, 2013 @ 23:25

45# Sorry, but i’m writing from my vita, meaning I write quite slow.

48# Sure, it may not be true, however, you will never know if they do that.

Seems it is just you who got ‘tricked’. No one else complaining.

Besides the fact that every real gamer knows Killzone Mercenary is a PSVita game. No new Killzones or betas for PS3.

PS4 will get a new Killzone too, but how you think you’d play a PS4 Killzone beta?

Logical thinking. Sometimes it is hard for some people I guess.

PSVita is alive for those that play games.

I’ve heard that God of War Ascension was censored across Europe, and I’ve heard that the gore in The Last of Us multiplayer has been reduced. I haven’t yet played God of War: Ascension, and since I haven’t played the american version of The Last of Us, I can’t really compare the amount of gore, so I guess you can say I haven’t really noticed the difference.

That being said, I really hope all of this stuff about censoring will end. (I’m not saying this directed towards you, “cowbanana”) I mean for crying out loud people, you’re killing hundreds, if not thousands of people in these games. If curse words, nudity or gore still truly offends you, I think you need to get your head on straight.

I’m not saying this to offend anyone, I just think censoring in general is absolutely deplorable. In games, it’s just distracting, and it pulls you out of the immersive experience whenever you hear that *bleep* sound or something like that.

Cheers @XDerKleineX #50!

Despite having been a Beta tester for years (including Beta testing Home) it wouldn’t let me in due to “permissions”… No explanation why.

Not good for an old Beta tester and Plus subscriber…

Signed up a couple of days ago, still no email….

im not signed in and i have the code why i dont know

War and Beta is our business.

Let’s hope I can enter the beta (with all of you guys!).

@ Farrmark

Read dude, read… The signing up for this beta runs till the 17th.

So don’t expect an e-mail before that date.

Well, being a PS+ member, one of the key selling points was ‘inclusion in betas’, so why now – are we being asked to sign up to them?

Should I, and the other PS+ subscribers be included anyway?

Yes please :-)

Pleaseeee let me in! Been waiting ages for this one

Is this beta different than the one from PShome?

Cant wait.

solarwind12 16 July, 2013 @ 20:23

@MrXilit’s most probably a space issue, i can remember the Killzone3 beta, back in oct10, it was only open to plus, and you had to try and be in first 10,000 or so that downloaded a theme, If you were in the 1st 10thou, you got email with code,i think i downloaded the theme in first 2 minutes, and was picked, but a lot of people ‘said’ they downloaded theirs whitin 5 minutes, but were to late, just a popular game, also that was the old plus, when the benefits were beta entries, it’s very different today cos of IGC, but back then (lol) there was pages of complaints from people who missed out, btw, the KZ3 beta is Still going, due to end oct this year, best one i played, anyway good luck, am not entering this one, backlog etc.

solarwind12 16 July, 2013 @ 20:36

Sorry, you censor my post because i detail a actual example of the censorship in TLoU MP ?, shame on All of you

QuIcKs_ImPuLs3 22 July, 2013 @ 15:03

Mr. alex I have a question to ask you.
how many people will you send the email with the beta code?
above all, it takes a long time before that emails arrive?

boombooomoooo 23 July, 2013 @ 01:25

thats a good question I never thought of that.

Hi Alex,
Could you tell us whether there will be a selection based on some criteria, or will it be “first come first served”?

If there are criteria could you tell us what they are?

Too excited about this!!

Surely i deserve a code, I’ve Signed up within an hour of this blog post and i’ve also pre-ordered the game which alone should make you entitled to a beta code, Been waiting for the Beta for weeks and unfortunately couldn’t get access through the PS Home E3 Booth because it turned out it was only available in the US.
Please give me a code and i will be eternally greatful!

Hi Alex,

could you update us about the release of beta codes?
When should we expect them? Today, Friday, this week, next week…

At this rate, expect the beta to be release in October, after the retail release -_-
How hard is it to say “Yup we’ll release the codes this week, next week or whenever we feel like”.

shmoogolicious 24 July, 2013 @ 14:36

Can we please just know when the codes will be out. This week, next week, NEVER? This is my most anticipated game on the Vita and from what i’ve seen so far, it’s killing me just waiting to get my hands on the beta codes.

Forget what I just said: ” did you receive the mail?” – “No, I have a friend that works for SCEE”

rafalwolf11 25 July, 2013 @ 23:04

If that is the way you treat your loyal customers then I’m out, you firstly get all of us hyped for the beta, secondly you give us a date that sounded promising but you delayed it without telling us anything or the length of the delay (really I have been checking my email every 1 hour for the past week expecting that email), thirdly you tell us that the emails will be sent shortly, but you give them out to your little friends (, and we get nothing, for that alone you should make that “closed” beta available for everyone.

Hi Alex, please can you give us an update on the beta code emails today please?

It’s been a week since the sign ups finished and it’s nearly the weekend, and there’s been no news anywhere.

Not having a pop, just very excited for this game and am eager to get stuck in to the beta (assuming I’m selected)

obiadekanobi1980 26 July, 2013 @ 13:51

hi guys

you need to really sort out your beta criterea out im a huge killzone fan own both PS3 and vita and have seen ppl applying for codes and reciving them and then giving them away online!!

this is very annoying to see as soeone who is yet to recive a code even though i have taken part in kz3 beta and owning both titles on the system 80% trophies, on kz2 and a plat on kz3 along with purchases of all dlc yet these guys get these codes while showing no intrest in the series.

this has to change, why do we bother to tie our accounts either with twitter facebook forums etc if they do not use that info to select the beta users, thats how it should be done…..

Dear Alex Burrow,
Someone at twitter has got beta because he/she has links at SCEE and we here are dying to receive code emails! Please, it’s a humble request that either way you release the emails or at least notify us here that how long do we have to still keep waiting!

yey the betas going to be released shortly hope i get chosen

rafalwolf11 26 July, 2013 @ 19:44

They don’t care about us, end of story.

Alex, is there any news?

Alex Burrow 29 July, 2013 @ 14:36

Hi all,

Thanks for hanging in there.

Just to confirm that we have not yet sent out the invitation e-mails for the Public Limited phase that you registered your interest to take part in.

Currently the SCEE Private Beta phase is taking place which is with SCEE Staff (and 2 of their Family & Friends) and the PlayStation Private Beta community only. This is usually the second phase of PlayStation Beta Testing, after the Internal Beta, where the participants are also tied to a Non-Disclosure Agreement (“NDA”).

I will pop a comment on here when the e-mails have been released for the Killzone: Mercenary Public Limited Beta :).

dark_angel69 29 July, 2013 @ 15:46

Hey Alex. Any chance of throwing a code my way seeing I never got a chance to sign up? I keep looking up the game a lot these days to buy it but I need to try it out so I can go ahead and place my pre-order. Too many good games out this year and I don’t have the money for them all. I would must rather buy a home console game than a Vita game seeing the Vita games don’t interest me as much as the proper console games but trying this beta out can really help a lot

obiadekanobi1980 29 July, 2013 @ 15:54

Thanks for the heads up, pity it took a twitter “psn family & 2 friends” guy to post up some info though just to get this reply for the ppl who “buy” your games……

Just please dont let it be another week before we hear from you again, hope i get a code though!! heres to the witchcraft im currently employing to aid my chances….”)

Until we do get our codes this should wet your whistles (im on my 5th viewing lol)

obiadekanobi1980 29 July, 2013 @ 15:59

@dark-angel69 nice try mate but hell would freeze over before that happened lol should have signed up mate… actually why didnt you?

Most vita owners were there like captian zoom lol

Hi Alex, thanks for the update but I dint thunk anyone here is looking for an explanation of what a beta is, or what the various phases are. What we’d like an idea of is when are the emails likely to go out.

are we talking tommorrow, this week, bext week etc.

just some idea of when they’ll go out, otherwise people are checking blogs an emails endlessly when there isn’t much point if it’s not likely to happen for a while, would save a lot of frustration.

having said that thank you for the update, really looking forward to the game

thanks again

Thank you, Alex.

Betas are betas, demos are demos. It seems like you’re looking for a demo (that I think it won’t be released). Also, it’s not fair someone who signed up don’t receive the code and you, who didn’t sign up, receive it.

rafalwolf11 29 July, 2013 @ 17:20

Why firstly you make all of us exited that the beta will be out soon, you give us a solid state date (17th July) and then you tell us that the private beta is taking place now?, and we have to wait you could have told us about that, or you could have made the sign up dates so that when the deadline hits the next day you send invitations, also you don’t tell us any dates, how long is the private beta? Or when will the beta be for public? Also why so late? The game is to be released in about a month, usually betas are like 2-3 months before so glitches exploits and bugs can be fixed. Also so you can get some useful feedback from your major fanbase.

dark_angel69 29 July, 2013 @ 17:32

True enough but worth a shot. lol. Was away on holiday and only got home on the day it was closed so didn’t even know anything about it nor have access to signing up if I did.

Yes your right it wouldn’t be fair. Would be a whole lot nicer if everyone could get it. But at least most people here had a chance of getting in cos as you can see my comment above I didn’t get a chance at all. Even the smallest possibility of getting in is better odds than not at all. Would rather the beta as it would not only let me feel the game play but can see the multiplayer too. Not a big multiplayer gamer and it would also save part of the story from getting ruined.

The post merely states that the last day to sign up for the beta is the 17th of July. It makes no “solid state date” of when invites will go out.

resistance_64 29 July, 2013 @ 19:04

U guys better be making more codes with your spare time! Idk how u guys think its okay to put out a beta sign up and just leave us here! u could at least put out the sign up now so no one will complain! Im getting annoyed right now because i bought all of the dlc for both KZ 2 and 3 (theres a lot of fans with the same story if u didn’t notice) . and ur the only one responding to us. that tells me no one even cares that we have been waiting here for so long. so your friends and family can play their betas even though there gonnna end up getting it! plus i had to come here in order to get a response to the other forum

People are frustrated and impatient and I can’t really blame them.
It’s the end of July and there is nothing interesting for Vita owners.
Dragon’s Crown won’t be released in Europe yet, Killzone Mercenary will be released in September and the Summer Sales are being kept somewhere in CIA’s vaults as a top secret project.

So, this beta is all we can expect when it comes to AAA gaming, even if it’s only a preview of the game.
It would be nice if we could have an estimate on when to expect this to begin.

Hi Alex and KZ community
I got really excited when I got my code from the E3 Home event but only found out recently that this particular beta would be different and that I missed my chance to sign up for it.

I was in the hopes that since I’m a psn+ subscriber, already pre-ordered this game, and continuously play KZ2 and KZ3 that perhaps if there are extra codes then I would be able to participate on this beta.

I’m really looking forward to this game and I can always wait for the official release but I would truly appreciate and put a lot of time into the beta if given the chance.

Either way keep the good work and good luck to those that signed up for the code.

Hi Alex

This game is my most anticipated one on the vita so far and I would really like to get in the beta, but are there any news about the e-mails? If we continue like this the public beta will be before this one…
