New Football Manager Classic 2014 video shows off 3D match engine

An exclusive first look at how the classic sports sim runs on PS Vita

Hello again, PlayStation people. It’s hard to believe now, but it was just over 18 months ago that Shahid Ahmad and his team at PlayStation came to see us to have a “wouldn’t it be good if..?” conversation. That type of conversation happens all the time and, more often than not, leads nowhere… but not this time. This Friday, 11th April, that “wouldn’t it be good if…?” game is going to be available to anyone who has access to a Vita.
Football Manager Classic 2014 for PlayStation Vita is notable for a number of reasons, but today I’m going to concentrate on just one, the 3D match engine.
From the very start of this project, the most important thing we had to work out was how to bring to PS Vita the same match engine that features in the PC/Mac game, along with the 3D match view. We’re very proud of the handheld versions of Football Manager that we’ve put out for the past few years, but it’s always been a frustration to us that current smartphones and tablets just aren’t powerful enough to deliver the full FM experience. The possibility of running the match engine on a handheld was what drew us to PS Vita in the first place and although it took a lot of hard work, with programmers making what seems impossible possible, to make it happen, the results are clear. It works!
On the subject of all of that effort, I’d like to take this opportunity to once again thank everyone who pulled out all of their various stops to help us make this happen – not only our own team, but also a plethora of people at Sony and at the two studios who collaborated with us on this, Hardlight and Little Stone Software.
The game you will see on Friday doesn’t just push the PS Vita hardware as far as it will go, it also stretched the skills and expertise of just about everyone who worked on the game and I think they can all be very proud of the result.
But what’s the point of me telling you about all of this when it’s just as easy to show you? I hope you enjoy this exclusive video and look forward to hearing your feedback when you get to play the game later this week.
