Don’t Starve: Giant Edition coming soon to PS Vita

Expanded edition of the acclaimed survival sim goes handheld

Hey everyone! I’m Corey Rollins from Klei Entertainment, and I’m happy to announce Don’t Starve: Giant Edition is coming to PlayStation Vita and will include both Don’t Starve and the Reign of Giants Expansion. Now, we’re not sure of an exact release date yet, but it’s happening.

Since we first released Don’t Starve: Console Edition on PS4, a lot of people said they’d love to play it on the go with their Vita. Well, we agree!

Don’t Starve: Giant Edition will include the original Don’t Starve along with all of the updates currently released on PC and PS4, including the multi-levelled caves update and the discoverable “Adventure Mode” that puts your survival skills to the test with multiple randomly-generated unique worlds as you try to escape your wild and strange prison.

Along with the original version of Don’t Starve, you’ll also get the Reign of Giants Expansion included! So Vita players will get access to the original nine characters and two new additions. Play as Wigfrid, a stage actress who went a bit too far with method acting on her latest role, an ancient Valkyrie, or Webber, a young boy who lives inside the spider who tried to eat him long ago.

The Reign of Giants expansion adds new seasonal challenges including the torrential rain falls of spring and the blistering heat of summer. You’ll also get new procedurally-generated biomes filled to the brim with new creatures and gatherables that will either help you survive — or kill you. Oh, and Giants.

We’ve also optimized the game to take advantage of Vita’s touch features. Navigation for menus, maps, items, and crafting are all touch friendly, or you can use the classic button navigation.

We’ll have more details in the coming months, but we wanted to confirm it’s happening. We’re also working on the final steps to bring the Reign of Giants Expansion to PS4. So expect an update on that release soon.

I found it kinda hard to see things in the menu when playing on Vita via remote play. Have you guys made things appear clearer on the Vita version? I love the PS4 game, & this interest me :D

You can increase the size of the UI menus if that helps. It worked for me! Check the options.

Thank god buttons are still an option.

Why is tearaway in the sales section of the PSN store yet no discount is applied ????

The fact that I hate your overwhelming presence on this blog aside (since it’s not contributing to any of the discussions here or important topics regarding PlayStation), I give you the well-intended advice to find something better to do with your time. Why are you not playing the games you appear to care about? Or go do something outside, it’s getting warm and sunny. Socialise. Whatever – but don’t waste your precious time annoying everyone else on this blog and disrespecting the honest work of the people at Sony and game developers.

I have sent this too. I think E3 is going to give some surprises this year….

Great! Can’t wait =D

Is Don’t Starve crossbuy when one got the PS4 version?

I want to learn this too.

That’s very unlikely. Since the version to be released on the Vita is not identical to the PS4 version (included DLC), cross-buy is most likely not going to happen. Developers seem to get around the pressure by not releasing on all platforms at the same time and including DLC to creat different versions. This may be regarded as good or bad; Everyone likes the value of cross-buy but the developers need to make money, too.

Do you have any plans to bring multiplayer to PS4/Vita version once it’s out on PC? Cross-play would be a pretty cool feature for a game like Don’t Starve.

Yes please. Too many devs are forgetting about local multiplayer.

seems unlikely given that the PC version has no multiplayer

My bad, misread Alex’s post. Yes, it’d be nice to see it implemented into the console versions once it *has* been implemented on PC (Which, let’s face it, is bound to be delayed)

Life is good. Now its better.

Sounds good, looking forward to it, and yes please to the 4 player online and / or local, that would be ace.

Don’t Starve is coming to Vita, you say Corey? This makes me VERY happy! I’m an unabashed indie nut, and as far as I’m concerned, it really doesn’t get much better than the utterly sterling Don’t Starve :-)

Great to see this coming to Vita. Love the PC version but have zero interest in the PS4, this however will be a day-one purchase :D

Nice, don’t suppose there is also a chance of getting shank 1&2?

Will the expansion include co-op mode or is that in another update?

The ‘Reign of Giants’ expansion does not include co-op. RoG is already available on PC (and has been for a while now) – the multiplayer patch isn’t even in Beta stage yet.

This will be a must have, when done right Vita will be the go-to platform for this!

Oh, man! That’s some great news!

Good stuff.

Graite nus!

I can’t wait for this, I’m not really a PC gamer so this gem was a surprise for me when it arrived on PS Plus. Absolutely loved it and I’m looking forward to get back into it with this DLC!

PS Vita is turning out to be a hell of a roguelike Machine. Don’t mind though, many of them fit really well in to portable format especially with both touch controls and buttons.

Can’t wait :D
