One arrow, one life, lots of bosses – can you survive Titan Souls on PS4/Vita?

Introducing Acidnerve’s brutal fantasy action adventure

Armed with a single, indestructible arrow, Titan Souls drops you into the midst of a desolate world you have no knowledge of. Exploration will soon reveal the hiding places of the Titans that reside here, and it’s your job to take them down.

Adrenaline-fueled, tense and punishing boss battles are a love of ours that we think a lot of gamers share. These kind of battles are the very core of the gameplay in Titan Souls. There are no health bars – a single strike will end your life, and a single hit to a Titan’s weak spot is all you’ll need to pull off a kill.

It’s not as simple as it sounds however – each Titan is completely unique, with its own threatening move set and its own hidden weakness to be exposed. It’s a challenging game, and we’re not going to help you out with any overt tutorials or prompts either – you’ll need to observe carefully and figure things out for yourself. Whilst simultaneously managing to survive. Maybe we’re just horrible people.

The idea was born out of a Ludum Dare jam game of the same name that we made in a weekend back in December. The theme was ‘You Only Get One’, which is where our core mechanic of firing and retrieving your single arrow came from. Along with only having one ‘health point’, this was our starting point for the game’s brutal difficulty. We initially thought this might have been a hard sell, but we were thrilled by the positive feedback we received and immediately took up the opportunity to make Titan Souls into a full game with the help of Devolver Digital.

Titan Souls - Screen 3

We’ve been working hard making an all-new engine with better graphics and more fluid movement, a larger overworld with a greater attention to detail, and a ton more boss fights with greater complexity and improved balance.

We’re all amazed at how far Titan Souls has come since starting out as a jam game six months ago – it’s been a hugely exciting journey culminating in the announcement of the game coming to PS4 and PS Vita on the PlayStation stage at E3. We can’t wait to further improve, expand and show off the game as we approach our early 2015 release.

Looks interesting ;-) I kind of like these super-gory games with retro-feel about them :-)

Game looks like a lot of fun!

Thanks for supporting Vita. Game looks pretty awesome. Loving what Devolver is doing for Vita.

This game and the gameplay looks so awesome. Thank you for the great Indie support Sony I really appreciate it!

Saw Videogamer play the PC version. Game looks HARD! Glad it’s getting a PS4 release. So many indies to play during this summer drought!

Looking extremely good! Sorry to hijack the thread but while we’re on the subject of PS Vita, when will the IGC Lego Batman glitch on the store be fixed? Still shows up as £19.99 for me. Cheers!

And speaking of glitches, will the price on certain games in the “Big in Japan” sale be fixed as well?

Alrite mate. Was the same for me but if you look next to the price it should say download and not buy even though it still says £19.99. Click download and it will instantly start downloading and you wont be charged. It wont even take you to the checkout. Should just start downloading as soon as clicked

I like the sound of this but why the hell is it only for ps4 and vita, when it could run fine in ps3 as well Indy developers seem to be forgetting the bigger user base where they could make much more profit

Yet another broken game from Devolver? Fix luftrausers first.

What’s wrong with it? I was thinking to buy it soon, so it will be nice to know.

It’s impossible to complete all missions and get final… plane.

It’s not impossible. It’s just effing difficult.
It’s such an amazing game though. Don’t let this guy put you off rochala

Really, REALLY looking forward to getting to grips with Titan Souls on my Vita!

That sucks, thanks for the warning.

Awesome looking game. Again looking forward to playing on Vita #BestOnVita!

This is music to my ears.

I play the multiplayer. It’s great. And many agree; if you look at the metacritic scores that you seem to value so much, you’ll see that the average isn’t high because it’s mixed between quite high scores and other low ones. Meaning there were people who loved it. As opposed to games with average metacritic scores that have mostly “yellow” reviews, KZ has plenty of green ones.

I see they’re going ALL OUT on the graphics front.

zalwelgoedgaan 03 July, 2014 @ 19:11

Still more interesting than that Order 1886 movie everyone’s been talking about.

Porcupeth00 03 July, 2014 @ 20:38

both your posts make me facepalm

Gameplay over graphics everytime and the premise for Titan Souls is very intriguing

polygon have a great gameplay demo and interview here:

looks so good, can’t wait

Another hideous 2D pixelart game for PS4

Don’t buy it then!

I wont. Too any retro graphic games being released. Hotline miami was ok but find it hard to put a lot of hours into these games. Need something for the eyes as well as good gameplay

zalwelgoedgaan 04 July, 2014 @ 12:17

If you want good graphics + gameplay then buy a Wii U. In Sony’s case, the put more emphasis on the former than the latter.

Exactly, and after the awesomeness of OlliOlli, Hotline Miami and Luftrausers, I’m happy to support any developers that Devolver takes under its wing

Looks very interesting.

On a completely unrelated note, Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen is not available for purchase in Portugal at this moment :(

Why were there no new news on Friday? 4th July is a normal working day in Europe.

One Company, One Console, Lots of bad decisions-Can the Vita survive without a proper release of Freedom Wars in Europe? No it can’t.

Vita is already dead though.

According to Sony it’s not dead enough.

seems alright. might pick it up sometimes.

How can anybody likes this kind of games on next-gen? I can’t understand but if there are people who like it so let them be on the shelfs :)
