New on PlayStation Store: Destiny beta, Crimsonland, Abyss Odyssey, more

Plus, The Last of Us Remastered pre-order and new discounts

First and foremost this week, the much-anticipated Destiny beta goes live tomorrow afternoon! Make sure you have a pre-order in place in order to grab a key.

Elsewhere, top-down shooter Crimsonland arrives on PS4 today, with local co-op for up to for players, tons of weapons to blast swarms of enemies with and various survival modes to test your skills in.

Travel back to a land before time into an era of dinosaurs and pre-historic creatures using a time machine. But be careful, for these wild creatures aim to cut your journey short. Build towers, catapults and other defensive measures to protect your precious time machine from these ancient creatures.

Also out this week, Atlus drops Abyss Odyssey, The Last of Us Remastered is up for pre-order on PS4 and Watch_Dogs is discounted on PS3. Finally, refer to the Call of Duty sale post to see what’s on offer there too.

Get to try Abyss Odyssey, not too bothered with Crimsonland though. Is The Walking Dead S2 Ep4 out soon does anybody know?

Hey Jawad, is there going to be a digital release of Tales Of Xillia 2 on the store next month??

    Jawad Ashraf 16 July, 2014 @ 3:27 pm

Should be up around the same time 🙂

Next month already…I haven’t even played the first!

    chad1990 16 July, 2014 @ 3:41 pm

    Awesome news 🙂

N get playing it! Tis the best Tales Of game IMO

Even better than Tales of the Abyss? (a killer title for the PS2.. I remember it to this day).

DanteuszPL 16 July, 2014 @ 3:04 pm   3

Any chance for fixing Digital Devil Saga in Poland this week?

HeikeStagBeetle 16 July, 2014 @ 3:04 pm   4

Hi Jawad,

Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 are still not available on the Dutch psn store. You announced these in the June 25 and July 2 store updates, respectively. Would you be able to look into this?

NICKBOYD 16 July, 2014 @ 3:05 pm   5

Hey quick question. I have already had Destiny preordred through the store for PS4 for quite a while but now there is a new edition so is there an upgrade program? Don’t want to have to go through the hassle of dealing with getting my current preorder cancelled.

    Slaine_23 16 July, 2014 @ 3:18 pm

US Store has the upgrade feature on it so I would hope the same thing would be available on the EU Store.

    monoliet 16 July, 2014 @ 3:24 pm

if them not do i gone cansel tru psn- wallet – then pick date you preorderd then you have option to cansel.

why not tru store on preorder self i do not understend
then rebuy other version 😉 ( after beta ended )

    h4sh1sh33b 30 July, 2014 @ 12:16 pm

I’ve looked everywhere and they don’t have the option to upgrade to the Digital Guardian edition but what you can do is to go to your transaction history on your account, find the date you pre-ordered the standard edition, cancel the pre-order and order the digital guardian edition. That’s the only way I could do it for now. Good luck.

CombatCow 16 July, 2014 @ 3:05 pm   6

Destiny: Digital Guardian Edition (PS4) (pre-order from Thursday)

    wardenxx 16 July, 2014 @ 3:07 pm

I take it I’m not the only one that’s going to be sitting there at midnight waiting for it all to go live! 🙂

    Bacon_Crispies 16 July, 2014 @ 3:13 pm

£84.99 for a digital version of a game while a physical copy with resell value costs £80 (which may drop in price before release) is not “Schweet!”, sounds like a rip off.
Its prices like this and the people that buy them which means digital prices stay so high.

Hope you realise its $89.99 in the US store… £50ish for us. Beyond a joke.
If you want it digitally, hard to support the price here.

    CombatCow 16 July, 2014 @ 3:25 pm

It’s £80 from amazon = €101 and €130 for the physical limited edition copy here in gamestop Ireland. I have no need for the steelbook or postcards etc. and having it unlock at midnight rather then waiting for the post is a better option for me. So all in all €99 is fine.

    Bacon_Crispies 16 July, 2014 @ 4:00 pm

Well it seems for you the price isn’t to bad compared to physical, for me physical games usually arrive the day before release so there is a chance to play it the day before release (if the servers are up)
Do Sony Europe have any plans for pre-loading Destiny or come midnight is everyone going to be downloading 20GB+?

    eoinoreilly24 16 July, 2014 @ 4:25 pm

@Bacon_Crispies I’m sure it will be preloaded. I’m not sure if they do it for every game but they surely will for a big release like that.

@CombatCow €100 for a game is not, by any stretch of the imagination, “fine”. You said it yourself, you can get the physical version from Amazon for the same price, plus it comes with all those extra items, nice packaging, may drop in price between now and release date (unless I’m very much mistaken, Amazon charges the lowest price an item reaches between the time you preorder and the time they dispatch) and may be delivered a day early, as happens. For that physical version, a portion of the price goes to the retailer and the cost of manufacturing each copy is much much more than the cost of running servers from which customers can download the digital version. It’s in Sony’s and in publishers’ interest to incentivise digital purchases, but whether it’s purely because of greed or because of deals struck with GameStop, etc, they tend to charge as much or slightly less than the RRP of the physical copies. It’s ludicrous and, as usual, the only one hurt by the situation is us, the consumer.

I’m not telling you how to use your money, especially considering it’s not so long ago that I pre-ordered Dark Souls II from the Playstation Store at full price myself, but it is directly because so many of us are willing to regularly shell out such ludicrous sums of money for games that Sony feel they are entitled to charge as much as they do for them. My advice would be to, at least, hold off on your pre-order until closer the release date. maybe if enough people do the same the message will get through that €100 for a game is not a reasonable price and not, in any way, “fine”.

    CombatCow 16 July, 2014 @ 5:30 pm

Sure €100 is a lot of money, but comparing it to other outlets it’s not anymore or less expensive, therefore “fine”. Generally I would use amazon and get a physical copy but if i feel im going to be playing the game for a long time and not gonna trade it then I don’t mind going the digital route.

As I said before, I don’t care for extras such as postcards or artbooks, they always end up in im my wardrobe after leafing through them once.

As for the digital pricing vs retail, thats a whole other conversation relating to sony and publishes wanting to keep their retail partners sweet. They can’t really undercut them with low digital prices without hurting those business relations that make up a high percent of game sales, and thats only part of the problem.

    Eldave0-UK 16 July, 2014 @ 7:22 pm

70quid for the collectors edition from Tesco Direct if you are a new customer. Seems a no brainer by comparison 🙂

Each and every Destiny special edition is grossly overpriced if you ask me.
I like the game and the extras look great but I’m not even remotely interested at these inflated prices.

chad1990 16 July, 2014 @ 3:05 pm   7

Is Watch Dogs really classed as deal of the week? £40 is still quite high, you can get it quite cheaper for the physical disc…

    AlemanGC 16 July, 2014 @ 3:23 pm

Agree, I was actually looking forward to Watch Dogs in a deal of the week but this price is not really exciting, can wait 🙂

No PS4 deal of the week? :/

    zalwelgoedgaan 16 July, 2014 @ 3:18 pm

Why? Don’t you want to support PS4 developers by buying their games at full price, which are often more expensive than retail?

wardenxx 16 July, 2014 @ 3:06 pm   9

Good news on the Destiny: Digital Guardian Edition, shame it’s still £4.99 more expensive that, but hey, you get to play it at 00:01…

madmanwithabox12 16 July, 2014 @ 3:07 pm   11

Weak update, as expected. Lots of padding this week.

torchedEARTH 16 July, 2014 @ 3:07 pm   12

This is Crimsonland pricing in US
Crimsonland (Regular Price: $13.99, Sale Price: $8.99, Plus Price: $7.19)

This is EU
Price: £7.99/€9.99/AU$14.95

Where is our Plus Price discount?

Unbelieveable as usual – you just lost a sale.

    torchedEARTH 16 July, 2014 @ 3:12 pm

I know there are different taxes but, £7.99 is almost the same as $13.99 at the current exchange rate. So we don’t get the sale price and we don’t get the plus price.

    NOSAJ19 16 July, 2014 @ 3:26 pm

I agree with what you are saying regarding the drastic price difference with an immediate sale price and PS Plus price on the US store in comparison to the standard price here, but when I can tell you is that Crimsonland is worth £9.99 let alone £7.99 as there is so much unlockable content in there and you will love the game. If you don’t buy the game, then it is the developer 10Tons that are losing the sale more than Sony and as 10Tons is an indie; every sale helps them to release more great games.

    torchedEARTH 16 July, 2014 @ 3:37 pm

Now I have had a chance to cool off and have a cup of tea I appreciate what you are saying. I was going to get it if it was £5, so another £2.99 isn’t a big ask.

I did play it to death on the PC and it will be even better on the PS4.

    NOSAJ19 16 July, 2014 @ 4:22 pm

Great to be able to help out! It has some really great PS4 improvements, such as the re-mastered graphics and touch pad implementation as an optional control scheme for aiming and shooting with local multiplayer too and plenty of unlockable content!

Everyone is saying that the Destiny BETA is the highlight of this week’s update, but I would actually say that Crimsonland on PS4 is the highlight, while Mahjong Gold and Day D: Tower Rush on Vita are exceptional releases too and both at great prices.

Rochala 16 July, 2014 @ 3:08 pm   13

Kinda boring week, at least next weeks will be better.
I wish Abyss Odyssey was for ps4 or Vita.

AlterAnthony 16 July, 2014 @ 3:08 pm   14

I think that the Zen Pinball 2 DLC/tables should be listed under PS4 since they have been available for the PS3 for a long, long time now.

    monoliet 16 July, 2014 @ 3:10 pm

jep like i say in post nr 10

If you did read their blogpost recently they announced the ps4 dlc next week 🙂

    monoliet 16 July, 2014 @ 5:07 pm

I want to pre-order the last of us and call of duty advanced warfare but I couldn’t find it in playstation store QATAR

    Jawad Ashraf 16 July, 2014 @ 3:40 pm

Unfortunately we are unable to offer pre-orders in Qatar at the moment, sorry 🙁

Lance_87 16 July, 2014 @ 3:09 pm   16

Hey Jawad, can you confirm that next week, after the release of Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty, we’ll have two weeks to buy it and get two DLC for free? (PS+ members only)

Also, any ETA for the release of the “Launch Commemoration Pack” for Ace Combat Infinity? It’s been 2 weeks and it’s missing in action.

    Jawad Ashraf 16 July, 2014 @ 3:41 pm

Yep, if PS Plus members buy the game within a fixed period they will receive 2 DLC free (one DLC releases post launch, though).

There is no ETA on that pack yet, sorry.

alphastreamz 16 July, 2014 @ 3:09 pm   17

We want early access games!!!!!!!! /sarcasm

Cool update. Just wish there were more PS4 Demos i.e like for Knack/KZ:SF/COD/BF etc etc? Was hoping this Gen we would get a Demo for all games to(or we could stream them by now) Oh well.

Destiny Guardian Edition 100 euro. Yeah, about that… pass.

At first I was about to complain how there are no PS4 deals of the week, but then I’ve noticed the prices. You can buy physical copies brand new cheaper than those “deal” prices.

UK_Rocklance 16 July, 2014 @ 3:10 pm   20

Where’s the discount on PS4 Watch Dogs?

Not that I would call £39.99/£49.99 a “sale” of the week anyway. That’s like the day 1 price at other shops for a physical copy (that you can sell after playing).

night_sign 16 July, 2014 @ 3:11 pm   21

Hey Jawad. Any update on the Freedom Wars situation for Europe?

SMT: Digital Devil Saga still not avaliable at the russian Store. Any chance to see them this week?

I3loodthirsty 16 July, 2014 @ 3:14 pm   24

eerr ma geeerd we finally get the digital guardian edition for pre order 😀

jehuty_2174 16 July, 2014 @ 3:15 pm   25

still hoping for a wipeout hd fury and 2048 sale, and since its sony ip, please more than 50%. pretty please make it happen ^^

zalwelgoedgaan 16 July, 2014 @ 3:16 pm   26

I’d love to buy the Muramasa DLC, but I want to make sure it’s not bugged out like the latest one where they had to make a correction patch. Aksys can be pretty disingenuous with their communication.

Hrimgrimnir 16 July, 2014 @ 3:17 pm   27

No summer sale this year?

    AlemanGC 16 July, 2014 @ 3:27 pm

They could have easily named the “champions” sale summer sale 🙂 Or even added the jap sale games to it.. ^^Its just a name^^

    AlemanGC 16 July, 2014 @ 3:29 pm

Any reason the Fifa Brazil 2014 sale is not mentioned anywhere?! Its down from 70 to 20..

    Jawad Ashraf 16 July, 2014 @ 3:42 pm

    Soon (not next week!)

    AlemanGC 16 July, 2014 @ 4:11 pm

Soon (not next week) so its in a few days already?! 😀

    AlemanGC 16 July, 2014 @ 4:45 pm

Nice trick jawad 🙂 I can see the summer festival sale incoming in minutes 🙂 🙂 🙂

Well Destiny Guardian edition price is another insult for UK. Well done at least for not blatantly putting it up for the same value as it is in the US ($89.99) $5 difference… Woo… *Slow clap*

Worth £50ish on US PSN Store I believe. I just find it hard to believe its nearly double the price of what the US is expected to pay, I know we have VAT, but that much!? I’m still waiting to hear “Its a joke!”, cause I cant even take this seriously.
Well, looking forward to Destiny Beta tomorrow at least…

Other than that, any word on Abes Odyssey New’n’Tasty?

solarwind12 16 July, 2014 @ 3:18 pm   29

do you know when or if we are getting access to Defiance, i read on their site the game was going free to play on july 15th, guess it may just pop up in store, with it being so old n stuff, but if you have any news to share?, thnx.

    solarwind12 16 July, 2014 @ 3:20 pm

The xbox/psn versions that is, think the pc one is already free.

Faustofausto 16 July, 2014 @ 3:19 pm   30

So every sale ends at the week, and we only got some overpriced cod “discount”? Thank you

I wonder what SCEE CEOs buy with all the money they extort from European players. 2 months ago they bought pure gold Ferrarris for themselves, their family, friends, maids and butlers, and their maids and butlers. This month it will probably be houses made of pure gold, judging by the prices.

    AlemanGC 16 July, 2014 @ 3:25 pm

I would think there is either some weekend sale, or a new sale next week.. But sometimes we can have 1-2 weeks without sales, yeah.

UK_Rocklance 16 July, 2014 @ 3:21 pm   31

Can you confirm that there will be a trial available for Abyss Odyssey, as you mentioned above? Cos over at the US store, they also listed the availability of a trial/demo, but there wasn’t one. It’s supposed to be a trial + unlock but there’s no individual trial or unlock package at all. No PS+ 60-min trial either. Searching on the Europe store, I don’t see any trial, only the full-price purchase (I assume it’s a bundle of trial+unlock).

NOSAJ19 16 July, 2014 @ 3:21 pm   32

Why is there Table Top Racing DLC listed at the top of the price drops section when the game has not been released yet?

“Table Top Racing
■125,000 Coins (£0.99/€1.19/AU$1.85)
■250,000 Coins (£1.49/€1.75/AU$2.65)
■500,000 Coins (£2.49/€2.99/AU$4.55)
■1,000,000 Coins (£2.89/€3.49/AU$5.25)”

    waveset 16 July, 2014 @ 4:01 pm

And now it’s been removed 🙁
Really looking forward to this, played it on iOS and it has a real Micro Machines feel to it.

    Jawad Ashraf 16 July, 2014 @ 4:14 pm

It will be out some time next month. Sorry to build that excitement.

LoneJustice87 16 July, 2014 @ 3:22 pm   33

Hey Jawad. A couple of weeks ago there was a Destiny blog post and it was mentioned that all ps+ members will get access to the beta. Is that still the case and if so when will we be able to download it?

ThugETH 16 July, 2014 @ 3:23 pm   34

Crimsonland review:

@Fred @ Jawad the ALPHA MAP PACK for DUSTFORCE on the VITA can’t be downloaded on the VITA store or WEBSTORE since it came out 2 MONTHS AGO as there is no download button to get the content despite the content being FREE!!!!
This is most likely because when bought day 1 with a plus discount it doesn’t recognize I OWN THE GAME!!!

    zalwelgoedgaan 16 July, 2014 @ 3:26 pm

I gave up on Dustforce, removed it from my Vita memory card to make room for games that aren’t poorly optimized pieces of filth.

    ThugETH 16 July, 2014 @ 7:20 pm

It got an update patch to fix performance though I refuse to play it until the ALPHA MAP PACK IS AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE!!!
BETA and GAMMA map packs work though!

well that’s 59p spent…guess that’s an improvement over the last few weeks. I’m actually buying something.

Invizimals can be bought for around £15 from Game…new.

I wouldn’t mind a price drop on No Heroes Allowed, £8 is a bit much but would buy it on sale for a fiver. I would also like to point out the £24.99 on the season pass for One Piece Unlimited World Red is excessive but if the quest are only 59p each and its the costumes that are pricey then keep the costumes.

blendercat27 16 July, 2014 @ 3:24 pm   36

Abyss Odyssey looks wonderful. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of this game before. Will be buying this one for sure. I hope that it may get ported to Vita in future too.

Hanzoadam 16 July, 2014 @ 3:25 pm   37

Another Disappointing week besides Destiny Beta which I’m waiting for Bunge to send me my code for tomorrow

    AlemanGC 16 July, 2014 @ 3:30 pm

How is it a dissapointing week when you are playing the biggest new Game Franchise of all time early?

    Rochala 16 July, 2014 @ 4:04 pm

It is a disappointing week when the highlight is a close beta game, no matter how good it is for it’s genre.

    Hanzoadam 16 July, 2014 @ 4:06 pm

And as I said “Another Disappointing week besides Destiny Beta”

    monoliet 16 July, 2014 @ 5:12 pm

    stop conplaning
preorder the game so you are abel to play beta then cansel ore buy if you like .

stupid way from activision /bungie + sony .
you want to sel lots = beta to al ps+ members = lots ps+ mony to sony
lots peopel like beta tem gone buy digital retail te game if price corect .

    AlemanGC 16 July, 2014 @ 3:30 pm

So now we link to shady chinese slacker sites that are secretly owned by rising sun?

So now we have Americans posting on the blog that come across as racist?

    ThugETH 16 July, 2014 @ 5:53 pm

@AlemanGC wth are you on about that’s my site!

    AlemanGC 17 July, 2014 @ 7:31 am

Looks like you didnt get the joke but “your” site still deals with hacking vita/ps3

    ThugETH 17 July, 2014 @ 4:14 pm

Actually it doesn’t, we allow freedom of speech, if members want to talk about hacking then that is up to them. There is no illegal content on the site we’ve worked hard for a long time to ensure this and now actually receive pre retail review codes from many devs and publishers!

JoshHood 16 July, 2014 @ 3:31 pm   39

Hey guys, any chance we could see SOCOM: Tactical Strike (PSP) on the Store at some point? It’s a great game and available digitally in the US, but not here (it just has a blank ‘disc only’ page, marked as PS3 for some reason) – I’d love to be able to play it through on my Vita!

INS1GHTFUL 16 July, 2014 @ 3:31 pm   40

has anyone tried the murumasa DLCs and can say if theyre any good? Im tempted but i havent seen many reviews for them.

sonicguy12 16 July, 2014 @ 3:36 pm   41

When will the blacklight starter pack be available. Its already out in the american playstation store

KaneTheGoth 16 July, 2014 @ 3:39 pm   42

Is The Last of Us Remaster the censored EU version? I’ve avoided the PS3 version due to this. If not, why is the UK still getting shafted with censored versions due to the overly sensitive boards in other regions/territories?

    zalwelgoedgaan 16 July, 2014 @ 3:43 pm

Yep, multiplayer is censored, check the LoU article from today.

It’s stupid, Mortal Kombat is way, waaay more violent and that was released in the PAL region (besides Germany and Australia) without issues. It’s basically a case of Sony being Sony.

    monoliet 16 July, 2014 @ 3:43 pm

euro = not only uk ( maby you tink but googel if you tink 😉 )
buth sony + others to lazy whith making multy versions in euro .
tanks to Germany + other crazy contry rules.

    KaneTheGoth 16 July, 2014 @ 3:54 pm

@monoliet I was fairly specific in my comment: I (in UK) am getting a censored (EU) version, due to other regions (I do not know which regions). I can’t speak for other territories of the EU so mentioned the UK specifically as I know the previous version was censored here.

P.S. I don’t need googel to help me tink.

    KaneTheGoth 16 July, 2014 @ 3:54 pm

Thanks, zalwelgoedgaan. Disappointing news again 🙁

    monoliet 16 July, 2014 @ 7:12 pm

    kanethegoth =
i mean not only in the uk you have the problem
lots of other contry in Europe have same problem .
only +- 2 majore stupid gouvernements are making al other contry angry abouth crazy racist laws them have against games . peopel of the 2+- can not be to balamed

    monoliet 16 July, 2014 @ 7:13 pm

    balamed = blamed

monoliet 16 July, 2014 @ 3:40 pm   43

    solarwind12 16 July, 2014 @ 3:57 pm

Us have to pay first for their pre-orders so thats why they will get upgrade, is easy enough to just cancel then order it again.

DavidHolliss 16 July, 2014 @ 3:40 pm   44

What happened to the Crimsonland demo?

Launch pricing on that game here in UK is awful compared to the US. Won’t be shafted so will wait for it to hit the sale price as we don’t even appear to be getting a PS+ discount either.

    Rochala 16 July, 2014 @ 4:19 pm

Demo is up now, just click on the crimsonland link

    DavidHolliss 16 July, 2014 @ 4:28 pm

Thanks Rochala I just saw that via the online store, silly me thinking it would be mentioned in the initial post here. Doesn’t excuse the pricing mind you.

TheKillerSnowman 16 July, 2014 @ 3:41 pm   45

Where are all the good games to PS4? There are only (CENSORED) games. Week after week 🙁

Chocobo115 16 July, 2014 @ 3:46 pm   46

Hey Jawad,

I’m just wondering when will we get Xenogears? I’ve been wanting that game since the US Import section was announced years ago. I’ve always believed that xenogears is the kind of game the Import section was created for together with thoose other awesome games such as Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger & Parasite Eve wich were never originaly released on the PSONe or am I not correct?
I know I asked you years ago, but could you not try to approach Square Enix again about it? I think they appointed a new boss between then and now. And maybe hopefully he could actually see how much they could profit from releasing thoose games over here since they will be all new games to so many european players. I mean not all could do it like me and import them from the US way back then to play the games.
Xenogears is my absolute favorite game ever all times, all categories. And I would love to replay it on my Vita (hence why it needs to be on the EU store). And I would love to see the european RPG fans that have missed this absolute crown jewel of JRPGs to discover the game and marvel at it wonders as I did thoose years ago.

Jazumin 16 July, 2014 @ 3:49 pm   47

When I owned a PS3 I really did look forward to Wednesday store deals and new games. Now as a PS4 owner it’s week after week of bitter disappointment.

    AlemanGC 16 July, 2014 @ 4:15 pm

You bought a ps4 when there was no sales and no deals. So thats what you now get from Sony. I dont understand these posts every week. Why should there be discounts for ps4? You bought it anyways. Its a new system. Many are still buying it and will pay any price for games. Why should they lower prices?

    DavidHolliss 16 July, 2014 @ 4:30 pm

Many are still buying PS3 games at full price.
The odd 10% or 20% discount on a PS4 title wouldn’t go amiss nine months after release.
These deals should be an incentive to get more PS4 console buyers too.

Tuulenpoika 16 July, 2014 @ 3:50 pm   48

When can we expect to have more news about PlayStation TV in Europe (release date, contents of package)? Also, is there going to be a standalone PS Vita Slim available outside the UK, without the memory card and download voucher?

    den_rick 17 July, 2014 @ 7:58 am

PS vita slim (stand alone) is available here in France. So it should be available elsewhere. Otherwise some websites can deliver it in your country for a cheap price (Example: amazon uk).

solarwind12 16 July, 2014 @ 3:52 pm   49

@ monoliet
reason the US store is doing upgrade is they pay for pre-orders when they order them, bit strange imo but thats how they do it, so it’s got to be a upgrade option for them, cancel and re-pre ordering is easy enough on EU store.

    monoliet 16 July, 2014 @ 5:21 pm

o i did not now them pay in advance ,
buth preorders you always can cansel in Belgium in lots of store .
if shop say you need to pay littel ore all in advance = by by .

buth why them not say directly to consumers of euro zone instead ? ( them tink we can not understend ? )

also cansel buton in store = faster ( i needed to cal to sony helpdesk to cansel bf hardline ,even them dith not nowh were corectly you need to cansel on ps4 . after 15 min we found )
