Chaotic social shooter #killallzombies coming soon to PS4!

Can you survive the Arena?

We are excited to announce a new third-person action shooter called #killallzombies, coming to PlayStation 4 first. In the distant future; #killallzombies is thrusting civilians into a sport of survival. A ravenous zombie population is unleashed in the name of sports entertainment with television spectators voting upon how many zombies they want to uncage, with the potential of a collective horde of over 1,000 zombies.

The arena comprises hundreds of hexagon-shaped tiles that are capable of totally changing the dynamics of the gameplay by altering the landscape. New obstacles spawn, such as various cars and weapons; hexagons temporarily cave in on themselves to create dangerous traps; hexagons temporarily raise from the ground to create a blockade that may keep some zombies out; alongside many more ever changing hexagonal gameplay dynamics.

Social interactivity is a hugely important feature for #killallzombies as we want to deliver the most engaging socially interactive and fun game in the third-person shooter genre. A central attribute to the social interactivity is involving stream viewers into core gameplay elements via chat and voting mechanics, which allows for people to not only spectate, but also participate during a player’s live broadcasting of #killallzombies via PS4 and Twitch website.

There are three ways that spectators can affect the game for the broadcaster:

  1. Every 80 seconds, we have a choice of two encounter options available to vote via interactions including: encounter spawns, various arena events, timed bonuses and perks.
  2. The perk select screen has its own voting mechanic in which if the player decides to wait and select the spectator’s most voted perk, the player will be offered additional XP and Health.
  3. The chat commands are available throughout the broadcast as we are executing chat commands in real time, allowing the spectators to vote on a variety of imperative decisions, such as increasing or decreasing your character’s speed or health, spawning more or less enemies, unlocking new weapons, deliberately changing the camera angle to a less effective perspective, or even reversing the entire control scheme!

To avoid spam, some commands have their own cool-down mechanic. Some of them can be triggered with different keyword commands with some lasting until the session ends. There will also be plenty of hidden commands that you will have to figure out for yourself along the way during gameplay and we will be posting special announcements on social media.

There is plenty of weaponry, including Beretta, Revolver, Sawed-off shotgun, M-16, M-60 and a futuristic X-Bow and Plasma Gun. And there are various bullet types including: normal bullets, armour-piercing rounds that are capable of shooting directly through zombies and freezing bullets. We plan to add even more weaponry and bullet types in the future too.

The control scheme consists of your typical twin-stick shooter with the left analogue stick moving the character and the right analogue stick shooting in the appropriate direction. The player will fight through various categories of zombies, such as slow, fast, jumping, gigantic and enraged bosses.

Killing significant quantities of zombies will earn XP, which will eventually enable the player to level up, which is a very important process as it provides the player with a choice of perks that will be incredibly helpful in surviving the hordes of zombies. The perks have a tremendous power to each of them that can shift the balance of power from the hordes of zombies surrounding you to the player. They range from invisibility to insta-death, which sensationally leaves absolutely every zombie in a crumpled heap dead on the ground, among various other perks.

Will you have the survival instincts to endure the Arena?

Wow! You mean a game where we get to shoot zombies? With a hashtag in the title!?!? It’s true you guys, indies really are where the innovation lies.

You might be onto something with the interactivity though, that’s a pretty good idea.

uncalled for

I disagree.

Why are you hating? If it’s not your thing just leave. I think it looks interesting. I like the simplicity and the way the hexagons are used. 4 player couch coop would be great tho.

I Really like the gameplay. Changing gameplay trough Twitch looks awesome. Is it going to work? Only time will tell.

uncalled-for

I think this looks like a lot of fun! Can you tell me if it features any kind of co-op outside of the spectator play? It seems like a game that would really benefit from more people playing it. Cheers!

Coming to playstation first, what other consoles will get it ?
Do you plan to add more weapons? Crimsonlands for ps4 has bad graphics, but I loved it for the gameplay and the variety of weapons/modes

Can’t the Vita version have lower poly models or something? It’d be nice to have cross play and cross save between PS4 and Vita

If the game has no co-op and no Multiplayer but plans to “maybe” add it later, then it’s not finished. Finish the game and then release it, we are not free beta testers.

Originally, thats a streaming interactions game. Idea to add multiplayer came not long time ago, and actually its a another game but in the same setting, so we have to aproach there carefully.

Is it possible to let owners of the game vote on chat commands that will be implemented? Would be perfect for fanservice.

Alexey Menshikov 08 August, 2014 @ 17:26

We have 2 kinds of vote: just similar to Dead Nation, each few mins global vote for next encounter: there are plenty of them: more zombies, affect player stats, bonus etc. Some of them are same as commands by behaviour. So if you know scary some streamers for sure.
Second, on perk select screen if player agree to wait for a while, you can vote to next perk and he get extra XP. Commands can be called any moment but there is a spam protection and commands “cooldown” timer. Ie you can call Nuke few times in a row for example.

Oops, I forgot to add “in the future”. As in, commands that have yet to be developed and put in the game. Fans might have crazy ideas post launch, they could be based on current memes and such. Thanks for the answer though =P

And psvita?

I hope you can add more movement options like roll, dodge and jump and the special attacks of bosses force players to use these.

We had it in the begining. Even sword attack but removed because the crowd is so big and they are not help to fight against.

Hate to be the one who says it (but someone was bound to), I hope this sets itself apart from Dead Nation…
